I have friends who adore Lauren Dane so I figured I'd give her a shot. I came across this book and since I love series featuring family members, this was my first choice.
I believe this is one of the author's first books and the copy I read was a slightly newer version (edited a bit but nothing in the story changed). So I'll give the book some leeway since it was a beginning novel for the author. The negative is that the writing is a bit juvenile, some of the drama a little too much.
I also didn't care for how Shane was dragged into the story at the beginning. There surely was a way to have Maggie date Kyle's brother without making him out to be a jerk (which we later learn, he isn't) and Maggie looking like a doormat who cries all the time.
The good piece is that I adored all of the Chase brothers and their family. I also liked Maggie's best friends and was glad they had a decent amount of attention in the book. And once Maggie started to grow a backbone and stop acting like a 13 year old, I really liked her as well.
The writing doesn't flow as well as it could, there are too many repetitive phrases, and some of the southern talk seemed a bit overdone in written form. BUT since I adored the Chase brothers and liked the overall premise of the story, I will be giving this author another chance or two. I'm confident that her writing has improved since this book!
I loved this book. It was such a great read. I like her strength and her truth. I also want a Kyle of my own
This book had lots of laughs, Smokin’ hot men and some suspense - the recipe for an excellent book that will ensure you become addicted to the Chase Brothers!
Maggie is a Kind, shy school teacher and Shane is a jaded Sheriff - their meeting is explosive and the chemistry is off the charts hot.
Really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more of the Chase Brothers series!
The beginning of the book left me a little bit perplexed, because I was not getting the point, but then she packed so much stuff in this novel than I was thinking about the plot twists and so on. A really enjoyable page turner.
THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE DRC!
I loved this story. It is all about family and a small southern town. It is sweet and has a happily ever after. There is done drama to keep it interesting too.
This is a super sweet romance. Oh there's some drama, that's part of the fun. But overall it is very sweet and what I'd call a beach read. Kyle Chase and his brothers are the hottest and least available men in town. That is until Kyle finally notices Maggie. But first they have to overcome a few obstacles. Full of hot sex scenes and funny dialogue. I do admit that some of the Southern dialogue bothered me. I'm from the deep south, so I know how we sound, but some of this was just over the top and came out funnier than it should have.
I have read before this author and I liked her books, unfortunately this isn't one of these books!I have problem with many things.I couldn't connect with the characters and I didn't like the characters.I hope that other people maybe they will like it more!

If you didn't know already Lauren Dane is one of my favourite authors ever, I cant fault anything that I have read from here and she continuously produces amazing stories. When I found out she was re releasing these I was over the moon, the covers are hot and the stories are even better, it doesn't matter what the cover looks like.
I freaking LOVED this Story, I have re read it so many times I have lost count. This revised edition isn't anything different just a little polished. The story is exactly the same and nothing changes, thank goodness!
I loved all the different emotions i went threw reading this, The Chase brothers are Wicked Sexy!
This One is about Maggie and Kyle!! And it is So Good...
Maggie has a few dates with this guy called Alex and he turns out to be a FREAK!
Then she has a couple of Dates With the Oldest Chase Brother Shane, The way they meet is so funny, but Kyle has had is eye on her for awhile and is waiting for Shane to stuff up.
And he does, and Kyle wants to wooe her... and let the awesome (ness) begin!
I'm so excited for new reader to read this series that means so much to me, I read them over 9 years ago and still today are my favourite Lauren Dane series.
This is great Love story and i just cant get enough, you wont be able to either. The whole cast is everything, this series is the original "small town, family series"
3.5 stars - The Chase men are like the holy grail, often talked about but never captured, at least not for long. Maggie is the black sheep of her family and an emotional punching bag for her mother and sister. When the Chase men give her a second look and then a third, things start to get interesting for her. Will it be Shane or Kyle who wins her heart. While the road to HEA is a windy and rocky path, thankfully, she gets the perfect guy in the end.
This one did have a few problems for me, specifically the story was trying to do too much. There was a brother conflict, villain sister and mother (more about mom later), a stalker, and women trying to wreck Maggie and Kyle's relationship at every turn. Any two of these would have been enough tension for the story. Also, the Chase family seemed nice but excessive hoverers. They were always present, in mass. Support is one thing, but it seemed cloying to me. As for Maggie's mom, she is so vile, I can't imagine that any parent is actually this badly behaved, especially in public.
It was a good read as far as writing quality and romance/steam factor, but over the top in ways that made it lose 1.5 stars. So this truly committed Lauren Dane fan gives Giving Chase 3.5 stars.
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I really struggled with this book. Between the formatting issues, the constant switching between character perspectives, and overuse of southern endearments it was all too much. I read the entire book because I was interested in the storyline and felt a connection with Maggie. But I can’t really say I enjoyed this book.
( I read this book 3-4 years ago and all I remember was that I rated it 3 stars.)
A Redo and Refresh of a book from before- Good Plain girl decides to turn the page and update herself... Bam other fellas start to pay attention...
The one who everyone would think would be a great match.... is a fool and the bad boy sees our gal for who she is...
DNF this one.... the writing was not good for me. The characters were too immature endnote likable.
I didn't realize this was a series from several years ago when I first started reading. But having read Lauren Dane's other series I can see a growth in her writing.
Giving Chase takes place in Georgia and I felt the dialect for the brothers was a little over the top. The politeness was a part of their Southern charm but the golly geeness of their speech was frustrating for someone like me from Tennessee.
As to the story itself I loved Maggie and her quiet attractiveness. I found Lauren Dane about spot on with how things like this work- quiet girl not noticed, once a few minor adjustments made then the popular guy thinks he has a claim on her just because of his status. At first I thought Shane was going to be perfect for Maggie and she was going to tame and conquer the bad boy. No- he was a jerk!
In the background waiting his time is the sweet brother- Kyle. Finally making his move Maggie feels certain it's out of pity. Kyle has his work cut out for him to prove his true intentions. WIth Maggie being stalked by a crazy man the job to "court" her takes on a different meaning when they all face danger.
Maggie has finally had it with the men she's been dating but a spilled plate of chili cheese fries drops Shane Chase right into her lap. The sheriff is hot stuff but was burned by a former fiancee and is quite happy to play the field. When I started reading I couldn't put it down I read the book is one day.Lauren is magnifysent writer.I cannot wait to read more of her books.Keep up the great work.
ARC received for review
Reissue. There appears to be nothing changed from the original.
I wans't too sure about this one to start with. Maggie goes out with a future pyschopath, then Shane, before ending up with Shane's brother, Kyle. Maggie and Kyle have a very sweet romance while she dodges mister crazy. His family is amazing, her's not so much. It'll be interesting to see who his brothers all wind up with.
I received a complimentary arc from Netgallery for review purposes.
This was my first time reading this story and I LOVED it so much. Kyle and Maggie were such terrific characters and I loved them. There is a slight stalker aspect to this story.
At first I was confused with this story because it starts off as Shane is the romantic lead with Maggie. But then he becomes a jerk and Kyle swoops in and gets Maggie and they start dating. Shane is Kyle's brother and I don't typically like that kind of story with brothers dating the same girl. But the author spaces it out, and Kyle lets Shane know before hand and Shane and Maggie on share a few kisses and nothing else.
I totally loved this story once it got going and I beyond loved Maggie and Kyle. The whole Chase family is wonderful and I want to read the other stories in the series.
A cute story, but it is very clear that this is an early Lauren Dane book. It lacks the great characters and strong storytelling you see in her more recent releases. Overall it was a little predictable and the heroine had moments where she was touching TSTL and whiny territory. Still a fun read.
