The GhostWalkers! A group that gets my heart beating every time. I have been a fan of this series from the beginning. And while there have been some that I have liked more or less than others they never disappoint.

The thing about this series is the guys. There is something special about each of them and I mean that literally. And Gino is no different. As with all of the other men in the series they are diamonds in the rough. They can kill with the slightest of moves and yet when the right woman comes along their hearts melt. Ok well maybe melt is a strong word but you know what I mean.

Gino has had a terrible past. Zara was created with a specialness that even GhostWalkers may question. But they are perfect for each other. And as also Whitney is devious and as mad as they come. He is set to get and keep Zara for all the plans he set in to motion.

Feehan is one of the best and this is just another shining star in the series. Can’t wait for the next!

Christine Feehan is so tried and true for me.

Whenever I’m in a slump, I know I can pick up a story by Feehan and get exactly what’s advertised! haha~ However, I’ve been reading her since 2004. *insert shock*
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Berkley. <3

In this case, Covert Game is the next in the Ghostwalkers series and follows the story of Zara Hightower. (Who is friends with Bellisia from the previous book). Zara is not like the other women in previous stories, she’s more reserved and actually comes off as slightly defeated by life.

However, that may have to do with the fact that in the first 3 chapters she’s tortured harshly by a Chinese Operative. So, WARNING – if you are triggered by violence, abuse, or torture – please skip this book as it deals with government missions and imprisonment.

“Listen to it… The swamp has its own Sound. Its own rhythm.”
― Christine Feehan, Covert Game

If you’re new to the GhostWalker series, this is about enhanced humans. Those that have been modified in various ways to perform missions for the government. Zara is no exception and certainly the hero Gino isn’t either.

Both of them are different from other heroes and heroines mentioned in the previous books. Gino is a little dark. He comes off as colder, more willing to go the extra mile for his ends to be met. Also, he’s a dominant male. Why yes, this is a romance book. hahaha

Zara is not a great operative. She doesn’t handle pain well, she’s not eagerly waiting to fight. In fact, she’d rather not. I’m pretty sure she’d love to be reading a book somewhere remote with a computer to tinker her days away with.

And I enjoyed their story.

Good things come first~ I liked that we changed it up with Zara. I myself had trouble relating to her but I know people like her. People that would prefer to take to the sidelines and have a different type of life.

Christine Feehan did a great job on the writing. The intensity of the torture scene tore me up and immediately put me in the plot. She did slightly do an ‘instal-love’ story line but insinuated there’s a chemical at play for possibly matching them up. Folks…. this is a romance read, I’m not expecting a long lengthy development. hahah

Now for the bad things~ Gino was a little much for me. He was, but it didn’t deter me from the story in the long run. I enjoy the intricacies of the plot WITH the romance involved. If it had just been the Gino and Zara show, I think I would have been off put.

Overall, if you like paranormal romance you can’t go wrong with Covert Game. Even if you’ve never read a GhostWalkers series book, you can pick this book up and not be totally lost.

Overall Rating: 4 Stars
Plot: 5 Stars
Character Development: 4 Stars
Dialogue: 3 Stars
Writing: 4 Stars
This book was released March 20th, 2018 ~ Go grab a copy! If you’re new, this also means you have time to catch up fully before the next is released. Either way, give it a go. I use books like these to keep me reading. The writing is wonderful and the plots are intriguing. <3

Happy Reading~

I really enjoyed this story over all though I did have a few issues. The women are getting more and more helpless and there was a lot of repetitiveness when it came to Gino. Feehan kept repeating the same emotion several times and going into the same details of that emotion throughout the book. Overall I enjoyed the story but some parts started to fall flat for me.

COVERT GAMES is another exciting addition to author Christine Feehan's GhostWalker series. She is taking us back to the bayou where we meet up again with some of my favorite people. The emotion is very intense in this offering due to the torture Zara endures and her fears of her torturer coming for her as he promised and the thrill of having found her very own hero.

COVERT GAME will give you a taste of the bayou, action, intrigue, some very steamy yet sweet romance, with a hint of what these men and women are fighting against, all a reader has come to expect in Christine Feehan's books.

The Ghostwalkers are challenged once again, are they up to the demand for safely procuring another Ghostwalker caught in China territory. Zara, one of Dr. Whitney's girls, is an artificial intelligence expert and it's up to the Ghostwalkers to save her from her sadistic captor. Will Gino and the men from the Louisiana swamp be able to save and protect Zara? Will Gino with a tortured past find his attraction to Zara before he even meets her fall true to a good Feehan romance? The story in this novel is pretty intense so be forewarned and follow the love story of the latest Ghostwalker duo..

This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

four-stars
Rescuing an industrial spy from the hands of a criminal mastermind is a suicide mission for the GhostWalkers. And there's no one more up to the task than Gino Mazza. He's the perfect killing machine—a man driven by demons so dark and destructive that his blighted soul has given up trying to find solace. But his laser-sharp focus on his target has transformed into something nearing desire.

A treasonous senator dangled top secret GhostWalker data in front of a Chinese crime lord, and he bit. Zara Hightower, one of the world's leading experts on artificial intelligence, was sent in to psychically wipe the crime lord's computer network. She succeeded, but at a huge cost. Now she's the captive of a man who has descended into paranoid madness. Torture and death await her...

But GhostWalkers never leave one of their own in enemy territory. And it's up to Gino to save Zara, or kill her if it turns out she's led them into a trap. Either way, heaven or hell won't stop him...

I can’t quite put my finger on when it happened, but Christine Feehan’s writing has changed. And I’m loving it. She has always had her Carpathian series, which was darker than her other series, but that’s just not the case anymore. The GhostWalkers started to get darker a couple years ago. Now they’re completely in dark territory. Even her Sisters of the Heart series was pretty dark. Torpedo Ink? Yes. I am really loving this dark turn she has taken, but I wonder if it’s permanent.

Zara Hightower is actuallly the world’s leading expert in A.I. She can also do really cool stuff like wipe hard drives and networks clean psychically. A U.S. Senator and a GhostWalker like Zara gave top secret information about GhostWalkers to a Chinese crime lord that Zara has been sent in to destroy. She has also been sent in to steal other secrets he may have by downloading them directly to a SSD that is embedded in her brain. All courtesy of Dr. Peter Whitney of course. That bugger. Honestly, as each book goes on I wonder how this guy hasn’t died yet. I actually have to think back and remember each time a new book comes out. Anyhow, Zara is now in enemy territory and she knows no one will be able to prove that she is the one that wiped Cheng’s network clean. She knows that even if she’s caught and tortured, they still won’t be able to prove her involvement. What she didn’t factor into all her equations for escaping was Cheng’s enforcer, Bolan Zhu. The man showed in interest in her the first time he met her and that interest didn’t go away, even when he was torturing the bejesus out of Zara.

Gino Mazza is a special sort of man who wants a special sort of woman. He admires all the women that his teammates have ended up with. They are all warriors, just like their men. He has the utmost respect for them and would go shoulder to shoulder into battle with any of them. That doesn’t mean that he wants his woman to be a warrior herself. He wants a woman that can take care of herself, but doesn’t have to fight because Gino is there to do it for her. It sounds archaic to Gino, but he knows that he can accept nothing less than that. He watched his whole family be slaughtered during a kidnapping attempt when he was a child. He is not going to let that happen to his wife. When his team is tasked with rescuing Zara, he finds himself staring at her picture wondering if she couldn’t be the woman he has been looking for.

When the GhostWalkers get Zara out of China, Gino is the one that Zara clings to. It’s his strength of character that convinces her that he can keep her safe from Bolan Zhu. After being tortured at his hands and promised even worse if she ever tried to escape him, Zara knows he will be coming after her. Only a person like Gino can keep Zara safe. She can see something in him, though she can’t put her finger on it. Gino knows what she sees. He’s tortured people just as Zhu tortured her. If anyone can protect her, it’s him. Still, protecting her is not all he wants to do. He can see that she’s exactly the type of woman he wants and needs. She’s smart and resourceful, can definitely fight with the best of them, but she is happier not fighting. She accepts his personality, which even he knows can be hard to live with.

Basically what we have here is a D/s relationship at the most basic level. Feehan has been writing more of those lately and I wonder where she is heading. I did not like Bellisia in this book at all. She rubbed me wrong the entire book. Her relationship with Zeke was nothing like Gino and Zara’s so she decided it was wrong. I thought it was incredibly shortsighted and just plain bitchy. Not to mention it hurt Zara tremendously because she felt that she had to choose between her sister and the man she loves. I wanted to strangle her.

Now I want to know who the next GhostWalker book will be about, but that I have a feeling that information won’t be forthcoming for some time. I really enjoyed this one.

Zara Hightower is the world's renowned expert on Artificial Intelligence but unbeknownst to the various governments she provides her expertise to she's also an expert thief of computer secrets. When in China visiting the research facility of one of the premier computer research and development group she comes to the end of a successful run. As the Chinese torture her for her secrets a ghost walker team is dispatched to rescue her.
Some of the extreme torture and deviant sexual practices add a darkness to the story and might be offensive to some readers but if you can bypass these the story will get your adrenaline pumping and keep you involved in the action adventure.Gino Mazza is felled by the innocent badly brutalized woman he rescues with his team. As they race across the city to the safety of the American Consulate he is focused on keeping her safe not just from the Chinese but also from his own government. He brings her to his team's compound in the middle of the Louisiana swamp determined to keep her safe from all who might want to harm her.
Once in the swamp we get a chance to catch up with Nonna and the other women who have married members of the team as well as the lethal triplets. Zara has a tremendous command over her mind which allowed her to withstand the extreme torture she's been subjected to but at the same time she's deeply submissive and looks for Gino for direction and decisions in all other aspects of her life. She is also not an expert with weapons or martial arts and looks to the other women in the group for protection.
What is Zara's secret that continues to keep Whitney sending Ghost Walker teams to retrieve her? The secrets that are revealed and the science of the data cache are fascinating. Between the insatiable sex and the constant attacks, readers are kept on a nice edge of suspense. The team is under attack not only from other Ghost walkers but also the Chinese businessmen who hoped to detail Zara and learn her secrets. In an interesting finale the ghost walker team attacks the diabolical sex club that is owned by Cheng and Zhu the two villains of this piece. The scenes and descriptions in the club are not pretty and might prove to be distasteful to some readers but it adds to the disgust and sense of justice when punishment is meted out to the bad guys.
I am fascinated with the author's imagination on the super powers of each new couple in this series and how they've been genetically matched to be a couple.

Ms. Feehan I salute thee for writing so prolifically and successfully! I think I read recently that this is her 75th novel? Well, Covert Game is the 14th novel in the Ghostwalker series and I’ve ready about five of them. The great thing about a series with a lot of novels is that you can usually read them as stand alone’s and catch up with the personalities pretty quickly and this novel fell into that category, so don’t let the number in the series scare you away.

Covert Game started off really quick with our heroine Zara Hightower in China getting ready to deliver a speech about artificial intelligence to a Fortune 500 foreign company. However, not everything is as it seems! Zara is a secret agent placed there to steal secrets from Cheng’s (said business owner) computers while simultaneously giving her AI speech. (You may ask how that can be? Let’s just say she’s got more in her head than her wit and common sense!) Of course things go wrong, Zara is held captive and tortured (pretty horrifically!) and our Ghostwalker team with hunky hero Gino Mazza come in to rescue her from captivity to the evil Bolan Zhu who wants her for his personal submissive.

Like I said, it got off to a really quick start! I liked Zara a lot. She was plucky, held out against telling secrets while being tortured and just an overall good person. These were my thoughts pre-Gino, anyways. Our hero Gino is introduced to us as a very conflicted guy. Orphaned and brought up by his uncle who is a Crime Lord, Gino is a Ghostwalker with his cousin Joe. Raised together, he always had his cousin’s back. Joe wasn’t in this novel too much, but my understanding is that although he is the leader of these Ghostwalker’s he’s a pretty likable guy. Gino, not so much. Other than when with his brothers in arms, Gino flies solo. Think dark, broody, silent type hero. When they receive their mission to save Zara, he becomes slightly obsessed. Once she is in his hands he doesn’t let go and she doesn’t want him to, becoming totally dependent upon him for her safety.

What happened to plucky heroine Zara? Well, she did get the sh*& kicked out of her, but she absolutely dissolved. I hated that for her. Gino wasn’t that bad a guy, he actually cared for her, but he really wanted her under his thumb and she allowed herself to be there. Now, before everyone goes crazy on me I will back down a bit. You can read a novel like this and take it two ways. One, there is someone for everyone. Gino had a rough life, so did Zara, and they seemed to need what the other person was capable of giving. Sounds pretty reasonable. I fell into the other column. To me, Zara was a victim that wanted a strong man to take care of her and Gino was that guy who wanted to keep his woman safe and dominated. I was so conflicted! I really don’t like love stories where the woman is a victim. Covert Game started off really good, but the middle was a muddled mess, and then the action amped back up and gave the story a purpose again. A mixed bag for me.

How do you rate a novel that was well written but just did not hit any of my hot buttons? It was a fantasy so I gave it some leeway, but please Ms. Feehan give women a role model in their heroine, not a doormat. For those of you who don’t have trouble reading victim love stories, you’ll love this one. Don’t let my opinion turn you away.

The GhostWalkers are back in another exhilarating book, one where I was completely thrilled to read. There was lots of action and adventure that got my blood pumping and intriguing suspense that had me biting my nails and the chemistry is off the charts electrifying.

Gino and Zara are strong, exciting characters that stir emotions and captivate readers with their story. The romance is sweet but oh so hot with Gino’s alpha protective personality and Zara’s tough but sweet vulnerable personality, so they are a bit opposite but it works fantastic for them as it sure generates some raging hot heat and keeps readers enthralled with the relationship as it grows.

Hair raising suspense builds from the very beginning as Zara finds herself in hot water and keeps right on building throughout the story which keeps readers on the edge with lots of thrills. Whitney is back of course with his usual tricks and total disregard for human life but the GhostWalkers have a new set of enemies that were introduced in Power Game and let me tell you I would to blow this bad guy to smithereens. There is lots of danger with explosive action throughout the book and also a disturbing torture scene involving Zara that adds to the emotional impact of this fast paced plot.

Christine Feehan is one my favorite authors and the GhostWalkers world is of my top favorites. It is paranormal but it is also a tough action series that really gets the adrenaline pumping and makes hearts pound with some uber hot and sexy heroes and heroines. Covert Game is definitely that and more and there was no way I could put it down until I had read every last exhilarating page, of course, my family was not very happy about this and kept trying to interrupt but Gino and Zara held my complete attention.

Paranormal meets romance and it is sexy and edgy…

I know, I know. It’s another story by one of my favourite authors and you probably think the fangirling is going to get mushy. I suspect you are right as this was another great read in this paranormal, action-packed series!

Zara is an expert in the field of artificial intelligence and loves nothing better than sharing her knowledge with the world. If she throws in a bit of corporate espionage that will better that world, then more is the better. When she finds herself in dangerous, no escape situation, she is grateful to her rescuers, especially Gino. Gratitude changes to more as Gino proves himself to be her everything…

“I’m not just a brain to you. I’m a person.”

If I make it sound like insta-love then I’m definitely giving the wrong impression. The build up of the story is slow and meticulous with stomach-churning tension guaranteed as enemies unleash their brutality. It is gritty and unrelenting, as the forces of good and evil never meet for a garden tea party. Gino and Zara bond during life-threatening situations and their aftermath, allowing time for each to uncover hidden depths and surprises along the way….

“He needed someone who would soothe him, quiet the dark demon when it began to emerge.”

“She wanted him to be real, a terrible demon, and she didn’t care if he was sent from heaven or hell.”

Zara is a strong heroine but Gino taps into wants and desires she never shows to anyone, hardly admitting them to herself… He makes Zara even prouder of her abilities, making her feel safer as she learns how trustworthy and capable he is…

“You going to give me everything like that, baby? Whenever I ask? Whatever I ask for?”

“Trust is a gift, Zara, and I won’t forget that you give it to me every day we’re together.”

I’ll be re-reading this story often – and soon!

4.25 stars--COVERT GAME is the fourteenth instalment in Christine Feehan’s contemporary adult GHOSTWALKERS paranormal, romantic suspense series focusing on an elite group of ‘genetically enhanced’ men and women known as the GhostWalkers. These ‘super soldiers’ were once part of an unauthorized government experiment performed by Dr. Peter Whitney-a man tantamount to evil incarnate. This is GhostWalker/hunter Gino ‘Phantom Wind’ Mazza, and industrial spy/GhostWalker Zara Hightower’s story line. COVERT GAME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion.

WARNING: COVERT GAME contains very descriptive scenes of graphic violence and torture that may not be suitable for all readers.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Zara and Gino) COVERT GAME follows the abduction, torture and eventual rescue of enhanced female Zara Hightower. Considered a genius in the world of AI (Artificial Intelligence), Zara was Dr. Whitney’s pawn; an industrial spy whose special abilities superseded what the evil doctor considered her glaring failures. Sent to ‘download’ a file about the GhostWalkers, from Chinese crime lord Mr. Cheng, Zara found herself trapped by a man, Bolan Zhu, whose reputation in specialized torture preceded our heroine’s visit to Shanghai. What ensues is the rescue and recovery of our Zara Hightower; the building relationship and romance between our leading couple; and the fall-out when several teams of Whitney’s enhanced soldiers, and Bolan Zhu, are sent to recapture our story line heroine.

Team Four never expected to honor one of Dr. Whitney’s requests but the rescue of Zara Hightower meant the rescue of one of their own. Prepared for anything, Gino Mazza suspected the rescue was a trap, but a trap that found our hero falling in love.

The relationship between Gino and Zara is one of immediate attraction but unlike the earlier GhostWalker story lines there is no proof that the attraction is chemically connected or fated by enhanced DNA. Gino is an alpha male; a dominant man who is quick to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love but a dominance that appears to be genetically matched to our heroine’s submissive personality. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Most of GhostWalker Team Four (and their significant others) play secondary and supporting characters: Diego Campo, Draden Freeman, Ezekiel Fortunes, Team leader Joe Spagnola, Malichai and Mordichai Fortunes, Trap Dawkins, Rubin Campo and Wyatt Fontenot, along with Wyatt’s Nonny Grace Fontenot.

COVERT GAME is a story of power, abuse, betrayal and revenge. As the series continues to develop the author has changed the original direction of the series in that the enhanced soldiers no longer need or require a ‘female’ to anchor their abilities (Team 1); and the most recent instalment does not confirm or deny the existence of genetically matched DNA between two unsuspecting GhostWalkers, both changes the author addresses in the current story line.

Most of the recent male GhostWalkers volunteered for the genetic enhancements such that to blame the doctor for many of their problems is not necessarily true but Dr. Whitney’s ongoing experiments with the female GhostWalkers, many of whom were abducted and tortured at an early age, is still quite prevalent throughout the series. As well, our heroine appears to have no psychic power, or the ability to communicate psychically with the man that she loves, something that wasn’t addressed in this particular story line.

I would also like to point out the author continues to justify Trap’s abusive behaviour in Spider Game (GhostWalker #12) as a by-product of Asperger’s Syndrome –a plot point that was never mentioned in Trap’s story line- Spider Game- but has been addressed in the last two instalments in an effort, I believe, to appease the many negative comments and reviews about Trap’s abusive and controlling behaviour. In this, there is also much talk between the heroines, throughout Covert Game, rationalizing and accepting their mates’ controlling behaviour-something I see as the author, once again, as trying to defend her male characters’ less than favourable characteristics. I do not have a problem with alpha males in my ‘fictional’ story lines but the increase in controlling and somewhat abusive behaviour is something the author is most likely trying to address and explain via her female leads.

COVERT GAME is a suspenseful and action packed story line. Gino will seek retribution for the woman he loves, retribution that is equal to the torture inflicted upon our story line heroine. The premise is startling, dramatic and intense; the characters are intelligent, complex and charismatic; the romance is intimate and emotional. COVERT GAME is an intriguing and fascinating look at the paranormal.

DNF @ 53%. I've been trying to finish this book for about two weeks now, and have decided to throw in the towel. While I typically enjoy Christine Feehan's work, the instalove/instalust was a little too much for me. I did like the heroine, Zara, and her relationship with Bellisia, the heroine of the previous book. But that wasn't enough to help me power through to the end.

If you're a big fan of Christine Feehan, the usual tropes abound, so you'll probably enjoy this one.

In Christine Feehan's latest installment in her Ghostwalkers Series, Zara Hightower and Gino Mazza fight the good fight. COVERT GAME brings back many of the team, including the gang in Louisiana, and uses that Ghostwalker family to take on some very bad guys.

Gino is intrigued by the woman they're sent to rescue from a criminal mobster. The intelligent woman has been spying on the rogue organization, and she's a ghostwalker. With their leave-no-man behind policy, the Ghostwalkers are on a mission to bring her home. But she begins to mean much more to Gino than doing the job.

As their chemistry heats up, they have to navigate their passion and their relationship to survive an obsessed enemy who will never stop pursuing Zara. It'll take courage and tenacity to defeat Zara's cruel captor. And someone might not come out alive...

Feehan is the master of romantic suspense, and her latest Ghostwalker novel promises the action, heart, and adventure that make her novels so much fun to read. Fans of her series won't be disappointed. Thrilling, sexy, and captivating--COVERT GAME is a winner.

The heroine has found herself in a dangerous situation being held by a ruthless man. She is one of Dr. Whitney's GhostWalkers and still works for him. She is highly intelligent, educated, an expert in the field of artificial intelligence and machines, and a corporate spy. She has some enhanced skills as well, but also some inherent weaknesses. And she has been conditioned to feel unworthy. She is in trouble and the team just cannot leave a GhostWalker in peril no matter what the circumstances.

The "hero" or perhaps her "Guardian Devil" has been trained all his life to be deadly. He has a coldness about him that he is not sure can be eradicated. He has more money that he knows what to do with, but despises what money does to people. He tends to fade into the background especially darkness and nature, and not draw attention.

He knows that if he ever finds a woman, he could not handle her being one like the other GhostWalker women that will fight beside the men. He needs something different...someone calming in order to soothe his demons and someone for him to be able to protect, take care of, and give her everything. She needs someone to make her feel worthy and needed...and someone she can trust to make her feel safe. On the surface they seem to be opposites, but they actually fit together quite well despite the fact that not everyone is happy about the idea of them being being together.

This mission will involve most of the team while taking on old and new enemies and trying to keep her, their group, and some important information safe. They are surrounded by multiple threats, danger, and several antagonists so there is plenty of action and violence. One of the villains literally made my skin crawl, and definitely earned enemies with his actions.

This brings back all of the new team, their significant others, and Nonny from their swamp fortress. It is easy for me to get caught back up in this GhostWalker world and exploring all of their special abilities. I am getting more and more attached to this newer group. My only complaint is that these books sometimes seem a bit long and repetitious at times, but I am still so attached to the characters and the stories that I cannot stop reading them. I am still interested in more with Joe, Malichi, Mordichai, and Draden especially. And I hope that we see one the Whitney's other "flowers", Shylah, make an appearance in a future story.

I was gifted a copy.

Covert Game is the most recent installment in the Ghostwalker's series and what a stunning book this turned out to be. I won't say that I have loved every single book in this series however I did enjoy this one more than I have the others for the most part with exception to the first 6 books of the series.

Our heroine, Zara Hightower, is one of the girls that has been kept a virtual prisoner to be experimented on. Zara, has incredible talents with computers and is a computer on her own. She is sent on a mission to steal secrets away from a Chinese Crime Lord, but while on the mission she is caught, interrogated and tortured with no hope of ever being rescued.

Gino is a Ghostwalker, capable and cold when he needs to be. When their team receives a request to rescue her and Gino will have two choices to make, if the woman proves to be innocent, he plans on protecting her and bringing her to their home in the bayou but if she proves to be an enemy....she will have to be killed.

So Gino and the rest of their team goes into the fortress to rescue one of their own, and the moment Gino sees her he knows she is his and he will do anything to protect her. As the healer of the team, he sees to her injuries and brings her back to the Bayou where she can be surrounded by women who are just like her including one of her closest friends ...Bellisia. But there are two groups of men that are hunting her, Will Gino and Zeke and the rest of the team be able to protect her...

What a joy this book was and I had such a blast. I loved the relationship between Gino and Zara and it felt more like one of the earlier books too which I found very refreshing. Our heroine isn't tough and ready to kill like her two other friends. She is more gentle and more focused on matters of the mind and could never do what she was ordered to do by Whitney. She knows that she should be scared of Gino, but all she feels is safety and peace when she is with him. I really found their dynamics so endearing. Its been a while since we had a heroine that had a more gentler side. I liked how spirited she could be when she believed in something strong enough, but I also loved how Gino never pushed her. He pretty much let her control things in the relationship. He is so gentle and kind and very patient. I found their romance to be so sweet yet HOT too which is the perfect mix and Feehan does this blend so well. I fell so hard for Gino and Zara. They truly were just perfect for each other.

The plot line of the Chinese crime lord was a intense twist and there are some dark elements in this book that won't be for everyone because this villain is truly evil and cruel and we see what he is capable of. So its not easy to read this at times. So fair warning that elements of rape, whippings and caning violently are involved in the story.

However I loved the way that this team of Ghostwalkers just come together and fight and protect each other and their families. I was impressed with how well Feehan handled all the various elements to deliver a well written kick ass romance that was full of life and suspense and keeps you on the edge of your seat!! RIVETING FROM BEGINNING TO END!

Covert Game by Christine Feehan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second GhostWalkers book I have read and I had not trouble following the story line. Gino Mazza and Zara Hightower are the next two to get an HEA. Zara starts out in big trouble and in a what seems to be a suicide mission Gino helps rescue her. He is immediately attracted and she feels the same. There is a theme about individuals and what they need that is a big part of this story. That is mixed with a high level of tension as two different groups try for Zara. A nice story about how individuals differ and how friends often put the wrong pressure on because it is not what they would want.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Feehan is highly talented in creating worlds with words. I'm a big Feehan fan . I've read all her works, and we all know that is a lot of books. She once again wrote a riveting, suspense filled, romance that kept the reader white knuckle reading.

Recently, I was given the opportunity to read the first book in her new series,.Judgment Road. I really love her story telling just like I really loved the base of the story in Covert Games...but I'm a bit concerned with the descriptively described sadistic actions perpetrated on men, women and children. We knew there where actions taken in previous books but they seem to be escalating and I have to admit, I wish some of it was a little less described and more implied.

I received this ARC copy of Covert Games from Berkley Publishing Group. This is my honest and voluntary review. Covert Games is set for publication March 20, 2018.

If you're up for the usual Christine Feehan shenanigans---then you'll probably will love this. All the tropes she loves and uses are here in full force: the uber-possessive ultra-controlling man, the woman he loves, the team full of folks with enhanced capabilities, the terrible bad guy, etc. These are bleak books with a bleak world view, and sometimes that's how I feel about the world. But sometimes it's just a little too much.
