I just finished one of this authors books and realised I’d not got around to reading this one.

Again I highly twisted chilling read from this author. Just when you think you got it in the bag she throws something else into the equation.

A fab read from one of my favs.

This was a great read and I read it in a day.
Claire is struggling with her father getting Alzheimer’s and her Mum wanting to sell the family farm. Her sister, Lennie, went missing at 13 and has never been found.
Claire decides to invite her old friends to remind her father of better times but she no idea what impact this will have.
Bringing them altogether brings up old memories ad secrets from when Lennie went missing. Then another girl goes missing!
The story is told from multiple POV as well as flashbacks. It kept me gripped & I did not guess the ending or most of the twists.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I don't have access to the book anymore. I have been using a new email for kindle for the last year. I will focus on new books instead of digging for the old files. I apologize for the inconvenience. It's not my intention to not review like this.

Great story, thrilling plot that I could not put down. Well worth a read, and would recommend to others.

Lenni Lucas reminded me of Kelly Wilson from Karin Slaughter's "The Good Daughter". Intellectually disabled girls used and abused.

Themes of freedom and safety for Lenni, and for Rain Carr. Lenni wants the freedom of being outside, yet manipulated into believing she's safer inside. Rain wants a full-time home with people who love her. She wants people to love her, but they just want to fuck her.

Fuck Callum. Ten years older than Claire, even babysat her and her siblings when they were young. Raped Lenni, who seemed younger than she was. Did he rape Rain knowing how young she was, or did he believe she was older?

Girls need professional help; not misguided attempts at keeping them safe.

Girls want to be respected, and supported. And appreciated for being real people, instead of just a doll to play with and abuse.

Claire allowed her sister Eleanor to walk to the shop alone to buy an ice cream. She never came back.

When it comes time to sell the family farm, Claire organizes a reunion of her friends, ones who were there the day her sister disappeared. Will Claire's attempt to help her family and friends move on end up releasing the secrets of the past?

With so many strong reviews, I was surprised how much I did not like the book. The convoluted plot was meant to confuse the reader, to give more punch to the ending, but all it did for me was to add a level of unbelievability to an already unrealistic book. I did not find any of the characters to be likable, with the exception of the mom, and I thought that much of the storytelling was simply a ploy to direct the reader in a certain way. For these reasons, I would not recommend The Reunion to other readers.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of The Reunion via NetGalley and the publisher, Bookouture. The decision to review this book was my own.

This was okay but I did find the characters not quite what I like and just wanted to end the book at points.

It does have a lot of potential.

This was a very solid mystery that kept you guessing until the end. But that is where things fell apart a little for me. Things got confusing and explained in a weird way that left the ending less satisfying.

Thirteen year old Lenni disappears while her older sister is watching her on the beach. Almost 20 years later, the sister decides to have a reunion to bring all her friends back together and they finally find out what happened to Lenni. A great twister and quick read from Samantha Hayes.

The reunion was a gripping read and I loved it. Cleverly written and kept me guessing on several occasions trying to work out who did what, why and where. A fab read.

THE REUNION is a psychological thriller by bestselling author Samantha Hayes that will mess with your mind and keep you turning the pages until you reach the end. A definite winner!

They were all there the day your sister went missing...Who is lying? Who is next?

The story begins in 1996 when Claire is in charge of her thirteen-year-old little sister, Eleanor at the beach, and allows her to walk alone to the shop to buy ice cream. Eleanor, at the age of thirteen, wants nothing more than to be free, to be independent like her older siblings, Jason and Claire. But Eleanor never comes back!
And the years pass…and the mystery of Eleanor’s disappearance still remains. The family is devastated.

Then in 2017, Patrick, Claire's father has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and the early stages of dementia have set in. It is now too much for his wife to continue to maintain, and her mind is made up to sell the family farm. Claire is organizing a reunion of her dearest friends, the same friends who were present the day her sister went missing.

The reunion has consequences that will change all their lives forever.

When another girl disappears, long-buried secrets begin to surface.

The Reunion was well written, with an engaging plot full of twists and turns and memorable characters with a surprise ending.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture via Netgalley for my digital copy. Highly recommend!

I’ve read and enjoyed previous novels by this author so was really looking forward to The Reunion and I’m pleased to say that it was a great read. The novel is set in past and present, which I always enjoy. Claire’s little sister went missing when she was in charge of her and now in the present the family is facing up to having to sell the family farm and are having a reunion of everyone who was there when Eleanor went missing. I was suspicious of everyone in this book. This group of people all have secrets and things they’re hiding – some more serious than others and so it makes for a great read as you wonder who it is that has the biggest secret of all! Ultimately, I did work out what had happened before the reveal comes but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the book.

The Reunion

What can I say? Samantha Hayes has totally delivered with this amazing book! It’s so well written, full of suspense and plot twists. It had me constantly guessing, only to find out I’d got it all wrong!

This is a story that will get you hooked from the outset, with the disappearance of a young girl, to years later. The events still haunt family and friends. Going between past and present, this is an intensely emotive read that within keep you glued to the pages to the end. Five amazing stars.

I was so excited to pick this book up because the premise falls into my favourite type of thrillers. I love thrillers with characters from the coming back together to solve a crime from their past. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this book.

I found the writing stilted, all the characters completely unlikable including the ones who weren't meant to be, there were far too many shifts in perspective and I didn't find the mystery particularly gripping.

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC of another brilliant offering by a prolific author.
Twenty years ago Claire was partly responsible for the disappearance of her sister, Lennie. Lennie never came back, and now, twenty years later Claire wants a reunion. Everything is changing, and she wants the family together for one last time.... boy what a reunion it came to be!!
Highly recommended.
