I think I loved this even more than Love In The Friend Zone! Zoey and Gordon have been competing against each other for everything for as long as they can both remember, and everything comes to a head the day of high school graduation. They connect at the Grad Night party, Gordon looking to apologize, and Zoey intent on getting revenge. What follows is an awesome night of them getting to know each other better and realizing that the rival they thought they knew has lots more beneath the surface. This book kept me very interested the whole way through, because there are multiple circumstances you want to see get resolved. I found it to have a very satisfying ending, and I am looking forward to the next book.
Teens may really enjoy this quick romance but it was hard for this reader buy the whole "24 hours can change two people, who've known each other forever, into bitter enemies then love interests, then enemies then love interests again" plot.
Love Between Enemies (Grad Night #2)

Book Review: ♥ ♥ ♥ ❣
Two rivals. Both ambitious and have similar goals.
Gordon Meyers studies hard and tries his best to be top of his class.
Zoey Handler is his biggest rival. They both want to be the best, but their motives differ.
Gordon lives with his dad. They own a store and are struggling to make ends meet. A full-ride scholarship to cover his education would take the pressure off.
Zoey is a rich girl and her dad wants to give her everything. He wants her to follow in his footsteps and learn the family business. Zoey wants to earn what she achieves and stand on her own feet. She earns the scholarship to Stanford.
Gordon can't believe the girl who has everything has won the scholarship. He can't help but take his revenge, but then feels guilty.
Will rivals always be rivals? Or could there be more to their relationship? A step too far may just push them both over the edge.
3.5 stars out of 5. Gordon is a sweet leading male character. He has always had a thing for Zoey he just doesn't realise it.

Noteworthy experiences while reading this book: This book had a very interesting overlap with book one.

Notes and Opinions: This one was fairly slow I felt very disconnected from the characters and well I just didn't connect with any of them. Parts of the story were cute but for the most part I could have taken or left this one. As for the romance, I really loved the enemies to lovers. Its a story that I always love to read! This one for me had its faults but I do think some will love this one. For me it was just to slow.
Go Into This One Knowing: Slow
Enemies to lovers are some of my favorite troupes and Molly E Lee nailed it I feel. It was fun and quirky but also reflective as well as to why these two did what they did to each other. I love how these two characters evolve through the story as well. With the overlapping from the previous book, you do get to see what happens with them as well. Overall, I really enjoyed this quick witted book with a lot of angst and banter!
I received this book from Net galley in exchange for an honest review. I thought this book was super cheesy and predictable. I liked the Zoey and Gordon and I just thought the story line wasn't very realistic. Most people do not fall in love in one night. I really appreciated all of Zoey's efforts in the end.
Sweet romantic YA read about Zoey and Gordon who have been in competition with each other most of their lives. When it gets to be the day of graduation and Gordon's life starts to fall to pieces, Zoey is on the recieving end of his anger and frustration. What follows is Zoey trying to get him back and Gordon realizing that maybe it wasn't fair to put his anger on the girl he may have feelings for. Taking place the same time and place as the first Grad Night book, this was a fun read and I did enjoy the story. There were times Zoey was a bit much for my liking, but I was happy with how it all came together. Looking forward to the next one! Thank you netgalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The second book in the Grad Night series, I loved how this one overlapped the first book and kept that feel - like you're in the middle of an old school teenage romcom with all the expected mishaps, laughs, zany antics, and swoons.
Unfortunately, it took me a long time to warm up to this book. I think part of the problem is that enemies-to-lovers is a very tricky trope for me and is the trope I most consistently fail to connect with. I spent a good portion of the beginning of this book annoyed with both main characters and waiting for the other shoe to drop. Because of that, I wasn't really able to enjoy the romance as it blossomed and I wasn't always patient with the flow of the book. I think a huge portion of this is chalked up to my own reader hang-ups and not so much about the writing of the book.
That said, I did appreciate that the angst was kept to a minimum and didn't go into the hateful territory I was afraid it was going to drift into. I felt like both Gordon and Zoey were redeemed in the end, and the ending - while quick and a little "neat" - was adorable and wholly appropriate for this age range and this plot set-up.
In the end, it wasn't a perfect reading experience for me, but I'm glad I read it. I am enjoying this series and can't wait to see what's in store for us next.
I love a good enemy/rivalry read. Love Between Enemies is amazing and just that.. Seriously this one will squeeze the heart and makes it clear that there is a fine line between love and war. Zoey and Gordon have been competing against each other all through grade school and high school. As true to any high school based story drama will occur and boy does it. You don't know who you want to side with or feel sorry for more. You see a chance for the hatchet to be buried and yet the war still ranging on at times too. I love the chemistry between Zoey and Gordon. They are so alike yet so perfect. True feelings finally come to light and just wow. There is such a thing as taking revenge too far and yet it does take a bigger person to admit the wrong. But not only to admit the wrong but to also make things right all around.
If you've read Love in the Friend Zone then you know how grad night is getting on. I love how Molly is retelling it in snippets with each couple. She really makes you feel like you are there at the party following each and every group watching everything unfold. I'm having trouble deciding if I love Fynn and Braylen or Zoey and Gordon more. Grad Night series is amazing and you can't go wrong with this YA read. I'm so looking forward to Lennon and Jade's story next.
Ah…enemies to lovers. it’s a trope that I can’t ever resist and ‘Love between Enemies’—as formulaic as this trope is—delivered that rivalry in a high-school setting. Throw in a badly mis-timed speech done out of hurt and overreaction and a rather mischievous plot for revenge that has bigger repercussions than initially thought about, and something entirely different and unexpected comes out as the end product.
Molly E. Lee captures the teenage mindset rather well, as Gordon and Zoey battle it out, humiliate each other (whether intentional or not), then realise that they’re better together than against each other during the grad night party where they realise that beyond the rivalry is a chemistry they can’t deny.
There were scenes that made me wonder how much of the rich-girl, entitled bitch Zoey was going to be, which in contrast, made Gordon seem almost like the perfect, articulate, mature 18-year-old that I don’t see too often in fiction. Nonetheless, I definitely appreciated how Lee didn’t go overboard (not too much at least) with the drama that some YA/NA books tend to revolve around. All’s well that ends well in a HFN ending, albeit somewhat sweetly but abruptly, considering that the whole shift from shift from rivalry to something else took place over a mere 2-ish days. But for characters on their way to college, with their lives ahead of them, it’s probably the best we can ask for.
Absolutely not. When someone uses their words to hurt your feelings the appropriate response is not to ruin the other persons life. As a parent I wouldn't be as understanding as either set of parents in this book. And as a parent I would never let my kids read this book.
