This is the 2nd of Romantic Suspense series featuring various law enforcement officers.
Detective Pete Crane is investigating a shooting. One of the witnesses to the shooting is the Chief of Police's assistant, Nikki Harper. Along with her grandmother, also a witness, he wants to put them under protective security. He never knew just how combative she could be!
Nikki has a history that causes her to absolutely hate being a victim. It doesn't help that she's been attracted to the detective for 2 years. But because her grandmother is also at risk, she has no choice but to give in and try to help Pete solve his case.
Sparks fly and neither one of them seem happy. He thinks she's prickly and she views him as being macho man issuing orders. But Pete isn't only thinking of his job when he's around Nikki.
I found this one to be more suspenseful with lots of action than the first book in the series. Since there are different characters, there are no cliff hangers. I liked the characters and how they related to each other. The chemistry between them is hotter than an Arizona desert.
Many thanks to the author / CrushStar Multimedia LLC / Paper Dragon Publishing / Netgalley for the digital copy of this steamy Romantic Suspense.
Second in this series and just as great as the first! Lots of action and a quick read! Loved !
Chance Collision is a great book. The plot and characters are well crafted. I look forward to reading more books in this series. I highly recommend this mystery.
This is the second book in this series, and even though I had not read the first book I was not lost, the author bring you up to date so that you know what is going on. We have a lot of action and suspense and if I was Nikki I would have knocked Pete out since he was like a ping pong ball, back and forth, back and forth, dude make a decision and stick by it. And Nikki, if you felt like he was going to dump you, take a step back and stop jumping in bed with him until you know he wants you..Anyhoo, it kept my interest enough, so onto the next book. Enjoy!
I received an arc from Netgalley. I have been enjoying this series and while I liked this book I was a little disappointed with one of the main characters, Nikki. She seemed a little bit immature at times especially in parts of her interaction with Pete.
Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the action part of the story and the heat just not some scenes with Nikki. I will definitely keep reading the series. Just can’t give my normal rating on this one. 3.5 stars
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
While this is book 2 in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. Since I had not read book 1, I understood easily the characters and the background situation. I enjoyed that there was so much action and intrigue along with the romance.
The chemistry between Pete and Nikki was so very hot, but I can see hot Nikki was frustrated with Pete being so hot then cold over and over again! The only thing that bothered me was Nikki felt that Pete was going to end things and yet she kept sleeping with Pete.
There was never an explanation for why the crime boss thought his retired employee, Berto, had turned on him which resulted in the killing spree. Since book 3 is coming out soon, I hope we get an answer there.
I loved the intervention that Andi and Cole gave Pete and using his words of wisdom back at him! There was such a depth of emotion as they both struggled to deal with their feelings as they were apart, it was just so sad.
I am looking forward to book 3 - Lee and Nate sound like an interesting story!
Awesome!
Super sweet and action packed love story with lots of heart wrenching emotion.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
This book starts when Andi from book 1 is on leave for having her baby, leaving partner Pete Crane to protect Nikki (the Chief's assistant) when she is witness to a crime and in danger. Nikki has been in love with Pete for a long time. Is this her chance to win the handsome cop?
I read the first book in the series and I quite like them. They are a bit formulaic and predictable, but the characters are very likeable.
Wish I could rate half stars, as I would give it 3,5 stars.
I requested and received an ARC via Netgalley and this is my honest review.
While this book was better than the first, I still struggled to connect.
Pete Crane is a detective with the local PD. His partner, Andi, is on maternity leave, so he’s currently flying solo. He is single and has no plans to change that. He was burned by a previous girlfriend, many years ago and has vowed to never let it happen again. He doesn’t date anyone he works with so nothing becomes awkward when he moves on.
Nikki Harper’s parents were killed when she was very young and her grandma has raised her. The two are extremely close. She is the administrative secretary to the Chief of Police. She has been attracted to Pete since she started her job two years ago.
When Nikki and her grandmother witness a murder, Pete is assigned to protect Nikki. Close quarters fan the flame but Pete is stuck on the fact he’s 10 years older than her, with more life experience and she works at the PD. Not to mention she works for his boss, who is very protective of her.
Pete’s incessant need to push Nikki away, for ridiculous reasons, grated for most of the book. To the point I started skimming his whining while rolling my eyes. I liked Pete in the first book, but not in this one.
There is a continuing search to find a criminal from the previous book but it can be read alone. Especially since the author repeatedly identifies who people are; Cole, his partner’s husband, Andi, his partner, Ethan, his partner’s son, Lee, Cole’s former FBI partner, etc., over and over, as well as who the criminals are and where they fall in the hierarchy.
I gave this series and author a second chance and it failed for me. When you keep looking to see if it’s almost the end, it’s time to move on. I won’t be looking for the next in series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher.
3 1\2 stars out of 5
Chance Collision can be read as a strand alone novel because the author C.A. Szarek is able to bring readers up to date though out the book.
The story is a romance from beginning to end with a little mystery so the characters have something to do in-between lusting after each other.
The characters from book one are in book two and C.A. Szarek adds a few new ones in that will have their own stories fro the way the series is set up.
The end felt a little forced and predictable. If readers enjoyed the Collision Force than they will enjoy Chance Collision.

What a great suspense romance! This is my first book by C. A. Szarek but will not be my last. I wish I would have read the first book in this series. The author does a great job of developing the characters. You want to read more about them. Pete and Nikki chemistry is sizzling hot. The only thing I didn't like about Nikki was that she cried too much. Eventhough this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. I can't wait to read about Lee and Nate. I would recommend this book.
I enjoyed book 1 of this series, and I have to say , that I found this one even better.
In Antioch, TX the police department has been exposed to criminals from NYC.
This time, it will directly affect Nikki, the chief of police administrative assistant, and Detective Pete, whom we met in book 1. They met 2 years ago and an attraction was there , but not openly acknowledged.
When Nikki and her grandmother witness a violent crime, Pete is determined to keep her safe. A relationship begins but Pete considers himself too old for her, and she wonders if it will end when the case closes.
It’s a story filled with suspense, criminals, family moments, and romance. Never a dull moment . Will the crime be solved and will Nikki and Pete find their HEA?
The plot and the characters were well developed. Looking forward to more books in this series.
I was gifted this copy by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
