Thank you for providing a copy of On the Edge of Scandal by Tamsen Parker. I initially took a break from it, intending to return later, as I couldn't get into it at the time. Unfortunately, I’ve since lost interest in revisiting it. I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to exploring future titles that align more with my current reading preferences.
I love when we get a couch and sports player romance and I really don’t think there are enough of them. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read this book but quarantine has freed up ALOT of my time so I figured to dig into the galleys I never got around to. So Bronwyn and Ash are great together but there is a snag in the beginning and Bronwyn has an absolutely terrible boyfriend who does not deserve her! The sex scenes are hot and sexy but if you have an issue with coaches sleeping with their teammates you may want to approach this with caution.
This was a fast taboo read that had me holding my breath because I felt that at any moment they were going to be found out.
To me, Bronwyn & Ash's relationship was something forbidden but consensual from both parties. Ash knows Bronwyn's going through a heartbreak and at no time does he take advantage instead he tries to keep it professional but their hearts had other plans. There's some drama but in my opinion nothing over the top.
Sweet, sexy and forbidden romance.
Bronwyn Perry is the star of the US women’s hockey team, and she and her boyfriend Brody Hill have been hockey royalty since they’ve been in high school. Brody unexpectedly fails to make the men’s team but still comes to Denver to support his girl at the Snow and Ice Games. Or so Bronwyn thinks. Ash Levenson is the coach of the women’s SIG hockey team. His primary responsibility is to keep his team happy, healthy, and primed to win. Though he’s close in age to his players, he’s been doing this for a while and mostly, it’s easy to keep his eyes on the puck. He’s always been able to discard any crush he might have on any of the women he’s coached…until Bronwyn. When Bronwyn and Brody’s romance comes to a very public and very ugly end, Ash has to get his star player’s head back in the game and ready to dominate on the rink. Which may mean spending a little time off the ice…
This was a quick read with plenty of hotness thrown into it. I am not a big fan of characters that hop from one person to another, especially when it’s a main character. It definitely detracted a bit for me, especially with it being a short read.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
4 stars — OK, this book surprised me in a lot of ways!! And mostly good, so woop woop! I wondered if perhaps it was because I hadn’t reread the blurb before diving in, but nope — there was a lot that wasn’t hinted at!
Ash was so unexpected. First of all, I wasn’t expecting his health issues, and that this would be a disability diversity read. I thought that his struggles were showcased really well, and it gave him a strength of character that I wasn’t expecting. It was hard seeing him in pain, but I loved that for the most part he accepted his limitations and tried not to feel shame for it, but just didn’t want attention drawn to it.
I also wasn’t expecting him to be a beta boy. And he totally was. He was less aggressive, but such a good guy deep down. He was so smart and forthright in his coaching, and I loved the way he saw the game and his role and how he treated both his players and opposing players. He had a true appreciation for the game, and I loved how impressed and proud he was of women’s hockey, and how it differs from men’s. I honestly loved so much about Ash, but he was by no means perfect. In particular, I hated the way he dealt with the scandal of his relationship with Bronwyn, but I’ll come back to that.
Bronwyn was a strange mix of strong and vulnerable. I feel like I was missing some background from her on why she was so needy though… But maybe there wasn’t any reason, maybe it was just an aspect of her personality. But it just…felt like there was more there. I LOVED the way she dealt with Brody in general. And I appreciated the way she didn’t have many good excuses for still being with Brody, other than inertia. I was disappointed with her in the beginning, with her hockey play choice, but I felt like it worked for the story.
I was a bit concerned about the forbidden romance aspect of this story. And at first I was pleasantly surprised with how it came about. I loved that they tried to do the right thing and resist at first…they did take the issue seriously and the challenges of it. But then there were moments that made me mad at both of them… The problem is, I’m not sure how the story could have played out in any other way. But I was seriously concerned. It came back together in the end though, and I was satisfied with how it worked out. I will admit there is a part of me that wanted a second epilogue where we find out everyone’s reactions, but…eh.
As I eluded to when talking about Ash, I really loved the sports aspect to the story. I especially loved the attention that women’s hockey was given, and the kinds of problems they face from ignorant hockey fans (often men) who don’t appreciate the differences.
So yeah. Despite this not being a trope I’m particularly attracted to, I found myself really loving Ash and Bronwyn together, and hoping that they could find a way with few consequences.
On the Edge of Scandal is a sweet story with a realism I appreciated more than the naughty bits. Don't get me wrong, I love naughty. It's just something about the "Not a ripped muscle bound Greek god" hero that made me like it even more. Do I like those books...duh! I adjusted liked the realism of the hero's character being the draw for the heroine. Not all nice guys finish last!!!

I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book
Bronwyn is happy to have a chance at winning the gold at the Snow and Ice Games and nothing is going to break her focus...Not her rude ex or the other teams she has to compete against. The only real problem... her attraction to her Ash!
Ash knows that he should notice nothing about Bronwyn but her skills on the ice but he can't help but notice how beautiful she moves on and off the ice.
What started as a moment of weakness grows into so much more when lines get crossed that can't be uncrossed. Can Ash continue to deny the attraction that is growing between him and Bronwyn or will they create the biggest scandal that the hockey world has ever seen? Read and find out!
I’ve really enjoyed reading the Snow & Ice Games books, especially while watching the Olympics this year. I really enjoyed the first 2 books and was excited to start On the Edge of Scandal, especially because the main character was a hockey player.
Honestly, while I really liked both Bronwyn and Ash as characters, I had major issues with a coach dating and sleeping with one of his players. The fact that Ash really struggled and did try and fight his attraction to Bronwyn really helped me feel a little bit better about the situation. I will say that I was so glad to see Bronwyn get away from her ex-boyfriend Brody and wanted nothing more than to see him get the crap beat out of him for how he acted.
While I had issues with the coach and player being together, they did have really great chemistry and I liked they each really got the other one so well. I just kept going back to how much trouble it would be for both of them if they were caught, which distracted me a bit from the story.
I still have 2 more stories to read in the Snow & Ice Games series and had planned to finish both before the Olympics ended, but didn’t get them finished in time. I must keep reading to find out how Ms. Parker ends the series.
Rating: 3 Stars (C+)
You guys know how much I love all things sports romances. I was excited to read these books because they were set at a Winter Olympics-type sporting event, so we got to see different sports, some that you don't really see in romance. I will say that I enjoyed all of them very much, and pretty much finished them in one sitting, though I was left wanting more.

Love on the Tracks' heroine, Rowan is a luger with a massive crush on heartthrob Zane Rivera. I liked this story quite a bit even though I'm not entirely into books with rockstars. There's the fake-relationship trope here and it was well-written. Both characters are quite likable too. I liked all the insides of luge, which isn't a sport that I've thought too much about, so that was interesting. Who I didn't like in this book was Rowan's dad. He does some shitty things and ugh, I was ready to punch the guy! I will say that the romance between Rowan and Zane developed quite fast here, but I expected that with the short length of this book.

Seduction on the Slopes was quite possibly my favorite in this series. This one features skiers and an age-gap romance. And it's an M/M romance. I thought this one was so much fun, and I loved the dynamics between Crash and Miles especially. This was definitely on the sexier side, but we see the two begin to fall in love over the course of the sexy times. I would have loved for this book to be a bit longer because I loved these two different personalities and how well they clicked together.

On the Edge of Scandal features the romance of a female hockey player and her coach. It has the unrequited love storyline and ahhh! I don't think I've screamed enough about how much I love this trope! At the start of the book, Bronwyn has a jerk boyfriend, and Ash watches from the sideline as he pushes her around. I didn't particularly care for the scenes of the jerk boyfriend, but once he was dumped, I was pretty happy with this book. There were interesting conversations here about the power dynamic at play, and I liked how there was clear consent given on both Bronwyn and Ash's sides before they dove into a relationship. Their romance is sexy and sweet. Of course, I loved all the hockey elements as well. A good read!

Fire on the Ice is the F/F romance between two skaters competing for different teams. This installment read very differently from the others to me because of how much focus was on the sex, especially in the first half. This was one of my first F/F adult romances, so I was very much scandalized by some of the sex scenes - haha! *blushes just thinking of the book*
I did wish we would have seen Maisy and Blaze connect on a more emotional level in this book instead of just them banging like bunnies. They were both interesting personalities, especially with how different they were from each other. Blaze is more no-bullshit and Maisy is quiet and shy. So, I would have liked to see why exactly these two contrasting people connected so deeply and I didn't feel like we saw that here.

On the Brink of Passion was my least favorite book in this series. It made me a little uncomfortable if I'm being honest. I was excited to read it because it has a figure skating couple, but oh gosh. I'm a romance reader who doesn't always like reading about tougher situations, and here, there were some seriously awkward sex scenes with discussions about verbal and non-verbal consent. It was all important talk of course, but because I wasn't expecting it, it took me aback. I did end up liking it towards the end, especially because the hero, Beckett, was a sweetheart, and the heroine, Jubilee started to open up more emotionally.
Overall, I liked this series a lot though there were both ups and downs. I would definitely read more from Tamsen Parker in the future!
Ok, so I didn't love this. I liked Ash and the way that he looks after his players and protects them, but I found Bronwyn a bit difficult to take at times - and it turns out that coaches and their student athletes is a taboo that I'm not a big fan of. I really liked the way that the book dealt with Ash's osteoarthritis and the challenges it gave him. I wanted Ash to be happy - which meant with Bronwyn - but it seemed to go against his character to take that risk and to be so unprofessional and risk his career. And their falling out near the end (ahead of the final denouement) made me screamy-angry - he had to do what he did and she should have seen that and realised what their relationship was risking for him and been more reasonable. I also wanted more comeuppance for her ex.
Tamsen Parker has another winner in her Snow and Ice Games series! On the Edge of Scandal is Bronwyn and Ash's story woven around the USA women's hockey team and their quest for gold! All sorts of taboo... Ash is Bronwyn's coach! Yep! It's a fun ride for sure!
Bronwyn and Ash fit together nicely! Never was I so happy to see a break-up than when Bronwyn sent her boyfriend Brody packing-and very spectacularly too! I did not like Brody-and I think that was the author's intention. He was egotistical and very commanding of Bronwyn. She just let things slide-even though she knew he often put her down to others. There was nothing I wanted to like about him. He plain out used Bronwyn to get his own accolades any way he could. He was second-rate and I was glad to see him go! But now Bronwyn is floundering. Ash has to do some damage control, and quick, if he wants his star player to keep her head on straight for these upcoming games!
Ash has had a thing for Bronwyn(having contact with her through their teams playing one another), way before he was her coach. Things go super nova after he offers Bronwyn his help. Yes its all sorts of taboo, but he's got a job to do right?? Only things ramp up rather quickly and it is yummy! It's white hot and racy! Bronwyn isn't some wilting flower so she goes after what she wants. Ash is too smitten when it comes to her, that he gives her whatever she wants.
I loved how their love evolved! I also thought they put a lot of thought and effort into how to go public with their relationship. It was sweet and endearing! I also loved when Bronwyn, although quiet and reserved most of the time, let loose and told how she felt when it needed to be said! She was no pushover!
One thing for sure, Tamsen Parker has done her research! All of the books in the series have featured a particular sport and the idiosyncrasies surrounding it. I loved reading about the players approach and their feelings while participating. I love sports and have thoroughly enjoyed learning some new facts! I have really had fun time reading this series, as they have a bit more substance than your typical over the counter romance novel. The romance is just one piece of the plot and I find that refreshing!
The Snow and Ice Games series offers something for everyone-M/M, M/F, F/F, etc. Each book is a standalone, so you can jump in at any time, but you will want to read them all as they are truly addicting! On the Edge of Scandal wasn't quite the power player like the previous books, but it's a solid entrant and I think you will enjoy it!
This was a cute story, I would have liked to read about the resolution and the post surgery situation rather than the suggestion of what it would be and I would have liked the Brody situation to have been a bit more involved in the story.Still I love these type of stories about sporting events and this one was enjoyable
Hockey player Bronwyn is dedicated to her sport and when her long time boyfriend Brody encourages her to take out an oppenent, she listens to her against her better judgement. This initiates a series of events that leads to a break-up right before the start of the games.
Coach Ash has tried to hide his feelings for Bronwyn but when she needs his support, he's there to help. And even though he tries, his true feelings for Bronwyn come out and things take off from there. But coach-player romances are also potentially scandalous, and Ash and Bronwyn deal with the press, while sorting out how they really feel.
I liked this story. It was believable and a very sweet romantic story between two athletes.
An ARC was provided for review.
The story's has a touch of taboo but doesn't take away from the romance of the book. Ms. Park has done a fabulous job with two compelling characters. I really enjoyed the story. Good solid writing and dialogue helped wonders. Lots of sizzling chemistry between Bronwyn and Ash. Thanks for the fantastic book.

On the Edge of Scandal by Tamsen Parker (contemporary, St. Martins, February 2018, Snow & Ice Games, book 3): Bronwyn Perry is a member of the U.S. Women’s Hockey Team competing in the Snow and Ice Games. After a messy and very public breakup with her long-time boyfriend, Bronwyn turns to her coach, Ash Levenson, for comfort and finds so much more. The problem, of course, is the fact that Ash is Bronwyn’s coach while on the national team, but he is also the coach of a college women’s hockey team and Bronwyn is still in school. Their relationship is forbidden, and they must hide their emotional connection from everyone - and in an unexpected twist, they do. Their conflict has more to do with how they handle their newfound love. Ash is older than Bronwyn and deals with chronic pain from his own hockey days; these add to the pressure that both characters face especially given that they are at such different points in their lives (Bronwyn is still in college and just starting out in her hockey career while Ash is an established women’s hockey coach).
On the Edge of Scandal is a great choice for those looking for a hockey-themed romance with a female hockey player as its main character. It is a sexy romance with a taboo flavor to it (one of Tamsen Parker’s strengths).
On the Edge of Scandal (Snow & Ice Games, #3) is a very sexy and entertaining read. It is well written and has an engaging plot. The characters are complex and share a sizzling chemistry. Book offers a romance that comes across as a bit taboo, but really if you took out the whole coach/athlete angle there would be nothing objectionable about it. I really like Ash and felt bad that he often found himself in situations where regardless of what he did he was going to come up the loser. Bronwyn, is alright. To me she seemed immature and way too needy. Still I enjoyed this steamy romance. I am posting a honest review after reading an advance copy of this book.
3.5 stars
Bronwyn Perry and Brody Hill have been together for years. Their relationship has lasted through high school, most of college, and to present day as Bronwyn plays for the women’s hockey team at the Snow and Ice Games. Brody didn’t make the cut for the men’s team, but he’s there at the games to supposedly support Bronwyn. However, Brody likes to look out for himself.
After an injury derailed Ash’s dreams of the NHL, he now coaches women’s hockey and he’s primed for his team to win. He has always kept his eyes on the game and not on his players, not like that anyway. However, Bronwyn catches his attention like no one else ever has.
When Bronwyn finally has had enough with Brody, their relationship implodes publicly, and Ash is there to get his star player’s head back in the game.
On the Edge of Scandal brings us to the third book in Parker’s Snow and Ice Games series. The series follows different pairings of athletes at the games. The games are the connection and so far each book can be read on its own.
This book is written in first person, dual point of view, which may just be my favorite style. However, I found this book slow and lacking chemistry between the main characters. Bronwyn is the star of the women’s hockey team and she has her long-standing boyfriend hanging around as he failed to qualify for the men’s team. Brody doesn’t exactly treat her well and talks about her behind her back. Bronwyn is aware of this, but stays with Brody out of convenience and because she doesn’t want to be alone.
Ash was a hockey player himself until an injury sidelined him. He started coaching so he could stay in the game and he treats the women as athletes. Brody has never crossed a line with any player, but he will admit that Bronwyn turns his head. When Bronwyn and Brody break up, Ash is there is to comfort Bronwyn and keep her focused on the game. Yet, Bronwyn needs more, and Ash becomes her comfort zone, which leads to a physical relationship between them. I never felt the chemistry between these two and it seemed rather transactional. We see Ash thinking about Bronwyn, but Bronwyn never thought of Ash as anything but a coach. We see Bronwyn needing someone to turn to and since Ash is safe, he becomes the guy. Bronwyn is also completely wrapped up in herself and what she needs and she never even considers what Ash might be going through.
Both characters spend a lot of time in their own heads, as do many of the characters in this series overall. This book also follows an underlying theme of a secret relationship and the characters here are once again insular as the action takes place mostly in Ash’s room over just the course of the games, which is similar to the other two books before it. The pace was slow for me here and it was a lot of going through each emotion with each character and as if they were narrating their own lives. On paper, that style sounds intriguing, but the execution here lacked romantic chemistry and the characters were ultimately bland and flat. The resolution with Brody was also expected and he was a stereotypical character that came off as two dimensional.
There was more on page sports action here as there were several scenes of hockey games, which added much needed movement. I was looking forward to this series for a number of reasons and so far, neither the sports nor the relationships, have drawn me in. This series is also the first I have read from Parker, but if you know you like her work, then it might be worth a look.
