Oh. My. God. This book.

I am SO FRIGGING HAPPY that this is the first book in a new series because, holy crap. I need to read many many many many more chapters to this story.

Teddy Cannon is a scrappy, bright, resourceful woman - who finds herself in massive debt to a Russian mobster and living in her parents garage. When a mysterious stranger appears in her life, offering her an out if she will agree to enroll in a top secret School for Psychics, Teddy realizes that she may have finally found somewhere that has the answers to the strange abilities she's always had.

Learning to hone skills she never understood, and making a group of friends that are just as strange as her, Teddy finally begins to settle in, until she finds herself in the middle of a dangerous situation that causes her to question everything and everyone in her new life.

K.C. Archer has NAILED IT with this book. Quick paced, intriguing, mysterious, and quirky - I inhaled this book in one sitting. It completely captured me and will be added to the list of books that left me wishing desperately that I had awesome magical (in this case, telekinesis) skills.

I am so excited for this book to hit shelves April 3rd so I can recommend this for my next book club read. Seriously guys, if you want a twist on a mystery read, THIS IS IT.

While a lot of readers are calling this a fantasy YA book, I'm not sure that is the correct genre for this book. 

Most of the characters are twenty-somethings and all have some type of special ability. Being a huge fan of the X Men, it felt a lot like that. A special school full of young adults learning to control their gifts and learn to use them in a productive way. In other words, working for the government.

There have been rumors for years that the government has experimented with using telekinetic powers and more to their advantage. While this can be a positive thing, you just know that some nut job is going to abuse the power.

Teddy is sarcastic and definitely her own person. Adopted, she has never known who or what she really is. It's only through dreams that she receives messages and hints of them.The question is what happened to them and why is there so much secrecy?

I personally enjoyed the story and am glad to see that there will be more.

I first learned of this book last year and requested it through NetGalley a couple weeks ago when I saw it pop up on someone’s book haul list. I liked the title, hated the cover, and thought the synopsis was interesting. I decided to give it a try.

The story quickly appealed to me. I took a liking to the protagonist, Teddy, within the first few chapters when she’s at a casino gambling to set her life straight. When she’s recruited for the School for Psychics, my interested perked up even more because I wondered what that would be like, and I was compelled to sympathize with her as she reflected on the many ways she has fucked up and now feels like a disappointment, which led her to take the opportunity the school offers. I was hooked on this story until Teddy got to the School for Psychics and then everything went downhill.

I read about half of the story before giving up on it. I didn’t like the writing and was annoyed by the characters and numerous inconsistencies in the plot. The book is listed as “General Fiction (Adult), Sci Fi & Fantasy” on NetGalley, but as I read, it became increasingly obviously that the novel is YA. There is a level of maturity missing from the plot and the characters that makes me unable to believe this novel is intended for adults. Furthermore, the quick inclusion of a love triangle and the messy navigation of it strikes me more as YA, where such things often occur. (Sidenote: I’m annoyed by and tired of love triangles, unless it’s done well, which hardly ever happens.)

It was also difficult to keep track of the passage of time, and that’s not because the characters’ psychic abilities were messing with it. Events that occurred a day before in one paragraph would be said to have happened weeks before in the following paragraph. That wouldn’t have been a problem (I guess) if characters and their relationships were shown to have developed over the time passed, but that didn’t happen. It still seemed as if the event had occurred only the day before. It made me confused about when things happened and what exactly is the status of the characters’ relationships.

And the school itself was not appealing at all. It’s supposed to be an academy training psychic 20-somethings how to be FBI operatives or work in other law enforcement organizations, but instead it was like a high-school filled with immature teens. It just didn’t work for me.

The premise of the story is interesting and the protagonist was easy to like, but the story didn’t work because it needed more development. I could see where the author was going with this, and I wanted to go there too, but I couldn’t stand the inconsistencies. I couldn’t make it to the end.

Ok... so I was super intrigued by the premise of this book. Psychics?! I'm in... but wow this book was not what I was hoping or expecting at all.

Teddy our main character has a gift of being able to "read" people. She is offered a place in School of Psychics with others like herself that have different special abilities. I did not like Teddy whatsoever... felt like I was kind of reading a YA novel but Teddy was super immature to my liking but she's supposed to be an adult? But, haha I guess we all know one or two people that act like children lol :).

I thought the book would have picked up speed when Teddy arrived at this school but it fell extremely flat for me :(. I'm not really into fantasy/sci-fi novels and unfortunately this one just wasn't for me.

2 stars for me on this one.

when i first started reading this book i immediately thought this is just like the school in x-men and the programme alphas...its in the same catagory dont get me wrong but its the start of a thrilling series

we start off with teddy who needs to get money fast hence the reason it starts in vegas at the bellagio and gamble, she cant lose, she knows what others are gonna bet on or fold but there is one problem she is banned for all the casinos in vegas hence the disguise, but things dont go as planned......

the school is in San Francisco and just a journey by boat...alcatraz is nearby and from there teddy meets more of her kind...but she isnt a team player...but she has to stick to the regime or she is out..this is her last chance....

this first book in the series by the mysterious author sets a scene that pulls you in...and introduces you to a varied amount of characters and their skills some of it is amazing and brilliant...

cant wait for the next book in this series...and whoever the author is, this is a brilliant first book that kicks off a potentially good series...roll over x-men these guys are coming

An exciting young adult story with a compelling lead character. A girl with paranormal abilities gets into big trouble with the bad guys in Vegas. She doesn't really know she's psychic, just a good guesser. This is a coming of age, fitting in story with a paranormal twist. I like it.

I so wanted to enjoy this novel. But I ended up with a meh response. The only thing that kept me interested was the prose. It's a beautifully written novel, just not my cup of tea.

I don't know what pulled my toward this novel - I definitely stay away from books that have sequels...maybe it was the psychic portion...I was in and once I was in I was hooked...it was a fast pace thrill ride of cool lingo that I sometimes couldn't comprehend but I skipped ahead. Very much liked the main character - she's super cool. Will look out for new book since it ended on a cliff hanger...

School for Psychics is the first book in a new series by K.C. Archer. The story starts off with the main character, Teddy, trying to rectify a situation. One she got into after some poor decisions. Fortunately, help comes in the form of an offer to join the School for Psychics. Teddy just has to decide whether she will accept the offer or take her chances and attempt to solve her problems on her own.

I really enjoyed School for Psychics. I found it to be engaging and interesting. I liked the main character Teddy. She isn't perfect, she has flaws and she knows it. She's cynical, a bit selfish, and has a difficult time opening up and trusting others. I liked that she took some steps in bettering herself in this book. I also enjoyed her interactions with the other characters. I am looking forward to seeing the progression of both the story and her character in future books.

I got this book and knew nothing about it and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. This story brought to mind Xavier’s school of mutants. Teddy a girl in her Twenties finds out she is Psychic and doesn’t suffer from epilepsy as she thought growing up. She discovers this after an encounter with a teacher from The Whitfield Institute who is recruiting her for the school. This is her last chance to make something of her life and she decides to take it. Little did she know what she would discover about her background and there is more going on in the school than meets the eye.

A quick fun read and I wanted to know what was going on. I would recommend this if you like taking a trip to a new school and being drawn in to a mystery to figure out what is happening.

I absolutely loved the book which I read in just a few days. Teddy Cannon, 24 year old young woman who took bad decisions most of her life. Adopted at a young age, parents killed in a car crash (or so she thought).
Teddy is invited to join School of Psychics, the school reminded me of the X-Men series, a highly secretive , competitive school where they train to use the gifts which they have.
Loved the book and I’m looking forward to the next book from this author.

Teddy is a mess. She's banned from all the casinos in Las Vegas, she's owes a TON of money to some mobsters. She's stolen money from her parents. She's on the verge of a huge win...when something goes wrong and she's in even deeper trouble than before.

Teddy is then approached by a stranger, telling her that she's psychic and has the opportunity to go to a school for gifted people. (It's VERY XMen, TBH) If she agrees, her debt to her parents will be paid and the mob will get off her back.

This will be a great series....for young adults. There's the stereotypical school drama, Teddy is a surly lead character. While these characters are in their early 20s, they all act very childish.

I received this first book in a new series as an egalley from the publisher. An entertaining read that features Teddy Cannon, a young woman who lives in Las Vegas and has an uncanny knack for reading cards. When she is just about to be nabbed by casino security for using her talent, she is rescued by a stranger who offers her a place at the secret government school for psychics in San Francisco, a more attractive option than her current situation. Teddy finds school a challenge as it is a combination of rigorous physical and psychic training as well as a SWAT component. But teddy makes frilearns to control her psychic powers and pursues the mystery of disappearing students at the school, leading to discovery of treachery and information about her biological parents.

Teddy Cannon doesn't realize the reason she is so good at cards is because she is psychic. All she knows is that all of the casinos have banned her, she owes a scary guy named Sergio a lot of money, and she lives in her parent's garage. Not exactly where she thought she would be in her twenties. Then a guy named Clint swoops and in offers to take care of her debt in exchange for her enrolling in the Whitman Institute.....a school for psychics. Teddy debates her options and decides to give it a try. There she learns just how powerful she really is..
This is the first book in a new series, and I am personally really looking forward to the next book. There was lots of action, some intrigue, and even a little romance thrown in there. I think this series has a lot of potential to become really popular.

This was a fast read that was pretty entertaining. I liked Teddy enough as a main character, though she did sometimes fall into the trappings of the edgy girl who shuts people out. I did like the number of different psychics that Archer brought to this story, giving specific skills to specific characters. From an animal medium to an empath to a pyrokinetic, the various skills are in different characters instead of just making them all under one umbrella term and type. I am kind of frustrated with other overused plot devices that are present, such as the dreaded love triangle that Teddy is in between her classmate and one of her teachers, as I think that it would be nice to have a female protagonist who isn't so concerned about her love life when other more pressing matters are at hand. But that said, I think I know what team I'm on, because apparently I can rail against it but still be invested in it! I was most intrigued by Clint, the man who recruited Teddy, because he seems to have a pretty interesting back story. I'd like to know more about him, personally, but as the series goes on maybe we'll get some info in that vein.

A solid read but not captivating enough to pick the next book in the series.

The School for Psychics by K.C. Archer was part X-Men, part Ocean’s 11, and part Hogwarts for intuitives. The story follows Teddy, a young con artist who finds herself being recruited by the School for Psychics after her gambling luck comes under surveillance. From there the story takes place at the School where we meet a variety of characters each with their own psychic ability- one can set fires with his mind, another can communicate with animals, some receive premonitions and so forth. We uncover family secrets and a shady government organization who is using some of the recruits for ulterior purposes. There’s romance, espionage, mysterious disappearances, and good conspiracy theory with some dark overtones. I liked how this book focused on the psychic arts as I believe this is an untapped genre in fiction today considering most books center on witches, vampires, werewolves, etc. I wish the government and military were left out of the story as I felt it detracted from the fantasy and psychic elements of the plot. The first few chapters had me hooked, but I found myself struggling to finish the book. It was a little slow paced for my liking and there were too many characters that were included which was confusing at times. The twist at the end wasn’t satisfying because a character that was only briefly introduced to us at the beginning, ended up being the main culprit. There seems to be a sequel in the works and I probably would be interested in reading it as there are some mysteries that I would like to see solved. Overall I enjoyed this refreshing story-line and hope to see the intuitive genre gain some momentum.

What an adventure for Teddy. She meets other psychics, gets into lots of troubling situations, and almost discovers where to find her missing mother. This is an action packed adventure that leaves you waiting for more adventures from this school of Misfits!
