The start of an intriguing and well-written story set during the American Revolution. It's a small-scale story that is well-written and presents a slightly different view of the time than one often finds in the literature.
I really like this series that puts the American Revolution in perspective month by month, detail by detail. Rather than a overall timeline of the war, the authors provide an microscopic view that places the history buff into the midst of the action. Well worth the reading.
I’ve read several historical novels set in the 1770s recently, and have been wanting to get some context for my reading. So the timing of seeing this serial at NetGalley was perfect.
It’s a bit hard to review an installment on so few pages. So far there are many unfamiliar characters, which I hope will be excellent going forward, rather than a focus on the usual names. Right now it’s a bit confusing. Some of the stories bring period difficulties to life (and incidentally point up the anachronisms of some of my fiction reading!).
I look forward to further installments.
A brief but in-depth look at some of the people and events central to January 1776 in the context of the Revolutionary War, as well as a general discussion of life at the time (with this installment focusing on travel and communication).
Ever since I fell in love with the musical Hamilton, I've been interested in learning more about colonial America and the world our Founding Fathers lived and worked in. This is the first installment in a series of 12 monthly pieces on the year 1776, a very busy, important year in early American history. Each installment delves into what happened in the correlating month, so this piece covers all about January 1776 - not only the events but also giving insight into what life in general was like that. I particularly like the use of quotes from colonists.
It's a short, concise piece that doesn't take too much time or energy investment but it chock-full of interesting information for history (and Hamilton) enthusiasts. Looking forward to checking out the next installment!
