Thank you to NetGalley and Loveswept for providing me with an e-ARC to read and review.

"Blood Veil" was an okay, quick read. It's more talking and self-reflection, some tension and action, and less romance. I wish the book could have just slowed down so I could really enjoy, really know more about everything that was happening. Celia and Idris didn't seem to have a realistic enough time to really fall in love, but I will always root for them.

I do like the (continued) new angle Erickson is taking with vampires. The new concept/lore she's written is interesting and opens up the possibilities of more unique vampire stories.

I would keep reading this series because of the characters and the vampire world that has been created.

I received a copy of Blood Veil by Megan Erickson from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was a little leery about reading a novel from an on-going series (i.e. not the first novel), but the summary was intriguing and it did mention this could be a standalone in the series. Happily, I requested Blood Veil and received a copy to read.

Overall, this book did not disappoint. The main characters, Celia and Idris, were likeable and the plot of Blood Veil moved along with decent dialogue.

This was an easy, fun read and I would read other novels by this author.

This book takes off exactly where book 1 Blood Guard ended. The story focuses on a returning character Idris and Celia who is newly introduced in this book. I think I prefer book 1 more than to this book. We also learn what the Veil is and its something that seems new, that I think I haven't heard before. What happened with Celia's dad caught me off guard. I also caught a "Twilight" reference that I'm not too entirely sure I liked.

Celia, child of foster care, has no knowledge she is from the vampire world. Idris, brother of the king of the Gregori clan out for vengeance against the Valerian clan. Charged to watch Celia, a Valerian princess, so they can use her to open peaceful negotiations to stop humans from finding out they exist. Their lives entwined and they grow closer as they realize they are meant for each other amid the revelations and betrayals. Good second book in the series. The use of a blatant pivotal "Twilight" scene did not do it for me. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book from Netgalley.

I'm really impressed with the Mission City series so far (and I'm hoping there will be more stories in this world!). Megan Erickson has totally revamped vampires for me, and I love her grungy, rough-and-tumble Mission City. As much as I loved Athan and Tendra, I didn't think I'd be able to love another couple more, but Celia and Idris were a delightful surprise!

I love that it takes Celia a while to come to grips with her identity as a dhampir and the daughter of the king of a vampire clan. It's great that she doesn't accept it immediately. And Idris learning to accept his place as brother of the king after decades of believing he was next in line as leader of the Gregorie. And the tension between these two is fantastic and truly shines through some amazing dialogue.

The stakes are still high, and Blood Veil is just as action-packed as Blood Guard so I was hooked right from the start and read it in just a couple hours. My only complaint is that I want to know more! Why did Celia's father never try to contact her? How did Keno get in contact with the former Gregorie king? What will happen to the Valarians? I want more books in this incredible series, and I'd love for them to be longer, to really go in depth to explore Megan's vampire mythology. The politics and prophecies are fascinating, and I just need more!

Idris, brother to the King of the Gregorie vampire clan has been tasked with watching Celia until it's time to kidnap her. The Gregorie plan to use her as a bargaining chip with her father, the King of the Valerian vampire clan. Celia doesn't know that she's half human and half vampire but she finds out soon when attacked in her own apartment by hired killers. Idris wants to hate the daughter of his enemy but he can't. Great paranormal romance!

I adored the first book in this series, and this one was really great as well. The characters are very relatable, especially for a paranormal romance, and I loved the connection between the hero and heroine.

Idris Gregorie is the brother of the hero from book 1, Athan. Idris had quite a rude awakening in book 1, realizing he wasn't who he thought he was, who his father had groomed him to be. Turns out Athan is the eldest, and therefore the King, and Idris is the younger brother. Idris has always been too impetuous, too emotional, too prone to act on his feelings, rather than thinking things through. Athan will make a much better king than he ever would have. But, where does that leave him? For now, it leaves him watching the dhampir (half vampire-half human) daughter of the King of their rival clan, the Valarians. He needs to use her as a bargaining chip, to gain access to the King, so Idris can kill him for everything he's done, and tried to do to the Gregorie clan. He never plans on having such a strong reaction to her.

Celia Valerie is an orphan. She grew up in foster care, and she's always taken care of herself, never relying on anyone for anything, sometimes to her detriment. She's a nurse at the hospital in Mission City, and she lives a pretty lonely life. Until one night, a scary creature tries to murder her in her own apartment, and a sexy stranger saves her life, then kidnaps her. When Idris tells her of her parentage, she can't believe any of it is true. Is he crazy? Or does this info finally cause a lot of other things in her life to make sense? She's not sure. But, she does know that to stay safe from the things trying to kill her, and to maybe get to finally meet her father, she has to stick close to Idris, and stay alive. She doesn't know what to do with all the unfamiliar feelings that Idris gives her though, because she knows something between them could never work out.

Idris and Celia had great chemistry and really good banter. I loved their awkward interactions at first, and how comfortable they became with each other by the end. Neither of them expected the feelings they had to pop up, and Idris really struggled with them, due to his hate for her clan. But, she wasn't really a part of that clan, in any way other than blood, and he starts to realize his mistake in thinking she would be like them at all. Celia was a truly selfless person, and I enjoyed watching her layers get peeled back as the story went on.

I also enjoyed seeing the side characters, both from book 1, as well as the short story prequel. I just wish we had seen more of my favorite side character from book 1, Zeb. If he doesn't get his own book eventually, I'll be so distraught! I NEED to know more about him and get inside his head! Hopefully we'll at least get a short story for him at some point.

I love a star-crossed lovers story, and that's exactly what I got here, complete with denial over, and guilt for, their feelings. It was executed very well, in between the massive suspense storyline of keeping Celia alive. I enjoyed watching everything unfold, and I loved the resolution. Some things that happened along the way were quite a surprise, and I loved that. Nothing is worse than an utterly predictable storyline in a suspenseful PNR, and this was NOT that. I really enjoyed it so much.

I highly recommend this book, and this series, to anyone who loves great paranormal romance, especially vampire PNR. I have truly loved getting to know these characters, and I hope this isn't the last we'll see of them.

****ARC received for an honest review****

”’Never knew it was possible to feel like this. To crave someone so deeply, to be consumed with it. Every breath I take is for you.’”

Idris (we met him last book) is consumed with revenge and ruled by emotion. Celia is an unwitting (and unknowing) vampire princess - and the perfect tool for his revenge. As Idris gets to know Celia his ideas of retaliation begin to waver. Celia is kind, giving and passionate. Is Idris still going to use her to lure her father to her death?

Celia and Idris are both passionate - she cries a lot and he gets mad at everything. Both make bad decisions due to their feelings (hello, frustrated reader). However, they’re tempered by one another - becoming calmer together and making one another more likable.

The books in this series are short, action-packed and fun. There was a pleasant buzz in revisiting Athan and Tendra. And our world grew with more characters and potential story-lines. Definitely an enjoyable read for my vampire-romance lovers.

**I received a copy of Blood Veil from Net Galley and Loveswept in exchange a voluntary and honest review**

Blood Veil is the second book in Megan Erickson Mission vampire series. I highly recommend reading the previous book first before diving into this one. The first story had Athan and Tendra and in this addition you're introduced to Athan's brother Idris. He's sent to Mission City to find Veils who is the Valerian princess.

Celia has been always been alone first as a orphan and foster child and then as a nurse at the hospital. Her one friend is Monica and her son Charlie who has cancer are the people she is most close too. But she will do anything for her little friend even if she knows there's no cure. Little does she know that a Group of Valerian vampires and Quellans are out to kill her because she has the Blood veil. Since she never knew her parents or that vampires existed she'll fight them with the help of Idris against them

Idris has one goal finding out where the Valerian princess is and if she knows where her father is. But there's a teensy problem Celia doesn't know who it what she is or that she has a family. They escape just barely and manage to evade the new leader of the Valerian Keno. Will they be able to evade them and get to Athan in time? Can Celia and Idris find a life together once they understand what being a Blood Veil means to the both of them?

I loved this story, great characters, I enjoyed the different twist on the typical vampire story. I didn't read book 1, but I didn't feel like was missing anything vital. I cried.... he is so endearing that I fell for his soft heart.

I absolutely love paranormal reads and Blood Veil was a good read. This story is a continuation of the first story so if you haven't read the first book I would recommend reading that one first just to know who the characters are that appear in this book. I enjoyed the main characters Celia and Idris. I didn't feel that deep bond between them that I was hoping for, but there was definitely a connection between the two. The storyline was a good one; steamy scenes with action and revenge. The story flowed at a great pace and kept me wanting to read more. I finished the book in one sitting and was completely happy with the ending. I definitely look forward to reading more books from this author in the future. This is a great read for paranormal lovers.

The second story of the series is about Idris and Celia. Once again the author help us delve into her unique vampire world and the war luring between the vampire clans. The narration is fast-paced with the perfect balance and interchange of action to hot scenes. The story is full of emotional charge and I liked the dept of her characters.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I found myself getting lost in this vampire world. I liked so much the unique pints that the author has brought to this series to differentiate her world like the club where the vampires feed, the various types of legends, etc. I was so hooked up with the book that I end up reading it in a relaxing Saturday afternoon. Really great job. Looking forward for the next one.

I’d give this 3.5 stars. I hadn’t heard of this series until it showed up on Netgalley so I went and got book 1 intrigued by the premise. Now I really enjoyed Athan and Tendra and while I didn’t dislike Idris....he just wasn’t Athan.
This picks up basically exactly where the first ends, Idris on his mission for his brother, watching over the Valarian clan’s princess, Celia. Celia and Idris are great together and it wasn’t any easy start for either overcoming fears and preconceived notions. We get plot forwarding and the introduction of some new characters. I’d pick up the next in the series, should the author write it.
