I will not be posting a review on goodreads because I was unable to enjoy this book and do not feel comfortable leaving a negative review.
Picked it up and put it down a few times before I got into it. A little slow in the beginning but hang in there. Glad I did. Dont expect to like all the characters. (Never a requirement in a book in my opinion, anyway. Sad, but good ending.
Deliciously creeping. Great follow up to her first novel. Highly recommended. Kept me up all night until the final page. Can't wiat for next novel fro this author.
While I Was really intrigued by the plot, the story was just not for me. I've learned over the years that I'm very character driven when I read...if I can't relate to any characters it's harder for me to enjoy a book, and these characters are all just plain mean and nasty. The story line it;self is decent and something that puts a new spin on things, but i wasn't invested enough to want to keep reading it.
Unfortunately, I did not finish. I appreciate the opportunity to read this tale. Sadly I found this story a bit convoluted and lost interest halfway in.
I don't read many thrillers, but when I do I usually don't enjoy them this much. The theme of sisterhood was kinda thrawcked on a tad hard, but it didn't abstract too much from the suspense.
I enjoyed this book on the same level as The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager. It was suspenseful and had me guessing until the last chapter. When Brett, the favorite of a Real Housewives-style reality show is murdered it’s up to her sister and the new cast member Kelly to give an in-depth TV interview before the season airs and in the end try to figure out who really killed Brett, because what viewers think is the truth really isn’t.
I really tried to get into this one, but I just couldn’t. I sincerely enjoyed her first book, but this one didn’t work for me. There were too many characters and I didn’t connect with any of them or care about the story line at all. While this one didn’t work for me, I am still looking forward to trying out whatever this author writes next, because hopefully this was just a fluke.
While I wasn’t able to finish this one, I did post several times prompting this book and generating excitement for it. I’ll include those links here, but I did not post a negative review for it on my social media because I genuinely think this just wasn’t for me, but could be for others.
This book was as amazing as expected, given how much I loved Luckiest Girl.
My only complaint is the constant rotation between so many characters and times could be slightly hard to keep track of, especially since I was reading 2-3 page snippets between having a fussy baby. However it’s a testament to the authors well crafted characters that it was easy to figure out who I was reading within a few sentences - each character truly had their own voice and perspective to add.
Each twist was more unexpected than the last, and it never felt heavy handed or overdone.
A book about a reality TV show involving women? You have to know going in that it is going to have tons of drama filled with powerful women who will do anything to get ahead. Similar to "Real Housewives”
Five successful women are about to star in another season of “Goal Diggers.” Let the games begin! What was best about this story of five successful women on a reality TV show was the ending, which provided lots of fun unexpected twists and turns.
Getting to that ending was a little challenging because the story is told from the points of view of the five different women on the show. But so worth it....
Unfortunately, this book really missed the mark for me. I loved Luckiest Girl Alive. In fact, I was traveling for work while reading Luckiest Girl Alive and ended up not going out with my co-workers because I was SO in to it and just wanted to stay back in my hotel room and read. The Favorite Sister just had WAY too much going on. I was so excited for the premise; I'm a reality tv kind of girl so that alone intrigued me, add in murder and suspense and I'm wanting to devour the book! Sadly, there were WAY TOO MANY CHARACTERS to keep straight and they were just all over the place. Like, really all over the place-- as was the plot and story line and alternative POV's. You wouldn't even know when it was a new character until a few paragraphs in! The intro and first chapter alone were enough to lose me. I just couldn't get in to this book and I really, really wanted to. I had such high hopes for this one!
This was like a season of UnREAL but with more of a focus on the people on the show, rather than the producers. Fantastic read. So much fun, so many lies and twists. Loved it.
Jessica Knoll has a knack for keeping readers on the edge of their seats. This book was no different. interesting and suspenseful the whole way through~!
I really loved Luckiest Girl Alive, so I was thrilled to dig into The Favorite Sister. This book is very, very different than the author's debut novel, so it could be why it wasn't as well reviewed as Luckiest Girl Alive. Once I stopped comparing the book to the Luckiest Girl Alive, I enjoyed it so much more. It was definitely a juicy read and the perfect book for a rainy day when you just want to turn your brain off for a few hours. All the characters had issues and my interest was held enough to keep reading to see who was dead.
Just could not get into this story for some reason. The characters were not of real interest. I guess sometimes a reader and a book just don't connect. The writing was fine, but I just couldn't get through the entire book. Will give the author another try because the potential for a connection is definitely possible.
The interaction between all the characters, and the way I felt towards each of them made this book all the more fun to read. I absolutely despised a couple of the characters, but without them the story would have been boring. The plot was fun, and made for an interesting read. The characters were constantly shifting their feelings towards each other, and that kept me intrigued. This book was well thought out and I enjoyed the cattiness of it.
Another exciting well written by one of my favorite authors. I was excited to read this. I love the anxiety inducing theme of the story.
Wow! This was an excellent follow up to Jessica Knoll's debut novel, Luckiest Girl Alive.
The Favorite Sister was full of of things that make your jaw drop and take a deep breath. I found myself often reading with my mouth agape thinking What! What??? That's one of the highest praises I can give an author.
Full of good old fashioned female love/hate relationships, this book was downright a lesson in petty catty-ness, but it's pulled off in such a remarkable way that the book feels anything but snippy. It's a gritty and real picture of how women can be. The characters are so damn real! They are complex, emotional, pull yourself up by the boot strap girls. The fight for everything they have - even when they have to fight dirty.
The narrative is done remarkable well - Jessica simply gets out of the way and lets the story tell itself. Another high praise for an author. The premise for the novel is something completely unique. I never had that too often moment of feeling like I'd already read this book.
Overall a great read!
This was okay. I keep trying to give Knoll a shot at being an author I can get into, but I just can’t. The characters are difficult to relate to, and the story(ies) can be hard to follow at times.
After falling HARD for Jessica Knoll's debut, LUCKIEST GIRL ALIVE, I was beside myself waiting for her next release. When I heard about THE FAVORITE SISTER, it instantly went straight to my To Read list and the moment I saw it was available on NG, I pounced.
Unfortunately, my expectations were far too high. I'm not sure what happened here, the premise sounds like it's practically written just for me, but sadly THE FAVORITE SISTER was a DNF.
