Every time I think there cannot possibly be any new and innovative ways to recreate the hamburger someone comes along and does it.
In A Burger to Believe In, Kronner and Lucchesi really created some new and unique recipes by making burgers more than just diner food.
For this they came up with some really impressive flavor combos and unorthodox accompaniments. Take the Roasted Bone Marrow meant to be used as a condiment and not a side because sometimes the best thing to go with beef, is more beef. But don't fret and start dialing PETA, the authors have veggie burger options too, like the Earth Burger made with mushrooms, cauliflower, cabbage and tofu that is as beautiful to look at as a rainbow. Still not sold, try the Shrimp Burger with Jalapeno Barbecue Sauce, sure to kick start anyone's appetite.
Thank you Ten Speed Press and Netgalleybfro an ARc of this book innreturn for my honest opinion.
This book covers the how and why of what ingredients to use to make a variety of burgers. There was lots of information and recipes. The introduction states that this is a book for anyone, from those with little care factor about burgers but just wanting a recipe, to those who lives depend on the best ingredients, preparation and end result in the world of burgers.
I enjoyed some of the recipes but I think this book would be best for those who are serious burger makers, those in the realm of drying their own meat and sourcing the best of the best products.
Note to self: do not peruse this cookbook while hungry and craving a cheeseburger. I definitely want to try my hand at hand-crafting my own hamburger now...
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. The fact that I was given the book did not influence my review.
A carnivore's guide to ethical eating. As always I'll review this as both a librarian and a reader.
Librarian: I won't be buying this book. Not because it isn't good. If I were still working Adult Reference I would almost certainly buy it. But I'm a school librarian, and our 600 section already has more than enough books on this topic.
Reader: This book is excellent. Not only does it provide a wide variety of excellent tips and tricks toward making your burger better, but it also goes into a lot of detail around ethical and sustainable meat, and organic gardening. Admittedly I doubt that most people who come into this book are actually looking for this information (most probably just want tips on making better hamburgers.) But it is interesting (if slightly impractical) information.
Burgers, one of America's favorite meals. All the information needed to make the the perfect burger from high quality meat to the perfect bun and toppings. Beautiful photographs and recipes.
It's rare that I read cookbooks solely focused on one item. However, when I saw "A Burger to Believe In", I totally started drooling. I love simple burgers and I was excited to get ideas -- and I did. It's helpful to go through the types/quality of meat and the age of the animal (a bit TMI for me, but all good). I have vegetarian friends and I'm so excited to try making the Earth Burger for them (myself, I'm all about the meat!). The recipes for deep-frying (and how to) is mouth-watering. This book could be a bit on the brainer side for me, but definitely a resource to have on the shelf.
