This current incarnation of the Captain Canuck universe is a winner. This time, publishing this series, they have gotten it right. The characters are great, the antagonists are believable and interesting, the story arc is strong and the pace is spot-on. I eagerly anticipated this second volume (after reading the first) and it delivered everything I hoped for. There is still the crackling tension between Captain Canuck and his brother. The introduction of Blue Fox to the story is a welcome addition. Much of the story works because of her mysterious interactions and battles with Captain Canuck.
This is a series still finding it's legs, but the improvement is a huge stride forward. Definitely worth a read. I look forward to the next volume.

'Captain Canuck, Vol 02: The Gauntlet' by Kalman Andrasofszky is a much better volume than the first one I read. I like seeing this title trend toward better.

Mr. Gold is still at large, and Captain Canuck and his team are going a bit rogue searching for him and missing Marla Ritchie. Meanwhile, a new member joins the team, but he may not be hiding something. Add to that a team up between Captain Canuck and Blue Fox and it all seems to be a story that seems like it's moving towards chaos.

I felt like this volume's story was much more cohesive and didn't suffer from the confusing flashbacks of the first issues. The art is still just ok. Nothing spectacular and it isn't really something I like, but the storytelling is quite a bit better.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I didn’t like this volume as much as the first.

In this book, Captain Canuck faced the same villain, Mr. Gold. I was hoping his story was over and we would get a new villain in this book. It was tedious and boring to read about the same problems again.

I liked the introduction of Blue Fox. She was a great contrast to the Captain. However, his allies got lost in the mix. I kept getting them confused. I think it would have been better if there were less people on his team or if they were given more space in the story.

I hoped that this volume would be as entertaining as the first one, but unfortunately it was not.

Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment. This was slightly less confusing than volume 1 but not by much. I constantly felt like there were pages missing from this comic. Either the story wasn't making sense or a character was acting out of character and I kept asking myself, "Wait, did I miss something?"

3.5 stars

Story: 3 stars
What I liked: the build in characters and how they are becoming more rounded. I liked that it feels as though there is a little bit of momentum starting to roll in the story, and that there are consequences for actions, even if the characters themselves don't know what they are yet.

What I didn't like: I found the story to be a little bit more confusing.

Art: 4 stars

What I liked: the art was strong, with strong lines and colours.

What I didn't like: sometimes it felt as though the art didn't really match up with the mood that the story was trying to tell. And a lot of the characters looked alike, so it was a little hard to tell them apart.

I very much enjoyed this volume. I thought it is well done and very entertaining. This is one I will be looking out for in physical copy so I can read it again in the future.

It is with regret that I report that this volume suffers from the same problem as the first, the story is so scrambled and difficult to follow that I was unable to enjoy it. This one was slightly less jumbled but only because I had to re-read the first to have an idea of what was happening before I could start on the second. This is not a story you could start with volume two and I can tell you that I won't be reading number three. The artwork is great. The action sequences are superb. The problem is that those two things seem to be the only thing they focused on, instead of making a cohesive story. No sex scenes, some cursing and superfluous violence can't save this graphic novel. I love parodies but this is one I just could not enjoy.

I would like to thank the publisher, author, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I received an advance copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I read the first volume and wasn't totally impressed but I thought that this second volume was much better. It was more focused in terms of plot, even though it had a few things going on at once. It made sense, was easier to follow and I finally understand what's going on. The story lines and backgrounds on some of the characters definitely created the mystery that was lacking in the first one. The artwork was great as always.

Being Canadian, these comics make me laugh. I love that we can poke fun at ourselves and get a chuckle out of the weird things that Canadians say and do. The Hammer is my favourite....and I think it's because I'm from Hamilton. I appreciate the cheesiness and the brawniness of his character. The fact that he is called the Hammer, is from Hamilton, looks like a football player/steelworker, he wields a giant hammer, and shouts oskee wee wee as his battle cry....that makes my day.
This one ended on an interesting note and I would be curious to see what happens. I have faith that it will get better from here. One question I did have was at the back with all the bonus artwork, they have pictures of the characters with actual actors as their voice....am I missing something? Is this being made into a movie, cartoon, or audio book and I'm just out of the loop? Great choices for the voices though.
