This was very cute. A nice slow burn romance, animals, FOOD. Fun quick read even though a little cheese sprinkled about.

For the first book in a series, it was quite entertaining, with delightful characters...and one feisty cat...a believable mystery/murder plot, and a heroine who was smart, gutsy, and tenacious. I enjoyed how the story unfolded, methodically and based more on logic than emotions. I look forward as the series continues, Bre and hopefully Sherlock will have many more adventures to come.

This book was provided by the Publisher and Netgalley, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

Pretty good read, refreshing and well thought out. I like that the setting is in a lab. The typical whodunit mysteries are in cafe's, bakeries ,etc.
The story line flowed well and had enough intrigue and mystery to keep me reading.
I love that she uses logic to solve mysteries. Several interesting factors in this story; a dead boss, a grumpy cat, being a suspect. That would be a good reason to solve this murder mystery.
I will look for more work from this Author.

I appreciate the ARC from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review in order to read the book.

Dr. Bree is not just your typical nerdy scientist, no sir, she is a budding investigator, she loves to do things scientifically, even cooking is subjected to her chemistry experiments, she’s interested in the puzzle of the chemical bonding of different foods, that gives such wonderful tastes. When it comes to romance, nope it is a science she doesn’t quite get, but solving mysteries now that's her thing.
In CIC she is presented with her toughest puzzle yet, find out who killed her boss and framed her, now that’s a coinkydink. The storyline is good and there aren't too much scientific jargon, for us non-scientist readers, yep an interesting and intriguing package with a collection of interesting characters, making this book a must-read, nice.

I received a free copy of The Cupcake Caper by Kelle Z. Riley in exchange for an honest review. This was a fun introduction to a new mystery series. The main character is scientist and administrator Dr. Bree Mayfield-Watson; she becomes embroiled in solving the murder of her immediate supervisor when law enforcement identifies Bree as the prime suspect. The setting of the mystery is the corporate offices of a chemical plant though Bree’s baking hobby and love of animals take her outside the office during her down-time. The author provides recipes at the end of the book.

I look forward to the future adventures of Dr. Mayfield-Watson.

Bree Mayfield-Watson seems to have the perfect life -- a PhD and a good job that includes travel. What could be missing? How about romance, excitement .... murder?? Bree instantly gets two out of three when her boss is found dead. Before she realizes it, Bree is at the center of a murder investigation, and her life is far from dull. If she doesn't figure out what happened to him, she could be next. The Cupcake Caper is a fast-paced mystery with a hint of romance. Though it slowed down in a couple of parts, I enjoyed The Cupcake Caper and would recommend it.
