Detective Blake Knight is up for promotion to his fathers old unit, but only if he solves this next case while playing strictly by the rules. He is used to working undercover and becoming all sorts of people but this job will uncover who he really is.
Reese Landon has come back to Dallas because her dad has been shot. She is hoping for a reconciliation with him. She will protect the business he loves, while he can't.
The business comes with the perks of lots of eye candy, but also has something shady going on.
This is a sexy romantic suspense with lots of laughs, danger and wonderful characters. The bad guys are everywhere. Nobody knows who to trust. The story will draw you in from the first page and give you all the entertainment you could wish for. I think I want Reese's job. L. O. L.
Detective Blake Knight has excelled at undercover work. He’s become so many people he’s lost sight of who he really is. Left in a trash dumpster by his birth mother, born crack addicted, raised by his adoptive mother and cop dad, he’s spent his life proving he was worth being saved. He needs one more successful op to get the promotion he wants. He’s offered an opportunity to bust a steroid ring which will require him going undercover at a male strip club, Dallas Heat.
Reese Landon was raised at Dallas Heat after her mom died from breast cancer, leaving her with dad. Her dad shut down after her mom’s death, leaving her to deal with her loss on her own. When she was 18, a dirty cop assaulted her and her dad chose to sweep it under the rug instead of pressing charges. She leaves town, joins a dance troupe and spends the next 12 years traveling all over the world performing. No contact with her dad at all. She returns home when her father is shot and in the ICU in a coma to run Dallas Heat until he recovers.
When Blake requests an undercover job at Dallas Heat to track down the steroid ring, Reese tells him the only job opening she has is for a stripper. These two begin a sparring match of interest. However, Blake sees things as strictly black and white while Reese has grown up with many shades of grey.
I was initially excited because Reese came across as take charge, independent, sassy, able to stand up for herself as well as defend herself with martial arts moves. And I love kick ass female leads. Then she pulled a few TSTL moves as well as her constant push pull with Blake, even after they hit the sheets, and I felt let down.
Blake is so focused on proving himself worthy and better than his origins that he loses sight of everything else. His push pull with Reese becomes just as annoying as hers. I found myself skimming their whining, poor pitiful me internal dialogues.
It was so obvious from the beginning who was running the steroid ring. The storyline was predictable. Despite this, the suspense is written well enough to hold your attention.
The sex scenes were steamy but if I heard him say “I’m going to make you scream” one more time, I was going to scream!
At the end, we are giving a tease about the next book. I really liked this side character in this book and can’t wait to read his story next.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher.
A hot detective working undercover in a male strip club? Count me in!! When I read the blurb for this one I knew I needed to read it. I definitely was not disappointed.
Detective Blake Knight is working to bust a steroid ring working out of a male strip club. Making inroads into the group will require him to get a job in the club. Reese Landon is running her father's club after he's shot and left in a coma. She's aware her father has some shady deals going on and she'll do whatever it takes to protect him. Seems like cooperating with Detective Blake is the best way to do that. You know, keep your enemies close and all that. Too bad he doesn't really seem like an enemy. She just hopes she can keep her attraction to him at bay before they all get burned.
This is a very well done book with great writing, characters, and a nice pace and storyline. Definitely a book I recommend.
I am a big fan of Karen Rock, I love her Rocky Mountain Cowboy series and was excited to read the first book of a new series.
When reading this book, you may need a fan (or 20) because it is HOT....i mean its set around a male strip club, but it is not sleazy, Ms Rocks skill at writing makes the scenes sensual and sexy, unlike some books who go for crude descriptions and antics
The main story revolves around an undercover cop, Blake, posing as a stripper, to disband an illegal drug ring. He buts heads with Reese, who's the daughter of the clubs owner. I dont want to give anything away, but this is a fast paced, sexy story full of twists and turns
Bring on book 2
I received a free copy from the publisher through Netgalley and voluntarily reviewed it.
Dangerous Moves is the first book in Karen Rock's new romantic suspense series. I've read almost all of Karen Rock's books so far and really like her writing. So I jumped on the chance to get an advance copy of this one. It is a great start of this new series, it has some steamy romance, danger, suspense and a bit of mystery all rolled into a great read.
The story follows Detective Blake Knight, who has to finish a case to get his long sought after promotion. He has to find out who is behind a steroids ring in Dallas. Reese returns to Dallas after her father is shot. There is a connection with Blake's case and he goes undercover in the club her father owns as male dancer to uncover the truth.
There is an instant attraction between Blake and Reese, even tough they don't know if they can trust each other at first. I liked how their romance was steamy, but it actually took a while before it really heated up. Which gave them time to get to know each other a bit better. But only toward the end of the book do they really open their hearts to each other.
It made for an interesting plot with how Reese and Blake didn't trust each other at first and are sort of on opposite sides. We get both their point of views, but there are a lot of questions and things we don't know. Blake sees Reese as a potential suspect and wonders if her father is involved. Reese defends her father and hopes her return to Dallas gives them a chance at reconciliation. But she knows some things don't add up in her fathers records and is afraid how he is tied into this.
I liked the suspense plot of this book and how both characters were involved/ connected to the case. There are some scenes filled with danger and tension. It kept me wondering who was involved in this case, how Reese's father tied into this all and how they would discover the truth. And there are some answers they can only get once Reese's father wakes up, if he does. In the end I predicted two important people involved in the case, but that's mostly due to well done foreshadowing and some well placed hints that allowed me to put things together. But it was still great to see them figure it out and resolve things.
I liked how Reese could hold her own, but at the same time it did make me a tad uncomfortable how she got involved in some scenes as she wasn't trained for this like Blake was. But she does have an original perspective and sheds some different light on things. And it was neat how they both tied to this case and how that connection allowed them to get closer.
Both Reese and Blake are great characters. I liked how different they were, but also how they had things in common. Reese left Dallas years ago after a traumatic experience and only returns once her father is shot and lands in a coma. She has changed since then and is ready to face her old fears, but part of those fears are still there. I like how she had her strengths, but also still had some doubts. She also kept some things from Blake, but while on the one hand that bothered me I also felt like it made sense as they weren't sure for a long time how much they could trust the other.
Reese sees things in shades of gray, while for Blake the world is black and white. I liked seeing when his conviction got challenged and when he eventually was forced to open his eyes and realize things weren't as black and white as he thought. I also liked how he slowly finds himself in this book and how some long lasted fears and worries are finally put to rest. I liked how he was protective of Reese, but also valued her insights and her initiative.
The first meeting between these two already has some heat and their attraction is obvious, but there's a lot between them before they can give into it. And when they do the sparks fly. There is mostly heat when they finally get closer, but then that slowly morphs into more. I loved seeing how they finally open themselves to more and trust the other. And there are some touching scenes later on. Like when they finally admit their fears to each other and fully trust each other with the things they know. The conflict between them was well done too, it made sense they didn't fully trust each other. And while there is a scene that causes some doubts between them toward the end, I am glad it didn't blow up as much as I feared. And I liked how things were resolved at the end.
To summarize: this was a great read and a good start this this new romantic suspense series. There is a good suspense plot line that kept me wondering. There is some well done foreshadowing that allowed me to predict two of the people involved in the case, but it was still great to see how the characters pieced things together. They have an immediate attraction to each other, but seem to be on opposites sides. I liked seeing them grow closer and then give in to the attraction between them. And eventually that attraction turns into more and I loved seeing when they open up to each other and start the trust the other. Both characters are great to read about. They are quite different from each other and have some differing points of view as well, which made for some interesting scenes. But they also fit so well together. All in all this book had a good mix between romance and suspense and I can't wait to see what the next book will bring.
It was very intriguing and exciting to know Karen Rock was writing a book so different from her previous one, and Dangerous Moves proved to be an amazing read! While a different genre, I think this story still has Karen's seal, her characters are still compelling and there's lot of emotions but kudos to Karen because the adult aspect of the story? she totally pulled it off.
I found the plot very interesting for starters, I mean, a cop undercover in a strip club? that definitely got my attention, and detective Blake Knight was amazing; he's definitely not the same character he was when you start the book, he's bound to see things from a different perspective, not so black and white; and so does our heroine Reese. I loved the banter between Blake and Reese, and they had great chemistry so it was great to see how their relationship develops.
I did see coming some things but that didn't stop me from being hooked to the book , I think the author did a good job maintaining the suspense while also having some really steamy scenes, the story just flows smoothly.
I'm definitively looking forward to reading the next book in this series and I'd totally recommend this book.
I was mesmerized from the beginning when I read this book. Needless to say that I loved reading it, sometimes went back a few pages or chapters to read it again. I devoured the words and ideas and the wicked fantasy sewn into this hot and sexy undercover story. I loved how Karen Rock told the story between two people who so desperately deserved to be loved, got their chance of their happy ever after. I must admit: I even didn’t know who were the villains in this story - it came as a big surprise and that’s saying something (at least for me). Again, full marks! Awesome book, hot and sexy and extremely well written!
Detective Blake Knight has been undercover before. But an assignment to bust a steroid ring running out of Dallas’s elite male strip club means his new cover will be nothing but his own taut muscles and oiled skin. It’s one thing for the tough, by-the-books agent to take down bad guys with his gun. Facing a rowdy crowd in only a G-string is another story . . . especially in front of his new boss, gorgeous, mysterious Reese Landon.
Her father’s club and shady business practices bring back terrible memories for Reese. But when he’s shot and goes into a coma, she vows to protect him the way he never did for her. That means keeping the police at a distance—especially sexy, driven Detective Knight. If she has to give him a cover job, it would be a crime not to put that glorious ass on stage. But no matter how good he looks in a Velcro uniform, she can't trust him, or give into the undeniable heat between them. They're both chasing the truth. And it might expose more than either wants to show . . .
I received an arc from Netgalley. While the characters in this book had a lot of good chemistry at first I had a hard time accepting the storyline. Undercover as a stripper? but it did grow on me.
Blake and Reese were two people destined for each other and while Blake is undercover at the strip Club Reese is running there is definitely chemistry between them.
Four stars.
Dangerous Moves is a fantastic book. Despite it being an easy guess who the bad guy is from early on, there are several characters who leave you guessing if they were in on it. The sex isn't over done, the suspense is about perfect, as is the pacing, and the ending is satisfying. I really have no issues with this book. Definitely worthy of reading.
My thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the pleasure of reading and reviewing Dangerous Moves by Karen Rock.
Wow. I loved this story. Great writing and suspense kept me hooked to the very end. I never would have guessed who shot Reese's dad. Reese has come back home to take over the family business while her father is in a coma. Blake is a Dallas cop given a drug selling case to solve landing Reese in danger. Can Blake and Reese work together and solve this case? Admit to their feelings for each other? You'll have to read to find out :)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this romance, which had more suspense and drama that really kept me turning the pages.
Blake was a total hero and forever the good guy, even if he bumbled the love a bit. His off the cuff remarks and moves had me sniggering from the start.
Reese was a heroine for sure, coming back stronger and more kickass than she ever had been. Even though her loyalties were a bit misplaced at times, she too had her funny snark moments.
These two together were pretty freaking awesome and had the sparks flying in and out of the bedroom. The story flowed smoothly, maybe a bit predictable in a few places, but still very intense and captivating. It kept me hooked right to the very end.
This is a new series and a side of Ms Rock I didn't know about, but certainly want to hear more from.
I received an ARC from Netgalley and am freely providing an honest review.
I didn't want to put the book down. SOlid plot and romance. Good dialogue.
Blake and Reese were an awesome couple, I really enjoyed reading their story. They truly complimented one another. You kinda know who the bad guy is in the story but wanting to see him caught makes up for the lack of suspense.
Having a cop going undercover in a male stripper club is is something new and I’ll admit readily that this played a huge part in wanting to read ‘Dangerous Moves’. Marvellous premise, after all and I’ll not say no to this. Romantic Suspense or not, that does start off rather hilariously, as Blake Knight takes on one of the dodgiest cases and had the (good?) fortune of meeting the owner’s daughter.
But with the strip club as a front for illegal activities amid the red-hot male routines, Blake and Reese find themselves on the opposite sides of the law, and that proves to be the rift that this pairing is built on despite the helpless pull of attraction that both have for each other.
Both Blake and Reese clearly have some sort of character-growth arc throughout: Blake for seeing the world in black and white and having his moral code flipping on its head when he learns about dirty activities involving cops and steroids were happening under his nose. On the other hand, Reese’s blind, naive loyalty to her father gets her close to obstructing justice, as is her refusal to see family as anything but culpable. However, it isn’t one that’s realised early on enough until it’s nearly too late, having her come across as naive and a bit TSTL, and possibly a bit selfish, to the point where she thinks that Blake doing his job means not putting her first.
That said, Karen Rock writes the suspense excellently and the pacing during these action scenes is well done. Yet it got predictable—the villain’s identity seemed as obvious as daylight—and there were parts in the middle of a scene or chapter transitions that felt awkward with several odd phrases that stood out during the sex scenes for instance. But there were also bits that had me laughing, particularly in the beginning. I did want to know more about another secondary character however (and was slightly mollified that there will be a book on him) and was disappointed when he merely flitted in and out of the pages like a passing ship in the night.
‘Dangerous Moves’ is nonetheless a decent read, albeit not a perfect one. Rock however, teases the blurb of the next book in here and that’s making me look forward to it already.
