This story centers around an assumption--a mistake that lead to broken hearts. I very much enjoyed this 3rd book in the Redemption Harbor series. Katie knows how to perfectly blend suspense and romance to create a page turner. This is also a fun read due to revisiting past couples. I always enjoy the author's knack for developing rich characters--and piquing my interest just enough to put the next book on my reading list. This was a solid 4 star read for me.
Redemption Harbor has never been a more important name for a town that in this story of a man’s need to redeem himself for the worst mistake of his life. This series about a group of really interesting individuals that have banded together to try to help those in need continues to grab my attention and remind me that there are really people out there in the world that care about others enough to stick their necks out. The previous stories have been all about the danger surrounding the characters bringing them together and the intensity of their attraction coming from their situations, where this novel is a complete one-eighty from that. Instead Brooks has finally decided to go after the woman that he threw away in the worst mistake of his life and finds that she is in danger in big way, but luckily he can keep her safe. Darcy has been trying to forget the man that broke her heart—and her trust—months earlier when he destroyed their relationship, but when he suddenly reappears in her life she doesn’t know how to handle it or him. Then suddenly she finds herself embroiled in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a deadly adversary and Brooks is the one she trusts to keep her safe, even though she knows being close to him isn’t good for her heart or her sanity. Getting to see these two coming back together, finding their way back to trust and discovering a way to work through the very issues that tore them apart. Brooks obviously knows that he made the biggest mistake he could ever have made, but now he has no idea just how hard he will have to work to get back the woman he loves, even though he knows he will do whatever it takes. They never stopped loving one another and their chemistry is undeniable, but the core of their story is truly them finding a way to truly and deeply understand one another as well as understand why they have made the decisions they have made in their lives. Getting to know Brooks more and see what makes him tick, as well as watching him work through the issues with his Dad and past, show us that he is really growing up and becoming the kind of man grownup enough for a real relationship with Darcy. Darcy herself has a few things to work on as well, which we get to watch and seeing her dealing with her own issues show us that sometimes a woman can be just as screwed up as her man. I loved seeing them falling back into one another’s arms just as much as I loved seeing them come to the realization that the love they had for one another wasn’t anywhere near as deep or abiding as the love that developed once they knew themselves and each other better. I am dying for Gage’s book since we all know just who has captured his heart, and of course Leighton will be beyond sexy when he meets the love of his life. Katie just can’t go wrong in my book no matter what she writes, but this series has certainly kept my attention and drawn my heart in from the beginning.
Darcy Cooper thought she and Brook’s Alexander were meant for one another, but yet after he accused her of taking his father’s money she is alone. She still has her wedding planner business which is going well but after overhearing a conversation has put her in the cross hairs of a killer he must now protect her. She on the other hand does not know what she heard and does not want anything to do with Brooks, though she still has feelings for him. When he finds out from his father that she did not take the money now he must not only protect her but also somehow someway prove to her that he made a huge mistake and she is the woman for him. Can he save her, but more importantly save himself? Read this wonderful story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was an intense and gripping story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Brooks and Darcy's second chance together. I loved the dual POV that the book is written in. It really helps me to understand what the character is going though and why he or she is doing things that may not seem logical to me. Everyone responds differently to situations.
The book started out with a bang and kept building toward a explosive ending. This story kept me entertained to where it was hard to put down. The scenes were crafted in a way that they flowed like a movie in my mind. I highly recommend this story to anyone.

I haven't read the first two, but this is a stand alone and wasn't lost at all. I really want to read Savage and Olivia's story.
Brooks let Darcy get away when he believed something stupid about her. Then she overhears something she shouldn't have, and he comes to her rescue. This time he doesn't make the same mistake. If you've read the other books, lots of help from the previous couples.
I didn't really like the two chapters devoted to Gage and Nova (they will get their HEA in book 5). I don't mind teasers, but two whole chapters...no thanks.
Darcy was on the wrong place at the right time. A witness to a terrible crime being plotted she seeks the assistance of the one man who broke her heart. He will do anything to protect her and when her life hangs in the balance it will draw them closer than they’ve ever been.
Katie Reus is a pillar in the romantic suspense community and DANGEROUS WITNESS is another jewel in her crown!
I really enjoyed reading Brooks and Darcy’s story! Brooks messed up royally and is doing his damnedest to earn back Darcy’s trust as well as protecting her from the dangerous situation she’s in.
I wasn’t too fond of Brooks, especially since he was a big jerk to Darcy. Darcy is a strong heroine and I really liked her. She didn’t just cave when Brooks tried to get back in her good graces and she definitely didn’t shy away from the danger she was in, but faced it head on. This wedding planner has a core of steel! Even though I wasn’t a fan of Brooks, he and Darcy pared well together.
The suspense aspect of the story was spot on. The villain(s) were diverse and unpredictable and the storyline was engaging. The secondary characters were supportive and entertaining as well. If you haven’t read a Katie Reus book, I strongly encourage you to do so.
This is the first in the series that I’ve read and while technically it’s a stand-alone novel, I probably would have benefited from having read the other stories. Reus does a pretty good job of giving new readers the info they need but I think that there are certain nuances and details that I missed out on.
While I enjoyed Brooks as a hero, he was definitely everything you could want as a part of this elite unit of mercenaries – strong, tough, smart, and ruthless. He also loves Darcy with his whole heart … even if he did go and screw it up at the very beginning 🙂
If I was Darcy I’d definitely have made him work for it a bit more but I also have to appreciate the lack of games and dramatics between the two. There’s hesitation on her part and a bit of groveling on his, but they do eventually figure it out. I also like that Darcy is smart enough to realize that this is something much bigger than she can’t handle on her own. She listens to the professionals and lets them help guide her.
And speaking of danger, Reus sure knows how to crank things up. The action and suspense element of this story was balanced really well with the romance portion. Overall, an enjoyable read and some more stories to add to my TBR pile because I’m dying to get my hands on the other stories in this series 🙂
Not only do I love Katie Reus, but I love the “second chance lovers after a betrayal” trope, so this was right up my alley.
Short version of the betrayal is that Brooks is going to propose to the love of his life Darcy, but his dad offers her a couple million dollars first. When his father tells him this, Brooks is livid. We all know Darcy didn’t take the money, and his dad assumes he knows this as well, so he never flat out says it. But of course Brooks goes to Darcy to tell her that he knows his dad offered her the money and he can’t believe she’d take it. She quietly tells him to get out.
Fast forward seven months or so and his dad asks him when he’ll ever get back with Darcy. Brooks of course is like never, she took the money. His dad is floored. He tells Brooks that of course she didn’t. Brooks’ earth tilts.
He knows he has to apologize, grovel, beg, anything to get Darcy to forgive him. I liked how he was very willing to absolutely to say he was wrong. Darcy for her part forgave him very easily, and at first I didn’t like that, I wanted Brooks to suffer. But the two of them worked well together, and it made sense. When something major happens that causes Brooks and the private consulting firm he works for to get involved, they have to work together to deal with it.
This book had everything I like. There was suspense, excitement, great chemistry, and a well-done apology. I loved it!

This story was fabulous! I think I'm completely in love with Brooks, and Darcy was an awesome strong female lead! Must read!
More like 2.5 stars....
This is an okay read. I can say that based solely on the characters. I especially love Brooks. Though he was the one who messed up big time before that led Darcy and him broke up, his willingness and eagerness to get her back was just touching and incredibly sweet. He's the typical alpha, brave but sweet guy who knows what he wants and will do everything to get it. And how protective he is to Darcy. Darcy was fine too but i find her more predictable than Brooks.
And that's actually why I can't rate this book more than 2.5 stars. It's predictable and cliche, for me. The plot was cliche but I wouldn't have minded that if I liked how it was written. Don't get me wrong, the writing wasn't really bad, it's that I can't get over with repetitions. Like in one chapter, something was already mentioned, expect that it would be mentioned again by the next chapter because the point of view changed. This problem could be avoided, I guess...
The narration also became too informative because there's always an explanation going on (in the head of whoever's having the point of view). Example Darcy will do something, say fixing her hair before seeing Brooks, she would right away explain (to the readers) that it's NOT THAT Brooks won't like her if she looks bad. And tsk, I lost count how many times I've read the phrase NOT THAT... And yeah, you have an idea what comes next this phrase... This makes the narration really informative, in other words, TOO much telling and less showing.
But overall, I think this is still a nice read. I finished it so it means it's tolerable. Maybe it's just me who's so sensitive the way it was written with too much telling. :) :) :)
ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are hones
Misunderstanding broke them apart.
Will a second chance be enough to reunite them ?
Alexander was wrong about Darcy, and he wants her back.
Darcy suffered a disappointment, but is she willing to give him a second chance ?
I loved the storytelling + the characters
The storytelling + the character's build were awesome!
This is book three in the “A Redemption Harbor” series. This is one of the “original seven” story I was looking forward to, Brooks. We get a preview of Brooks in the previous two books but you don’t need to read them as this could be read as a standalone. Although, it wouldn’t hurt to read the others as they are all really good reads as well.
I love sexy military cowboys and rich; that is what you get with this story. I also love a man who can admit when he is wrong which is what Brooks will have to do. But is he seven months too late? Guess you’ll have to read it for yourself to see. I really like Darcy, she is a strong business woman who doesn’t let anyone hold her back from her dreams; and that includes a certain sexy cowboy. When trouble brings them together, she needs him and his team to keep her and her sister safe. I do have to let you know for those with certain triggers that there is a brief kidnapping scene along with man handling.
This story has got lots of action, suspense and some sexy love scenes. I hope you enjoy this book, I know I did. I look forward to the next book in the series!
***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review via NetGalley, this is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.*** Thank you!
"Dangerous Witness", is an amazing romantic suspense story of intrigue, sexy men and women, romance and a real page turner! Darcy is a sassy woman that has been wronged and speaks her mind. She is also in trouble and has to turn to the one man that hurt her the most, her old love, Brooks the hot millionaire and co-founder of Redemption Harbor Consulting. He also finds out he is a jack-a** for assuming facts and throwing away the best thing in his life. Not only working to protect her, Brooks must also work for his "Redemption" and his way back into her heart. The action is swift, the romance is hot, with the H and h both being strong characters that will find their way to a HEA. Each book is a standalone and a series I highly recommend. I would like to thank NetGalley and KR Press,LLC for gifting me "Dangerous Witness". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 4.75 Stars!
This third book in the Redemption Harbor Series by Katie Reus was another one of those books that I had been waiting for because the other books in this series were so good and I just had to know more about all those people that I have come to care for.
Meeting Skye and Colt again as well as Olivia, her sweet little daughter and her partner Savage and all their friends was great and I really enjoyed finding out more about Brooks as well.
Brooks and Darcy are an amazing couple even though I was sometimes a bit frustrated that it took them so long to trust again but, well, the important bit is that in the end they get there, right?
Fast-paced and captivating, this book had me hooked from the beginning and well, at the end of this book ....I needed more. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series because they are not only well-written and well-plotted but also captivating and thrilling.
Definitely another book that I can wholeheartedly recommend to all those readers who love a well-written romantic suspense.
4.25 stars-- DANGEROUS WITNESS is the third instalment in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult REDEMPTION HARBOR romantic suspense series focusing on a tight knit group of friends who grew up together but now work security and Black Ops investigations for Redemption Harbor Consulting. This is former Marine sniper, millionaire rancher and co-founder of Redemption Harbor Consulting Brooks Alexander, and wedding planner Darcy Cooper’s story line. DANGEROUS WITNESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from several third person perspectives including Brooks and Darcy DANGEROUS WITNESS follows the rekindling relationship between former Marine sniper, millionaire rancher and co-founder of Redemption Harbor Consulting Brooks Alexander, and wedding planner Darcy Cooper. Approximately seven months earlier Brooks Alexander pushed away the woman he loved when his father told him he offered Darcy a two million dollar pay-off to walk away and never look back. Fast forward to present day wherein Darcy Cooper, while planning her sister’s upcoming wedding overhears a plot to blow up a local school. Desperate to find help, our heroine goes in search of the man she once loved. Enter Brooks Alexander, co-owner of Redemption Harbor Consulting. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and rekindling love between Darcy and Brooks, and the set up and take down of several men with criminal connections seeking vengeance against those who did them wrong.
Brooks Alexander screwed up big time believing the woman he loved could be so easily paid off. Darcy never took the money but was never given the chance to defend or explain the events leading up to Brooks’ father’s proclamations. Hoping to rekindle their relationship Brooks works overtime to win back Darcy’s love but in doing so discovers that Darcy has been targeted by a very dangerous man. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the men and women who work for Redemption Harbor Consulting: Mary Grace and Mercer, Colt Stuart and Skye Arevalo (Resurrection #1), Zac Savage and Olivia Carter, her daughter Valencia (Savage rising #2) and Valencia’s nanny Martina Cruz, Leighton Cannon, Gage Yates, Brook’ father Douglas; Darcy’s sister Emma, and her fiancé Peter Markov. The requisite evil has many faces with connections to the Russian mob.
The world building continues to focus on the take down of the bad guys. There is no hesitation as is pertains to protecting the people that they love including using some questionable tactics to get the job done.
DANGEROUS WITNESS is a story of second chances and hope; of vengeance and betrayal; friendship and family. The premise is intriguing and entertaining; the romance is provocative and intense; the characters are colorful, charismatic and passionate. My only complaint is the convenient and tidy conflict resolution to the slow building, story line set up as the Redemption Harbor team work together to prevent a series of explosions all aimed at vengeance for sins of the past.

Dangerous witness is the third book in the series. It can be read as stand-alone (I haven't read the previous books and I never felt like I should have). The plot of this book can be described in one sentence. Man tries to win the woman he idiotically lost back while trying to stop a crime lord from killing innocents. I was very mad at Brooks for acting so harshly when he thought Darcy had taken the money instead of thinking that she would never do that. I enjoyed seeing him grooving and having to beg for her forgiveness. Darcy got points for not accepting him immediately back even if she was in love with him. She got lots of points for that. On the plus side for Brooks's case if the fact that he was celibate the 7 months they were apart.
For me, the suspence and the romance were balanced and well put. I liked the main characters, the secondary ones were interesting enough to make their books go up on my TBR list and the pace was good. If the author plans to write more books in the series I will read them.
Dangerous Witness by Katie Reus is book Three in the "Redemption Harbor" series. This is the story of Brooks and Darcy. I haven't yet read the other books in this series, so for me this was a standalone book. This book does start at the point were Brooks and Darcy break up after he wrongly accuser her of taking his father's money and basically calling her a whore. Now 7 months later Brooks learns that she didn't take the money that she basically told his father off. Brooks knows that he was wrong not to realize she would never do such a thing and want to get back with her. But even after saving Darcy from being hurt doesn't make her change her mind. But later she finds that she is in need of his help and Brooks works to repair the damage he did to their relationship.
Brooks has been a bit of an idiot where Darcy is concerned. He leapt before he looked and just assumed she had taken the bribe offered by his father. But when he finds out she refused the cash, well he feels a bit of a heel. He tries to get in her good graces sending flowers and such but his father, who finally seems to be re-entering the land of the caring father thanks to a certain former nanny, tells him to apologise in person. On his way to see Darcy he sees her being mugged and runs to the rescue.
Darcy cannot believe that Brooks saved here. After the way he broke her heart, she is not sure she wants anything to do with him any more. She is stressed planning her sisters wedding, dealing with her sisters future father in law and his creepy henchmen.
But when she later hears something she shouldn't she calls on Brooks firm to help her.
I loved the way that Darcy realises why Brooks went a bit OTT in the assumptions he made and can forgive him, but she is not ready to offer up her heart on a silver platter just yet. She wants to get to know Brooks again. Brooks for his part knows he has been a prize idiot and is happy to take it slow if that's what Darcy wants.
Great dollop of danger, creepy henchman, bomb plots and general mayhem. Loves the way the wedding of our previous couple was woven through the book and became a way to keep contact so that the team wouldn't be discovered investigating! Pacing a wee bit slower than previous books but still highly enjoyed it!
What a fantastic book this is. Katie Reus really knows how to write this type of genre and does she do it spot on. Wow her books have you hooked and engrossed the whole way through her books and her characters are just superb. They had me on the edge of my seat and I could not have put this book down even if I wanted to. Only took me a day to read and it was one fantastic day too. Definitely can read this book over and over again as it’s that amazing and outstanding piece of work by a author who is becoming one of my favourites for this type of genre books. A must read all day long and a real page turner too. I would absolutely recommend this book to everyone
