I just wanted to say is, I didn’t read the first book to know what’s all going on, terminology, or characters backgrounds. With that said I couldn’t get into the beginning of this story until a few chapters later, No idea what Idris hate really stems from other then what he said and felt with his father and the possibility of war and the hatred of these two vampire clans. Idris was mean at the beginning but felt something happening to him when he thinks or mentions Celia.
Celia is a half vampire half human, dhampir and she never know who or what she is until Idris reveals all and she is a princess but with a condition that won’t be revealed until later in the book as well as family and a very quick bonding of love....

A good 2nd book in the Mission series. I did think that Celia was a little too trusting and compliant. If I had a man kidnap me and tell me what Idris told me, I would have been actively trying to escape. I also thought that Idris had a big chip on his shoulder. The sex scenes were steamy. I was shocked at the twist towards the end of the book and can't wait to see what book 3 will bring.

I was going to have a panic attack. Right here, in front of this -- vampire man -- my body was going to attack itself. Wow, I was amazing at self-defense.

I went into BLOOD VEIL with pretty low expectations because I've yet to really find a recent release by Erickson that's really grabbed me. Some excellent, and exciting, variety in what she's churning out these days but still.. I'm always juuust on the fence about the results.

So maybe it was those lower expectations, or maybe it's been a while since I dipped into paranormal, but I really enjoyed the first half of this second offering in the Mission series. I liked the characters, the plot, the thrills and chases, and it was lacking in the silly, ridiculous, or OTT cheese of book one. At least for a little while.

I'd always thought that place in my soul full of anger made me hard, strong. But now I realized it didn't. Not at all. It was an extreme emotion just like love, and if I could feel anger that strongly, then I could love, too.

By the second half of the book my enjoyment was a lot less and I just wanted to get through it until the end. I think I'm finally at the point where I'm going to stop requesting this author, maybe even stop reading her altogether, and none of that is a result of what's happening out in the romance world right now. I usually like her books (ish) but just don't love them and I'm getting to the point where I don't want to pick apart the things that clearly so many other people love; over and over again. Especially if I'm not getting anything out of it, you know?

So, yeah, not for me but I can see a lot of people liking this addition to the author's world of vampires. I think I still have the second of her werewolf series on my kindle, unread (of course), but after that I think it's so long, goodbye, I wish you many readers who are way less fussy than me.

2.5 "that was my life now, relieved at the sight of my vampire kidnapper. Stockholm Syndrome was a thing, apparently" stars

I had a lot of issues with this one. Made me sad because I was looking forward to Idris and his story. One issue - his use of calling her "little one" gave me the creeps. Another was a huge dislike of mine which is throwing out the "I love you" with no relationship development. On top of that was the timing of the first two sex scenes with Celia. I won't say much because of spoilers but the timing was just a big no to me, especially with it being her first time. What happened at the end was resolved too easily and just out of place or added after the fact. I received an ebook at no charge for which I voluntarily provided an honest review.

This book starts off where book one leaves off. This is a great PNR story.

Celia is an orphan quietly living her life. Her quiet life comes to an end when she is attacked by a vampire and rescued by another.

Idris is the hero of this story. This is the second book of a series, and you can tell he had a role on book one. I didn’t read book one, but it wasn’t too confusing.

Idris is keeping Celia as leverage for negations with her father. She has never met her father and doesn’t know her lineage. There’s a lot of conflicting feelings between both characters.

This is a solid PNR. It would probably be better to have read book one, but it stands alone very well.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I have been missing out. I love paranormal romance books and this does disappoint at all.

An entertaining paranormal romance. Idris and Celia's book is really good. I used to read a lot of vampire books but took a step back and changed things up. I will definitely be reading this series. I loved the entire setup and Idris is yummy. Despite the fact that he's a vampire, you'll be rooting for him anyway. Celia is the perfect match for him. Only problem is, she's the enemy's daughter.

The plot moves steadily, and with each chapter, I wanted to know more about Celia. I think the next story will be just as wonderful as this one.

Picking up where the second book left off, Blood Veil is an exciting continuation of the Mission series. Idris had a small, but important, role in the first book, so I was eager to learn more about him as a character and see where life takes him now that he would not be King. Megan Erickson certainly did not disappoint and provided greater depth to the world she began creating in Blood Guard, especially with the look inside the political dynamics of the rival Valarians. For those who love suspense in their romance, this book is chock full of it!

Now that Idris Gregorie will no longer be king of the Gregorie clan, he has been tasked with monitoring the Valarian king's half-human daughter, Celia. Expecting to maintain his hatred for the Valarians and using it and Celia to further his revenge against the Valarians for their part in his family's past, he finds it harder with each passing day. Celia is nothing like he expected, and her kindness towards others has him rethinking his plan. When she is attacked, seemingly by Quellens hired by her own father, Idris has to speed up his plan and get closer to her than he anticipated. Will his mission remain the most important thing, or will his growing attraction to Celia change everything?

Celia was a sweetheart of a heroine, making it very easy to feel a connection with her from the beginning. Abandoned at an orphanage, she's never known her mother or father, and she has grown up largely alone. She has become a nurse, making her a healer rather than the murderer Idris fully expects to find. It had a beauty taming the beast type of romance, in that Idris was so angry all the time and Celia was the only one who could take away his pain. It was sad at times, especially when Idris battled between his desire for revenge and his desire for Celia, and I wondered if their love could truly survive all of that. However, they were definitely a stronger couple than I initially expected, and I thought it was a great pairing.

Beyond their relationship, I wanted to make a special mention of the humor Megan Erickson sprinkled throughout the book. Things like calling Idris a "human boulder" were especially funny, as I could just picture how he looked to humans when he was so much bigger than the average man. In addition, Celia's internal reaction to what happened to her as the story went along were great comic relief during tense moments. For example, when she has a coworker ask her out, she thinks the following: "Everything about him screamed nice. But people said Charles Manson and Ted Bundy were charming, too. See? There I went again. This was why I wasn't fun at parties."

A great addition to the series, and I hope to see more soon! Megan Erickson is a wonderful storyteller and creates characters that stick with you for a long time after the story is finished.

This book was my first paranormal romance, and I loved it!! It was so raw and real. I felt the characters were missing something, but that is because I did not read the first one. I have to admit some scenes freaked me out because of the gory details, but those brought the story to life.

I really enjoyed the book. This is my first book of the series so I didn't know a lot of the back story. Now I have to catch up on this new world full of clans and prophecies.
Both of them are strong characters who grow and a change along the way.

I enjoyed this story, it take me a bit to get into it but when I did I was completely invested in Celia and Idris! The story was fast paced and pulled on your heart strings. It's a stand alone but you see characters from eariler books.

A complimentary copy was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

After reading Blood Guard I was eager to read Idris's story. I knew it would be interesting, and of course I knew what would happen. At the end of Blood Guard, Athan sent Idris to guard the Valarian princess. Yeah, who didn't see this coming, lol.

I do wish the story had started a little more in the past, maybe right when Idris finds Celia and started watching her. It's clear when the story starts that Idris is obsessed with Celia, but I would have liked to have seen the why and how of it. Sure, she's pretty and all that stuff to lure a man in, but Idris is planning to use Celia as bait to get to her father, so I wanted to see his struggle early on with his feelings. We do get to see his struggle on page once the two are together, but I wanted more.

Even though Celia is basically kidnapped by Idris (after he saves her from a Quellan attack), and she does fear him at first, she also feels drawn to him, which I kind of rolled my eyes at. She is half vampire, half human so I was able to ignore that aspect some, but OMG, she trusts Idris pretty fast. Speaking from a real life "no, vampires aren't real" mentality, if someone kidnaps me and claims to be a vampire, I am going to try and escape, not hold their hand and follow them.

Overall though I really did have fun reading this and I can't wait for another installment. I hope it's Amelia's story and I have a suspicion of what her story might be. I hope I am right, because how awesome would it be if [Amelia falls in love with Keno's brother? (hide spoiler)] By the way, there are so many rules in this series about vampires and half vampires. Make sure to pay attention. :)

Oh, and the sex was awesome!! :-D

Hot, sexy, dynamic vampire romance and adventure. Is there any more I should say?

Yes. Yes there is. I totally fell head over heels for the world created by Ms. Erickson in the first book in this series, Blood Guard. My review of that book can be found here.

This book is just as good, just as captivating. Idris is really, really pissed about what happened to him at the end of Blood Guard. Believing he was the elder son destined to be king, both Idris and Athan were shocked to learn that their birth order had been deliberately reversed to make the prophesy of the super-Vampire king impossible to fulfill. For many years, their lying father had been conspiring with the enemy vampire clan, the Valarians, to turn against humans, making all humans nothing but blood slaves. Tortured by the Valarian king, being threatened with death by fire, Idris…is…pissed! What better way to get revenge than by capturing and holding for ransom the Valarian king’s dhampire (half human, half vampire) daughter? Revenge would be sweet.

Sweet only begins to describe Celia. Having been raised in foster care, she has no idea of her parentage and certainly no idea that vampires exist. Although leading a pretty solitary life, with few friends, she is a caring, loving and compassionate person, a nurse with a deep desire to help others. She’s a charmer.

Celia’s first clue that there really are things that lurk in the dark was being attacked in her bedroom by a horrible, white, red-eyed monster trying to stab her in the heart. Her second clue, which she didn’t get, was when a bigger, badder…”male person”…lopped off the head of the homicidal monster. She watched it’s head roll across her bedroom floor. Ewwww…! (Not a spoiler, that happens pretty early.)

Then the fun really begins as he convinces her that vampires exist and she convinces him that she has no idea her daddy is a vampire king of a different clan.

I really love this story. I sincerely hope that Ms. Erickson will continue the series. There are some great possibilities left to explore! Pick up a copy and…

Enjoy!

I am loving this series!!! Blood Veil was the perfect blender of snark, steam, and story. Those three pieces are what makes a book irresistible to me.

I LOVED this book!! If you are a fan of JR Ward or Jeaniene Frost books, you will love Megan Erickson's Mission Novel about feuding Vampire Clans and a forbidden love between a half vampire/half human Princess and her Vampire Protector who can not be with her. This book grabs you from page one and keeps you addicted until the end. The hero Idris Is Alpha hot and a worthy book boyfriend. If you are a fan of forbidden love stories, this is the read for you! Thank you Megan Erickson for writing this great series, A must Read Novel!
Thank you loveswept@randomhouse for the ARC

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

Celia has lead a pretty solitary life. She never met her parents, she was an orphan. She has no real home. One night she is attacked by a Vampire out to kill her, then saved by another! She had heard stories about Vampires but they were just stories right?

Idris came to kidnap Celia to hold against her father. Idris' clan feel they can co-exist with humans while Celia's father and clan think of human's as just food for the Vampire. He is also partly responsible for the betrayal of Idris' own father. Celia is a Halfling.

Idris was raised for war and nothing else. He only dealt with humans when he had too. He doesn't know what to make of Celia. He takes Celia to await word from his brother, the King, before he returns with her.

It was funny because when Idris first came for Celia, you would think he was dealing with an alien race because he knew nothing of humans and their ways. He begins to care for her and of course there is the attraction between them. Since his world and their politics are unknown to Celia, Idris does begin to explain the situation.

He never tells Celia why he came for her though, as a lure to kill her father. He has lived for revenge. Will Celia be able to forgive him? Then there is another twist and Celia and Idris are in the fight for the life.

I had read the first book of the series and really enjoyed it. When I started to read this book I was thinking that I didn't like Idris much at all! I did have to remind myself though that Idris was raised to become a King and warrior and then betrayed by his own father! He didn't really know of the Social part of life unless it involved war. He basically didn't have much of a social personality.

He learned from Celia as she did from him and they did it with love. They taught each other how to let of the past's hold and have a future.

I really liked this book and the different slant on the vampire world that the author is taking. It’s not your typical vampire story. I did feel a little tired of hearing the hero castigate himself but overall a good read and I am enjoying the series.

This will be the second book by Megan Erickson that I have read and reviewed. I am (now) aware that she has a large back catalog of books to keep me entertained for a while. This is very much in my favor because I can't wait to see where she takes this series.

First let me say that I thoroughly enjoyed that Idris and Athan and the other vampires are learning new things and secrets about their kind and humans right along with the humans, Tendra and Ceila. This gives Blood Veil (and Blood Gaurd -book 1) more depth than other vampire books that are being published. It leads to a little bit of mystery for the characters of each book.

Book 2 introduces us to Idris ( formally known as the heir apparent in book 1) and Celia who is a damphir (half human half vampire hybrid) she is also the daughter of the Valarian King who is sworn enemies with the Gregorie vampires ( Idris's people). With a little bit of back information on what happened in book 1, readers can easily jump into this books without having read book 1... but why in the world would they want to?

While this book has a small selection of supporting characters it is most definitely the main characters that take the show. Idris is strong and determined and holding a mighty big grudge against Celia's father the Valarian King, and as much as he wanted to be the bigger ...vampire? he is having a hard time...even though he really likes the look of Celia. His loyalty may very well be his downfall.

Celia is...clueless as what her family history really includes, Having grown up in the foster system she has made her own way in life and pushed away any longing she had for knowledge of her biological families. Celia simply exists. Or did until Idris shows up and things get confusing and then interesting and the chemistry starts to show. Celia is smart and just as determined as Idris, only she wants answers, not revenge. Major points for her because she wasn't the typical female in danger/trouble.
Things get serious, not just with Irdris and Celia, but with the two vampire kingdoms.

Cannot wait to see what other readers think. Absolutely a wonderful five star read with anticipation of a third book (fingers crossed)

Another hit from Erickson! Blood Veil is a very wholesome and lovely paranormal romance that puts cliche vampire elements with a dynamic couple that you can’t help but fall in love with. Just like the previous book, much of the plot was predictable, but it still manages to tug on your heart strings. I thought this was a solid sequel, especially since Blood Guard was such a hit for me (my review here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34444705-blood-guard). UF readers might find the elements of this book overused, but it still provides a solid romance that will transfer you to an interesting world for a couple of hours!

+ It’s a very quick read, but lots of things are packed into it.
+ One of them is the feud between the Gregorie and Valarian clans of vampires in the dangerous city of Mission.
+ The Valarian king has a hidden half-vampire daughter that the Gregorie clan wants to take as hostage to negotiate a peace treaty. Her name is Celia.
+ Celia works in the emergency room of the hospital and has no clue of her vampire heritage. This all changes when vampires start targeting her and she gets rescued by Idris, a Gregorie royal who has a grudge against her father.
+ Their forbidden romance happens rather quickly, but I feel like the feelings that arose within the dangerous times were justified and made sense.
+ Lots of chemistry!!
+ Again with the predictable plot elements, but I did not mind at all.
+ I feel like many things were glossed over though, leaving for a plot with a bit of holes. Since they’re more story holes than romantic holes, I ignored them in favor for the developing relationship between Celia and Idris.
+ Celia never really belonged anywhere, growing up in foster care, but I loved seeing her find a family. Idris has a temper and anger problems, but he finds control and a reason to keep going after falling in love with Celia.

Content Warnings: abuse, attempted rape, violence, panic attacks, sexual content
