Newly promoted homicide detective, Lieutenant Jake Carrington of the Wilkesbury, CT Police Department, and his partner Louie Romanelli have several complicated cases on their hands. Jake is also dealing with a personal issue -- the man who was convicted of Jake's sister's murder is wanting a new trial and has asked for his DNA to be retested. Carrington and Romanelli are very busy interviewing suspects, chasing down leads, and reviewing case files. The homicides they are investigating include the bludgeoning murder of a young collect student, another involved a shot to the head of a divorced woman, and the rest of the squad is managing a hit-and-run death as well as a school shooting. They are working it with all the usual police procedural details.
I enjoyed this first in series to an extent but was totally irritated by the mad passionate love affair that Jake becomes involved in. I'm not a romance fan and I hate when it takes up so many pages in a book. I wish he would have just kept his mind on the cases. So this is not any sort of hard boiled detective novel, there wasn't much suspense typical of a crime thriller, so it was more a mystery with few surprises. I have the third in the series to read for review and will be skipping the second.

Homicide detective Jake Carrington takes murder personally...
This book is the first in a mystery/thriller series. The premise caught my attention because the detective wants to solve a lady's murder, yet his sister's murderer is up for parole. So, there are several things going on, which I think makes the story better. With this added layer of tension, we are plunged into the case headlong with Jake Carrington.
The author does a great job of keeping the tension nice and tight throughout the story. The twists and turns along the way will keep you on the edge of your seat as you turn the page. I tried guessing the outcome a few times but I guessed incorrectly each time.
The author makes you feel like you're right there with the detective, trying to solve the case. I liked the characters and the dialogue. I thought the story was solid. I thought the setup and execution was spot on. There were some slow spots in places, but not too many.
Overall, I'm glad I read it. I look forward to the next one in this series.
Recommend!

It’s a book that you could read during your holiday while lounging at the pool and don’t want to think too much. It’s got plenty of drama and romance with a background story of crime and mystery. More like a diary of everyday police’s life with behind the scene of after office hours. A quick read with something to expect on each turn of the page.
The story started with Jake Carrington got summoned to his Captain’s office about his sister’s killer and his promotion as Lieutenant. At first glance I thought the story will be focused on Jake sister’s killer. Well, apparently it’s not the case. Along the way, the story develops into a more complex and unfocused direction. With a bunch of cases thrown around the book, sometimes I lost direction on the cases and who’s who. It’s like: who’s that again? From which case is that person? After a while….oh, that’s the one from that case. It’s kind of tiring. The red line that connected the whole story is Jake’s love life and his friendship with his partner Louie.
The characters are not weepy but stressed more on the romance and dramatic side. Jake is described as the most eligible banchelor who has the worst luck with women. He dated occasionally, even dated a witness and pays a steep price for it. Louie as his partner and friend is pictured as a family man, someone who is nice and friendly with lots of humor.
The end is well what should I say, a bit unpredictable. The cases got closure, with crime of passion is behind the reason for each case. But Jake’s life is getting a different turn by the end. By the end of the story, I’m still find this book engaging, although still a bit too much drama for me.
Recommend for those who love a thriller with not too much stress on the crime aspect, a bit of drama and humor.
Jake Carrington and his partner Louie are after a murderer but the similarities to the murder of Jake's sister years before makes it challenging as he battles his memories and desire to see a murderer come to justice. Jake and Louie are developed as a delightful duo with enjoyable banter though Louie has his hands full keeping Jake focused on the current murder rather than bringing the past to the future. Add a bit of romance to Jake's life and it's a full on suspenseful police procedural. Future additions of the series should attract readers demanding more. Carrington stories.
This is the first book I have read of Marian's and I will tell you it definitely won't be the last. The complexity and depth of her characters drew me in and with several layers of story line kept me reading and turning the pages wanting to find out what happens next both in the murders that have happened as well as in the personal life of her main character, Jake. Jake Carrington is my new hero. Even though he is dealing with personal issues he still manages to fight crime with his partner Louie. The banter between them is awesome and they are like family. Even when they get promoted they still work close together.
This book really had me from beginning to end and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

All the deadly lies centers around Lieutenant Jake Carrington who's working on the case of women found stripped and bludgeoned . Meanwhile he's having flashbacks of his sister's murder . Intense and gritty police procedural that will take you on a suspenseful and eerie ride ! This author is a remarkable storyteller ! This book has a perfectly crafted plot with sharp characters . Highly recommend ! . Thanks to #Netgalley and #KensingtonBooks #LyricalUnderground #AllTheDeadlyLies
This was a pretty good read. It got off to a strong start. There were a few places that it became long-winded. The ending could have been better.
Homicide Detective Jake Carrington certainly has his hands full. Newly appointed to the title of Lieutenant with all the responsibility that entails, he's still working cases.
He has a stalker ... the sister of a woman who was murdered. He is still working the case, but he made the mistake of dating the sister a time or two. Sister is not pleased at all. And since Jake has since started dated another woman, the new lady friend is also being stalked ... but is it the same woman, or is there something else going on?
The woman found dead is a not so subtle reminder of Jake's own sister who was brutally murdered some years ago. The man responsible was caught and is now in prison. However, because of DNA testing, he is requesting to be tested and filing for a new trial. The thought that this man might walk the streets again make Jake literally sick with anger.
Another woman is found murdered and according to her children and friends, she had no enemies. Unless you count her ex-husband and his new wife. They don't gain anything by her death, so who else would want the lady dead?
ALL THE DEADLY LIES is well-written with characters that are stand out. Jake and his partner, Sgt Louie Romanelli ... one Irish, one Italian... are closer than most brothers. I love how they interact with each other and with Louie's wife and kids. They are both focused on their careers and finding justice for the victims and their families.
The story premise is a good one ... easy to read, easy to follow. There's a lot of door-knocking and interviewing possible suspects, most times more than once. This is not a CSI look-alike, there's a lot of credibility in this author's storytelling.
Not all Jake's cases get solved in this go-around. A small cliff-hanger is involved. I'm really looking forward to see Jake and Louie in their next adventure.
Many thanks to the author / Kensington Books - Lyrical / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this crime thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Jake Carrington is a cop. A lieutenant. There has been a murder in his jurisdiction. A young women has been found bludgeon ed to death. Flashbacks of his sisters murder come to haunt him.
Jake maybe one of the top cops, but if he doesn't get his head on straight he may not be the one to work the case. Intriguing, interesting, captivating.

This was a police procedural, and admittedly this is not my favorite type of mystery/thriller.... however, I did find this book interesting and the characters quite engaging....
Jake and his partner Louie’s relationship and banter was really the best part of this book for me.... I thought these men both as partners at work and as characters in this book balanced each other out really well.... and bonus they were both very manly without being complete jerks.....
In the first half of this book there was a lot going on, really a little too much.... the second half of the book really focused on the two main cases in this book, and I found that part of the book very well done.... I was solving the crime right along with Jake and Louie....
There is some romance in this book between Jake and Mia... really liked her character, and I think she struggled with something a lot of Women do, including myself.... wanting to be that strong independent woman, and yet wanting someone to be there for you when you want them to be..... of course this confuses Jake, because really it is quite confusing.... warning to my Friends with an aversion to romance your eyes will be rolling....
Steam rating from 1-10 is a 4🔥🔥🔥🔥
Movie rating if this were a movie for sex, violence, and language probably R
Absolutely recommend this book to fans of police procedurals with a pretty fabulous partnership.... you could always skim the romance if that’s not your thing😉
