Enjoyable read just didn’t really grab and keep my attention I felt the main characters could have been expanded so much more especially Ettie and her training and the battle.
Dark Alpha’s Night is book 5 in the Reaper series. These books should be read in order for the full enjoyment of the storyline and characters. I loved Daire and Ettie’s characters the were well suited and I think Ettie will be a fabulous addition to the reapers.

While I enjoyed this, it was probably my least favorite of the series. Things just seemed to move too quick once they began and I didn't form any sort of connection with main characters. I was simply content with them at best. What I enjoyed the most was learning more about Erith and her past. I was happy to learn exactly how Bran was stealing her powers too...even if it was pretty ridiculous.
Speaking of Bran. He sort of tipped the scale towards creeper instead of bad guy for me for a lot of this book when he starts dating his own descendant. I don't care how diluted it was at this point. He's up to his schemes again and this time has his sites on something that will allow him to kill Erith.
That's where Ettie comes in. Their whole life, her and her sisters have been taught to fight and told to always be prepared. For what they have no idea. Until Bran shows up worming his way into her life with his looks, charm, and pretty words. Fortunately for her, Daire chose to remain with his brothers when given the choice to keep following Rhi or help out his fellow Reapers. Tasked with tracking down Bran's descendants is what leads him to Ettie. Just in time to help when Bran decides to stop playing around and turn off the charm.
We learn some neat things here, and also some that could be devastating if they continue on the way they are. And even though I didn't love this book, I'm more than ready for the next one.
After finishing this book, I had to purchased the first book from series. I can't wait to devour them.
I think this is my favorite of the series so far. I loved Daire with Ettie. His was instantly drawn to her. After descriptions of her two sisters being more beautiful, I like that he only saw her. He thought she was the most beautiful woman he has met. What's not to love about that?
Ettie's background made for a fascinating story line. She and her sisters are halflings. Her father has passed down the knowledge of Fae and that they must train for war and be ready.
Since the Reapers and Death can not kill Bran, they need to find descendants of Bran who can. We learn that Ettie and her sisters are descendants of one of Brans children. Just as Daire and the Reapers track them down, so has Bran. Daire must convince the sisters to side with the Reapers against Bran.
We are not at the end yet. Not everything is resolved but we are getting closer. You will want to read this series in order. This is a contented storyline with a lot of the same characters as well as new ones. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Another spellbinding tale !!. This was book 5 in the series and they are out of this world (pun intended !). This was Daire ad Ettie's book and it did not disappoint. I love the whole mythical, fae, executioner story line.
It was paced perfectly, had suspense, a few surprises to jolt my heart and plenty of smoldering romance......the perfecta trifica.
Donna is an excellent author who truly captivates and draws the reader into this amazing world. I have devoured each one of her books to date !. You will not be disappointed !
Well done Donna for another gripping and thrilling read. Many thanks for this opportunity xx
5+++ Reap my heart stars from me xx
Dark Alpha’s Night is book 5 in the Reaper series. These books should be read in order for the full enjoyment of the storyline and characters. I loved Daire and Ettie’s characters the were well suited and I think Ettie will be a fabulous addition to the reapers. I can’t wait to read the next book and highly recommend if you haven’t started reading Donna Grant you start today!!
The next Reaper story was alright. I felt like they they came together quickly and once they did, it was kind of rushed. It had a novella feel to the sequence of events. It was Daire’s story so I expected and wanted more. He is the Reaper that has been following Rhi so I feel like I’ve gotten to know him the, best so for his story I wanted it more elaborate like the Dark King’s books. I wanted it to have highs and lows, passion and adventure, and more development. I did like the character of Ettie and the concept of the sword of Erith’s. What is happening to Death is adding more to the overall plot of the series and I want more from her and Cael. I did enjoy the story but it doesn’t stand out like some others in the Dark universe. This was an enjoyable read, but because of it being Daire's story I just wanted more.
Dark Alpha's Night is the fifth book in the Reaper series by Donna Grant.
I feel as if each book in this series gets better and better. Love, Death, Destruction..... A nail biting read.
The story begins with Daire, who is one of death's apprentices. He is a loyal warrior who protects what is rightfully his.
And thus meets Ettie.... his salvation. And soon their relationship turns into love.
The second in series.
A different paranormal story about Fae,humans, reapers and death.
Daire has to save Ettie from Bran and ex reaper before he uses her to destroy humanity.
Good drama,mystery,suspense and romance.
Enjoyed reading.
Voluntarily reviewed.
This is the second book I've read by this author and I'm slowly getting sucked in this world. I like it! I mtt Daire in another book and no way did it hint at this. So I was plenty glad to read his story.
I need to read a few more books of Donna Grant to truly se the bigger picture. And to know how the reaper's war vs Bran fits in with the whole universe. Bad Bran. He meets Ettie first and makes it a bit more difficult for Ettie to believe Daire. Ettie herself has started to doubt the path her father set for them. But all things are revealed in time and comes to head faster than I thought it would that I feel like I've missed a few chapters. Even Daire and Ettie coming together felt rushed. They're both great characters but their love story feels rushed. I feel like rereading a few chapters to check if I missed anything.
Along with Daire and Ettie and a slew of great supporting cast (here anyway) that I can't wait to get my hands on their story. Cael, Erith, Carrie and Jamie...
Thank you netgalley for introducing this author to me!
I think I should have read the series from the start and not as a standalone.
Fast paced paranormal romance book following Fae and Humans and the battle to save humanity.
Good writing, just found it a little hard to connect with the characters and get into the story. I regret thinking this was a standalone because I think I would have loved the story if I had read the other characters storyline.
Daire is on the hunt for Bran. He is sure that there is some link involving Bran's children that he left behind when he became a reaper. The trail leads him to the feisty sisters led by Ettie.
Ettie is the glue holding her sisters together. One sister can cook up a storm, the other is a mechanical whizz. Both are desperate to leave their little patch of land and spread their wings. But something is keeping Ettie tied to the land of her forebears. But when a handsome stranger suddenly pays her far too much attention she feels that something untoward is happening. Thankfully Daire blinks in to save the day before Bran can wheedle his way into the girls affections.
What lies in the mysterious cupboard? Why is Death herself succumbing to a strange energy sapping? These and a lot more questions were answered but another few were raised. I really enjoy this series. You can engage the brain with all the myths and legends or just go with the flow of the romance. I'm hugely enjoying this series. I can't wait to see what happens next!
There is nothing not to love about this book. The author delivers a creative and unique concept along with characters that leap off the page. I'm hitting the series midway and normally that would be a significant speed bump but Grant manages to tell a story that increases your curiosity but doesn't leave you floundering if you read out of order. I enjoyed my reading experience so much that I'm starting the series from the beginning. I loved the female characters. The three sisters were entertaining and more importantly, capable women. I love strong men but I hate when they save day for female character. Here the women play a vital roll in saving themselves and stepping up to face their destiny.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Daire is a Reaper, he works for Death. The Reaper's are looking for Bran, an original Reaper who has turned against the Reapers. Bran has something that is slowly draining power from Death and giving it to him. Death will die and Bran will be unbeatable. The Reaper's are looking for Bran's descendants and Daire has found them...as has Bran.
Ettie and her sister's are half fae although they never knew it. The first time Daire sees Ettie he feels as if lightning has struck him. He knows she is his mate. He needs to convince her that Bran is out to harm her. As she gets to know Bran more, Ettie starts to feel uncomfortable with Bran. She did enjoy the attention he gave her but it is nothing like what she feels towards Daire.
Bran will not be stopped now, when he is so close....
This is part of a series but is a standalone book. I think there is enough backtracking to explain the past. Every time I read another from this series I swear it is my favorite...until the next one comes along!
Daire is a serious guy are all the Reaper's. They were chosen to watch the dark fae and to eliminate them if they preyed on humans. When Ettie first meets he and the other Reapers she doesn't know who to believe but that doesn't last long, they need to work together to stop Bran.
I love Ms. Grants' writing. She captures me from the first page and makes me want to read until I finish the story!
This was my first book in the series. I did not feel completely lost at the beginning, but it would have been nest to have read the previous books. I like the concept of reapers and fae as the characters. I thought that the characters were really interesting and it was a fairly fast read. This book left me wondering what would happen next.
Another exciting story by Donna Grant in the magical world of light versus dark, good versus evil! I had read part of her dragon series, the Dark Kings, and thoroughly enjoyed each book, so it was fun to read another perspective on the same timeline. While the Dark Kings focuses on the dragon perspective, the Reaper series focuses on the fae. And who doesn't like a good fae story? It's right up there with dragons for me.
There are dark forces at work to destory the Reapers' leader, Death, and the man at the helm of the destruction, Bran, seems unstoppable. None of the Reapers can harm him, and the Fae can't learn of the Reapers without risking death, so the only answer is to find a Halfling. And Daire, a Reaper who has gone in search of Bran's halfling descendants, has found one who might just fit the bill - if only Bran hadn't found her first. Ettie O'Byrne has always lived in the shadow of her younger sisters, but when a handsome man shows her attention, she is caught in his spell. Until she comes across a curious man in the woods who claims to be Fae. His spell is even more alluring, and he is there to save her.
This was a bit of a difficult read for me, not because I don't love Donna Grant's writing (because I do), but this particular book was just not connecting with me for a large portion of the story. Maybe it was because I hadn't read the previous books in the Reaper series, although Donna is so good about giving a backstory that I don't see that as being the issue. Thinking back, I think my main problem was that there was not enough build-up in the romance. The tension was eased too quickly, I wanted more angst between Ettie and Daire. Don't get me wrong - I loved both characters and thoroughly enjoyed their interactions. I just needed it to not be so easy. Ettie's sisters were definitely intriguing and I look forward to reading their stories in the future, if they eventually each get a book. They certainly had enough personality for it! It was great to see how the battle was progressing and learn more about the fae characters.
I really, really want to read the love story between Death and Cael. Don't tell me it's not happening, or I will cry. That little taste of a story was really compelling to me, and I can't wait to read more. Hopefully Donna Grant will take pity and write it soon!
**I received a free copy via NetGalley and this is my honest review.**
This is most definitely a series best read in order with lots of characters that actually connect to the authors Dragon King stories. Yes here we get Reapers but it's a book that's all about the Fae and even Death who just happens to be a person and with this instalment some of her secrets just might be coming to light.
So essentially the Reapers work for Death as her executioners and it's their job to make sure that the Fae don't overrun the human realm. They are frantically trying to find the descendants of Bran a former Reaper whose dark powers are growing . Daire tracks down three sisters who are clearly Half-Fae but he's obviously too late as one of them seems to be under Brans spell ! Can Daire convince Ettie that she's in danger ? More to the point though is exactly what does Bran want from Ettie ?
Daire is a character who has been off on an assignment for Death so readers of the Dragon King books probably have wondered exactly who he would be partnered with. Well step forward Ettie and I have to say when it comes to passion and romance this couple don't wait around ! Frankly it's a little too fast for me but works in these books which are slightly shorter. There are huge clues in this book about the overall story arc although a lot less action than in some but nevertheless I did enjoy it and will continue to read this series as things are definitely hotting up.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Dark Alpha's Night by Donna Grant is Book 5 of the Reaper Series.
I can’t get enough of Ms. Grant’s writing...absolovingit! I definitely recommend that you read the previous stories in this series, as well as the spinoff series so that you easily navigate the storyline. There has been a lot of build-up of mass proportions that you don’t want to miss...so get to reading!
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
Daire is a Reaper. One of the group that work for Death to keep the balance between the Light and Dark Fae. They are at a disadvantage because they cannot kill their main enemy.
Ettie and her sisters know about the Fae, and have been training to fight all their lives. They just don't know why their father was so insistent they learn.
When the trouble turns up will Ettie be able to do anything to save them? Which one of the new men around will help or kill them?
A magical story that is part of a series that is best read in order. An action packed read that you can't put down.
