Absolutely breathtaking thriller that I read in one exhilarating feast. The writing is tense and well paced and I really enjoyed the twists and turns. Highly recommend!
A gripping book that starts with Rosie's shocking death, keeping you fully immersed with red herrings that keep you guessing until the final page. An easy, one-sitting read that leaves you dizzy by the end!
What an amazing thriller this had so many twists and turns I felt like I was on a rollercoaster and I love a good plot twist fantastic keeps you guessing roo the very end
Sometimes people aren't happy with what they have, and they see another person and think that's the life I want, well this is what happens with Emily when she comes across Rose. Now she wants Roses' life and will stop at nothing to take it from her, except maybe what Rose actually has isn't what Emily believes it to be. This was definitely a twisty thriller.
A gripping psychological thriller.
Really enjoyed this books and looking forward to reading more from this author
A gripping psychological thriller that definitely had me pulled in. I really enjoyed this read and would love to read it for the first time again
Her Name Was Rose is Claire Allan's first thriller after writing women's fiction, and even though it took a bit for me to get into it, it ended up really popping! At 336 pages this isn't a very long book, and it is a pretty quick read, especially on audio. Emily is the story's main focus but there are also past chapters from Rose, and we slowly get to know both characters. I can't actually say I really liked anyone in this story, but I didn't mind that, and I thought they were all very well drawn out and characterized. There are a handful of TWs as this goes into some darker subject matters, so I would recommend checking out StoryGraph before reading. That being said, Allan doesn't go into a ton of detail, so it should remain palatable for most readers.
I think the audiobook would have benefited from a narrator for both Emily and Rose, but Melanie MacHugh still did a really nice job and was both easy to understand and pleasant to listen to. Despite the one-woman show on the audio, I would definitely recommend it and I think most listeners will find it quite enjoyable. Unlike some readers, I didn't find the end to be predictable and I honestly had no idea what the climax would have in store. There are a handful of twists and turns, but they were pretty believable and not so out of left field that it doesn't make sense. I got pulled into Allan's writing style, and after finishing Her Name Was Rose, I would certainly read more from this author!
Several times I picked this book up and read a few chapters and then put it down. this time though I made myself keep with it. Conclusion - It did not hold my interest. The writing seemed stilted to me, and I could not make myself like Emily.
I could not get into this book, sorry. Trying to clean up my netgalley. Didn’t realize that I was forgetting to leave reviews on netgalley itself, My apologies.
Absolutely loved this book. Gripping. Engrossing. Beautiful cover. Ordered a physical copy to pass around my book club and it was lost in the mail. I am still devastated that it hasn't arrived.
Her Name Was Rose is predominantly about Emily. Emily witnessed a beautiful mother step into the road in a hit-and-run. When Emily later researches this mystery woman who died, which sounds really creepy, she is left in awe of her devoted husband, luxurious lifestyle and bubbly workplace, the absolute opposite of Emily’s and with survivors guilt, her lonely existence and loss of her job, she has her eyes firmly on the void left by Rose!
If, like me, you’re a lover of a good, page turning, edge of your seat psychological thriller, then not only is this an easy read, it is one which will have you hooked.
Great story, thrilling plot that I could not put down. Well worth a read, and would recommend to others.
Her Name Was Rose by Claire Allan had me gripped the whole way through. I didn't want to put it down! I loved how it really showed how nobody really knows how people can be 'behind closed doors'. Then you will love this book especially as it was full of great twists and turns throughout and, every one of them making the story even more intriguing.............
I highly recommend this book! Excellent read
Thank you to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest opinions
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book via net galley in exchange for an honest review.
The book held my interest from the start. It depicts the reality of abusive controlling relationships hidden by vulnerability and also charm and good looks, The book is full of suspense with unexpected twists and turns, I did not guess the perpetrator, nor the the motive. A great read.
Why didn’t I read this sooner!
Totally, absolutely totally hooked with this devious, twisted enthralling unraveling story.
The blurb makes no hidden secret that Rose leaves a gap in her life that someone else fills.
Rose husband is bringing up their child, a very odd character who I thought seemed creepy. But it transpired that there was another person to me who was hiding something but I couldn’t think what.
I was so engrossed with this.
Fabulous storytelling at its best to keep the readers attention.
Has this author written more books?
I’m going to check Claire Allan out as I loved this thriller so much!
My one regret.....I wish I had got to this sooner.
If you haven’t read it yet (like me) and you like a fast paced thriller, please pick this up.
Thanks Netgalley for the e-arc.
A gripping psych thriller that will have you hooked. There are a lot of similar books out there but this was still enticing and suspenseful. I did read it a while ago but forgot to review it so I don't remember much, just that it was gripping.
One of the best psychological thrillers I've read in the past year. Really gripping, I could not put it down. Highly recommended.
Her Name Was Rose was a fantastic thriller! Emily, the main character, feels slightly unreliable given her past with ex-boyfriend Ben, and Claire Allan carefully creates complex characters that leave you second-guessing.
I love the fact that Emily is flawed and seemingly weak in many ways because it makes her realistic. When she witnesses a hit and run and then attempts to take the place of the victim by taking her job and pursuing her husband, she seems almost pathetic. Yet, you can see signs that she is a good person overall, and thus I couldn't help but root for her.
Overall, I loved this book!
This was one of those books I started several times and was just not able to get into it. I really loved the description of the book but it just was not for me.
Oh my goodness what an absolutely brilliant book . This book got me right from the first page and I was hooked. A super story that will grip you from the off.
