This is scary! Chilling as it could very well be true. Then I read the author note at the back and she says the exact same thing and that it has probably happened somewhere. Makes you wonder what all these voice activated items might get up to in your house. Stories like this are good as they feed off the new technology and the fears people have and boy, does it work here!
Not a booktrail book but the setting of the dark web and the shadows of cyber space are enough here! You don't want to visit any of the places in this kind of read!
I would like to thank Avon Books UK and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Stalker’ written by Lisa Stone in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Derek Flint, proprietor of Home Security, is a loner with no friends and only his elderly mother for company. Together with his apprentice, Paul Mellows, he installs security cameras with in-built microphones into his clients’ homes and when Derek returns to the computer system set up in his bedroom he’s able to watch everything they do. When several of his clients’ premises are broken into DCs Beth Mayes and Matt Davis are sent to investigate and they have good reason to believe that Flint may be involved.
‘Stalker’ is an enjoyable crime novel, it has an interesting plot that’s been well thought-out, is easy to read and entertaining. The characters are convincing, there are twists and turns, and I was so keen to find out what was happening that I read it in a day.
Wow! What a great read. This kept me awake until the early hours to finish it. Derek was such a creepy character but made this book a real page turner. I shall certainly be looking out for more of Lisa Stone's books in the future.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books for my ARC.
An enthralling and intriguing story, kept me reading from first page to last! Twists and turns that kept me hooked. Look forward to more books from this author.
Definitely worth reading! Such a creepy character, developed so well, you'll have actual chills, when thinking of him. Very suspenseful! Highly recommend!
Stalker is an amazing, totally addictive read that you will be totally hooked as I was, in the story we have Derek who installes CCTV for a living but he choices where to installed his equipment and it has to the right family, I absolutely loved every minute of this book, I loved Lisa stones first book Darkness within, her books are totally captivating and hopes she writes lots more.
Meet derek who installs CCTV for a living. But he's not your average installer. He picks and chooses who gets it, he then watches the families from home. Sounds great, think a bit of us all would love to spy on someone in this way. He has some amazing set up at home watching many different families at once. But you just know life cannot go on like this. What happens if he gets caught? Will one of the families find out and come after him? You will have to read on and see. The storyline was great. It was very quick paced and kept my interest from the beginning. I lost interest in the last few chapters as i felt it dragged on a bit once Derek was with the lads from watching you. Felt a lot was not needed. So I skimmed the book at this bit. Shame because this was the only reason it lost a star.
Oh my what a great read!
Derek is the kind of character that would really freak me out in real life and he was portrayed very well. The book is a great and interesting read
I received an advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review. This one started out so good but it went left and became something entirely different than what the description let me to expect – a psychological thriller and more crime drama with police procedural . Might be some peoples proverbial poverty but not mine.
Derek Cable has his own security company. Unbeknownst to his clients he is secretly watching them and they have no idea he is nor that there is also audio. When he see trouble in the screens he sends an alert their email, then he sits back and watches it unfold. Sometimes it's tragic. Derek employs a partner to work with him on a temporary basis, only Paul did not know that and blackmails him. There is more than meets the eye cause Paul has been watching Derek and it's a whole new ballgame. With all the crimes happening around Derek's CCTV households, soon the police get involved and it's Derek that will have to prove his innocence in these crimes before it's too late.
This book shows you that this could be a true story, when we bring the internet into the fold. Anything can happen, just ask Derek. Moral to the story: someone is watching you.....
I highly recommend this book, it has non stop drama, thrills, twists, and turns.
Well written with shady characters.
Thank you Net Gallery and Avon Books.
I would enjoy more books by Lisa Stone. Her writing kept my attention, I like that in books.
Cherie'
Derek Flint ran his own business called Home Security. Although he was a one man band he did take on apprentices to help from time to time but never kept them for very long. He prided himself on his work, looking out for his customers, but the way he did that was not really what you would expect. After fitting the security cameras for them he loved nothing more than to sit for hours watching them on his own monitors at home. As he got to know their routines they felt like friends to him.
Then things started going wrong. Crimes were being committed in houses and businesses where he'd fitted the camera's. As the crimes were getting more vicious DC Beth Mayes and DC Matt Davis were trying to find a connection. Their only clue was that Derek had worked at each of the premises. Is he really the one doing the crimes?
Although I had my suspicions who was behind it all quite early on I wanted to race through it to see if I was right. What I didn't expect was it to become quite so dark. This is a great read and one I would highly recommend. It gets five stars from me
I received this ARC copy via NetGalley
