Dark Alpha’s Night in the fifth book in Donna Grant’s Reaper Series. Daire is a Reaper, an elite assassin and part of a brotherhood that works for Death. Ettie is the oldest of the O’Bryne sisters, and she, along with her sisters, Jamie and Carrie are Fae Halfings and descendants of Bran, the series villian. The attraction between Daire and Ettie is instant and explosive. They are drawn to each other but the suddenness of their relationship and the challenges around them make trust an issue, especially when Bran is around. Bran, on the other hand is looking for something that he can use to kill Death and he needs Ettie and her ancestral land to do it. Will Ettie make the right choice? Will Daire be able to protect Ettie? Will they survive the coming back battle? Rwad it and find out!
Another great book for an already fantastic series. Donna Grant has done it again. I have read and loved every book from all of Grant’s book series, and Dark Alpha’s Night is right there at the top. I especially love that we continue to see several of the much love characters from her previous books.
The storylines in this series of books are focused primary on the Reaper’s and their mission to help Death maintain the balance between the Dark and Light Fae. The Reapers are all strong, loyal and self-reliant characters. I love that the heroines in this series are an equal match, with equally strong personalities and moral sense. I love that both the hero and heroine have to rely on each other to overcome the villain’s sinister plot. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Will it be Eoghan’ story? Or Cael’s?
I received an ebook copy of this book from The Martin’s Press for an honest review.
All the books in Donna Grant’s Reaper series contain a happily ever after and can be read as a standalone, however, reading it in order will give you a better appreciation for the characters and the series itself.
This is a must buy book for avid readers!! I honestly cannot wait to read the rest of this series! I was completely and utterly captivated by this book and in awe of the authors ability to weave a spell so strong that I could not put it down. The story line was brilliantly written giving the readers more information than ever before for such a small book. It is impossible not to fall in love with almost every character in this tale. I cannot wait to see what happens next! I received this ARC via NetGalley and I am voluntarily writing the review for this book. All opinions are honest and only my own. Regards: Anna
I enjoyed it while I was reading it, however there were some flaws. The overall series plot seems to have stalled out, as no real progress was made in this book. The romance between Daire and Ettie wasn't terribly believable, although it was fun to read.
Dont read as a stand alone
Might have been great- too confusing to tell.
This is part of a series, which should be read in order. The world is really great, but not having the previous ones I feel a bit lost in it with the characters and villain.
It was a quick read, and fast paced. The main characters were a lot of fun to follow along with. I am hoping Ettie's sisters eventually get their own stories. I will go back and read the ones preceding to understand the world a bit better, because I really liked what I saw of the world.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book in this series that I read. It made me want to go back to the first book and read the whole series. I just love Donna's books.
I love this series by Donna Grant. It's a awesome PNR. It's full of romance but with a exciting story line. Great!
Dark Alpha's Night is an exciting addition to the Reaper series. Bran is on his quest to kill Death and exact his revenge. He may be all charm to get what he wants but he's a ruthless killer. He's met his match when he tries to make Ettie give up her family's land to save her sisters. She will fight to protect those she loves. I enjoyed seeing her realize her powers. When she meets the Reaper Daire, her world changes. Their chemistry is powerful and left them both shocked. I loved their romantic relationship, but I wondered if they had a chance. This story is an exciting paranormal story. The characters are well written and larger than life. The setting adds to the suspenseful atmosphere. Donna Grant kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
I haven't read all the book in the Reapers series yet so I felt a little lost at time with all of the characters but I did like Daire and Ettie and thought they were good together. And, although I'm still learning who everyone is, I enjoyed how all the characters interacted with each other.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley, however; my thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Reapers are on a race to find the Half-Fae before their enemy finds them in this thrilling action packed Reaper story.
Donna Grant keeps her Dark World full of exciting and surprising twists, lots of adrenaline pumping action, thrilling suspense and fascinating characters and the Reapers are an exhilarating part of that world that brings more of the Dark World to life ensuring that readers can never get enough. Every time I read another book in this electrifying world I become a part of it and have a grand adventure that provides lots of fantasy material for sexy hunks and dreamy romance.
Dark Alpha’s Night is a brilliant story in the Reaper series, it is full of surprises and keeps readers on the edge of their seat in anticipation while providing readers with an excellent romance that has fiery sparks flying in every direction along with some emotional turbulence that adds depth to the story. I was completely caught up in the fast paced and suspenseful plot from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down until I had read every last detail. I sure can’t wait to visit the Dark World again when Torched releases in May.
Ettie and Daire were amazing together. She was strong and opinionated and he was honest and straightforward. Bran plays a lot of mind tricks and Ettie held her own (way more than I would have tbh) and even though some of the lies and manipulation did play right into Bran’s hands, she didn’t stay down for long and Daire always had her back – sometimes literally – Lol! This was a quick read and I was sad to see it end. I was just settling in for the long haul when things started to really pick up. It ends on a sort of cliffhanger, only because this is a continuing series.
Death and Cael stole some of Daire and Ettie’s thunder. Not because they outshined the MCs, but because the jump to their POV’s – that are shrouded in mystery, angst, and riddle – felt forced and out of place. Daire and Ettie were amazing but it didn’t help that the limited time we had with them kept getting interrupted by this other side story. A story that will continue later on, probably in a future installment, but didn’t actually go anywhere in this book.
There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I'm coming for you...
To some Fae, I am their worst nightmare. For I do Death’s bidding. But for all our strength and skill, a powerful enemy has risen up. Finding Ettie could change everything. The Half-Fae is our one chance. She’s sharp and strong and fierce. She steals my breath every time I'm near her. And looking into her eyes is like a bolt of lightning right through me. She’s what I’ve been waiting for my long, dark existence. But for us to be together, we must first stay alive…

This is the second book in the series that I have read and it was just as exciting as the first. I have read this series out of order and have not felt lost at all. The Author does a good job making sure that you know what happened before. I think it is better to read this from the beginning, but it is not necessary. This story continues right where the last book left off. In this story we have Ettie and her sisters who have heard tales of Fae but have never met one, until Bran sets his sights on them. Daire and the rest of the Reapers must try to help protect them. Of course sparks fly between Daire and Ettie. There is lots of action, suspense and heart too in this story. I don't want to give away a lot because this is a shorter story and I feel I will be giving too much up. I will say, like her other characters the Author creates them to be strong, interesting and engaging. The story line, like the characters keeps you hooked until the end. and for those who like spice in their romance you will definitely not be disappointed.
4Stars
*I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book provided by the publisher.*
I loved this book! I read everything Grant writes and I'm never disappointed!
This is the fifth book in the Reaper series and, in my opinion, the best one yet. The story grabbed me from the first page and I ended up reading the whole book in one night.
Daire and the other Reapers continue their ongoing search for Bran. They were set on this path by Death, who is also dealing with a very troubling loss of her power and strength to none other than Bran. How is Bran able to siphon strength and power from someone like Death? Well, read this book and you will find out. This search has led the Reapers to some very interesting information about Bran. I won't spoil it for you though.
Along the way we meet Ettie and her two sisters. They are half Fae and have been told by their father, before his death, to be prepared. Prepared for what? These kinds of warnings usually drive me crazy in books because they usually don't get answered for a long time. Not so with this book.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It had some romance and sexy time but the story itself was good enough that it wasn't required. I will definitely be reading the next installment.
I received an advanced reader copy of this ebook From NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, this is my own personal opinion of the book.
This book was a quick, light read with enough plot and smut to keep things interesting. Admittedly, I have been horrible about reading books by this author in order (I jump around, I pop in and out of the Dark world series, etc.) but I recognize some names and generally understand the overall story so I don't think it really impacted my enjoyment of this book.
Daire is a reaper who has watched his fellow reapers get paired up with mates. Sure, he thinks it won't happen to him and wants to help progress the larger battle with the big bad, but to do that he needs a direction. Following a lead about possible half-breeds, he goes out to find Ettie, the eldest sibling of a possible half-breed family. What he finds, however, is someone he can't deny attraction to. Couple that with the fact that she is indeed a gifted half-breed, and it's pretty clear that he's found his match. On top of that, she can help in their battle!
Ettie is tough, independent, but also knows what she wants. What she wants, immediately after meeting Daire is to spend as much time in his arms. These two are quick to the smut and end up stronger as a result of their blossoming relationship. While I don't know where this bigger storyline will end up, these two are a key piece in this growing battle.
The Reapers are Death's hit squad created to keep the Fae in check. They answer only to Death and have forsaken all including love in order to become a reaper. Bran, was once a reaper who broke the rules and paid for his disobedience with exile.
Bran has escaped and is now seeking vengeance against the reapers. The reapers themselves have changed, many of them have fallen in love and to the teeth gnashing dismay of Bran and his cohorts, Death has admitted the women into the folds even as she is losing her powers and weakening day by day. The world is a dire place indeed and the reapers look like they may be on the losing end of the tide.
Three sisters in Ireland come to the attention of the reapers as possible targets for Bran and potential allies for the reapers in their fight. Daire arrives to find Bran already ahead of him and wooing one of the sisters. The sisters are not only aware of the existence of the Fae but they have drilled every single day of their life for a battle they will one day be compelled to fight.
This is a pivotal book in the series that finally reveals a lot of Bran's secrets to the readers. In an interesting twist Bran and Daire are in a fight that could win Bran the war should he win. The future of humankind is at stake along with Daire's heart. Will he persevere? Can he shut down Bran and finally get ahead of the plotting and machinations that have continued to defeat the reapers.
I believe this may actually be my favorite book in the series. Ettie is an excellent protagonist who will leave a lasting impression on readers. I can't wait to see where this story will go next especially given the cliff hanger with Death.
: DARK ALPHA’S NIGHT is the fifth instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult REAPER paranormal, fantasy romance series. The REAPERS is a spin off from Donna’s DARK KINGS series which is a spinoff from Donna’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. You do not have to have read any of the previous series to understand the premise but many of the events overlap with the events of the Dark Kings. This is Reaper Daire, and Fae Halfling Ettie OByrne’s story line. Daire has been on assignment following Rhi (a Light Fae warrior) in the Dark Kings series, but his return to the Reapers means the possibility of finding his future.
SOME BACKGROUND: The Reapers (believed to be a folk lore amongst the Fae) are a group of Dark and Light Fae, selected by Death (aka Erith), on their own deathbed, to do her bidding-Death is the judge and jury; the Reapers are the executioners. The Reapers are not harbingers of death, but are tasked with destroying the Light and Dark Fae who have crossed a line from which there is no return. All Reapers must follow two rules: never to fall in love; and never to reveal their existence to anyone. If you have read Donna’s DARK KINGS series you will recognize the familiarity between the two series as both follow a similar plot and premise including betrayal by one of their own. Bran is a former Reaper who fell in love but Death ended their relationship by destroying his heart and the woman he loved, sentencing Bran to Netherworld for millions of years. Upon his escape, Bran sets about to destroy the Reapers, and seeks revenge against the woman known as Death.
Told from several third person perspectives including Ettie and Daire DARK ALPHA’S NIGHT follows Daire and the Reapers as they go in search of Bran’s descendants-Fae and half-Fae whose magical powers may be used against the Reapers and the women they love. Enter Ettie O’Byrne, and her younger sisters Carrie and Jamie who, for all of their lives, had been preparing for a possible attack by the Fae. What ensues is the building romance between Ettie and Daire; and the discovery of magic and power shrouding the O’Bryne lands.
Death is dying; her powers have been slowly siphoned off such that Death is no longer able to help the men and women who do her bidding. As the Reapers continue their search for Bran, Bran continues to seek revenge against Death and her Reaping minions. Ettie O’Byrne is a warrior; preparing all of her life for the inevitable meeting with the Fae but Ettie never expected to be caught up in a war between good and evil, and it is Ettie who may hold the clue for what it is Bran is looking.
The relationship between Daire and Ettie is quick to develop although someone else has staked a claim on our story line heroine. Bran needs something that Ettie hides but Ettie is unaware of the item or its existence. Daire becomes guardian and protector of the woman with whom he is falling in love but Bran’s powers are growing exponentially, and the Reapers are seriously out-powered by the man they once called a friend. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including most of the Reapers and their significant others, Erith (aka Death), and Bran. Reaper Eoghan is still missing, caught up in the magic of the Light Fae Rhi-magic that sent the Reaper to places unknown.
The world building reveals the O’Byrne family history and their connection to the Fae, as well as Daire’s original demise and how he came to be part of Death’s Reapers.
DARK ALPHA’S NIGHT explains and discloses some of the history between Bran and the Reapers, as well as the truth about Death’s beginnings and her true identity. The premise is exciting and affecting; the characters are dynamic and charismatic; the romance is fated and seductive. DARK ALPHA’S NIGHT is a great addition to Donna Grant’s REAPERS series.

I will admit that this series is newer to me. I didn't start it in the beginning, I know, that was shocking for me, but what can I say, it happens. This is only the second book in a five book series that I've read. I need to make the time to go back and read the first three because I really enjoy them.
I've got to tell you that this is a fun and very fast paced. Which works out good since it's basically a novella. When a book is that little of pages it needs to grab you and keep you in the moment till the end. It also has to feel like a complete story. Nothing worse then it not. With Dark Alpha's Night you get all that. A enjoyable story, great characters, a chuckle or two.
All you want in a story. Or at least that's what I want.
What I enjoyed was the interaction between both Ettie and Daire. They worked. A lot happens in the story but I felt that while it was happening these two stood by each other. At times though I felt the story was slightly busy. It jumps from character to character and if you aren't on top of it you could get slightly lost. Other then that, it worked for me. I'm so glad I read it and will be reading more in this series.
This is the newest addition to the Reapers series and I loved this one so much! This is Daire's story and even though I at first envisioned a much different path for him, I couldn't have been more satisfied with how things worked out for him.
Ettie is the oldest of three sisters and she's more like a mother figure to them than anything. This responsibility has come at the cost of her own personal life. It was kind of nice to see the responsible caregiver character get a chance to shine for once and this definitely helped me to relate to her as a character on a much deeper level. There's a war brewing behind the scenes and Ettie is about to be pulled into a world she's always suspected existed, but has never been a part of.
Of all of this author's series, I'm starting to feel like this one is my overall favorite. There's just something about the Reapers that I just can't resist. I am dying to find out where this amazing series is headed next and there's some pretty big stuff right around the corner so I'll be impatiently waiting for the next book to release! I highly recommend this entire series to anyone to read.
Dark Alpha’s Night is intense, steamy and completely addicting. I’ll be very frank and say that I did not do my proper homework when requesting this title – I thought I had read earlier books in this series, the fact is I have not. So. I very strongly believe this is a series that needs to be read in order. There are events, previous couples and side issues that I wish I had firsthand knowledge of before reading this story. Did it prevent me from enjoying Ettie and Daire’s story? Not one little bit. I simply wish I had started from the beginning is all. I could follow the story in front of me quite well, it simply is my preference to read in order so that I don’t miss nuances and details that obviously cannot completely be retold in every story. In fact, I will be going back to the start of this series, so in some ways reading this one out of order only gave me a new series to pick up.
I enjoyed my time in this complicated world. Enough so that I need to know more. The characters are strong, at times funny, always powerful and likable (except the bad guys, of course). It’s possible to read this book on its own, I know I felt I was missing puzzle pieces, but that was my style of reading. Donna Grant is a voice to be reckoned with as she takes you completely into her worlds – and there are worlds, some that lightly connect. I believe some readers will enjoy this one and then walk away – others, like myself, will want to know more and find themselves picking up a new series to devour. Either way, you’re going to find a good solid story, characters to either love or loathe and pieces of a puzzling mystery that is far from solved.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
