I went into this book a bit blind, but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved Chase and Zoe's relationship, but I had a bit of a hard time connecting with Zoe but I adored her family.
I did enjoy this book and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to read a sweet famous person/regular person romance. Also, be aware that this is a 'clean' romance.
Bonus points for the Jeopardy references.
I requested this one back in the day as I had every intention of reading it. However, its been years and I still haven't gotten around to it and while I feel guilty at not reviewing a book I think that I need to admit to myself that I won't be reading this one anytime soon....if at all.
4.5
I had no idea what to expect from this book but still was looking forward to read it because of the set up with a movie star romance.
I definitely didn't expect the book to totally sweep me off my feet. Yes, the book is full of clishées but still I absolutely loved and was totally hooked in Chase and Zoe's romance.
It was totally cute how the two met and started debating and chatting over Twitter. The short messages were really entertaining. The dates between them were really cute and I really liked that the relationship was starting to develop slowly.
Zoe and Chase were absolutely lovely characters. Zoe is a bit of a nerd but still a woman who is standing with both her feets on the ground. Despite all the fame also Chase was still a more or less normal person and I loved how he treated and respected Zoe and her decisions.
The drama could be expected but still it was handled quite well and I was totally feeling with Zoe and Chase.
This book took me totally by surprise and I really want to read the other book in this series.
I ADORED this book!! another winner from Sariah Wilson!! So funny and sweet!! She has so many great quips and lines - this book is worth it just for the laughs, and the romance is AMAZING! I loved the characters and their witty sense of humor, but I particularly appreciated Zoe's reasoning about premarital sex and Chase's response. I'd rate this PG, possibly PG-13 because of how intense the kisses could be, but it was sweet and clean.
This waa a very cute stoey, definitely fanfic-like, but in the best way. It was a bit predictable, but not in ways that kept it from being enjoyable.
Zoe was neurotic, but in a believble way. Chase was a good guy and very likeble. The chemistry was great and they were fun together.
There were so many funny and tongue-in-cheek things here. The dialogue was very witty!. I loved the banter and turns of phrase. Sariah Wilson has a fantastic way with words and voice.
4.5 stars — Oh you guys…I am so torn on my rating for this one. Because the things I loved about this book are like 6+ stars OMG! Buuuutttt…there were a few things that just kept it from perfect. So do I rate 4.5 rounded down? Straight 4? 4.25? Whatever’s at the front of this review surprises me as much as you.
So what did I LOVE???? OMG, the banter. The one liners. The quips. And not just between Zoe and Chase, but present in all interactions! I highlighted more than is reasonable, b/c I laughed way more than I expected to. They were just little moments, but they delighted me to no end.
And then there was the genuine chemistry between Zoe and Chase. Like SWOON city! When they were together and connecting, from friends and flirtations to more, I was totally invested. I felt their connection to my bones. They just were so cute together, they made my romantic heart SO HAPPY.
And in general I loved them both as individuals as well. It’s all in Zoe’s POV, but I still felt like I got an understanding of who Chase was. And he was pretty adorable for the most part. I loved that there was depth to him, and a history that helped explain who he was both in the past and how that past shaped who he is now. I loved that he unashamedly went to see a therapist, that was so mental health positive. And while the story didn’t dive into too much about the realities of addiction, it wasn’t completely a throwaway either. (though if you’re looking for a great story about an addict, this isn’t it)
And I could relate to Zoe as well. I know how it feels to feel like you’re the less pretty one of your friends…to have insecurities that colour all of your interactions. She’s probably not a heroine that everyone is going to love, but I connected with her on some levels for sure.
I will admit that the celibacy thing caught me offguard, and reminded me A LOT of V is for Virgin. Like, a lot. I was worried at the first mention that there was going to be an air of superiority to her and her decisions. But throughout the book you really come to understand that it’s a personal decision for her, and that she’s not judging others for making other decisions. I appreciated that.
I also worried that her extreme level of fangirling over Chase was going to make me not believe in their eventual relationship. And while that rode the line a LOT (because of her continuing to feel unworthy of him), it was more balanced than I expected. And I truly believed that in the end she loved him for the man she got to know.
What didn’t work for me was the way her insecurities manifested themselves in their relationship. I was bummed about the way she went off the deep end believing tabloid stuff. In some ways it just didn’t fit for me. And especially in light of conversations. I thought she got let off easy about that stuff, whereas he had to make the big gesture in the end.
I’m also just not a fan of misunderstandings becoming the conflict. I mean, sometimes I’m okay with them, and honestly this one was only so-so on the bugging me aspect, but I feel like it’s overused and cliche, if that makes sense.
Those were basically the little niggles I had. They were balanced off with a really fabulous secondary cast, from an obsessed best friend who was over the top but still believable, and her swoony boyfriend (who still made mistakes), to Zoe’s ridiculously adorable younger siblings and family. I loved that they were realistically children (whiny and stuff), but a delight all the same. I mean Zia…just, Zia.
So yeah. I think in the end I’m going to bump this one up to 4.5 rounded down, because I cannot stress how much I enjoyed the bantering in this one. It just made me so happy, and the romance gave me tummy tingles and smiles and sighs. Always a good sign.
I have to begin by admitting that I have literally been counting down days until this book came out. And it met every expectation plus more. I simply couldn't put it down, which may or may not account for the loss of sleep I am experiencing right now after reading it in one day. I absolutely loved it!
Our main character, Zoe, is a quirky introvert, but very relatable. I mean, who hasn't had a crush on a celebrity? I thought she was funny and smart, and I loved reading from her point of view. And don't get me started on Chase- definitely a perfect swoon-worthy hero. I enjoyed their romance and how they began with social media. I also loved how every chapter started with a tweet.
I seriously can't say enough good things about this book!! Definitely a new favorite!
I was so, so excited to read #Starstruck by Sariah Wilson. The premise of a fan interacting with her favorite movie star on Twitter, and that interaction subsequently leading to a romance, is all of my catnips. I love private lives vs public selves stories.
Unfortunately this book suffers from underdeveloped heroine, an offensive remark about homosexuality, a very misleading message about being sexually active and a poor understanding of feminism. The book pissed me off.
Rant ahead. Gird your loins.
Here’s the premise:
Zoe Miller is a college senior and a superfan of movie-star Chase Covington (who I think was loosely based on Chris Evans). Zoe and her best friend and roommate Lexi have been fans of Chase’s for years (think middle school), and their membership into the Chase Covington fandom (dubbed the Chasers) is something they’ve bonded over. One day, Chase sends out a tweet asking his fans how they liked his latest film. Zoe replies, honestly, that it wasn’t his best work and Chase replies.
At first Zoe thinks this is just a fluke and that she’s talking to Chase’s publicist or assistant, but the tweets keep coming. He follows her. The tweets get flirty. Then Lexi manages to score them roles as extras in Chase’s latest film where Chase meets Zoe in person, and romance ensues. At first Zoe has a hard time believing Chase really has feelings for her because she ascribes to the “poor little nobody” trope popular among some contemporary heroines. Zoe doesn’t think she’s especially interesting or pretty, and when she tells Chase she intends to stay celibate until marriage she’s willing to bet he’ll run away, just like the guys she’s dated before.
Sariah Wilson is an amazing story teller and she made it up to my list of authors where I immediately purchase her book without even knowing what the story is about.
She guarantees to make you swoon. :)
This was my first book of Sarah Wilson. While the first part of the book was interesting, it then became very sweet YA read. don't get me wrong I love ya, but when Zoe best friend is gaga for Chase the main hero celebrity I rolled my eyes hard. I had to skim the last few chapters. It's just it seemed too simple/predictable. The writing was good though and Bailey Carr did an amazing narration.
Zoe had tweeted her thoughts that her favorite actor Chase Covington-was a little flat in his last role. She soon found out she was the only one that felt that way and started getting hate tweets by other fangirls when she went to delete the tweet chase had tweeted her back. He had ten million followers, Zoe wondered how he had seen her tweet so quickly and answered back so fast. Chase did tweet pretty regular and tried to engage with his fanbase. Chase was an extremely talented actor and easily one of the best in Hollywood and he had been in the business since the age of four years old. At twenty five he had an Academy Award under his belt. He would never let anyone pigeonhole him, he even now he played rom-coms, moody historicals, and indie dramas. The story of Zoe’s life - to get all excited over something that turned out to be absolutely nothing. Zoe was a senior in college earning an accounting degree. Zoe had turned her phone off while working on her paper at the library when she turned it back on she saw she had about thirty texts from her roommate and best friend Lexi. She was a theater major and was prone to dramatics. Lexi was the reason Zoe had become a big fan of Chase Covington in the first place. Zoe had been homeschooled by her Amish grandparents until her mother came back into her life and took Zoe with her. The first thing she did was put Zoe in a public school. Zoe was twelve years old and didn’t know how to make friends. Lexi had come to her rescue. She had went up to Zoe and asked her if she loved Chase Covington. Zoe would agree to anything to have a friend. Lexi was still pretty much Zoe’s only friend ten years later. Lexi and Zoe were the definition of opposites attract. Zoe had babysat for a rich woman who paid her extremely well since she was sixteen. She had just talked to her to find out they were moving away Saturday. Zow was out of a job that paid for her rent and food. Zoe and Chase actually met. He was intrigued with someone who was totally honest with him and was herself. No one had ever disagreed with Chase. Also everyone wanted something from him even his own mother. Zoe could not believe she was dating Chase. First it started out as just friends but had since grown to more. Zoe had decided to save herself until she married and told Chase that. Chase tweets and words say one thing but his actions say another. He hadn’t even kissed her yet. Zoe had not yet told lexi that she was dating Chase. Zoe was glad she signed a NDA as she could not tell anyone she was dating Chase. Than Zoe and Chase’s secret relationship is leaked to the press and she is losing Chase as well as her best friend Lexi. She is alone and how could something so great cause so much pain and anguish as Chase didn’t believe Zoe didn’t leak to the press herself and broke up with her. Zoe is miserable but so is Chase he really loved Zoe and really he knew Zoe wouldn’t do anything to hurt him to use him.
I loved this book. It was a fantastic fun romantic book . I have a new favorite romance even if it was an older book. I loved the dates Chase planned for him and Zoe. I loved the ending of this book. I loved that Chase respected Zoe’s decision to be a virgin when she married. My attention was grabbed at the beginning of this book and stayed until the ending. I didn’t want to put this down. I liked the regular build of Chase and Zoe’s relationship. I liked it wasn’t all peaches and cream for them more realistic. I loved where Zoe was at a point where she was willing to forego her morals and Chase stopped things. I loved Zoe’s family. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.
An adorable book about young love. A lovely romance about an introverted girl who meets her Hollywood idol and falls in love.
I honestly loved this book! I just couldn't get enough of the celebrity-fan romance. There were points that were a bit off-putting to me, but nothing that took away from my enjoyment of the book. I really want to get into the sequel now!
The main character is celibate so I highly recommend it if you're looking for the tension, but not the descriptions.
Zoe Miller posts a sassy tweet to her celebrity crush, and not only does he respond, he wants to meet her. After a history with women that makes Chase Covington be cautious with women, he finds himself drawn to Zoe. The two have amazing chemistry, but don't want the pressure of Hollywood to interfere in their lives. This was a charming read, with great character development.
Have you ever dreamed about that movie/musical/sports star sweeping into your life and sweeping you off your feet? Starstruck is that story. It’s every girl’s fantasy poured onto a page. It’s the story of Zoe, a college student, and of Chase, the heartthrob actor who falls for her. This was a deliciously self-indulgent story about love, secrets, and celebrity.
Zoe’s family are adorable, especially her baby sister Zia, and I treasured Zoe’s best friend for being kickass and funny in her own right. I also loved that Zoe had boundaries around sex that Chase respected - too often, the girl is a virgin who hasn’t met the right guy (who inevitably isn’t a virgin, btw), and it’s up to him to coax her into it. I found this particular plot point refreshingly different.
I did find the storyline a bit predictable, however, and the middle portion drags a bit as Zoe faces the same conflict again and again. While her flaws make her real, her stubbornness left me exasperated. I reckon some of that could’ve been cut without affecting the climax of the book.
Otherwise, it was an enjoyable read that left me happy and wanting just a little bit more.
Four stars.
I LOVED this book! I couldn't put it down, as much love for this as #starstruck! I fell in love with the characters and loved the angst that was between them. I want to go read it again!
Oh Sariah Wilson, you hit another home run. Loved this book. Perhaps I didn't say that correctly. LOVED THIS BOOK! #happydance
I really enjoyed reading Starstruck by Sarah Wilson! It was cute, sweet, and a very modern read as one of Chase. Covington’s fan, Zoe Miller evolves from fan girl, to his assistant, to his best friend, to his everything by way of a simple Tweet. I loved the way these two interacted in this well-paced novel where these two were in a perpetual search for belonging that somehow led them to each other.
This story is not without slight twist and turns as Zoe navigates classes, internships, and life and Chase deals with his celebrity and all the drama that it brings. There is nothing hot and steamy about this read, but just a plain sweet love story between two main characters with the cutest chemistry. I absolutely enjoyed this one and give Starstruck by Sarah Wilson 5-stars and recommend that you run and read this one!
This was a nice read. For once, the relationship didn’t centre around sex or passion. It was about getting to know someone without the intimacy, actually having a conversation. The little questions that should be asked. It makes a nice change to have a clean romance.
It was well written, I liked the text message and tweet format in parts and at the start of each chapter. It was the modern day equivalent of a love letter. The banter between Zoe and Chase was great, it made me think of how me and my husband(!!!!) act around each other. I will definitely be looking for other books by this author in the future.
I liked Zoe, and I most definitely liked Chase. He was fun, considerate, caring and good looking. Zoe was the sort of person I’d be friends with, she was full of useless trivia, she was witty and believed completely in her choices. Her commitment to her family was amazing, and her commitment to her… Let’s say beliefs, was a good change of pace. She didn’t change as soon as she met Chase like some girls in other books I have read. She was determined to stick to her life choice. Which she did, with an extreme amount of temptation.
I gave this book 4 out of 5. It missed a little spark, but other than that it was a good read!!
5 stars
Synopsis: Zoe and her best friend since Junior High, Lexi, bonded when Lexi allowed Zoe to share her celebrity crush on Chase Covington with her. Their friendship is still strong, as is their crush, although they are in college now. One day, Zoe responds honestly to a tweet on Chase's account asking what everyone thought of his latest movie, and tells him that he's done better. Chase tweets her back, and even though Zoe doesn't think that it is the real Chase talking to her, but one of his assistants, she responds.
Then Lexi, who wants to be an actress, meets a station manager who gets her in to a surprise interview with Chase, who in turn invites Lexi and Zoe to be extras in a new movie that he is shooting. When Zoe actually meets Chase, she realizes that it was actually Chase Covington who was tweeting her. Then she accidentally hurts Chase's PA, and since she just lost her part time job, she agrees to take his place, working around her school and internship schedule.
Chase and Zoe get closer, until they decide to act on their attraction and to try dating. They both agree to keep it quiet, and Zoe uses that as an excuse to not tell Lexi or her mother. But secrets like that can't be kept forever, and the bubble that they are living in might make a mess when it breaks.
What I liked: how the relationship built slowly and organically. Zoe didn't go all gaga for the guy and completely throw over school and her work because she was in love, and Chase understood that. He also respected her determination to remain chaste until she got married. Although Zoe was strong in her schooling and career goals, she was more wavering in her dealings with her family and her friends, which made her seem more like a real person, as opposed to a perfect paragon. The secondary characters, especially Zoe's siblings, were fully realized and contributed to the story.
What I didn't like: how Zoe kept her relationship with Chase from Lexi, the person who knew everything about her, and who had shared everything with her since they were teenagers. I also didn't really like how Zoe never really talked to her mother to find out more about her life, just went on with Zoe's childhood-tainted view.
Overall impression: this was my first read by this author, and I absolutely loved this book. This was amusing, with character growth, and fully realized (although highly romanticized) characters. I recommend this for anyone who likes amusing, well written stories and characters.
