I have stopped and started this one so many times and I've never been able to get into it... and I really wanted to because it sounded so promising. After about 20% I started skimming in hopes there would be something that would catch my attention but ultimately I gave up. This one wasn't for me.

Diving into a new world created by Ms. Robert is one of my most favorite things to do!! And this first book in The Kings series is gripping in it's enemies-to-lovers story. Beck has inherited his family's oil-rich company the only problem is there's competition for this company from his father's sister, who he's been estranged from for years.

Enter Samara Mallick a woman he's faced many times before in his business world and they definitely butt horns when it comes to bidding and contracts...and you know what they say about all the anger they show each other...it's HOT AS SIN when they get behind closed doors and these two are no different...their chemistry is combustible!!

This book is fast moving and I was so engrossed in the story I didn't want to put it down!! This book is not only a story in and of itself, but we get all sorts of details setting us up for the other books in this series and I can't wait to read them!!!

Katee Roberts has a way of spiking your interest when it comes to mysterious broody male protagonists. This book was no different. I always look for strong females that can melt a tough guys heart and this book delivered. I just felt at times it was slightly predictable. But a good read nonetheless.

Family at its most complicated… I mean wow….

I was fresh off Katee Robert’s O’Malleys series, so I honestly was afraid of being let down with this story. You know how it goes, when you read a fab book/series and you worry about the letdown if the next doesn’t have the same punch? Well, Beckett and Samara brought their own, unique style and all of it was head down, don’t come up for air reading…

The Kings were oil-rich, Texas royalty but scratch the surface and you would see the dangerous fractures just hiding underneath. Beckett and his father had been estranged from the rest of the family for years. Their own relationship was anything but drama-free but one thing they agreed on was their company was the best. With Beck’s aunt in direct competition that meant a rivalry that carried over onto each contact tussle. On opposite sides of the desk that meant Beck and Samara had every reason to keep things business-only. Too bad their hormones, and their hearts, didn’t get the memo…

The sizzle between these two was electric! Their physical chemistry heated up and took over even though both knew it was complicating their business relationship. Loyalties were tested and secrets revealed as their physical relationship morphed into more. I loved the push and pull between them, each reluctant, unable to resist encounter caused their hard edges to slowly soften… There was so much under the surface of these driven, business rivals and each nuance reveal was hard won…

If the ending seeming anti-climactic in its almost quiet resolution, Beck and Samara’s journey was anything but. They found their way out of the weeds through the bond they forged under fire and it was so, so sweet.

Amongst all the drama, the sparks brewing between Beck’s cousin and best friend were hard to miss. Not all the secrets have been uncovered so that means, insert cartwheels here, more Kings in my future!

Wow, I loved this book so so much. I am sorry I’ve finished it because I would have wanted the story to last more. I could not get enough of the main characters, their initial complicated relationship and then their relationship as a couple.

Kate Robert is without a doubt and exceptional writer. Her characters have a meaningful story, her characters have a strong personality and most importantly, her words have feelings and power over mine as a reader. And in my opinion, that’s all that’s needed for a 5 star romance.

Beckett and Samara work for different companies. Actually he owns the company that rivals the one she works for. They meet occasionally, they fight for the same things, but once the fighting is over, fire stars. Their relationship is beautiful and explosive at same time. He is carrying, attentive and is all in for her. And Samara, with all her trust issues, will be captivated by his attention. Both characters evolve in a beautiful way, but probably the change is more visible in Samara’s case, when her scarred personality will fade into the loving woman she is towards the end.

But this book is not all about romance (mostly yes). It does have a plot that kept me so focused and on the edge. I wanted to see how it all turned out with Beckett’s company, Samara’s career and all in between. The author really knows how to combine a good romance with a good plot.

To my sadness, this is my first book by Katee Robert and I am so sorry for not having read other books by her. But time is not lost, I have plenty of titles to recover. So give this book a try and I’m sure you’ll become as addicted as I am. Happy Reading!

There is just something about a Katee Robert book, that no matter how bad your day has been, she manages to suck you into her books within the first chapter, and it is honestly no difference with her new series The Kings.

Now I'm not going to get in to the details of the plot, because this story is too freaking delicious and let's be honest here, I'm gonna spill my guts and tell you everything, pretty much spoiling the whole story (cause it's that good!), plus the synopsis gives you a fair idea! But the writing is perfect, as you have come to expect from Katee Robert and boy! The Last King is good.

Now when it comes to the two main characters; I have seen Beckett King compared to many "dark-ish" tv characters, but for me he is not the typical "bad boy" character, but a man walking a very fine line, between good and evil, and sometimes there are dips and highs, if you know what I mean. Then there's Samara Mallick, the number 2 in the rival company to Beckett's fathers, she is a no-nonsense, strong woman, whose chemistry with Becketts is combustible!

Now, this book is more than just today! It's about history, with families, with each other, it's also about secrets, revenge and trying to do what's right! That's right people, it’s a flipping saga and I *love it*! And that is why I give The Last King 5 stars!

Beckett and Samara are a fantastic, modern couple. They clash in the boardroom and the bedroom, total equals, and their bring-it-on spirit makes every interaction lively and exciting, whether clothes are on or off. Power games abound, but there is give and take on both sides. While _The Last King_ launches straight into a familiar hyper-sensual, alpha billionaire trope, readers are soon treated to glimpses of a sweet, honorable hero who will put on his armor and battle to win, but would like nothing more than to de-escalate. Samara is a first-generation Asian Indian woman and has plenty of family baggage herself, but she’s a pawn in the King family war. The heart of this romance is the development of trust between Beckett and Samara, and Roberts expertly unfolds it, revealing the emotional connection on both sides under the flash and fire of their irresistible chemistry.

SUMMARY: The King family is nothing if not dysfunctional. There’s no love lost between Beckett King and his father, but together they ran Morningstar Enterprise and dominated the Houston oil industry, no thanks to Beckett’s Aunt Lydia King, their biggest competitor. When his father dies unexpectedly, Beckett is prepared to step into the CEO role—and he’s also prepared for corporate warfare with his aunt. To make everything that much more complicated, he can’t keep his hands off Lydia’s right-hand woman, Samara, and it’s entirely mutual. But loyalties and principles are strained to the breaking point when the war takes a murderous turn.

I am always a fan of Katee Robert, but I will admit that I was a bit nervous to pick up this book here. But I can say that I FELL in love with this book. I honestly couldn’t put it down after the first couple of chapter and the story was written so well. I loved the forbidden theme and the angst between the couple. I am not always a fan of angsty romances…but this one was penned perfectly in just the right way. So even if you don’t like angsty romances, you will come to adore this book…I guarantee it.

In this story it begins with our hero and heroine….Beckett and Samara. Beckett is the heir to the King domain….an empire he was raised for and is just what is needed to carry on after his father’s death. Samara works for Beckett’s aunt who has a vendetta against Beckett’s father. But Samara is loyal to a fault until one night she finds herself having a one night stand with Beckett. Both Samara and Beckett know they had a connection that night, but they both have dividing loyalties.
But as events start to escalate, the connection between Beckett and Samara build as does the love they have for each other and soon they start to uncover facts about Beckett’s aunt…..facts that could destroy them both.

What a wild ride of a romance, this had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to the end. I just adored everything about this book and the chemistry between Beckett and Samara was simply “curl your toes” and a story you never want to end. I really adored the mystery and danger aspects of the story. The more you read, the more you uncover dangerous truths about the King family, including how dangerous Beckett’s aunt really is and what she will do for power and revenge.

But what really pulls you in is the love story between Beckett and Samara and seeing them fight for what they have together. Their relationship isn’t an easy one that is for sure, but Beckett is a fighter and he will stop at nothing for the safety of the woman that he loves and Samara will learn the love she has for Beckett is worth everything she has and seeing these two work together to bring down a deranged and evil villain was PERFECTION!! They make such a great team, they have both strong personalities but they really are so good for each other and really balance each other out just right.

Solid start to The Kings series. Beckett comes off as being a hardass, rightfully so, after growing up with his father. Samara is a hardass as well and the two of them really complement each other well. It's nice to read about characters that are "hard" on the outside but share their vulnerabilities to each other. Neither Beckett nor Samara sacrificed who they were as individuals in order to be in a relationship with each other.

I'm REALLY looking forward to Frank and Journey. 2019 feels very far away.

Katee Robert became a go-to author for me when she released The Marriage Contract in 2015. The Last King is the start of Katee's newest romantic suspense and she is starting it off well.

The Last King surrounds the King family. Wealth, power and prestige is what has torn this family in two over the years. Beckett has inherited his father's company and fortune after his unexpected death. However, things are far some settled. His Aunt Lydia has always been a huge thorn in Beckett's father side and now she is driving that thorn into Beckett. But Lydia doesn't play by the rules and uses everyone around her to play her games for her.

Samara has worked for Kingdom Corp for quite some time and has worked her way up just short of top management. She is practically Lydia's right hand and also Beckett's biggest rival. These two are always in a bidding war for contracts but it's when they can no longer deny the sexual chemistry that things really get heated behind closed doors.

The Last King is a bit of slow burn read. Katee does a phenomenal job of giving us a lot of background detail on these characters and their families. I think this is where I felt things slow down a bit for me but it's needed in order to build the drama and suspense that will carry on for the rest of the series. You get an understanding of how things came to be and how it's affected each character in different ways.

This mixture of the romance and suspense was a perfect balance and blend. Samara kept her guard up when need be but also allowed herself to feel without the barrier of her job getting in the way. Beckett refused to allow his father or the animosity between the companies be a wedge between he and Samara. I love that he never once gave up his pursuit of her. There is no real mystery as to who's behind everything that keeps the excitement going - it's just seeing what happens next and how everyone fairs in the end that keeps the book moving along.

I am excited to see where Katee takes us in the next book. I can sense that Journey is going to be a very dramatic woman with her daddy issues. Daddy isssues seems to be driving force in this series.....I like it.

Having read and enjoyed the last three books in Katee Robert’s O’Malleys series, I found myself more than willing to pick up more of the author’s work. I keep meaning to go back to the start of the O’Malleys series, to fill in the gaps in my knowledge, but I’ve been sucked in by her new releases instead. First there was Make Me Want, the first book in the Make Me series. I wasn’t crazy about this one, but it was an okay enough read. Then there was The Last King, the first book in The Kings series, and I found I enjoyed this one even less. I’m thinking it may well be a case that the O’Malleys series was for me, but as a whole Katee Robert is not. I’m willing to give some of her other books a read, but I’m no longer the eager person I was prior to diving into The Last King.

You see, I was really excited for The Last King. It sounded exactly like the kind of book I would love, with all the elements of a good romance that sucks me in. Then, when I started reading, I found it was extremely difficult to get through. I kept starting and stopping this one, and it took me far too long to work my way through this book.

My issue is that I did not care. I did not care for the characters, as I could not connect with them at all. I did not care for the story, as it did not grip me in the way I had hoped. I just didn’t care much at all. I kept turning the pages, waiting for the moment where I would be sucked in, but it did not happen. I spent the entire book feeling indifferent to the events and the characters, and I was so disappointed as I had such high hopes this would be a new Katee Robert series I could enjoy from the start.

Sure it was steamy, I cannot fault Katee Robert for that, but without chemistry I cannot connect with such an element of the storyline – and I am not going to work my way through a series simply because the steam is good, when I am not enjoying anything else.

I’m sure many will enjoy this – I know there are many Katee Robert fans out there who will be more than ready to dive into the future books in this series – but it was not for me. As I said, I will give some of the author’s other work a read, but I doubt I’ll be diving into each new release as I have over the last couple.

Katee Robert is now solidly in my top 10 favourtie author list.... The Last King was an excellent start to what I know is gonna be a fantastic new series....

Neither Beckett or Samara were what I was expecting as I started reading.. Yeah, both were driven, determined and work focused, but as they spent time together and got to really know each other we got to see the real them and as their relationship developed, so did their characters and how much I liked them.

Ms Robert knows how to write one hell of an entertaining and engrosing book. Her storylines are interesting and believable, the characters possess depth and feel real - and hell can she conjure up a real detestable enemy - and her hot as hell encounters between the leading couple truly steam up the kindle!!

I LOVED this first book in The Kings series and cannot wait to find out more about Journey and Frank!!!

Without doubt, a recommended 5* read!

4 1/2 STARS!

Electrifyingly intense! Katee Robert's has a magical way of introducing us into a new world that makes us feel like we've been there forever! With this novel, she is kicking off The Kings series and taking us into the heart of the King family where feuding and backstabbing has been a way of life. She weaves intrigue into the story in a way that has us waiting for the next shoe to fall around every corner. The characters are complex and exciting and the story left me wanting the next book ... soon!

They've been butting heads for years, but the first person Beckett King thinks of when he finds himself overwhelmed dealing with his recent inheritance of his father's business, assets and enemies is Samara Mallick. They work for opposite sides of a feuding family and have stared each other down in competition after competition in the business world, but it doesn't stop them from sharing a powerful lust for one another that might be one of their undoings!

Samara is fiercely loyal to the person who gave her so many opportunities to get to the point in her career that she has reached today, and she won't just turn her head while someone threatens their downfall. She feels like she's being torn between two sides ... and one minute her allegiance is strong for her employer, but then she's in Beckett's arms and he's showing her his side of it all in the most sensual ways! Their connection is strong, but one side is going to fall and from the way things are stacking up, when it does, it's going to cause an aftershock that will be felt by many. Can they outrun the danger they find themselves exposed to in time to see justice served?

Another intense read from Ms. Robert! The Last King is a dramatic start to her latest series to star a wealthy but incredibly dysfunctional family (reminiscent of her O'Malley's, but with more of a legal business slant to it--probably?)

Beckett and Samara are highly likable characters and their chemistry is explosive--they weren't very good at resisting each other during the time frame of the book, though, so their "we shouldn't be doing this" and "this has to stop" protests pretty much lost all their credibility early on. There was plenty of real danger involved, though--mostly from the villain who is established early on in the book. At times (toward the end especially) it seemed a bit over the top, but it was still a heck of a lot of fun to read.

Can't wait for the next book, which is teased heavily here!

Rating: 4 stars / B+

It's always fun to start a new series and this one looks to be a good one. Especially looking forward to Anderson's tale.

Great start to a new series!! I definitely loved this book! It was so hot!! These two characters will definitely have you falling in love with them!! The back and forth between the two was a little drawn out but still a good read! Samara was a strong and fierce character and Beckett was trying to fight the character his family wanted him to be! But together these two were sexy hot!! I will definitely be reading the rest of this series as soon as it's available!! Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me! I highly recommend it, it's definitely a great start to what's going to be an interesting series!!
