The Schemer is the fun and addictive tale of Everly and Tyler. Two people who managed to make it across the tracks.

Everly is a proud woman. She cares for her ill grandmother and has worked her butt off for what she has. Tyler pulled himself from a bad household and went on to become something. He carries some baggage with him, baggage that is tightly packed and hard to unload. The two are explosive with chemistry.

A small part of The Schemer is another romance, involving Helene, the mother of Tyler's friends who we've met in previous books. I was a bit disappointed to see her get a slice of this novel, as she could have easily filled a book herself. Nevertheless, I was excited to see another couple, at such a different point in their lives, falling at the same time as Tyler and Everly. At times, I was thinking about reading ahead to see where Helene was.

Overall, I loved The Schemer. It was fun, engaging and unexpected. The Schemer has a developed plot and was written well. It paced evenly, but an overall quick read. It is the third in a series, but a complete standalone. Its fun to have read the previous books, but not a requirement. I would recommend to the reader looking for a fast, sexy, read.

When I didn’t think Avery Flynn could do better than The Negotiator and The Charmer, she brings us The Schemer. Unbelievable! The Schemer was everything that I hoped it would be. I was so sorry to see it end but was really happy with the surprise. You couldn’t have shocked me more.

Tyler and Everly were hysterical throughout this story. Too bad she didn’t hide who she was or where she came from since that was Tyler’s goal in life. He needs to show everyone that he is bigger and better than being from a dysfunctional family on the other side of the tracks. He’s been hurt in the past and will never give his heart away again. So, having some fun with Everly will be the perfect solution since neither one of them are looking for a relationship. But, being the schemer that he is, he is going to have to come up with a big one to get Everly to help him and to get her into his bed.

Everly has been nothing but annoyed with her scheming downstairs neighbor. Taking her parking space, burning everything that he puts on the stove and flipping that damn quarter … there is only so much she can take before she ends up in his bed. But, when she finds out the truth about him, she’s had enough. Then, why does she defend him and his honor when he is being dissed by that bitch engaged to Carlo? Why does what his thinks matter to her?

These two had me laughing out loud. I was literally waiting to see what they were gong to do next. From the Harley to the Raccoon to the cooking classes, I was smiling to the point my cheeks hurt. I was thrilled that the Carlyle’s were all back. Now, who they were supporting throughout this story is still unclear. And, in the end, the biggest schemer of them all, Helene, got exactly what she was hoping to get … and a little more. But, this time she had an accomplice to her matchmaking that was definitely an asset.

So, from the art gallery to the boardroom, Tyler and Everly stole my heart. I’ve always thought that, without good secondary characters, we would just have dialogue between two people and that would be really boring. The ones that Avery Flynn brought into the story both influenced and supported Tyler and Everly and were insightful and funny. I honestly love The Harbor City series and hope that it, somehow, continues. It’s light, funny, sexy and just downright fabulous.

The Schemer brings one of my favorite romance tropes, Enemies to Lovers. Everly and Tyler are a perfect pair but seeing that through the cloud of sass, snark and bickering makes it hard to see. These two will make you laugh until you cry. The comebacks between Everly and Tyler are priceless! I so enjoyed the cooking classes and there is a pretty good grovel. A secondary romance falls happens within the pages of The Schemer that just puts a big smile on my face. Tyler and Everly are an awesome couple and I very much enjoyed seeing them get to their happy place.

Avery Flynn always amazes me with her combination of sexy and funny that always delivers an amazing story that will entertain readers from beginning to end. The Schemer is everything I love of Ms. Flynn work and then some. The Schemer is the third book of the Harbor City Series and could be read as a stand alone, however reading the previous books will enhance The Schemer.

Between 3 1/2 and 4 Stars

I really enjoyed this one! First time reading Flynn, but I'll be looking for more of her books in the future.

This was a fun read. Quite hot, a lot of building tension before the full heat kicks in. Some good banter and a bit of the "I shouldn't want you and kinda hate you but dammit I cannot stop thinking about your body, dammit!" going on.

I don't really have anything to complain about, but the 3 1/2 is the simple fact that while I had a good time with this one, I was a bit underwhelmed in the end, you know? Still, this book gets allllll the thumbs up just for the fact that both the hero AND heroine masturbate on page. BLESS YOU, Avery Flynn, bless you. We need more female masturbation scenes in romancelandia, please and thank you.

Tyler and Everly rub each other the wrong way....or do they? Avery Flynn has once again succeeded in writing a wonderfully funny and hot romantic story! More please!

This is another Avery Flynn magical read!
Third book in the Harbor City series, and it’s funny and sexy!
Follows Tyler Jacobsen is an up and coming business man trying to hide his blue collar roots. After mistakenly stumbling into Everly Ribinski of apartment 3B their fun really begins.
Great banter and muchos tension set this story apart from the rest.
A great opposites attract novel
I hadn't previously read the other books in this series, so it can definetly be read alone.

This is a fun, flirty, passionate book! Everly and Tyler are such great characters – I would love to have Everly’s moxie! She knows who she is, where she’s from, and offers no apologies! Tyler tries everyday to forget where he’s from, working hard to become ‘one of the important people’.

Everly and Tyler start off trying to one-up the other in the ‘scheming’ department and these are so funny! You’ll be giggling at their tricks they use on each other! And keep your eyes open for the ‘coin flip’!

This is a great story with characters you care about and want what’s best for them. Such fun, feels and emotions, passion, heartache, truth, and so much more. Do yourself a favor and read The Schemer – you won’t be disappointed.

Tyler Jacobson always has a plan. He’s worked hard to leave his working class past behind and climb his way up the social ladder to become a successful businessman as well as be a part of the social elite. He’s a pro at reading and manipulating people to get the outcome he wants . . . until he meets his new neighbor Everly Ribinski. She may be gorgeous and sexy, but he finds her as irritating as she finds him . . . and, besides, she’s not the kind of woman he needs to cement his place in society.

Everly Ribinski may be from a working class neighborhood, but she has worked hard to get where she is and she’s darn proud of it. Family and friends mean everything to her and she loves and defends those closest to her fiercely. Tyler Jacobson is neither friend nor family. He’s really everything in a man she’s always been warned against her entire life . . . .someone pretending to be something he isn’t. So, when he needs help to seal the deal on a business opportunity with her mentor, she’s not a willing participant.

They’ve been annoying and irritating each other for months now, but it’s kind of been like foreplay and now the sparks are flying even if their endgames are not the same. They are definitely not each other’s types . . .so why do they seem to want to be around each other so much? Good thing they are only hanging out while things stay fun, right?

The Schemer was my first Avery Flynn book and I have to say I loved it! These characters were really complex. While both Everly and Tyler came from working class neighborhoods, they’ve both taken their lives in truly opposite directions. Tyler hides his past completely while Everly is proud of what she has accomplished and doesn’t care if society looks down on her roots. Together, this couple is magic. They are both such strong individuals but also have their kryptonite. They fulfill a need in one another if they can only give in to it.

While Everly and Tyler’s relationship is developing, so is Helene Carlyle and Alberto Ferranti’s. Helene is the queen of Harbor City society and Alberto Ferranti is an Italian hotel magnate. Both widows, Alberto uses his romantic view of the world to convince Helene that it’s okay to move on and love again when she is ready too. These two individuals are also an opposites attract love story that really stole the show in many ways . . . I loved this subplot so much!

This book has great banter between characters, smoking hot scenes, a scheming ex fiance, and some very stubborn characters. It makes for a fantastic story that keeps readers entertained and on their toes as you are hoping that not only one, but two couples find their happy ever afters. 4.5 stars!

This is the first book I have read by this author.. but I really did enjoy the story and look forward to finding more treasures like this from her. I would give this book a 4 stars and recommend to others for sure.

2 people from the “wrong” side of the tracks find themselves neighbors.. 1 determined to prove his worth and that he can be on the “right” side and to show everyone he is worth more than being a blue collar. Then you have Everly who sticks to her roots but has found her passion for art brought her to where she is now.. can 2 people that believe they are so wrong for each other become sooo right??

This is rom-com and u dont want to miss it! Get to one clicking now!

Tyler is a "schemer". He has plans that he believes will allow him to fit in a high society. All of that gets shot out the window when he meets his new neighbor and art gallery tenant, Everly.

Everly reminds him of the past that he is so desperately trying to leave behind and forget. And yet, he is drawn to her. He tries to fight it but the attraction is so intense.

Everly has no trouble in being herself and doesn't understand why Tyler is trying to act and be above where he came from. They try to avoid each other as much as possible except Everly has the connection that Tyler needs.

Can they work together without killing each other or more... falling in love.

This is the third book in this series by this author. Another fantastic story from this talented author. This is a very good romantic read which has some added funny moments. This book can be read as a stand alone read or as part of the series. The characters are amazing, very well written. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

Highly recommended series

I'm always a fan of a good rom-com with a hate-to-love plot and THE SCHEMER had this in spades! As soon as I read the description I was intrigued and I immediately wanted a copy in my hands! I loved the idea of the neighbours that don't get along, who then have a fake date that turns into more where they don't want to catch feelings...so many great things packed into one book and you know what, Avery Flynn completely delivered and she delivered it very, very well! I thought that THE SCHEMER was fantastic!

Tyler and Everly were amazing characters! They were both intelligent and had a tendency to scheme, which I loved! It was so interesting to see how their brains worked as they tried to outsmart and outmaneuver each other, and I loved that they both found the other to be a bit unpredictable, but that they could also read each other fairly well. It was an interesting dichotomy that worked extremely well with the two characters. It worked even better because we got to see both of their POVs so we knew what each of them didn't know. ;)

Overall, I thought that THE SCHEMER was fantastic! I absolutely loved the characters, and the story was wonderful! I thought that the romance was both sweet and super sexy, and I couldn't get enough of it! I can't wait to go back and read more of Avery Flynn's books now because I thought this one was fabulous! I'd recommend THE SCHEMER to anyone looking for a rom-com that will leave them laughing, smiling, and possibly even blushing at times (depends how easily you blush ;P)! You can read THE SCHEMER in chronological order as part of the Harbor City series, or on its own. I read it without having read the first two books and I wasn't lost at all. ;)

4.5 stars
Being the third book in this series I was excited to read about Tyler Jacobsen
He’s rich, gorgeous and determined!
Everly has moved into his building and what eventuates when these two meet is nothing short of sizzling! I swear you could feel the buzz from the words spoken or felt by the characters!
I really enjoyed the banter, the innuendo’s, the friendships in the story too!
I also kinda liked Frankie, he wouldn’t hesitate to tell it like it is, in regards to Tyler! Brutally direct and helpful when Tyler faces certain dilemmas! I really wanted to tell Tyler to snap out of his funk and I really loved how Everly was! Her sass, her nunni, and her General don’t hurt those I love attitude was fantastic!
I just loved the storyline, the fact that we also get to see how Sawyer and Hudson are doing is great!
A story that will make you appreciate that your past doesn’t have to define your future, your past makes you who you are today and that’s all I will say on that!
A story of love and wonderful friendships!

Tyler Jacobson is a self-made multi-millionaire from the wrong side of the tracks. Growing up in poverty in the wrong part of town, Tyler made it his mission to do so well in life that nobody would ever question his judgment. Now a big-name real estate developer, Tyler’s newest goal is to lend his services to Italian hotelier Alberto Ferranti. The trick? Actually getting a meeting with him.

Enter Everly Ribinski, a tenant in one of Tyler’s buildings and the most annoying woman he’s ever met. Everly is everything that Tyler wants to forget about his childhood -- unpolished, brash, and quick-tempered -- but she’s also one of the sexiest women he’s ever met. Tyler’s instantly attracted to Everly despite knowing that she’s entirely wrong for him. But when Tyler finds out that Everly has a connection to Alberto, can he convince her to play nice and get him the meeting he so desperately needs?

So, I didn’t realize that this was book three in a series when I initially requested it on Netgalley, but it’s okay because there’s no prior knowledge of the series required to have a good time. All of the characters from past books are introduced and THANK GOODNESS because usually I’m good about checking for this stuff, so I don’t know what happened here!

The book was fine. It’s my first by Avery Flynn and while I enjoyed her writing style, I don’t think that this story was the ideal introduction to her work. The characters were pretty frustrating -- both of them are wrapped up in their childhood drama (and trauma) and get into petty arguments or just flat-out refuse to hear what the other is saying. I’m not really into books about grown adults that act like preteens, but I was also in kind of a bad mood when I read this, so take that with a grain of salt. I’m not going to be too harsh in my rating because even I can objectively say that I typically would have enjoyed this kind of book more than this.

Even though I didn’t love this book, I think it would be fun to go back and read the first two books in this series. I’ll add them to my eighteen-mile-long TBR.

Final rating: ★★★☆☆

I received a free copy of The Schemer from the publisher (via Netgalley) in exchange for my honest review.

3.75 stars--THE SCHEMER is the third instalment in Avery Flynn’s contemporary, adult HARBOR CITY romance series. This is real estate developer Tyler Jacobson, and art curator Everly Ribinski’s story line. THE SCHEMER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Tyler Jacobson is the one-time best friend and nemesis of Sawyer Carlyle-THE NEGOTIATOR.

Told from several third person perspectives including Tyler and Everly THE SCHEMER follows the acrimonious relationship between real-estate developer Tyler Jacobson, and art curator Everly Ribinski. Everly has just moved into an upscale apartment to be closer to her beloved grandmother- Nunni-a woman suffering from age on-set dementia; and within steps of her up and coming Black Heart Art Gallery. Meeting Tyler Jacobson, a fellow tenant, finds our heroine on the receiving end of a seduction she had never intended to carry through. What ensues is the back and forth, one on one, face to face confrontations that pull together two people from the wrong side of town who have made it big in the world of high finance, art and real estate development; and the potential fall out as Tyler struggles with the connections to his past, and the social class where he feels he no longer belongs.

Throughout the story line the reader becomes a little more familiar with the fall-out between Tyler Jacobson and Sawyer Carlyle as Tyler’s ex-fiance renews a smear campaign against the man she destroyed years before. Everly refuses to allow Irena to continue her attacks against the man with whom she (Everly) is falling in love but sometimes remaining calm is the best defense against an embittered offense. Tyler carries a self-imposed burden and chip on his shoulder that tends to control everything in his life.

Everly and Tyler’s relationship is a series of sexually palpable confrontations; a one-upmanship of he said/she said sarcastic comments, grounded in a mutual attraction that is pushed ahead by a well-meaning but manipulating woman who wishes to see all of her children find their happily ever after. The $ex scenes are intimate, seductive, passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a side story developing between socialite Helene Carlyle (Tyler and Hudson’s mother) and Italian hotel magnate Alberto Ferranti. Helene never expected to find another love following the death of her beloved husband Michael but meeting Alberto Ferranti stirred something within the Carlyle matriarch-something she long thought buried and gone.

We are introduced to Everly’s best friend and caterer Kiki; Tyler’s ex-fiance Irena; and Alberto’s son Carlo Ferranti. I have not had the chance to read Hudson’s story (The Charmer book two) but I am looking forward to, one day, catching up with Sawyer’s brother.

THE SCHEMER is an intoxicating tale of as one man struggles to move on from his past, and one woman battles between her head and her heart. The premise is playful and edgy; the characters are colorful and impulsive; the romance is spirited and determined.

I loved this book! Was fun, quirky and had some great humor to it. This is the first book I have read in the series and I cannot wait to go back and read the first two books.

This book follows workaholic, up and comer Tyler and the bombshell from the "wrong" side of tracks who made something of herself Everly. Tyler and Everly both had tough childhoods but each overcame them in a different way. Both are wildly attracted to each other and deny it even though they can't seem to help themselves.

I would highly recommend this book. Definitely a fun and fast read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley.

I was soooo excited to get an ARC of this book because I LOVED The Charmer. Much to my dismay, I had issues with Tyler....OK, maybe one. He had a chip on his shoulder as big as the Grand Canyon! Please, Please Everly make him see how lucky he was. It eventually happened, but it wasn't until the end of the book and by this point I was ready to smack the crap out of Tyler. I know you can't love all characters in books, but I was pretty done (literally) when I finished this book.

Many of you may not have a problem with this and I hope you don't. The writing is wonderful (just like The Charmer) as is the editing (I'm really into editing!). I just couldn't get past Tyler's chip. I'll still be looking forward to Avery Flynn's novels!!!

The schemer is a story with a little bit of something that will appear to almost any reader. Tyler and Everly are each by themselves really interesting and fun characters. He is a consultant who came from "the wrong side of the tracks" and is trying to leave that side of himself completely behind. She is an art gallery owner who had a humble beginning but has a scrappy attitude taht lets the chips fall. I love when she gets upset and gets a little snarky.

I laughed my way through this story and can't wait for more from Ms. Flynn.
