We get Dares story. He's trying to pin down the dirty dealings of the bad guy. Jenna gets caught in the middle. The book is fast paced and keeps you engaged. Makes you wonder if there are hidden bunkers all over the place. Still so many unanswered questions.

I did not finish this book. This has several issues for me as a reader. This book seemed to skip over the beginning. I don’t know where Jenna came from and how she ended up as Dare’s witness. I did only read the previous two books in the series but there is no mention of Jenna in those. Admittedly I can usually jump into the middle of a series and adjust, but add in the fact that I can’t stand Dares treatment of Jenna means I won’t like this book if I continue. I do not like an hero treating the heroine badly especially if he is doing it to keep the her at arms length. This one just isn’t for me.

Close to the Edge by Dawn Ryder is the fifth book in the Unbroken Heroes series. The one thing I should mention is that these books should be read in order before diving straight into Close to the Edge. From the start lots of information from the previous books are blasted from the very first chapters, could be confusing for some.

Special Ops Dare Servant is your typical alpha male who doesn't believe in a happily ever after.... But when Jenna Henson waltzes into his life, it all changes. His job is to protect her, and soon the lines blur between hate to love.

I really enjoyed this book, a fast action packed romance thriller.

DNF 38% I hate when I don't connect with a book and even more when I don't finish one. First off I was offered the book through NetGalley because I had read a book by Dawn Ryder before, now if I had bothered to check back what I had read I would have never picked this read because the series really needs to be read in order, otherwise you get completely lost with all that is going on. Now the book was an uncorrected copy, which generally is not a problem, but in this case the first chapter was at the back of the book, which I only found out after I saw some reviews and wondered if others had trouble getting into the book, by this point I had reached 19% of the book. So I figured I could at least read it in order to see if I liked it any better, but there were just too many holes in the storyline, jumping around with timelines, unbelievably interactions between the main characters etc that I decided to give up on the book. I am sure if you have read them in order you feel differently about it, but for me to connect with a storyline I need to be able to at least believe that what is going on could happen.

Sometimes a book needs a prologue and it would have been fine.

Close to the Edge needs more than a prologue. Every event, every character introduction, every motive (I bet you’re getting the picture) assumes the reader already knows and understands what came before. It feels like the editor took the novel, chopped it in half, and published the last half as is.

The book has great characters and great scenes, but I felt lost throughout the entire book.

Full review will post at publish date on www.readingobsession.com.

DNF by the end of the first chapter, which I never do! I was so confused by the end of the first chapter that I looked back to find out the ARC starts with Chapter Two. So either I read the most confusing first chapter ever or there is a missing Chapter One. Either way, I was left with far too many questions and not enough answers to understand what was going on: Why did Dare put a chip in Jenna's shoulder? Why is Jenna under surveillance by Dare's team? Who's Kincaid? How did Dare not notice the guy watching him kiss Jenna? This was either a case of bad formatting or jumping into a series mid-way.

ARC received for review.
Once I figured out the correct chapter order - mix-up in ARC, the story went smoothly. Enjoy another ride in the world of Shadow Ops. The bad guys are a bit more watered down in this story. Liked Jenna, the female protagonist with a brain. Wish the characters were a bit more fleshed out.

This one was full of twists and turns and lots of confusion if you had not read the rest of the series, or at least I'm thinking that may be the problem with me since I am getting in on this one on book 5. This was a fast paced story with Dare, who is a Special-Op mercenary, and Jenna, a combustion specialist. For some reason she has been implanted with a chip and so when she is kidnapped she is able to be tracked and Dare is able to find her and protect her when she is in danger. Twists and turns and chemistry between Dare and Jenna keep this going but I was confused a lot of the time. It was worth the read though.

**Received this ARC for review from the publisher via NetGalley**

The first chapter was missing so I had no idea what was going on. I normally love her books but can't really rate this one ---

You can't save everyone. Will Shadow Ops be able to bring down Carl Davis for good or will he become the next president and shut them down? Kagan & his team need to bring down Kirkland Grog but he has been ahead of them all this time. But they have someone that he wants but he will need to go through Dare Servant to get to Jenna. She knows nothing all she wants to do is go back to her life like nothing has happened. But it is too late for that now. She is under their protection but all she wants is to help them but things go wrong and she almost loses her life. Will Dare be able to walk away after this case? Or has Jenna stolen his heart? Shadow Ops is his family and that is all he has ever wanted but now he wants Jenna as well but can they even live a normal life together? Kirkland thinks that he is about to win this fight, he might have money but that means nothing to the team. Carl Davis won't protect him anymore. Will they be able to bring down Kirkland and stop his sex trade and move closer to taking down Carl Davis? Great to see the team all together. Another great read in the series. Who does love strong sexy men and one hot woman that will do anything to protect the ones that they love. I received a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.

I'm afraid I couldn't finish this one. It DEFINITELY isn't a stand alone. I feel like maybe there was a book before this one that I missed, because right from chapter one, as a reader, you're dropped into a story and it seems that you're expected to understand what's going on and who these characters are. Well, I don't. So I'm just not going to keep reading. Life's too short.

This was an on the edge of your seat romantic suspense book. The author had me hooked beginning to end.

Jenna and Dare were great characters. Jenna was the likeable but too brave for her own good heroine. Dare was the hardened but so very flawed hero of my dreams. He was so torn about his feelings for Jenna. Getting involved meant bringing more danger to the woman he cared about, and he didn't feel good enough for her anyway. So he was constantly pushing her away. Jenna for her part never gave up though.

Close To The Edge is another sexy, suspenseful, well crafted story in this series. The characters were fascinating. It had loads of gritty action, steamy sex, and multiple plot twists. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Shadow Ops Agent Dare Servant is focused and determined to do what he can to make the world a little safer. He can’t believe that some of his fellow badass agents have taken desk jobs for love. It will never happen to him. Never say never because despite his best efforts he finds himself falling for Jenna the feisty caterer in his protective custody. This story is filled with action and attraction. A hot, steamy runaway train that kept me up reading past my bedtime.
Though this is part of a series it can be read standalone.

Decent read. First chapter was missing so took a little longer to follow the story and felt I felt crucial things

Really good book! Some parts were a little slow but otherwise good. The plot was good and the characters were good. This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last.

Contrary to one other book in this series that I have read and was totally confused with all the character references from previous stories, this one is truly a stand alone.
The members of Shadow Ops are complex characters with the sole goal of keeping the country safe, and ridding it of corruption. By doing so, the members really have no personal life.
The main character in this story Shadow Ops operative Dare Servant, a man whose past has molded his present. The group is charged with investigating and bugging the home of a man that is involved in human trafficking. Jenna, a rocket scientist who as a favor to a dear friend is catering a party at the same house, gets caught in the crossfire of the investigation and is put in danger when the bad guys fear she can identify them.
It’s a story filled with intrigue, bad guys, black ops operatives, a strong alpha character and a female that is spunky and challenges him in every way possible.
And of course a hot romance. Lots of gray areas as well in righting the wrong.
My only objection is that the scenes changed quickly and I had to take a moment to adjust to the change. Could be that I had an ARC copy and the final editing had not been completely.
All that said, I am ready to read the next book in this series.
I was gifted this copy by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Dawn Ryder is very good at weaving tales of conspiracy where the stakes are high, the players are dangerous, and Shadow Ops teams are the only ones capable of saving the day. When a dangerous man is about to become the POTUS, one that is being financed by a human trafficking crime boss, Agent Dare Servant will do anything to end their game. Too bad rocket scientist by day and gourmet chef by love and need, Jenna Henson nearly ruined his mission. Once she becomes a "package", Servant will do what he has to in order to keep her safe. Jenna feels the chemistry between Dare and her. She knows he feels it too. If being his, for the time being, is all she can have, then so be it. But when danger runs high, and emotions run higher, even Dare will have to admit that maybe letting go of Jenna is something he is just not ready for. There are quite a few twists and turns in this book, but it's the end that will get to you. Can't wait for the next Unbroken Heroes book to see what will happen next...

This one took awhile to get into......its got a complicated plot that will hold your interest if you give it a chance. It's fast paced action packed and has enough romance to keep you turning the pages.

Close to the Edge (Unbroken Heroes #5) by Dawn Ryder ...First I would like to say that the first chapter was at the end of the book... and also I did not read the first four books in the series so I was a little lost. The was Jenna and Dare's story.... I was given this book to read by St. Martins Press and #NetGalley for an honest review...It was a okay read ...There was a lot of action and so many twists and turns with many plot directions...

I have a lot of mixed feelings on this book. First of all, the formatting was not good and very distracting. The story started on chapter 2 because chapter 1 was somehow at the end of the book. There was not a clear transition between the different POVs and there were way too many POVs in my opinion. I enjoyed the idea of the story, but the end was a bit lackluster and not clear. There were some characters that I wouldn’t mind seeing again but I couldn’t say that I’d want to read it if it were similar to this. I also overall felt like some things in the store were a bit outdated. The potential was there but it just missed the mark for me.
