I got a copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
For a first book in a series, I found it okay. I think the problem was I read it after reading a fantastic fantasy and I was unfairly comparing it.
This book has a good story plot, the characterisation is well developed and the writing was okay. I know that other people really enjoyed the book but it did not capture me.
Overall, I do not regret reading it and I would recommend it.
Character and world building are great, you live the ups and downs and become invested in the story which moves at a great pace.
I had a problem getting into this book. Mostly because of the authors style of writing. Too much represented as already having occurred with little or no elaboration, leaving the reader (me) scratching my head trying to find some kind of rhythm. Or comprehension. Muddled is the feeling I'm left with before giving up and putting this book down. Sorry, but, I couldn't finish, not enough interest in finding what it all means.
A very good fantasy book, really entertaining. I liked the style of writing and the way the characters were developed.
The plot was really enjoyable.
Recommended to fantasy lovers.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher.
I read this book courtesy of Netgalley. This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. The story involves a young man, Ashton, who was orphaned as a boy when trolls attacked his village. He is now a member of the Rangers but suffers from spells, which makes it difficult for him to know if things are real or imagined when he has these spells. Through his work with the Rangers, he becomes involved in a quest. As the quest progresses, it seems that the events of his childhood may be related. I found the story very interesting and entertaining. I enjoyed all the characters. Everybody seems to have some backstory, which are just starting to be revealed. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
