The Schemer by Avery Flynn is sexy, snarky romance with hot banter that’s captivating and emotionally charged. Seriously readers, Avery writes poetic smoldering hot romance that brings us strong heroines who we instantly love despite the hurdles they must overcome.
Everly and Tyler will discover if they can mix business with pleasure and how far they will go to score the ultimate prize, love.
This is one book adventure where you will find yourself rooting for the hero, heroine and a few other fabulous characters because Avery is just that good.
The Schemer is an addictive read….the cover caught my eye, and when I read the synopsis I knew this was going to be a good book. I was RIGHT! I was hooked from the very beginning, the first time Tyler and Everly met. The fireworks began right then and just continued, from their trying to one-up one another to them falling in love. Tyler, who prides himself in always being in control, won’t have a clue how to deal with the fiery Everly.
“Love was crazy and out of control and overwhelming to the point where a person could lose themselves completely.”
The title for this book was perfect because Tyler is most definitely a schemer, and it has made him a success. He, like Everly, wasn’t born into privilege and money. He was determined not to be like his parents, and he worked hard to accomplish and achieve all those goals. However, somewhere along the way, he has schemed himself. He’s been so busy trying to know what people’s plots and plans, trying to come out on top, that somewhere along the way he has lost an important part of himself. As much as he has tried to not become his parents, he is becoming more like them every day, pushing away those that love him the most, especially Everly. He will have to come up with the scheme of all schemes to win her back.
I want Everly as a best friend. This woman is loyal, loving, and tough. She has had to work hard to achieve her goals, but unlike Tyler, she hasn’t lost her self-identity. She has accepted her issues with the past and has moved on from them, making it priority to make her and her Nunni’s life better. Speaking of her Nunni, I adored their relationship. It made me thankful for the relationship I had with my grandmother and made me miss her. She never hesitated to protect those she loved, even Tyler when he wouldn’t take up for himself.
One of my favorite things about the book were the added chapters about Helene and Alberto’s romance. She has spent so much time taking care of others, and it was nice to see her find someone who would take care of her and help her find happiness again.
Flynn created a sexy romantic comedy, but it also packed an emotional punch about family and self-discovery! Looking forward to reading more in this series.

Tyler is a good man with a few annoying flaws. He plans, he overthinks and his emotions never see the light of day. He has one goal. Success. Everly is a good woman with a host of flaws. She's opinionated, moody and let's her emotions guide her choices. When the man with a plan meets the girl with heart, all of their best laid plans go out the window and temptation rears it's annoying head. The Schemer is the two best sides of Avery Flynn, hilariously funny and heartwarmingly delicious. Ms. Flynn let's more humor shine through with the Harbor City series, but she never forgets how appealing speaking to the heart can be.
This 2 are dynamite! They grate on each others nerves but can't stay away from each other. Both are stubborn and proud even if on the outside they look like they are complete opposites. You will love the arguments, they are very entertaining. But more than that you will love the fire that comes out of them when they come together. HOT HOT HOT! Even if they want to, they can't resist each other. I really liked that while Tyler seems like he doesn't care and like he doesn't have a deeper interest in Everly, everything he does is with her benefit in mind. He is just lying to himself even when others see right through him. On top of that, I like that he ends up learning the biggest lesson from Avery to make his life better. Which is coming from the person he least expected it but not surprising for us since through every chapter she becomes predictable to him. But what really made these story entertaining for me is that there are others that are wiser and better schemers than Tyler. They are exactly what is needed to manipulate these 2 know it all... And you get 2 stories in one. What more can you ask for? For the 2 couples resisting has never been more pointless.
With every book in this series, Avery Flynn has knocked it out of the park and has gotten them to be more entertaining. This one is no exception. In fact I think I like this one the most because of the banter and how Everly never forgets who she is and where she came from. In fact she helps Tyler find his way to where he belongs.
Tyler and Everly are both from the wrong side of the tracks so to speak according to Harbor City society. for Tyler he is out to prove he is where he belongs and prove all those there that he made it despite what they think. He tries to shed who he is and becomes on the exterior what society wants. But he never truly loses his roots. He has friends that help keep him grounded and tell him like it is.When he goes to far they let him know it. Good thing to or he would be completely lost. He has had a rough childhood and you can understand why he wants to forget but he also had those around him to help him as well. Just how much he really never knew until he totally screws up and has to get put more in his place. Overall Tyler is a great guy. He is smart and funny. Sarcastic and really good at scheming and figuring out all the angles.
Everly is a hoot. she is comfortable in her own skin and hasn’t let go of her roots while making it in a city where her roots are frowned upon. Her attitude may be off putting to some but she is truly entertaining and sweet.
these two meet and don’t really hit it off. Tyler is a doof who speaks before thinking. It can be excused but he continues when not meaning to. She brings out the best and worst in him. The attraction is through the roof. The sarcastic banter and interactions between them is a hoot. So entertaining. They sometimes misinterpret the other’s gestures and that adds fuel to the fire. For example the second meet. The favorite barbs is the cooking of tyler poor dude is hopeless in the kitchen and the moments where they are there are classic. these two one up each other and it is hysterical. As Tyler is in this battle of wits, he is also so attracted and fighting it but not as much as Everly does.
when they can’t fight the attraction anymore, the explosiveness of it wow just wow. What brings them together? A scheme that isn’t a scheme of course. He shows her a different side to himself as well. And we get a fun couple who keep each other in check but also help one another. They support each other and accept each other. Until Tyler does something stupid and we are back to the beginning. Kind of. We see Tyler lost and confused but still fighting himself. When he finally figures it out boy does he do the grand gesture that will bowl you over and have you swoon.
The story is in both Tyler and Everly’s view and both are equally fun and entertaining. Tyler’s mind is more into figuring out the next move of someone than Everly’s. He is still stuck at points in trying to prove himself even though he already has. Their relationship is entertaining, sexy and intimate in so many ways. They help each other and when it is needed put each other in their place. Their story is fun, entertaining and sexy. There is no lull in the moments and goes by so quickly that you hate to see it end.
Another winner. A sexy, witty, hilarious battle of the sexes romp that'll have you laughing in all
the right places and cheering for your favorite victor. You'll like Tyler and
Everly from the moment you meet them and you just know something will combust eventually.
So grab a tea, coffee or what-ever your fancy, sit back and enjoy the battle
It makes me sad to give 3 stars to this book, but I don't feel like I should give it the 4 stars I normally would have. Why? Because of Tyler. He was so focused on forgetting his roots and becoming one of the men with the money whose kids didn't need the scholarship to attend the school he had. I wasn't able to like him to be honest. And I didn't like the way he treated Everly after she tried to defend him. She stood up for him and he said some mean stuff to her. Everly is my poor baby and Tyler is a bad and mean person. Now, I hope you realize why I cannot give a higher rating to this book. I cannot give a good rating to a book where I didn't like the hero.
I enjoyed every mention of his cooking though. The book got a lot of points for the humor it had. Everly was a good heroine and she was also one of the strong points of this book. I liked the rivalry between her and Tyler in the beginning. Honestly, the only sore spot of this book was Tyler, so I think many readers will enjoy this book.
The Schemer is deliciously naughty fun. It's a battle of the "down and dirty attitude" and the "pretentious wannabe". May the odds be ever in your favor...
Two neighbors and a feud that will have you cracking up at their particular forms of vengeance, makes The Schemer highly entertaining. The tension and desire wafting off of these two make it hot. And the meddlesome "friends" are the icing on the cake.
The cast of this book will have me going to start at the beginning. I can't wait to meet them where it all began.

I thoroughly enjoyed this witty romance between Tyler and Everly. Their banter and attempts to one-up each other while fighting their attraction, was a lot of fun. Ms. Flynn did well in showcasing how differently each of them handled issues from their past, and how those differences ultimately helped the other find happiness. I also liked the side romance with Helen and Alberto, it was lovely and heartwarming. Overall a fun, quick read.

The synopsis sums this book up very well, folks. This feisty art gallery owner heroine, who is from the local blue collar hood and proud of it, and the social status obsessed hero, who tries to distance himself from the very same ties, start off verbally sparring back and forth, all while fighting their undeniable attraction. Their own personal baggage though keeps giving them reasons why they shouldn’t be a couple, Yeah, they drive each other absolutely crazy to the point they keep crashing into each other’s arms and lips.
Though at first they came across as rather childish/petty with their back and forth barbs, you just knew something big was starting to brew between them. Tyler’s ambition to be the undisputed heavyweight business tycoon of the elite at times got in the way of his overall likability. While Everly’s “love it or leave” approach to life endeared me to her. She’s the one who stayed true to herself throughout this enemies to lovers romantic tale.
As this is the first book of this series I’ve read, I can’t compare it to the previous stand-alone but linked storylines. Just know this author does throw in lots of very graphic, steamy scenes with lusty language once the ball finally gets rolling between this meant to be together pair. For me what made it was Everly never letting Tyler get away with anything.
With a nicely done wrap up near the end that sets more than one thing right, groveling and confessions of the heart lead this couple down a path headed towards future wedded bliss. Btw, there is a sweet secondary romance of a much older couple intermixed throughout the main plot here, as well.
Title: The Schemer, Series: Harbor City (Book 3), Author: Avery Flynn, Pages: 300, stand-alone but part of a series, art gallery owner heroine, business tycoon hero, enemies to lovers, back and forth banter, slow to come to his senses, knucklehead moment, groveling hero, HEA, no cheating, no love triangle, no OM/OW, hateful ex-fiance causes trouble.

I wasn't sure at first if I was going to like Tyler, but then his nerdy side showed and I was a goner. He made Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings references, swoon! I mean he does have his jerky moments, but why it works for me is because he redeems himself. Tyler and Everly rub each other the wrong until their chemistry has them rubbing each other in delicious of ways. They shouldn't want anything to do with one another, but as a reader I could see how perfect they are for one another. Their journey is a long one, but filled with humor and heat. Tyler's ex, boy did I want to strangle her. Avery Flynn did a great job of writing a very unlikable character. I thought the epilogue was the right touch to end this book.
3.5 Stars
I didn't have the greatest impression of Tyler when I first met him in Hudson's Harbor City book, but one of the joys of getting to see former secondary characters get their own book is the fact that you get to know then better.
Seeing Tyler and Everly turn their adversarial neighbor relationship into more was sweet. I appreciated the fact that they seemed to find their match with the person least like what they were looking for.
Add in some hard fought lessons, a much needed comeuppance, plus a great secondary cast and you have an enjoyable book that is definitely worth a read.
This story is one of two people having grown up on the wrong side of the track but did everything you could think off in order to succeed in life. Tyler Jacobsen has made himself a millionaire while Everly Ribinski became a successful gallery owner.
The first encounter is all but a pleasant one. They don't like each other and they start this game off pranking one another in order to see who will outdo the other. The coin flipping was interestingly added to the story. I really like it.
I don’t really know why but I was so sad when Everly stood up to Irena who’s Tyler’s ex and defended him and he (being a man) didn’t realize what she was doing. I’m not sure if it was up to me that I’d forgive him the way she did. I really like the side characters. I would love to read a whole book about Helen and Alberto.
Book 3 in the series (unfortunately) wasn't my favorite but having said that it was still enjoyable and funny read.

The Schemer is book three in the Harbor City series by Avery Flynn. I fell in love with the second book in this series so there was no hesitation to read this book. And I’m so glad that I did!
Tyler Jacobson grew up on the other side of the harbor. His parents were volatile and never hesitated to take out their tempers on each other and on their only son. When Tyler was awarded a prep school scholarship in Harbor City, he got out as fast as he could and from then on, did everything he could to separate himself from his roots. Tyler’s mind never stops planning, always two steps ahead, proving to everyone that he is more than his parents. That he was successful. But he never really felt like he’d completely accomplished this. He never really felt accepted into the Harbor City Society. He has one more big plan in the works. If he can pull this one off, it will do it. It will finally prove what he is capable of.
Everly Ribinski also grew up across the harbor. But unlike Tyler, she accepts where she came from. It’s a part of her. Everly lives for art. It’s her passion. She is the owner of a fledgling art gallery and lives upstairs in the same building. The first time she laid eyes on her downstairs neighbor, she felt that zing of attraction. But she could tell at first glance that this was the type of guy she needed to stay away from. Men were trouble, especially one with an insatiable drive to be successful.
Everly and Tyler get off to a rough start and start a sort of friendly feud. Tyler can’t cook at all, and frequently burns his cooking attempts. He may have burnt a few things on purpose, knowing it drove his neighbor crazy. Everly has a love of high heeled shoes, shoes that make lots of noise in the apartment below her. So she may have worn those shoes constantly, and stomped around her apartment, knowing she was driving Tyler crazy.
Tyler has a lucky quarter, and has trusted his future to it many times and never been let down. So when Tyler and Everly finally face off, Tyler takes out his lucky quarter and challenges Everly to a coin flip, knowing that his quarter won’t let him down.
“Of all the men in Harbor City, it had to be him who did this to her. And they said the fates had no sense of humor.”
Of course, the competition between them soon turns to lust. Try as they do to ignore it, it was inevitable that the attraction would win. Could they just get it out of their systems, or would it lead to a hunger that couldn’t be filled?
“She’d thought she’d been hot before, she was wrong. This was the face of the sun hot and all she wanted was more.”
This book was so much fun. The feuding between Everly and Tyler was hilarious. But these two also stole my heart. Both had pasts that they wanted to forget and reasons for wanting and needing to make something of themselves in Harbor City. But they were also off the charts hot together. Their chemistry was electric.
“Everly was the one woman who had the ability to tie him right back to the one thing he’d spent most of his life running away from, and if he wasn’t careful he’d go with her, smiling like a happy idiot.”
There is also a side story here between Helene Carlyle and a sort of surrogate father figure to Everly, Alberto Ferranti that I loved. They were so adorable.
This was such a good book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have a ton of distractions going on right now and the fact that even with everything going on, these two stayed on my mind, keeping me coming back and grabbing a few pages every time I could. I still need to go back and catch the first book in the series to get Sawyer’s story.
The Schemer has been one heck of a story. If you are looking for dynamic characters, complex, and rich in detail, everyone in this book has so much attitude and personality they leap off the page and run with it. I love how both Tyler and Everly are from the "wrong sides" of the city but each handles it differently. Everly is strong and wears her roots with pride while Tyler snuffs his background out as much as he can. It doesn't make him weak by any means. But he sees his background as one.
This book has great romance and holy moly off the charts heat. I'm talking scorch marks and melting the paint off the cars hot. Then there is the little thing with Alberto and Helene and their matchmaking. I loved it. I can't go on anymore! But I just loved them! This was a battle of a romance and I never wanted to see both sides crumble so much in my life! I highly recommend this book.
Tyler Jacobson is pretty awesome. I mean he built himself out of nothing. The title is fitting, he's definitely a schemer. Growing up on the wrong side of the tracks does that to a person. We see that he has built himself up a perfect kind of life, but there is one person that is getting under his skin, Everly Ribinski. They kind of hate each other. Here's the problem between these two, they get off on the wrong foot. They have a simple misunderstanding, but they both interpreted the wrong way, so the things kind of escalate into straight up crazy. Each of them tries to out maneuver one another, until the attraction explodes.
Okay, these two were burning hot from the very beginning, it would have been all fine and dandy had they actually talked with one another and explain their actions, but no. They both run hot thinking the other is out to get them, and it's not until a little ways down the story they come together, and trying to work one another out of the system. Which is a total logic reasoning until someone or both fall in love. Tyler and Everly grew up the same way, and both worked their ways to where they are today. Each of them looking something, but in essence the same thing, and they don't even realize it. Towards things get a little heated, and little more emotional. I like these two characters, because they both have flaws, yet they balance one another out. However, they are kind of blind on what they want and what they actually need, which is each other. We get see Tyler's ex-fiancee in this story, both she's a piece of work.
Overall, The Schemer was a pretty good and entertain read. I had fun between Tyler and Everly. I hope we get to see Hartigan's in there own stories. Seriously, that is my wish. So, if you are in the mood for some escalating antics, The Schemer is your read.

Tyler Jacobson has gotten to where he wants to be by being a smart scheming businessman. Reaching his goals and being more successful is his priority. A relationship is the last thing on his mind. But when it comes to his curvy and fiery neighbor, he just can't seem to get her off his mind.
Everly Ribinski, his the new tenant with the captivating face and don't-mess-with-me attitude. Everly owns a gallery and art is her passion.
She's had a rough upbringing but she never wants to forget where she came from. I liked her immediately. She is a strong heroine and knows what she wants. But not when it comes to Tyler.
These two don't really hit it off upon their first encounter, but they can't seem to ignore the attraction they feel towards each other.
I really enjoyed the side characters a whole lot. They were funny and engaging. The thing is I seemed to like them more than the main couple.
I had a difficult time getting into this book. I found the beginning a bit rambly and the rest of the story was repetitive and lacking character growth.
As I mentioned above, I liked Everly. I just didn't like the hero. His thought process was one I didn't agree with and he didn't redeem himself in my eyes. I guess he finally snapped out of it because there was about 8% left in the book and time was a ticking.
This book also dealt with some sensitive issues that I imagine were to endear these characters to me, but I just didn't feel it.
I don't enjoy writing a negative review but this book just missed the mark for me.
3.5 star
The Schemer by Avery Flynn is a well written and entertaining read.
I enjoyed the storyline, it held my interest from start to end and I liked the all characters.
Tyler and Everly were likable characters that entertained me with their banter, and sexual tension. These two made me laugh, swoon and they also annoyed me a few times. Especially Tyler.
I know he had issues from his childhood, and I did feel for him but it felt like he spent so much time in his head and putting down his old neighborhood that it started to take some of the fun away from the book.
I found myself connecting more with Everly's character, I liked how she owned who she was, where she came from and didn't give into the pressure of being someone else to be accepted amongst the rich and famous.
Everly was perfect for Tyler, her passion and honesty made Tyler open his heart and see what everyone else saw, that he was a good man who had lost his way.
The Schemer is a good addition to the Harbor City series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all.

Taylor is a schemer, his whole existence is because of it.
Everly's business is going good and she finally found the apartment she wants, however the guy one floor under her is driving her insane.
Taylor and Everly will be the death of each other with the games, and the manipulation going on. What happens though when the fun becomes real? You will have to read the book to find out.
This book is fun and sassy.

I loved this charming enemies to lovers romance. We first met Tyler Jacobson in the book one, The Negotiator. He was heartbroken and felt betrayed by his best friend, Sawyer Carlyle, when Tyler's fiance tried to sleep with Sawyer just before their wedding. Tyler has since reconciled with Sawyer and moved on. He is working hard to leave his 'scholarship kid' identity behind and prove that he is not like his abusive parents. Tyler has a meet cute in his building with sexy art gallery owner, Everly Ribinski. Everly is also from the 'other side of the tracks' but unlike Tyler she is proud of it. Tyler loves her sassy mouth and her ability to stand up and out maneuver him. They got off to a rough start and whenever one tried to apologize, the miscommunication was entertaining. Their fighting was their foreplay and their chemistry was explosive. Everly saw the fun, charming, intelligent man he truly was. If only she could make him believe he was better than the high society, emotionless schemer he put forth. There were so many laugh out loud moments but many sweet and heartwarming moments as well, not to mention their fiery passion! This is the perfect blend of humor, charm, emotion and steam. It captured my heart and had me totally engaged from start to finish. I also loved the plot twist with Helena Carlyle, it was so sweet. I definitely recommend this must read romance!
