There is a fine line between love and hate. The Schemer, full of sassy characters who want to not like each other but can’t fight the attraction, certainly make that statement true. I love the banter between Tyler and Every and the coin flips to solve their disagreements because neither is going to back down or give in. I hope you take the time to read this fun, love story.
Winning is Everything.....
This is the second book I have read by Avery and the latest installment in her series with The Negotiator and The Charmer (which I was lucky to read!)
This book was fantastic! It was everything a romantic comedy should be!
Everly, oh Everly! If I ever decide to grow up, I want to be just like her! She is independent, she is fierce (Could give Sasha a run for her money!) she takes no prisoners and yet she wears her heart on her sleeve. Because of some bad history has some vulnerability which is totally understandable! She is so strong when she has to be, but needs a soft place to fall.
Tyler is the schemer, he tries so hard to rise above his upbringing that he fails to see what is right in front of him. He has been burned bad in his past and unfortunately it dictates his future dealings. He need someone like Everly to keep him guessing and see that your past doesn't have to control your future.
The chemistry between Everly and Tyler is amazing and so, so hot! Even when Tyler puts his foot in his mouth (which he does repeatedly) Everly calls him on his crap every time and that what is needed!
I am so glad I was able to read another fantastic story by Avery! Thank you for your words and cannot wait to read more from you!
This is the 3rd book in this series and I loved it just as much as I loved the Negotiator and the Charmer! As with the other two, this is a standalone romantic comedy but you'll enjoy it much more if you read the other 2 books in this series. When we were first introduced to Tyler in the previous books, I wasn't a fan of him, but I knew once I experienced and got to know his story, I would love him and I was right! Wonderful chemistry between Tyler and Everly and just the right amount of angst, along with funny and sexy times as well. Can't wait to see what this author has in store for us next! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
In the third book of the Harbor City series, Tyler Jacobson, multi-millionaire friend of the heroes from the first two books, has an upstairs neighbor/tenant, Everly Ribinski, who is driving him insane. She’s constantly clomping around in her high heels, distracting him with her curves, and mouthing off to him with her Riverside accent, every chance she gets. Everly, art gallery owner and friend of Hudson (artist hero from second book), thinks Tyler is a giant, hot, jackass who can’t cook for spit and drives her crazy. So, y’all know how this is going to go….yep, romance happens.
The Good, The Bad, and Everything In Between
The Good. The enemies to lovers trope is a particular favorite, because arguing as foreplay can be oh so delicious when done right. Everly and Tyler do have good chemistry and good banter, and their Firsts are handled well. The big climactic scene and the (necessary) grovel, was good and gave a nice resolution to the story.
The Bad. I thought I’d love Tyler alot more than I did. His fixation with his social standing, his insistence (in actions and internal monologues) on saying that Everly wasn’t the type of woman he should be involved with, completely justified HER concern for getting involved with a rich man who wouldn’t accept her for who she is. It wraps up relatively well, but it still stuck in my craw and I didn’t love him, which means only one half of this couple was awesome-sauce and that’s a shame.
Everything In Between. While this works as a standalone, it was nice to get a glimpse of the earlier couples and particularly the secondary romance (yes! An honest-to-goodness secondary romance, which rarely happens nowadays) between an older couple that I liked alot.
The Bottom Line 3 stars
I liked this story, although The Charmer will remain my favorite of this series. There’s plenty of characters available (hey, hi y’all doing, Hartigans *waves*) that I’d really like to read more about, so I hope there’s more to come with this series. I’d enjoy that.

This book wasn’t terrible but it also wasn’t a romantic comedy. Far from comedic actually. It’s more of a semi-dark drama. Both characters have a pretty dark past that they are trying to rid themselves of, albeit in different ways. What I really didn’t like was Everley. She was whiny and ridged and expected Tyler to cave to her every whim because of all her baggage. This was never a 2 way relationship it was a story about how the guy had to change everything about himself to appease a woman who wasn’t about to try to change for him, even a little. I really kind of hated Everley and wish Tyler had ended up with some that was at least a little unselfish. If I were him, I would have told her to take a hike.
Avery Flynn has a way of writing romantic comedy that satisfies your craving for both romance and fun. Her third book in the Harbor City series brings us Tyler and Everly has made a pact to be together until it’s not fun anymore. The problem is (besides Tyler’s lack of cooking skills) is they are falling in love and neither one wants to admit it. Avery Flynn has once again captured in words falling in love and the hilarity it sometimes brings.
Tyler has run from his past all his life, and when he meets Everly, he has to face his feelings for her and for what he truly wants in life. Just when you think everything is going to work out, Tyler can’t face his fears. Will he lose Everly forever? The chemistry between these two characters was HOT! I did not want this book to end, but I did love the ending!
The Schemer was a fun, hot read, where the main characters did everything they could not to fall in love with each other.
Tyler and Everly made the wait for their book worth it! I have loved them since I first read about them in the other books. Harbor City is the best and Avery Flynn is a master. The other romance in this book was so welcome as well. Just simply LOVED this book!
Tyler is a businessman who is excellent in planning to get what he wants. But when he meets Everly, he seems to forget all that he knows and ends up with the proverbial foot in his mouth. Thus begins a war between Tyler and Evelyn and thought they want nothing to do with each other, they keep getting thrown in each other’s paths and the sparks that fly whenever they are in each other’s vicinity don’t help matters.
I loved reading The Schemer. The banter between Tyler and Evelyn was funny and oh so entertaining. Their chemistry off the charts. The author has incorporated a second story that just added to the entertainment. Can’t wait to see who is next to fall in love in Harbor City series.
Tyler lives up to everything I thought he'd be and more in The Schemer. You love to hate him all at the same time in a way. You can't deny the attraction he has with Everly. Everly is sweet and I love how she keeps putting Tyler in his place. I love how they irritate each other. The bickering and banter is so good. There are plenty of little things that leave you laughing out loud and swooning. Such a good read. If you haven't checked out the Harbor City series by Avery Flynn yet you really should.
You know you can never do wrong with Avery Flynn, and again she rocked it with this book. I have been anxiously waiting for Tyler's story, and we finally got it. Everly was great for him, just what he needed a strong no holds bar woman to put him in his place, and he truly needed that. There where times that I was disappointed in him, and I think that is what Avery wanted from us, and thankfully he was put in his place and enlightened by others, especially Frankie, whom we had met in "The Charmer" if you haven't read, what are you waiting for? Anyhoo, he was great and did what he needed to do. It was also good to read about previous characters, I kind of wish we had heard a little more from them, but whatever. I hated Isabel!!..Anyway my friends Enjoy!!
This was a DNF for me.
I read the first book in the series and I really liked it. We meet Tyler originally in that book and he was a complete jerk. I love reading the books where the jerks redeem themselves and we get an idea of what made them so terrible. I figured this book was right up my alley.
Unfortunately, I was more annoyed reading this than anything. Tyler has a HUGE chip on his shoulder from growing up poor and in a bad neighborhood. It seemed like every other page he is bringing up something negative about his background. We get it. You became successful in spite of it and that is totally admirable, but it's beyond obvious that it's a sore spot. Instead of it making him seem relatable and strong, it made him seem like he thought he was better than everyone. I honestly couldn't get past that because instead of focusing on the story, I was focused on my annoyance of that.
Everly also wasn't my cup of tea. She came off as very immature. When Tyler was trying to make amends with her, she made it out like he was doing things to spite her. Not to mention he even did the same thing with that coupon for catering. I don't understand how he couldn't have realized that that was a funny jab at his horrible cooking skills. Honestly, they were both immature. These people are grown adults and they act like they're 15 and I can't stand that in books.
Like I said before, this was a DNF for me and I don't recommend it. Super disappointing because I did really like the first book (never got around to reading the second). That being said, I'd still give Avery Flynn another shot.
Whenever I start an Avery Flynn novel I know that I am in store for a sexy rom com that will knock my socks off. That is exactly what we got with The Schemer. I loved Everly and Tyler's chemistry and their fiery banter.
After a disastrous first meeting Everly and Tyler donNOT get along. Him thinking she was intriguing, beautiful and a pain in the butt and her thinking he was a gorgeous rich snob who he did not know who he was messing with. What follows is a spirited game of one upsmanship and hijinks between neighbors who want to come out on top. But when Tyler needs a favor and some good old fashioned chemistry get involved, watch the fireworks explode, folks!
I really enjoyed this novel and their spirited banter. I loved how ultimately they saw each other for who they are and how hard they worked. All in all this was fantastic and I would like to thank Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. Bravo, 4 stars! ~Ratula
The Schemer is an enjoyable romance with some very good comedic moments.
Tyler and Everly are both form the 'wrong side of the tracks', whereas Tyler has distanced himself from his roots carving out a business empire worth millions dollars taking elocution lessons so he can integrate more into the higher class society, Everly has never forgotten her roots, but she to has carved out a career as an art gallery owner.
From their first meeting they clash spectacularly, he finds her gorgeous but annoying, she finds him devastatingly handsome but irritating. It's a match where sexual tension abound a plenty, great dialogue, steamy moments but above all a damn good story.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book honestly.
After reading the first two books in the Harbor City series, I was wondering how Tyler's story was going to play out in this installment. I was not a fan of him in the first two books but I did enjoy him in this book as he and Everly banter their way to love. I enjoyed the return of characters from the previous books as well as a few new ones. The plot progressed along well and kept me interested from page one. I would recommend this book to others.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book via NetGalley.
I thoroughly enjoyed this enemies to lovers romantic comedy from Avery Flynn. Self made millionaire Tyler Jacobson has worked his way from nothing to a life of luxury. Pretty much leaving everything about his past behind him (except a few faithful friends), he knows when he falls in love it will be with a rich socialite, because he doesn’t want someone from the wrong side of the tracks reminding him where he came from. He didn’t factor in Everly Ribinski though. Everly is not ashamed of her roots or her past, Everly however knows she doesn’t want to be with a rich schemer who reminds her of her absent snob of a father. It’s so funny how these two end up together (just while it’s fun), neighbours who annoy the hell out of each other and pulling stunts to really wind each other up. I love their nicknames for each other, 2b and 3b (their apartment numbers). The chemistry between them is off the charts and their banter backwards and forwards adorable. A firm winner for me. I loved the story, the writing and the characters. I’m hoping there is going to be a fourth book in the series. I was provided with an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
One day I ordered The Negotiator and was hooked. I then, preordered The Charmer and was super hooked. I couldn't wait to get my hands on The Schemer. Sawyer and Hudson are successful brothers in the first 2 books which were so funny and are so swoon worthy.
The Schemer is Tyler Jacobson's story. He is their childhood friend and a pretty serious about his career. He meets his upstairs neighbor 3B, Everly, and he is intrigued and distracted by her. He wanted to succeed in his career first before he settled in his love life. Everly challenges him at every turn, they obviously have a lot of chemistry in which they are fighting within themselves. Tyler really tests Everly's patience and its just hilarious to read through all their antics. I love it. Even though they aren't the best of friends, he realizes that she's friends with a possible potential client that he knew they needed to be "friends" with each other. Their feelings get stronger and stronger for each other and they had to go through quite a bump in order to get their ever after.
I will say, I wanted to kick Irena's butt! Gahhhh, she was exasperating! She made me so mad, I could not believe how Tyler could just refrain from not calling her *!%%!!* or scheming at making her life hell!. Gahhhh.....
I was very happy to see what Helene was up to. I would say she is the main schemer throughout all the books. I am glad she was able to move on to the next step of her life. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I highly recommend this book, it can be read as a standalone, but I think readers would enjoy The Negotiator and The Charmer also.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“Just as soon as her brain returned from its trip to Lustopia, the realization that she’d just f**ked her landlord and quasi-nemesis on the trunk of her car hit her with a force of a Mack truck sliding on a sheet of ice and slamming into a wall made out of marshmallows.”
Having read and loved the two previous books in the Harbor City series (The Negotiator & The Charmer), author Avery Flynn had her work cut out for her in redeeming douche canoe Tyler Jacobson. Ok, maybe that’s just my opinion, but I did not care for him in the other stories (I may have fantasized about running him over with my car) and was a wee bit hesitant in reading The Schemer when I saw he was going to be the hero. But as much as I despised him, Miss Flynn proved that perception is not always reality—Everyone deserves a second chance.
Tyler and Everly’s story is one of two sides of the same coin…and when that coin is flipped, anything goes! And book peeps, I mean ANYTHING!
This series is one to put on your must read list! Highly recommend!
