This was my first Avery Flynn read, its why I was so excited to receive an ARC for this book. The synopsis alone got me hooked in.
Tyler Jacobson is someone who made a name for himself based on sheer hard-work, grit and perseverance. He grew-up on the other side of the river, and is determined to leave his past behind and focus on building his success. He has a plan for everything, and Everly Ribinski isn't included in those plans at all... But you know what they say about plans—they change.
I admit it was a slow-burn for me. I thought the characters' first couple of interactions were a tad bit childish. Their barbs were funny but the hot and cold was frustrating. It's like they cant decide which way to go when its pretty obvious. But of course there was a little push from people playing cupid... and from there, it picked up speed and became all swoony.
The story isn't very original but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The supporting characters were great; the pacing was great; the cover is definitely hot...and man, the love scenes are pretty scorching!lol
If you're looking for a light and easy read, this is the book to pick-up next.
I've been wondering about Tyler since I first met him in The Negotiator and I was not disappointed! I loved the love/hate relationship (mostly love) between Tyler and Everly. Whether they were arguing or steaming up the pages, their connection was strong - especially when confronted with Tyler's not so likeable ex. The title fits perfectly as Tyler was always scheming. I also liked catching up with the couples from the previous two books and the secondary romance that developed. I highly recommend this book as well as the previous book if you're looking for a sexy romance with lots of laughs and emotion.
4.5 stars
Crazy fun, sweetly sexy, emotionally thrilling and surprisingly real not looking to fall in love romantic journey. Complete with a secondary romance that has a delectable sizzle that is all its own and was very engaging to read. Visiting the whole gang again and finding some new and very intriguing charters, loved it!
Tyler Jacobson is the wiz kid from the wrong side of the tracks that made millions and is doing his damnedest not to look back. Then in to his life comes Everly Ribinsk this sexy, sassy and hard to ignore gallery owner that owns her working class roots and proudly displays them. The chemistry is of the charts and the dialogue is whitey and real. Loved everything about this enemies to lovers romance.
Tyler Jacobson has never hatched a scheme that failed him. From the moment he was old enough to take control of his own life, his sole focus has been on his success and leaving his less than stellar roots behind him.
When Everly Ribinski moves into his building, she is the complete opposite of the type of woman he envisions himself with. She could care less about what he thinks of her, but for some reason these two can't get enough of antagonizing each other.
When mutual animosity leads to sizzling sexual tension, Tyler and Everly are in for one wild ride.

This was a fun read! I loved Tyler and Everly and their initial banter and dislike for one another.
Tyler has reinvented himself from the way he was raised and where he grew up. Being a part of the Harbor City elite is his main focus, and he sometimes takes that idea a little too far.
Everly is proud of where she came from and who she is. And she isn't changing herself for anyone. Wary of men in high places and the way they treat others, she has no problem seeing Tyler for what he is.
Somewhere along the way, these two fall for each other, despite neither of them wanting more than just a fun and uncomplicated fling. But what happens when the schemer realizes that where the scheme ends, is his life really just one big illusion...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
my favorite in this series - i love a good wrong side of the tracks, enemies to lovers story! And Helene!!
The Schemer (A Hot Romantic Comedy) (Harbor City) by Avery Flynn is book number three in the Harbor City series. This is Tyler Jacobson and Everly Ribinski's story.
Tyler and Everly discovered that they were neighbors. Their first meeting did not go so well. These two seem to know how to push each other's buttons. The banter between Tyler and Everly was funny and entertaining but I had a hard time connecting to the characters. Once Tyler starting showing the real Tyler the story did redeem itself.
FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is a great third book in this series that I absolutely love from the very first book I have read to start this series off. Avery Flynn has outdone herself with this book and it really shows in the story she has given us with this great addition to one of my favourite series by her and of 2018 for me. I know it’s only just feb but I know this is one series that’s going to go far with all the romance readers out there. I don’t like giving anything a way in a book as I love to find out for myself so all I’m going to say is what are you waiting for, go get give copy today. You do not want to miss out on this book I can tell you that. I would absolutely recommend this book and author to everyone
Can I just say how much I LOOOOVE these romcoms by Avery Flynn? OMG I didn't think you could get any better than The Negotiator and The Charmer, but HOT DAMN, somehow, Miss Flynn outdid herself with The Schemer! It was SULTRY, SWEET, FUN, CHARMING, HAD THE PERFECT PUSH AND PULL AND WHITE HOT CHEMISTRY BETWEEN TYLER AND EVERLY!
I had a lot of fun reading The Schemer. I found it to be fun, heartfelt, had incredible witty banter, fabulous characters that really tugged at my heart and made me one happy, blissful reader! Everything about this book called to me. I found myself finishing this book in just a little over a day and once I got to the end, I just wanted to flip back to the beginning and start again! I MUST HAVE MORE ROMCOMS FROM AVERY FLYNN!
The Schemer gets a STEAMY AND FUN FIVE SHOOTING STARS!
Tyler did not have an easy childhood as he grew up in a household where the only emotion they knew how to express was anger and then bore the brunt of being a scholarship student in an elite school. He has made a success of himself and prefers to pretend his past didn’t happen so the last thing he needs is to be attracted to a woman who is proud of her less than wealthy upbringing rather than socialite he believes should be his wife.
Everly has made peace with her upbringing and the wealthy father that was never part of her life and looked down on her. She runs a successful art gallery and has created her own niche in society.
The two of them are explosive from the moment they met. It doesn’t matter if they are arguing, bantering or exploring their chemistry but will Tyler realize that a who a person is on the inside is much more important than their social standing before it is too late?
Whether you love the characters or hate them this book definitely gets you invested in both the characters and the outcome which just shows the skill of this author. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Tyler and Everly set off sparks from their first disastrous meeting! Tyler reminded me of a boy on the schoolyard pulling a girl's hair just to get a reaction. And it's hilarious! But in the end their "just fun" arrangement becomes a lot more. Everly is a fantastic heroine! She is sassy, smart and true to herself. I had a harder time connecting with Tyler. He is so busy trying to fit in, he is missing out on life. I loved watching him fall in love. This is a great series!
My favorite thing about enemies to lovers is the passion behind all that hate. Tyler and Everly had a ton of passion and chemistry. From the burning of every meal by Tyler and nearly setting the building on fire to the constant barbs traded back and forth, this book had me laughing constantly.
Tyler has been trying to shed his wrong side of the tracks image since he was a scholarship student at a fancy prep school. Everly can't stand people like Tyler, who only care about the image, and has no problem telling him just what she thinks. I loved that despite what seemed like differences, Tyler and Everly were so similar and seemed to bring out the best in each other.
I haven't read the first two books in the Harbor City series but the glimpses of the characters from those books in The Schemer make me want to know more about Sawyer and Hudson Carlyle.

I just finished reading The Schemer and I have to say that Avery Flynn has written another great installment in the Harbor City series. I received a review copy via Netgalley and this is my freely given, honest review. I have read each book in the series and they do stand alone (I read The Charmer before I read The Negotiator) however they truly are best read in order due to the fact that the characters return in each of the books and it helps to get the insight into their relationships. I have been looking forward to Tyler's story since The Negotiator. We all know that he has a big chip on his shoulder but you can tell that he is only trying to cover his insecurities with all his bluster. Everly is his downstairs neighbor and is introduced to us in The Charmer. She's a girl with a backbone that knows her self worth. As a gallery owner, she can also spot a fake when she sees one which is why she's less than impressed with Tyler. I am a big fan of rom com and enemies to lovers is my favorite trope which The Schemer is! It's told in dual POV and it's funny, sexy, infuriating and there will be some surprises too with our other Harbor City characters. I highly recommend The Schemer and hope that Avery Flynn continues with the series because I have a Waterbury firefighter that I would like to read more about! 4 1/2 stars!
The first book I ever read by Avery Flynn was “The Negotiator”. It started with a bang and kept the momentum until the end.
“The Schemer” on the other hand, was a slow start. I didn’t care for either character; neither was charming and I actively disliked both of them. But- about halfway through the book, the charm is present, the characters are memorable, and the plot is progressing nicely.
Three stars for the beginning, five stars for the last half, so I’m rounding it to four stars.
What a great book! The characters, the emotions, the story--all so good. I hope we'll get to read about more of these characters.
Tyler is a millionaire businessman who grew up on the wrong side of town has been trying to show people he’s not exactly who they think he is.
Everly is also from the wrong side of town but is proud of where she comes from. She owns an art gallery in the apartment building in which she lives and has also become Tyler’s least favorite person.
I’ve been waiting for Tyler’s story as you know from the previous books, he does not like the woman who lives above him. Everly and Tyler have a love/hate relationship. But when Everly meets Tyler’s ex-fiance, things change between the two of them. I enjoyed the banter between Everly and Tyler and I loved that they were both in denial about falling in love.
However, I felt that there were too many other storylines going on in this book at the same time and I really didn’t see why that had to happen. If you’ve read the first two books, you will know what’s going on but if you haven’t, you’re going to be at a total loss. While Everly and Tyler are the focus of the story, you also have Tyler’s ex, Helene and Alberto, Helene’s kids...which is just too much.
I had high hopes for The Schemer but it fell a little short for me.
The Schemer is a truly realistic insight into the minds of those who strive to achieve their dream and forget their roots. But then there are those who prefer to beat the odds, grab life by the horns and rise above while remembering where they came from and how far they've come. And that's what it eventually boils down to when it comes to Everly and Tyler.
Inspite of the connection he has with her and the mind-blowing chemistry, he still has a different picture of his perfect partner. Even though he has been burned once before by his idea of "the perfect woman". It takes pretty much every one of his friends though to make him realize that what he truly desires has been living in the apartment above him all along. And it's going to take him stripping his soul bare and being nakedly honest with " Ms No BS, I am who I am" Everly to win her back.
Tyler Jacobson has worked most of his life to fit in with the Harbor City elite. Looking the part, getting rid of his accent and building a successful business are only the tip of the iceberg.
When Everly Ribinski, a no-nonsense woman with his same background comes to live in the apartment upstairs, his world would be upended. The woman is feisty and proud of who she is and where she comes from.
With his goal set in landing a business deal that could cement his reputation, Tyler will learn Everly is the one person who can give him the leverage he requires, but their not so neighborly relationship will prove a challenge to convince her to help.
This was my first read by the author and I really enjoyed this opposites attract story. Tyler and Everly are both stubborn and feisty and their attraction is off the charts, but either of them wants to get involved with the other and it definitely makes for an interesting turn of events.
I liked the push and pull between the characters and their background stories as well as the secondary characters and their play in the storyline. Always the man with a plan, Tyler will learn you don’t have to change who you are in exchange for the acceptance of those around you and the people who truly matter will love you exactly the way you are.
The Schemer by Avery Flynn is book Three in the "Harbor City" series. This is the story of Tyler Jacobson and Everly Ribinski . This is easily a standalone book.
Tyler and Everly live in the same building and have been butting heads. They both know hardships growing up so they do hae things in common and there is attraction there. But they don't let themselves get past their head butting. But when Tyler learns that Everly could be a key part of him getting a business deal he wants her help. Everly of course doesn't go along with it a first until he points out a few important things to her that could impact her. So she agrees to help him which opens them up to spending more time together and feelings to start to take off.
This was a really funny hot romance. Really enjoyed their story!
First I have to say that Avery Flynn is new to me author and I have to say that I am glad I finally read one of her books.
I did enjoy this book and read it in one day. I loved the banter between Tyler and Everly.
This book is funny and sexy and was one I just didn't want to put down.
I give this 4 out of 5
