I knew I would enjoy this book because I like the way Rachel Abbott writes. Her stories are always carefully and tightly plotted and she ratchets up the tension with sadistic menace. I particularly liked the two stories running side by side, not knowing who the woman in the kitchen was but trying to second guess - almost impossible with Rachel Abbott’s stories. I read this in almost one sitting and have the bags under my eyes to prove it - but it was so worth it. Looking forward to the next one.

I always look forward to a new Tom Douglas book, and this didn't disappoint.
A woman is waiting in a dark room.
A girl about to be married sees something odd in a snowbound car park.
The body of a young woman is found in a nearby hide.
A girl goes a journey to escape an abusive relationship.
We meet Tom and Becky again, and their team, and find out more of their lives, as they try to make sense of what is happening.
As these seemingly separate stories wind together, there are many twists and red herrings, not to mention the odd shock! And an unexpected ending.
My only problem was that I didn't find the perpetrator believable, hence 4 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and Black Dot Publishing for the opportunity to read this book.

Firstly, many thanks to netgalley, Black Dot Publishing and Rachel Abbott for the opportunity to preview this excellent book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent psychological drama, as I have Rachel Abbott's previous books. Although this is one of a series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone thriller and I would highly recommend for those of you who, like me, love a great crime read.
The story starts with a woman taking her last breath, another woman in an abusive, controlling relationship takes a trip to recuperate and more women sit around a table, silently in a dark kitchen, not speaking. They all have something in common.
The first chapter had me hooked. Another great read from this excellent author.
Publishing date is 15 Feb, but, can be pre-ordered today!

This was an absolutely fantastic psychological crime thriller and one I was hooked on right from the first page .
It’s the 7th book in the DCI Tom Douglas series but can be read as a stand-alone .
My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced E Copy . My review is based entirely on my own honest opinion .

I was very excited to get the chance to read the seventh book in the DCI Tom Doulas series of crime novels. As with the previous books, this is more than a detective crime solving story, it is also a psychological thriller.
A young woman about to get married is a reluctant witness to a mysterious death in a remote area.
Another woman goes on the trip of a lifetime to escape an abusive boyfriend. She is befriended by Thea and her husband who take her under their wing and offer her a refuge when things turn unpleasant on her return home.
Two women sit in a kitchen waiting for the buzzer that runs their lives, afraid to disobey, afraid to refuse the food and drink they are given.
Tom Douglas investigates the death of the woman in the remote bird hide against a background of possibly linked cases and missing women. His personal and professional life become tangled as in previous books as he and his team look to solve these links and find the missing women.
I thought the book slow and a little confusing with all the different narratives to start with (which is why it’s a 4 rather than a five) but it soon picked pace and I couldn’t put it down! The ending was a bit of a surprise which was good !
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for a review copy of the book.

I started this book and couldn’t put it down. Rachel Abbott is one of my favourite writers and I always look forward to reading her books. DCI Tom Douglas is also one of my favourite detectives and somehow always seems to find an answer to the most complex cases.

I enjoyed this book, its brilliantly written and had a great pace. The main characters were believable and I really enjoyed the plot. With a shocker of an ending this is just the type of book I enjoy the most.
Come a Little Closer is part of a series of books by Rachel Abbott that I have not read previously and I don't feel that I missed out reading this one without the earlier books.
I would most definitely recommend this book to people who enjoy a psychological crime thriller with interesting and believable characters and an engrossing storyline that just flows and is a pleasure to read.
Thank you

I'm well known for my love of Rachel Abbott's books and felt a little pressure whether this would be as good as her previous stories. I needn't have worried though - In fact, I think this was possibly the best. Completely gripping from very early on - Reminded me somewhat of reading 'Room'. Just incredible writing how everything comes together with some unexpected twists and turns.

Another gripping instalment in this now well established series with a typically dark and twisted plot that flows well and is peppered with unexpected twists.

A dark and gripping psychological crime thriller which had me hooked from the first page. It draws you in and you soon realise that all is not what it seems but the full extent of what unfolds is quite beyond belief. The book is number 7 in the DCI Tom Douglas Crime series and in my opinion it is one of the best. I prefer to read books in order but you could quite easily read this as a stand alone as there is just enough background information.

A chilling, dark psychological thriller, that had me gripped from the very start.
Callie fleeing an psychologically abusive relationship, takes a cruise with the money she inherited from her grandfather. During the trip she meets an elderly couple who show her kindness and offer her emotional support. As the story unfolds Callie is thrust into a dark world of mind control, deceit and murder.
This is my first Rachel Abbott book and although it is 7th in the Tom Douglas series, it didn’t feel like I had missed half the series.
I felt that the story moved at a steady pace, not too fast so you became confused and not so slow you became bored. As the story unfolded, I started to predict some of the twists, I didn’t see this as I bad thing though, I felt that it meant I was totally absorbed in the story and the characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I will definitely be recommending and look forward to reading the previous 6 books in the DCI Tom Douglas series.

I love the DCI Tom Douglas books and kept this one back to read on my holiday. While all of the books have been brilliants this one left me a little confused. I finished the book still asking myself why to some unspoken words and this was not what I normally get from this series.
This book is face paced and as always I love the character DCI Douglas, this is just as good as a stand alone book which I love about the authors writing style.

A young woman goes on holiday--one she's been planning for ages, despite the fact that her boyfriend thinks it's a waste of time and money. Maybe despite what he thinks, because after all he is little better than a time-waster and she has begun to believe that he will never change. While on the holiday, an elderly couple take her under their wings and keep her from obsessing about life back home, but what's in it for them? And who is the mysterious man who seems to be watching her every move?
"Come a Little Closer" is another novel featuring DCI Tom Douglas, but it works as a stand-alone quite well. The tension and suspense are fraught within the story, and it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. Highly recommended.

Omg I am left utterly speechless after reading Come a little Closer, what a brilliant psychological thriller, I was utterly addicted, and couldn't put my kindle down and what an unbelievable ending!! Just brilliant.

Come a Little Closer is the 7th book in the DCI Tom Douglas series. It gives enough background where this can be read as a stand-alone.
The story has multiple narratives so it can get confusing. A woman is alone in a parking lot at night when a car silently drives in with no lights on. Two woman sit silently at a table. Another woman breaks up with her boyfriend and goes on a cruise.
DCI Tom Douglas is called to a scene where a woman looks like she died peacefully. But who is she?
This was another great book in the series. Complex with lots of lies and deceit and a surprise ending. It was well written with great character development. I highly recommend reading this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Black Dot Publishing for supplying me a copy of Rachel Abbott's "Come A Little Closer" in exchange for an honest review.

Every time she drinks one she doesn't remember anything but they are so nice.

My name is Callie not Judith.....So who is Judith?
WoW, what a book........Does Rachel ever write a bad book. I just loved this book.
OMG 😱 what a ending! This book will have you hooked from page 1. Well Done Rachel
5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Review from me. Thank you for letting me read and review it. x

This is Rachel Abbott at her best! What an amazing book it was creepy, dark and downright scary. I had a hard job putting this down it was a real page Turner. The plot was full of clever twists that I didn't see coming. This was a really great read well deserving of 5 stars.

I’ve loved all of Abbott’s novels so far, so leapt at the chance to read this one. Unfortunately, it didn’t hold up as well as the previous ones.
The pace of the novel was very slow - almost meandering - it certainly wasn’t “tense”. Whilst I still cared about the storylines of Tom and Becky, the actual plot itself just didn’t grab me or hold me in the slightest, and became an effort to read eventually.
