I enjoyed reading these essays. The essays cover a wide range of natural history, from the author's childhood to his life on his farm in Maine and his observations about the world around him. The author does a very good job of taking you along on his walks and making the scientific observations accessible. I really enjoyed the follow up paragraphs at the end of some of the essays. The author does offer some hope that nature and science will survive. The text is accompanied with illustrations. Enjoy the armchair nature.

Wonderful detailing of Roosevelt's efforts to save the natural world in his own way. Finished it with a million great stories and a newfound understanding of Roosevelt.
