I absolutely LOVED this book!!! Husbands and Other Sharp Objects stars Marcy Hammer - a betrayed wife that is separated from her husband and is trying to move on with her life. I fell in love with Marcy! She has a tremendous sense of humor and a lot of snark - okay, most of it is only in her head - but it made me snort several times. I appreciated the strong friendships that Marcy cultivated throughout the book; her new relationship was the shot in the arm that she needed and although the "children" finally acted like grown ups by the end of the story - I wanted to THROTTLE Amanda (who appeared to be a spoiled little princess used to getting her way). Great quick read - would def recommend <3 I received this ARC from Netgalley -- can't wait to send a copy to mom, she will so appreciate the humor :)

A funny story about Marcy Hammer, who is recently separated from her cheating husband, Harvey. They find out their daughter, Amanda, is getting married so they try to get along for the sake of the their daughter.

Marcy debates whether to sell their family home and move on with her life. She has found a special man to spend time with but introducing him to her family is difficult. It is delightful to follow Marcy through this confusing time in her life.

Amanda, the soon to be bride, pulls some selfish tricks to get the wedding she wants but her father (who is footing the bill) pulls some tricks of his own. Harvey hopes that the planning of the impending wedding will hope steer Marcy back to him as he has realized the errors of his ways.

A delightful read that had me laughing and left me curious to find out what's next in the Hammer families lives.

This is just the laugh out loud story I needed this week! A quick and light-hearted read that will leave you reading “just one more chapter” each and every time. Don’t get me wrong, there is still a storyline and engaging characters that draw you in - they are just SO relatable it seems like sharing a glass of wine with a friend. Or maybe it is just that I am parenting an Eye-rolling Queen of my own...? I would recommend this to be packed along for every spring break beach trip! I received an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.

Husbands and Other Sharp Objects continues the story of Marcy, from Lift and Separate, the author's first novel, while she navigates planning her daughter's wedding in the midst of her own divorce. Her daughter, Amanda, is quite the Bridezilla, so she has to lean on her good friends, Candy & Dana and new beau, Jon. And Harvey is back to stir up some drama.

Having not yet read the first book, I did not feel lost without the back story and thoroughly enjoyed this one. I haven't laughed out loud at a book in so long! I loved her mom's voice in her head reacting to her conversations and actions. I have that voice, too, but it belongs to my grandmother. And actually, I think her mom's words ring true with some great advice. This story was real, but light hearted and funny. I have respect for Marcy and the way she handled herself with her divorce issues, wedding issues and boyfriend issues. She never settled and always stood up for herself and what she thinks is right.

I'm going to recommend this to all my girlfriends my age that are dealing with children in college and getting married. It's so nice to see you aren't alone in experiencing the drama in these situations and to find the humor in them. But really, I just want to sit down with Marcy, Candy and Dana for a cup of coffee and some girl talk.

HUSBANDS AND OTHER SHARP OBJECTS by Marilyn Simon Rothstein continues the story of Marcy Hammer. If you haven't read Lift and Separate first, you really should. This book picks up right at the end of that one and you laugh a little harder and sympathize a little more being so familiar with Marcy and her kids and Harvey. We also get to know Dana and Candy more in this novel. Rothstein does a great job of writing female friendships and understanding the struggle that mothers with adult children go through. The wedding scenes with all the siblings made me laugh out loud, as did many passages in this book. The novel has a lot of wit and captures the uncertainty of Maggie's position well, like the first novel. I like the writing and the plot and the ending. The missing star is only for my personal feelings about her relationship with Jon throughout the book which was a little frustrating for me. That could be because I read these two books back to back!

I received an Advance Review Copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book is a sequel to the author's Lift and Separate which was a delight. Husbands and Other Sharp Objects did not disappoint. Marcy Hammer is a survivor and has made a new start for herself after her husband's infidelity. This book is laugh-out-loud funny but also touching and real. Highly recommended.

What a fabulous way to spend a few days, lost in the pages of what turned out to be a fabulous and very funny reading experience. I adored Marcy. She was quick witted, sly and salty and she had me cheering her on the entire time. She will be a heroine I won’t soon forget, such was the powerful writing of this author.

I chuckle even as I’m writing this, because I just can’t help but remember the very quirky characters that peopled the pages, and some of the dilemmas that Marcy gets herself into are just so funny. And yet even with the humor, you feel her pain and the difficult position she’s been put in. My heart hurt for her and yet she dealt with her situation with humor yes, but also with a grace and forgiveness that was so lovely to watch. If I sound like I’m writing about a real person, it’s simply because the author made her so real to me.

I highly recommend this book to lovers of women’s fiction and family drama, who enjoy a beautifully written and very funny heroine. She’s one I will be cheering for and thinking of for a very long time.

I received an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

What a fun book to read. It's the continuation of Marcy's story from Lift and Separate and could be read as a stand alone but knowing her total story makes this book even better.

Marcy and her cheating husband, Harvey, have split but now he wants to get back together. Her boyfriend Jon has become very special to her but now he wants more of a commitment. Add together three grown children, a wedding and a bridezilla and you have a story that's both humorous and touching as Marcy tries to keep everyone in her life happy. Going through a divorce and planning her daughter's wedding at the same time is making Marcy crazy and she is surrounded by some very strange family members - thank goodness for her two good friends that are helping her maintain her sanity. Plus the voice of her deceased mother keeps running through her head telling her how she should act.

This is a hilarious look at at 50ish year old woman trying to find herself again and decide how she wants to live her life in the future. I highly recommend it.

Thanks to netgalley for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.

I don't know why I couldn't find the book funnier or relate to any of its characters. There's no real drama in this book: minor (car) accidents, petty theft, an insensitive bridzilla, but there's no humour either. At least, I failed to see it. Marcy's ruminations to move or not move out of her old house, to file or not file for divorce, to go or not go to Japan to her lover, are anything but funny or dramatic or maybe that's the author's intention, to let you choose between the full half or the empty half of the glass....

Highly entertaining and humorous, and so much more, I read this book in a days time because I didn’t want to stop reading, It was lighthearted and fun to watch the storyline unfold. A marriage torn apart, a mother learning to stand up for herself and feel free to live her own life, siblings who argued, a bridezilla, all rolled up into a great book!!

While this book wasn't as engrossing or as funny as I had thought it would be, it was entertaining and held my attention. I really enjoy reading familial drama books-who doesn't love a little dysfunction!??! I didn't really connect with the majority of the characters, but it wasn't so much of a disconnect that I lost interest. This is definitely for those looking for a fun, easy, quick weekend read.

I was intrigued by the cover of this book and I knew it was one I had to read; I was not disappointed. This was such a fun and delightful read. Marcy Hammer is fabulous and absolutely hilarious. I could so be friends with her! I loved hearing what she thought in contrast to what she actually said. Her personality and her sardonic humor shine.

This book revolves around a family that puts the “f” in dysfunction.

Marcy Hammer is juggling a lot of balls in the air. She and Harvey, the “bra king” separated after he impregnates a woman half his age. Their daughter Amanda soon to be a holy terror bridezilla blames her mother rather than her philandering father for the family split. Ben, their level-headed son tries to help keep the peace. While Elisabeth, their doctor daughter tries to pacify her sister and maintain her sanity as the wedding planning and her sister’s demands escalate.

Marcy’s boyfriend, Jon wants to be brought into the family fold while most of her family is resistant. Marcy’s two best friends Candy and Dana provide wine, moral support and of course, Marcy the good friend always reciprocates. And whenever things get stressful or nostalgic, she conjures the voice of her deceased Jewish mother who always had the perfect quip for any situation. Her mother recently had enough material to work with.

I received an advance review copy of this book from Great Thoughts Ninjas. All opinions are my own.

I cannot say enough about this author! I couldn't wait to read this book after reading the previous one called "Lift and Separate." The story continues in her current novel "Husbands and Other Sharp Objects." Loved this book right from the get go. The humor, drama, and everyday life happenings all rolled into one. I feel as if I know these characters on a personal level. I can't wait to see what's next. This is a must read. Highly recommend!

I enjoyed the voice of the narrator. She was funny and reminded me of my mom with her Jewish humor. But the other characters in the book, especially her daughters, were so annoying. The non stop fighting made me want to skip ahead at points.

A laugh out loud funny, witty read that gives true insight into what it means to be a family - even if it's a dysfunctional one!

Marcy Hammer, is newly separated from her husband, Harvey, of 20 plus years. Harvey realizes his mistake and wants forgiveness; Marcy believes Harvey "is so damn nuts, he shouldn't be allowed within ten feet of a child with an allergy!"

In the book Marcy tries to find her way in the new world of singledom with the aid of her trusty sidekicks - her friends, Candy and Dana. Oh, and did I mention Marcy isn't technically single, thanks to her new arm-candy, Jon. As the book progresses, Marcy realizes quickly through the adventure of finding herself and the chaos of her daughter's upcoming wedding that, "the grass is not always greener. In fact, sometimes it's brown."

A light, hilarious tale that gets 5 stars from this gal!❤️

DNF

Couldn't do it. The main character was so judgmental and irritating and the writing was terrible.

HUSBANDS AND OTHER SHARP OBJECTS tells the story of Marcy Hammer - a middle-aged Jewish mother from Connecticut - and how she manages to cope with life's curve balls.

Marcy already had a lot to deal with BEFORE her oldest daughter announced the sudden and unexpected engagement to a man she'd only met once. And, now? She can barely keep it together on the Hot Mess Express. Hilarity ensues.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Marcy is such a fun and lovable character. And, she's funny. Like really, really, really funny. My only complaint is that it took a while for me to become invested in the story. In the first few chapters, the author jumps from one scene to the next and each scene had different characters. It took me a few chapters to adapt to the author's style of writing, but I had a blast reading it once I did.

HUSBANDS AND OTHER SHARP OBJECTS is a laugh-out-loud story about a mother who earnestly wants to make her kids happy AND live the life that she chooses to live.

*A big thanks to both Netgalley and the publisher for granting me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.

My Review of “Husbands and Other Sharp Objects” by Marilyn Simon Rothstein

OMG!! WOW!! Kudos to Marilyn Simon Rothstein , Author of “Husbands and Other Sharp Objects” for such a witty, humorous, heartwarming, entertaining and wonderful story. I had my inhaler on hand, since I have found that Marilyn Simon Rothstein in my humble opinion is the “Queen of Humor” I laughed so much that I cried, and did have to use my inhaler. “Husbands and Other Sharp Objects” is the book that follows “Lift and Separate”, also by Marilyn Simon Rothstein. This can be read as a stand alone, but both books are just so enjoyable. The Genres for this book are Fiction, Women’s Fiction and Humor.

Marilyn Simon Rothstein describes her colorful cast of characters as complex, complicated, quirky, dysfunctional, and mostly likable. There are some character that are a few cards short of a deck, and that makes this story more delicious. I love the way Marilyn weaves the storyline and the characters together.

The question is to commit or not commit. Marcy Hammer is now separated from her husband Harvey, the head of a global brassiere company. Harvey is now expanding into men’s briefs, and business looks really good. Harvey is really apologetic and sorry for his past mistakes, and wants Marcy back. Marcy is content in a new job, and even has a boyfriend that really makes her happy. Jon, would like more of a commitment, but Marcy is not divorced yet. Marcy has some wonderful friends that offer emotional support.

So everything is going well in Marcy’s life? What more could you ask for? It seems Marcy’s youngest daughter Amanda is getting engaged to Harvey’s attorney. Amanda’s future mother in law has some annoying issues. Suddenly Amanda has turned into “Bridezilla” and the wedding planning and choices are getting stranger. This event looks like it will be “The Wedding from Hell”, if Amanda’s older sister and brother are still speaking to her.

I appreciate that the author discusses the importance of family, friendship, friends, loyalty, love and hope. I would highly recommend this charming, delightful, humorous novel for those readers that enjoy Women’s Fiction and Humor. I received an Advanced Reading Copy of this novel from NetGalley for my honest review.
