Everybody lies, and this book is packed with them. Trying to figure out who is will have your brain as tied up in twisted knots as the plot. Darkly entertaining.
Title: A Tangled Web of Deceit in "Liars" by Frances Vick
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
"Liars" by Frances Vick is a psychological thriller that delves into the complexities of deception, betrayal, and the consequences of one's actions. While the novel has its merits, it falls short in certain aspects that prevent it from reaching its full potential.
Vick's storytelling is undeniably compelling, creating a dark and suspenseful atmosphere that keeps the reader engaged throughout. The central theme of deceit is explored with intricate details, and the author adeptly weaves a tangled web of lies and secrets that add layers to the narrative. The pacing is generally steady, with moments of tension that heighten the overall reading experience.
However, where "Liars" stumbles is in its character development. While the characters are intriguing and have the potential to be deeply engaging, some of them lack the depth needed to fully connect with the reader. The motivations behind certain actions and decisions remain unclear, leaving gaps in the understanding of key characters' behaviors.
The plot, although suspenseful, at times feels overly convoluted. The complexity of the narrative may lead to confusion, as the story weaves between past and present, making it challenging to follow the timeline and fully grasp the unfolding events. A more streamlined approach to storytelling could have enhanced the reader's experience.
Additionally, the resolution of the plot may leave some readers wanting more clarity. Loose ends are tied up, but the conclusion feels rushed, and certain aspects of the story are left unresolved. A more satisfying and well-rounded ending could have elevated the overall impact of the novel.
On the positive side, Vick's exploration of the psychological toll of lies and the impact on interpersonal relationships is thought-provoking. The narrative raises questions about the nature of trust and the consequences of manipulating the truth, offering readers moments of reflection.
In conclusion, "Liars" is a decent psychological thriller with a gripping premise that tackles the theme of deception. While the storytelling is engaging, the novel could benefit from stronger character development, a more straightforward narrative structure, and a more satisfying resolution. It's recommended for readers who enjoy psychological dramas but are willing to navigate a narrative that occasionally veers into murkier waters.
This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
Thank you for the opportunities to read this book. I have attempted it on a number of occasions but unfortunately I haven’t been able to get into it.

I would recommend this story to all thriller lovers . This book took me by surprise. It kept me interested throughout the story and I needed to see what was going to happen. I truly enjoyed the pacing of the story and the well-written characters.
I really enjoyed this book, finishing most of it in one day. The storyline was quite slow initially but the build up was definitely worth it. It was really frustrating but in a good way, and I even sobbed a little in parts. Highly recommend!
Thrilling story, with a fabulous plot!! Highly recommend to everyone who is a fan of this genre. Kept me turning the pages well into the night.
Liars was a good read. Great story and characters with lots of twists and turns throughout that I did not see coming. Kept me guessing.
This was not the engaging book I had hoped for. I struggled to finish it. My main issue was the writing style. The main character, Jenny, tells most of the story through her online blog. I didn’t like sifting through the content of the blog to piece together the story. At times the blog was repetitive, wordy or her complaining. Then you would get the useless comments on the blog.
I received this galley from NetGalley.
i read this in 2018 and rated it 3/5 i didnt write a full review, i felt it wasnt as good as my last read by her but non the less i still enjoyed it
This is a book where nothing is what it seems—classic psychological thriller if you ask me. The majority of the characters are unreliable and there are plot twists at every corner. Great read!
This is an excellent psychological thriller and I was gripped from the beginning until the end! It had a great pace and a really good plot, there were quite a few twists even up to the end!!! Well written, fast paced and worth your time and effort. Highly recommended.
3.5 Stars_I had no idea what I was in for starting this book, only that it was a psychological thriller. I'm glad I went in blind because I feel like even the description of this book is vague, and after reading this book I understand why. Go in blind !
The narration goes back and forth between Jenny, David and Jenny's friend Freddie. I loved the different perspective, honestly that's what made the book so surprising and unexpected. My emotions and sympathy kept changing between the characters as I was reading the different perspectives. It's was mind bottling and I didn't expect any of it to play out the way it did.
The reason I didn't rate it any higher is only because to me something was missing in the story. The writing is amazing, the character development amazing, the premise was pretty original, but something in the story itself made me not enjoy this book as much. It's hard to describe when I don't wanna give too much away. However, I do recommend ! It was a good read nonetheless.
This kept my interest for the first half, but then it got a bit long and I started skimming. It was good, but not quite as good as the hype.
Liars by Frances Vick is a psychological thriller. Jenny, a mature student and troubled by a damaged childhood is befriended by a school acquaintance after her mother dies. Unlikable characters and unreliable narrators made their s an uncomfortable read.
Loved this book with the twists in it. I think what's great about it is it's all very subtle. One minute you think it's going in one direction and then before you realise it's going in another. All of the characters are strong and believable which for me is an important part of a book. The story is not far-fetched and you can believe this will happen when two individuals who have their own problems meet.
Jenny has had a tough life, she's been both abused and neglected by the very people who should have looked after her growing up and now she's had to give up what little life she had to care for her I'll mother.
David would do anything for Jenny...he's looked out for her since they were teenagers. But she barely knows he exists....
This is a twisted tale of obsession and lies, double crosses and revenge. Initially it's quite light hearted (despite the early death) as you follow Jenny's friendship with Freddie, her best friend. Their banter almost covers a grim undercurrent....almost. As David comes into her life (in the open anyway - he's been involved for a while) it becomes more about manipulation and lies, control and scheming. It quickly becomes very dark. Which is always a good thing in my opinion. This is another great psychological thriller from Frances Vick,
I desperately tried to get into this book and I just couldn't do it. It bored me, to the point where I didn't finish it. I tried it 4 or 5 different times and just couldn't do it.
