These twins always seem to drop such amazing books and this one is no different. It was definitely something I wasn’t expecting to love as much as I did while reading it.
I love the Addicted/Calloway Sisters series, so it was cool reading something totally different from the Ritchie sisters. Very interesting concept and great characters.
Wow!!! Twin writers Becca and Krista Ritchie hit all the feels for me on this one. A perfect blend of fantasy, romance and sci-fi. Franny Bluecastle,Court Icecastle and Mykal Kickfall , break all the odds in an ice cold, freezing world, where everyone knows the day they will die ! Twist and turns will keep you from putting this one down,
Great entertainment. In true KB Ritchie style, you keep going to the end.
I am so beyond excited to have received this for review and honored to have been able to get an advanced reader copy. These lovely ladies are an instabuy for me and I couldn't be more thrilled that they have entered into the world of Young Adult.
I went into reading The Raging Ones trying to know as little as possible about the story because I wanted to be taken on a journey without knowing much of the destination and it was a thrilling ride, one that I would gladly enter into again. You better believe I'm purchasing the physical copy. I'm purposefully writing this review with as little details as possible because I fully believe you need to experience the story without any kind of spoilers.
Franny Bluecastle's life is turned upside down when her deathday comes and then passes without her dying, sending her into a whirlwind of emotions cascading around her, partly in the form of two boys (Court and Mykal) with whom she now has a strange, mysterious bond.
Thrust into a world of uncertainty, the three embark on a crazy mission: to join the Saga 5 and hopefully escape the perils that follow them if they were to stay on their planet.
I loved following these characters through their journey of self-discovery, romance, passion and strength. I loved the connection that they shared and their intense love for one another, even when they wanted it not to exist. I'm already excited to read the next installment, especially with the insane revelation at the end. I NEED ANSWERS AND I NEED THEM NOW! How am I possibly going to be able to wait??
I love krista and Becca ritchie!! Science fiction isnt really my thing but it is now since they wrote it. Their characters are so so so real and well developed and I absolutely loved it
This was unlike any book I've read before and I liked it!! The characters, the setting, everything was done fantastically!
Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
It's really close to a 4 but the things that lagged were too consistent, otherwise I thought this was one of the best reads of 2019. It's been a while since I've read a good YA sci-fi that turns me around, and it's my first time reading anything by these authors, so even more, I feel impressed by what I just read. It was interesting, unique in such a popular genre, and I loved the build-up. They concentrated on the most important things: the destination, and the people. I was excited when I realized this had a competition-type trope, but even though the first half only had our trio's journey to getting over to the whole excitement, I wasn't upset. I loved that they focused on the three of them and their relationship, I thought it built them up more solidly before then moving on to the other stuff.
The writing was really great at some parts but in others, it'd be redundant or seem a word/sentence too long and I'd lose the momentum. What I was really fascinated with were their characters; one, who's afraid of dying; the second, an underdog who thinks he's never enough, and a third who can either make or break their success. A few of their stories and strength would wobble here and there but when the points DID it, it was amazing. I enjoyed this book so much I immediately went to go get the second book, but since that won't be out for months, I'll hold off until then to get the duology's physical copies.
It's a definite recommend if you love stories being twisted on you. YA sci-fi is pretty hard to come by in my opinion and if you enjoy books that push the normal boundaries of what love means, check this out.
Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of Krista and Becca Ritchie, especially all their NA books. So I was super excited about this new venture of a YA sci-fi book as a reader. Honestly, I can say that I enjoyed and liked this book. However, I found it a bit slow in the beginning and would constantly put the book down and resume reading a few days later. The book definitely picks up by the second part and from there I read it consistently until the end. Now for the characters- Franny, Court, and Mykal- I enjoyed the development of their relationship especially the one between Franny and Court. There was no instant love/ instant trust from Franny when joining this pair of strangers who already had a close connection. I 100% believe what makes this book special and sets it apart from other YA novels is that in a book with one female main character and two males, the romance was M/M and Franny was 1000% here for it, being a great friend to both Mykal and Court. Also, Krista and Becca do heavy emotional scenes VERY well and I was not disappointed in the heavy scenes in this book. Overall I think this books deserves to be given a chance and so I recommend you pick up a copy. I'm not giving up on this duology and will be reading the sequel.

What a disappointment! Krista & Becca Ritchie excel at writing relationships and emotional situations. But what works in conemporary genre was not enough for this sci-fi/fantasy genre.
The setting wasn't as exciting as blurb suggested and I found myself bored here and there. It felt like nothing exciting was happening for a long time and banters were not fascinating enough for me to keep me entertained.
Morover, there was minimum characters history and almost none wolrd-building. Everything happened only among three main characters and bond/relationship between Court, Mykal and Fanny felt forced and impersonal.
Sadly, this is very weak YA sci-fi novel and I do not intend to read sequel.
I found THE RAGING ONES to be one of the more unique books I read last year, and the melding of the 3 voices (and the concept in its entirety) to be really well done and interesting. It did fall apart a bit for me at the end, though.

The premise of this was absolutely unique and I LOVED IT! the authors did a phenomenal job with this book keeping it unique to the scifi and dystopian world and setting it apart from the million other ones
The Raging Ones is an intriguing, albeit slow, YA science fiction novel. The book's biggest weakness is in its second act, where exposition continues from the first act and not many rising actions occur, making the book lag. I am glad I pushed through to he 60 percent mark, as the book really picks up. The wonderful characters make up for a pace that is not suited for my tastes. After the ending of The Raging Ones, I will most definitely be reading the upcoming sequel, which will be published in August of 2019.
I started this book twice, but couldn't get into the story. Perhaps it was not the right time to read YA fantasy, but I was not into this and couldn't get myself to really care for the characters. A pity, since I've heard nothing but good things about this. It feels that I've read so much YA fantasy and sci-fi that this one couldn't stand out, which could be the fault of having read many books like this one, but it just... felt like any of the other books I've read. Maybe I'll give this another try in the future!
This story is set in a freezing world where everyone knows the date of their death based on a test given at birth. Depending on how long they will live (Babe, Fast Tracker, Influential) each person has a certain outlook of life, type of job and education. But Fanny the Fast Tracker wakes up after her deathday and her world is turned upside down. She finds herself inexplicably tied to Court and Mykal. They realize the only way they will survive and thrive is to get into Stardust, the secret space travel division that is putting together a team for a mission. We follow the three of them as they try to act as Influentials, navigate their very odd relationship and try to succeed at Stardust. I enjoyed their relationship and how it was explored. The world was interesting and the twist at the end I certainly didn’t see coming (it actually made the book better!). I plan on picking up the next book in the series for sure.
.....i just couldn't get into this... I was very confused with it, I couldn't connect with it.. I just wasnt a fan... It was well written though and if your a scifi fan you'd probably dig this...
This was so intereting and had me hooked! The voice and storyline were fantastic, and the characters were amazing. When’s book two?!

The Raging Ones by Krista and Becca Ritchie
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I would like to start off by saying that I was a huge fan of Krista and Becca before they released TRO. I’ve been reading their romance novels for years and love their characters so much that I knew I had to read their YA sci-fi when it came out! I had the opportunity to receive an advanced copy of this book before the release in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much to Wednesday Books for giving me the opportunity!
While normally sci-fi isn’t my thing, I was willing to give it a try for these two lovely writers!
Let me set the scene with some fast facts.

The book opens by introducing you to the three main characters, Franny, Mykel, and Court. Each character get’s their own POV chapters, which I think makes the story richer! Somehow, all three of them have dodged their death days, and his experience has bonded them together. Literally. All three of them are Linked. All three can feel each other’s emotions, pain, sensations, etc. It’s really unique!! It’s like the bond from Vampire Academy but on crack lol.
When we meet the characters we learn that they need to scheme their way into StarDust, a new company focused on space travel. They con their way into being 3/1024 of those chosen to train and compete for 5 spots on the Saga-5 Mission, the first space travel trip in over 300 years! A good portion of the book focus’ on this and it entranced me instantly! It kind of gave me Divergent/The 100 vibes. Which is a high compliment for me because I love The 100 and while I didn’t love Divergent as much, my favorite part of the book was the training/competition portion of the book.
I don’t want to give any more away, but you are just going to have to trust me that this book is worth the read!
Side note: Back before I read this book, If I had bet on if this book would focus on a love triangle, I would have lost! While there isn’t Romance with a capital R, what romance there is happens to be between Mykel and Court! (Pictured below: the authors do have a capital R mlm romance in their Like Us series so check that out if you haven’t already!)

These authors are dear to my heart and I’m so thankful, grateful and honored to be able to participate in their blog tour!

This novel suffers from one major problem: that fact that it is far too long. This is quite a shame considering that the concept of the book is quite impressive by itself, but the problem is that there is too much exposition, too much narrative, that it slows down the pace of the novel to a crawl, making the reader very much aware of the length of the novel. There’s nothing wrong with long books, the problem is that the story, the action has to keep the reader engrossed enough that it doesn’t feel so long. I’ve read Tolkien, the classics, and those are long novels, but there’s something about the narrative, about the uniqueness of the story that allows the reader to lose track of the page number. This novel fails to do that, which is quite unfortunate.
Part of the problem is that the authors, they spend too much time on exposition. This shouldn’t be a problem, and typically it’s not, but the problem is that there is so much of it. For about half the novel, the reader is going back and forth on the same subject, the same subject of how these three characters have dodged their death days, thus forming a link between the three. A mention once or twice is enough for the novel, the reader understands that this information is essential, but the authors begin to hit the reader on the head with that knowledge, repeating that information again and again. There’s more information that could have been provided for the reader, more backstory on the characters themselves. If the authors are going to be spending this much time on exposition, it would have better benefited them to expand on this exposition, to expand on the characters and their pasts than on the fact that these three characters are tied together.
Now, that’s not to say that there aren’t some fun moments in the beginning. These are three very different characters, two men and one female, who have been thrown into this situation they have no control over, a position they are trying to navigate as much as they can. This leads to some humorous moments for the reader that allows for some character development and growth in the dynamics. If there is one thing the authors know how to do, it’s how to build characters. Their voices, the internal narrative of the characters, they are all distinct and powerful. The reader is able to get to know who these characters are, their struggles, and the fears they don’t want to face. Sure, everyone is afraid of death, that’s for sure, this novel sort of builds on that in the way it builds up the internal narratives and personalities of these characters.
The pace is what kills the novel. It goes much to slow and doesn’t pick up the pace until halfway through the story. Even after the halfway mark, the speed does linger on the slow slide, the change of situation keeps the reader interested because the tension rises, after much exposition, the pressure in the novel finally begins to increase, giving the reader a reason to be invested in the story and characters.
I'm not usually a huge fan of sci-fi/fantasy romance and I've been increasingly less interested in reading YA fiction, but I've loved everything I've read by Krista and Becca Ritchie, so I knew I had to give The Raging Ones a try. I'm so glad I did it because this book was so good!
I loved the world they built, the idea of everyone knowing when they die and how that impacted one's role in that world. I feel like I'd gladly read a book about this universe.
However, there was more to the story than world-building and that's where things get really good. Franny, Court and Mykal are the main characters, and contrary to what it might seem from the blurb, there is no love triangle - so those who absolutely hate those can rejoice and read this book.
The dynamics between the characters are really interesting and I can't wait to see how their story progresses.
This book ends in a cliffhanger, which I know is not everybody's favourite thing, but it did make sense for the ending to be like that, as it set up what's coming in book 2 perfectly.
I really enjoyed this story! I love the idea of a bunch of kids trying to strike out into the world. The bond they created throughout the story was wonderful to watch unfold. Great book for high school age!
