The Emerald Lily by Juliette Cross portrayed some likeable characters, and the Vampire Blood series as a whole highlighted even more. While the story held promise, starting rather action-packed like, it tapered off quickly, only to re-awaken again midway through the story, reviving a somewhat slow read. While the story did not grab me as a whole, Mikhail's character did have shining moments, so too Mina's character. However, the story seemed to jump from one paranormal/fantasy aspect to another, seeming to want to outshine itself in each step in the story, which, in the end, became a bit too unbelievable. The first book in the series held so much promise for the series that ended up being a roller coaster read.
