If you have been reading my blog for a while you will already know that I am a huge fan of Donna Grant so you will not be surprised that I have read this book.
I received a eARC a few months ago and I couldn't wait to read it so I read it right away.
Dark Alpha Night is book number 5 in the Reaper series. Each books are short so they can be read in one sitting and they all need to be read in order.
I just couldn't put this book down and read it in ones sitting.
I love the story so much and I sure hope there will be more books in this series because I am hooked.
I do very much recommend this series and this book. I promise you, you will be hooked.
I am giving this 5 out of 5.
So happy Daire has found his mate. I have more questions than answers is this book. The big question is why don't the Reapers ask the Dragon Kings for help? I know Donna has a plan for both series so my question is a moot point but it's still a question I have. Daire finally stops following Rhi around and this is when he finds his mate. I really like Ettie and wonder how she will fit in at the end of this series. Like I said I have more questions than answers in this book and yes I am repeating myself.
If you get lost best to read the prior books to get a sense of what what and who’s who. We have shifters, Fae, Reapers, mysteries with riddles lies covering truths and war with a lot in between.
4 - "Don’t give up on me…" Stars!
We return to the Reaper series with book five; Dark Alpha’s Night giving us Daire’s story.
He’d always been a bit of a rogue, his rebellious streak creating all sorts of havoc.
So, we are at the point in the series where as a reader I want to see things start moving along with the bigger story arc playing out, Bram is still causing mayhem, especially in relation to Erith and Cael, who are still circling each other like wary tigers, but in general things have sort of ground to a halt a little.
This is what she was meant to do. And Daire was who she was supposed to be with…
It was good to see Daire find his woman in this instalment, and the fact Ettie has two sisters’ gives me hope for a deeper storyline for the O’Byrne family playing out at some point. But I think more questions were added to the list than actually answered, the connection between Ettie and Daire is of the ‘insta’ variety, but all-in-all I enjoyed Dark Alpha’s Night.
"I want to see you beneath the sun and moon, so I can kiss, lick and touch every inch of you…"
I am looking forward to seeing where Donna takes this series next, with Eoghan still lost, but not forgotten, and Death starting the feel the effects of the power Bram has over her, I hope that the story starts picking up again and moving at a more steadier pace in the future novellas.
"I have a bad feeling about whats to come…"
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
This edition of the Reapers series focuses on Daire and Ettie. Daire is a Reaper. He works for Death. Ettie is human but part fae - which she didn't know. This particular book focuses on the war Death has with a fallen Reaper and the fallen's insistence in taking over the world.
Anyway, Daire and Ettie find themselves seriously attracted to one another. Daire recognizes his mate but Ettie has zero clue about any of that stuff. They chat. They make out. They go further. HA! Y'all read it and see.
This particular book is short. 158 pages +/-. You'll find yourself wanting to learn more about each of these characters. You'll also want to shake Death and tell her to get a freakin' grip...she's Death for goodness sake's. We can't have a wimpy Death.
If you like paranormal give this one and or the series a try!
I got so caught up reading this that I reached the end before I knew it. Dairy has been hanging out in the Dark Kings series. Tasked to follow Rhi, he has now been given the opportunity to work along side the other Reapers to defeat Bran. Ettie has been preparing all her life for a fight she is beginning to think will never occur. With the entrance of Bran and Daire into her life, the fight is just beginning.
I simply cannot get enough of Donna Grant's paranormal romances. I love them and "Dark Alpha's Night" is no exception. She writes such detailed and interesting plots that it keeps me up at night to finish the story. I really like the characters in this book. Good solid writing and dialogue was a treat.
Dark Alpha's Night by Donna Grant is book Five in the "Reaper" series. This is the story of Daire and Ettie ended. This can be a standalone book but I think it as to the enjoyment of the story to read the series.
Daire is a a reaper working with his friends to help keep order and to try to take out the bad guy that has been working against them and hurting others. Daire tries to help Ettie and her sister who are Half Fae and are in dangers.
Overall this was an exciting read that I enjoyed. Ms. Grant books are always ones that I look forward to reading! Great Series!
Ettie has been taught all her life to be ready. She is the protector of her little sisters. Carrie and Jamie are gorgeous and Ettie sees herself as the plain one. When a handsome man starts paying attention to her, she is flattered. But her sisters think there is something wrong with him. Daire is a Reaper and fae for Death. Daire is attracted to Ettie and will do anything to keep her safe. Death is slowly losing her powers to a rogue Reaper. Daire and his brethren’s are trying to find a way to kill Bran, the rogue Reaper. A spell was put on them where they can’t hurt Bran and Bran can’t hurt the Reapers. So they start searching for descendants of Brans. They come upon Ettie and her sister’s, there is something special about them. They are half fae and half humans. If they can get Ettie to trust them she may be their only chance at destroying Bran. Bran has his sights on the sisters and takes two of them and tells Ettie if she wants them back, she must sign over her land, House, and everything inside. They come up with a plan but will they be able to pull it off or will they end up killed? Shorty story. But you really need to read them in order or it’ll confuse you like it did me. Fae, Reapers, Death, and humans. Fighting, sex, and paranormal what more could you ask for? * Voluntarily read and reviewed this for Netgalley *
Donna Grant is fast becoming a favorite PNR author!
In this 5th installment to her Reaper series, Donna Grant answers a few questions, but leaves her readers craving more.
Daire didn't do what I thought he would do. (Sneaky author). Instead he finds something created just for him.
Ettie thinks of herself like the ugly duckling. She has to much responsibility to worry about relationships anyway. Until she captures the interest of a bad Fae. And a sexy Reaper.
I love how this authors mind works!
A Halfling unknowingly holds the key…
This is the fifth book in the Reapers series.
The enigmatic Death has reassigned Daire, the light Fae made Reaper after dying from betrayal, to be with his team instead of following the light Fae Rhi. The war against Bran is decidedly complicated, the Reapers need everyone focused on seeking those who can help them unravel the mysterious plans of their enemy before more of them die. On such a task Daire uncovers an interesting family lineage and sets out to find any living descendants there might be, the trail leads to three Halfling sisters who are half human, and half Fae. He stealthily observes them under the veil of a Reaper to learn about them and he’s appalled finding the enemy vying for the eldest’s attention, the one who also draws him the most. It’s now become imperative to warn them. Will they believe the story he has to tell them?
As the eldest of three sisters it’s the responsibility of Ettie O’Byrne to look after her siblings. She’s aware they’re Halflings but they’d never met any Fae in their corner of Ireland. Her father trained them to be warriors, to always be ready for what would come for them, yet he never told his daughters the why of it before his death, all his children knew was that he’d searched for the Fae but never found them. Now Ettie wonders if her father suffered from an obsession with the topic of Fae and spouted myth to them and then more than one enters their lives, one upfront about who he is, the other hiding his heritage.
Two gorgeous men appeared in Ettie’s life, when the first paid her attention it had been welcome due to her insecurities but there was something unsettling about him that bothered her as she kept company with him so she knew the story the second told her family was not to be discounted. The passionate feelings Daire evoked in her were also of no comparison. Though a Halfling she has no magic. What could she have that’s so important to Bran? Can Daire protect her against the one he can’t kill?
This intriguing paranormal saga continued with surprising twists. How will it all end is anyone’s guess. Bran increases in power as Death’s wanes, the Reapers yet again manage to find ways to delay his plans. Daire never expected to ever find a woman that could be his own though some of his comrades had, this reader thought he’d fallen for Rhi, one that could never be his for her heart lies elsewhere. The Reapers are unsupported this mission, Death is dealing with her own issues and has chosen to keep secrets from the ones who have been most loyal to her. We are given a peek into her history, what she once was that she fears to become again. What will it take to make Death fight for her existence?
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.
What can I say: Donna Grant just kind of grows on you. Since reading several of her Dark King series it was more easy to get into the story of Daire. Since I had already met Death and her Reapers in Heat, I knew Daire was the veiled Reaper following Rhi. But in this book he gets his own story. The Reapers are still after Bran, their ex-colleague, who is trying to take over by killing Death. And now he seems to be after the O'Byrne sisters, especially Ettie. The girls are Half-Fae, but the grew up in the regular world, without having met any Fae at all.
Daire is sent to Ettie to find out what she knows and to convince her not to take sides with Bran. However, Bran got to Ettie first and he is trying to seduce her. However, Ettie's sisters are trying to prevent this, because they think Bran is just a creep.
The story has a lot of twists and turns and it keeps you guessing what Bran is trying to reach. And we see Death getting weaker and weaker. Will Bran win or can a Half-Fae like Ettie stand in his way?
Find out for yourself in Dark Alpha's Night. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
Dark Alpha's Night is the fifth book in the Reaper series by Donna Grant. This exciting new series is a continuation of Dark World series. It brings to light new faces along with a deeper insight into the Reapers of the Dark and Light Fae who work under Death, who were teased about in the Dark World series till now and were depicted as the bogeyman of the Fae realm. While some of the favorite characters from the Dark World series do make cameos in the Reaper books, the focus is on illuminating a new mythos with brand new characters and relationships. We were introduced to this new world and the dark court with Dark Alpha's Claim, the first book in the series. Now we delve deeper into their world.
This book introduces Ettie O’Byrne, a half fae descendent of Bran. She's very intelligent and along with her sisters waits for a world she is destined to play an important role in. Unbeknownst to her, her family has protected Death's sword for generations and she has the power to summon and wield it.
Daire is a highly powerful light fae who was made a reaper by Death. He along with his compatriots is one of the fae's fabled executioners on the orders of Death, who acts as Judge and Jury.
Together, Daire and Ettie work together to save themselves from Bran and try to find a way to break the his hold and protect Erith's (Death) sword. This book does justice to its name and is truly spellbinding. Donna Grant creates characters with such depth that you just can't help rooting for them.
Have read several books by this wonderful author and highly recommend this one.
]How far would you go to protect the ones that you love? Daire has been given a new mission to go and find Bran's descendants, he isn't happy as he has enjoyed his time with Rhi. But he knows that he has to help so that they can defeat Bran and find their fellow reaper Eoghan before it is too late. But he isn't expecting Ettie and her sisters, they have listened to their father tell them stories about the Fae but they have never seen any. So when Bran comes calling she knows that there is something strange about him and she can't understand why her sisters feel so stronger about him. Can she believe what Daire is telling her? She always believed her father and knowing that he was right all this time makes more sense about plan for his daughters. But can she trust Daire and the other reapers will they be able to stop Bran for good. Things don't go according to plan and Bran escapes but Daire has found the one that makes him whole. He has always fought against finding someone but his heart has chosen for him and he can't ask for a better partner. Ettie has a edge over Bran so hopefully they can use her strength in the coming fight. Death is slowly dying and she fears that she will become the one thing that she left behind and she doesn't want Cael to see her this way but he is angry with her. But can she be honest with him for both of their sakes? The war is heating up and I hope that they can destroy Bran and save Death before it is too late. No matter what Donna writes about they suck us straight in. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.
Dark Alpha’s Night by Donna Grant
A Reaper Novel #5
I was lucky enough to get in on this spin-off series from the beginning BUT sometimes wish that I had started from the beginning of this wonderfully crafted world filled with stories of warriors, dragons, fae, halflings and others…it is enchanting and enthralling and makes me eager to read whatever comes next…even when I am not 100% sure what the storyline was before the book I am currently reading. I will sometimes search out reviews of books that precede a book I am getting ready to read so that I have some idea of what has preceded…that said…
I loved this book!
I am engaged in the series
I want to read the story of each and every Reaper
I am eager to find out if Death/War/Erith and Cael with ever get their HEA
I really REALLY want to get the entire series at some point in time and read them from beginning to end
This series would make a WONDERFUL TV series ;)
Okay…the story…
It is Daire’s turn to find true love and he finds it with a Halfling, Ettie, who has been raised with her sisters “to be ready” – for what – they have not a clue. So they have trained in the art of war and waited and now it is time for them to become embroiled in the war brewing between Bran and Erith…
So much happened in a novella length story and all of it was good. Daire and Ettie ended up together. Bran was thwarted again. Insights were given into how Bran is increasing his power and Death is losing hers. We learned more about Death and a bit more about her time before she took on the moniker Death. There was mention of characters in other series and what I found most intriguing was the simple way the previous characters’ stories were shared so that a newbie to the series would not be totally lost.
Did I like this story? Yes
Do I recommend it? Yes
Will I read more by this author? Definitely
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
Another amazing story by Donna Grant! I loved Daire and Ettie together, it's great seeing the Reapers finding their loves.
The only reasons why I rated this five stars because of the Reaper in this book. And how the story unfolds.
As the fifth book of the Reapers their is slowing showing in the world where the Kings and the Warriors reside. For the Fae, they maybe a legend, a myth, and something to scare their children, but for the people that are caught in the coming war...the Reapers are formidable allies.
From the last book of Heat, Cael, has extended a hand to the Kings, from there, Daire, well...sorry nope, you need to read the book. The revelations and the action will really shock you or you will forever curse the villain in this series.
What I love about the Dark Series, is its unshakable value of family. From the Dark Sword, to the Warriors, till the Kings...and now the Reapers, the value of each family member, may it be blood or not, the core value is there.
We are a family, not matter how we came to be, we will do this together...for you are not alone.
Ms. Donna's books make us realize that our blood family, may hurt us, but there are connections that are far more deeper than blood.
In every page, in every paragraph, and in every word, we are given a chance to see that love can truly come in may forms. The greatest love might be finding your true love, but nothing beats a love of a peoples acceptance in making you a part of a family.
I look forward to reading the other books in the Dark series.
~The ARC was provided by Justin Sha, and i willingly submit a honest review for it. ~
So, what did I like about it?
I am becoming a fan of Donna Grant’s books; I find her writing style easy to read, I like the way she paces her plot development and love the fantasy world that she has created.
I liked the way that Ms Grant uses her first chapter to introduce us to the Reapers, give us a brief outline of their history, highlights some of the pertinent story arcs and gets you wondering how they can win the war against their enemy, Bran and his army.
Now, based on the couple of books that I read so far, I am beginning to realise that Ms Grant loves the romantic aspect between her lead couple to be concluded by the end of each book; I love Happy Ever After endings, no nasty cliffhangers wondering will they, won’t they? Woop! Woop!
I connect to a story more if the lead female character is intelligent, resilient and has a good sense of humour that’s similar to my own and I wasn’t disappointed here. Ettie was amazing, what an inspiring woman! I liked the way that all of the characters in this story were written - even the villain of the tale – none of them were flat 2-dimensional creations, they all felt very real.
Dark Alpha's Night managed to surprise me a couple of times, had me reaching for a tissue *sniff*, growling in tense frustration, smiling and I can’t tell you how many times the temperature seemed to mount while reading certain scenes too! *blush* Throughout this book, I found myself desperate to find out what would happen next, staying up late to finish just one more chapter, in other words I was gripped!
So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
No, not really. Yes, Dark Alpha's Night features an existing story arc that had started in a previous book and continues through this story and beyond but that’s OK because I feel that the current situation was concluded to my satisfaction, the girl got her man, there’s no life or death cliffhanger and it’s just the background war with the Reapers’ nemesis Bran that still continues.
So, basically what I’m saying is...
I really enjoyed this book; it was a tale that kept me reading from start to finish – I was hooked! Dark Alpha's Night has everything that I look for in a good book; adventure, some mystery, a bit of action, great characters, a little humour and even a sprinkling of romance and passion.
I would recommend this to adults who wants read a paranormal romance with an “against-the-clock” backstory that keeps you turning the pages from start to finish.
I enjoyed this book, the plot flowed well and it as quick, there were no boring lag points. I would have enjoyed some more in-depth character development, but this was fine for the length of the book. I liked the characters and would like to read more about them and the other characters in this book.
