I loved this book! Ley did an excellent job of weaving history with present day.

Sister Julia enters a convent not from her own choosing but rather as a means for her parents to ensure her safety. She’s given the task of working in maternity wards and makes an awful discovery. But what will Sister Julia. Thought twists and turns it becomes apparent to her how to reveal such evil taking place.

I felt like I was walking alongside Sister Julia during her life.

I would highly recommend this book.

This book was rather long but I did not expect the ending so soon. The story took a long route to get to where it was going then stopped abruptly. I would have liked to know what happened next since it took so long to get there.

The title says it all - everyone has a secret and somehow all these secrets end up being intertwined. Ruby finds out she is adopted after her adoptive parents are deceased. She sets out to find out who her real mother is. Sister Julia has a secret in that she she recorded all of the names of the babies that were taken from their mothers to b e adopted by others. Andreas turns out to be the subject of a secret. A most fascinating book telling of the illegal adoptions during Franco's regime,, those caught up in it and the consequences. A fascinating book, but the subject matter is rather dark.

In modern-day England, Ruby is packing up her parents things after their sudden deaths when she comes across information about her family that send her on a trip across Europe to uncover the truth about the parents she thought she knew. In 1939, Julia follows her family’s plea and enters a convent in Barcelona in 1939, the only way they believe she will be safe during the War. But the convent practices what Julia considers to be unsavory adoption practices, something the young novice cannot accept. This is a reprint, the book was originally published a few years ago. I had already read it, but the cover design was new, so it threw me off. A really enjoyable read that plays the past off the present
