Older the better is a romance between two males
Charles was 19 when he met and fell in love with his best friends day who was in his 30’s, Malcolm. They started an affair but shortly after Malcolm ended it and Charles moved away.
Years later Charles arrives back to his hometown hoping to be with the only man he has ever loved.
I thought this was a quick cute read, it obviously isn’t the best romance but I could feel the chemistry between Charles and Malcom.
Older the Better is an age gap romance that isn't likable, romantic or loving.
Charles was a 19 year old guy who fell in love with his friend's father, who happened to be 39. They had a few months of bliss then Malcolm dumped Charles and Charles moved away shortly after. Now, years later, Charles is going back with Todd so Todd can connect with his father. Charles doesn't want to see the man who dumped him without an explanation, but he does want answers. Since Charles moved away from Malcolm, his life has been filled with meaningless encounters and a sugar daddy situation with a much older, wealthier man, Andrei, who is in love with him even though Charles does not reciprocate Andrei's feelings.
When Charles and Todd arrive at Malcolm's home, it's as if Charles never left, as far as his feelings are concerned. But, Malcolm is cold and determined to ignore the younger man. What follows is a graceless reunion where Charles has to force his way back into Malcolm's bed and his life, without thought of what the local townspeople and Charles' own father will say. I found myself cringing throughout this book. Neither Charles or Malcolm is particularly likable, and their chemistry isn't as strong as I had been hoping for. Because I didn't like either of the two leads, I couldn't bring myself to care about their story. I had been hoping for a really steamy, well-rounded, fleshed-out romance, but what I got was a boring, cringeworthy tale with two unlikable leads. 2 stars for this one unfortunately.
