Bring Me Back A Novel by B. A. Paris is a great read. I have read a few books by this author and tend to devour them all this was no exception. B.A Paris has such a way with words that it made this a quick and fast paced read with awesome twists and turns. The story is about a woman who goes missing and whose husband is a prime suspect. While many compare this to Gone Girl I feel this stands on its own amazingly well without the comparison. British couple Finn and his girlfriend Layla, are on their way home from a skiing trip in France when he pulls into a secluded, dimly lit area late at night to use the restroom. When he returns to the car Layla is nowhere to be found!
Fast forward 12 years and Finn has moved on with his life, in fact he’s now in a relationship with Layla’s sister Ellen, and they’re living happily together in a picturesque Cotswold village. However if you know anything about the way this author writes then you know that happily ever afters do not last long at all. I will say this book gives you curve balls every few chapters , has awesome descriptions and is one of those books you have to tell everyone about. The story is unique and will find new and old fans pleasantly surprised. I loved the idea of Russian Dolls it adds a creepy factor to the story. Thank you to Netgalley and everyone involved in my receiving this arc.
I had high hopes for Bring Me Back after absolutely LOVING Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris, but sadly my expectations were not met. I kept pushing myself to pick up this book, hoping it would get better and suck me in. Unfortunately, that never happened. The writing was true to Paris's style and is the only reason I made it as far as I did in this book, but I simply could not get into this story or connect with the characters.
I voluntarily received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The twist was pretty predictable, but it was an entertaining, quick read that I finished in a day. I gave this 3 stars on goodreads.
Finn was in love with beautiful, red-headed Layla. They vacationed in France, and when she goes missing at a rest stop, Finn feels as if his whole life is spiraling out of control. How can he live without Layla in his life? Twelve years later, he’s now engaged to Ellen, Layla’s sister. Their relationship is a bit strained and tenuous. The threat of Layla’s return hovers between them like a poisonous mist.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s somewhat hard to talk about it without giving spoilers. It’s a suspense/mystery story and it keeps you wondering until the very end. Layla and Ellen used to play with Russian dolls when they were little (the dolls that come in a set and they fit inside of one another). Someone is mysteriously leaving these Russian dolls on their doorstep. Could this person be Layla?
I also loved reading a book set outside of the states. I’ve been mostly reading American novels and it was refreshing to read a European title. I highly recommend this book if you like a good, suspenseful read that’ll keep you guessing until the end.
This was really good. Finn's girlfriend Layla went missing 12 years ago and now he is about to marry her sister. They are very different people. It's difficult to compare the relationships, despite the fact that they are sisters. When it seems like Layla may have returned and starts leaving messages for them to find, Finn starts questioning everything. I couldn't put this down. I really enjoy this author's books. Things are never quite what they appear and I find it fun to guess what's really going on. Because they aren't predictable. It took me quite a while to figure out what was going on in this book, which is how I prefer for it to be. The author has an incredible imagination.
This book was so good! Kept me turning pages with a really good twist at the end. I enjoyed this one more than “behind closed doors.”

I really enjoyed this yet again! BA Paris is becoming a favorite author. I was guessing for most of the book. I’ve seen some people figure it out super early, but that wasn’t me. I had a few theories and one of them was correct, but I was never positive. I love her writing and these characters were incredibly flawed and well fleshed out. Overall I just really enjoyed reading this the whole way through.
Finn and Layla are on a trip back from Paris when Layla disappears and is never found. Twelve years later Finn becomes involved with Layla’s sister, Ellen and plans to marry her. Strange things begin to happen to Finn leading him to believe Layla has returned.
This book had me rapidly turning pages to find out what was going to happen next and to find out if Layla really had returned after missing for so many years. The way it is written keeps both the interest and suspense level high. I was a little disappointed in how the end reveal was handled or it would be a five star book for me.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel.
Thanks to Net Galley and St Martin’s Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.
A psychological thriller which grips the readers attention from page one. I liked Finn the main character a lot,
12 years ago Finn’s girlfriend Layla, who he was besotted with, disappeared, they had an argument the night she disappeared, information which Finn withheld from the police. Finn is trying to put his life back together and is now dating Ellen, they have just announced their plans to marry. Ellen is Layla’s sister, very different from Layla, no flaming red hair, much slimmer, dresses differently and does everything she can to keep Finn happy.
Mysterious things begin to happen, the couple begin to think Layla may be alive after all, is it Layla who has left the Russian doll for them to find, is it really Layla that is emailing Finn. Why has she decided to come out of hiding after 12 yeas.
An enjoyable read though the ending was a little unbelievable.
B. A. Paris took everyone by storm with her debut novel Behind Closed Doors (which, I have to say, had the very best marketing campaign ever! I was getting postcards and notes from the book characters and was completely freaked out by it all!).
Her second novel, The Breakdown, was engaging, but I had figured it all out quite early on in the novel (first third), so I didn’t find it as compelling.
Her latest novel, Bring Me Back, is another suspenseful thriller (I love this genre!) where a man’s life is being turned upside down when his “missing” fiancee appears to have returned to him, and he is set to marry her sister.
This did keep me guessing, and I thought I had figured it out, but was wrong, then I re-thought and was right. I did enjoy it and couldn’t put it down. If you like the thrill of books like those of Lisa Jewell and Jillian Flynn and Paula Hawkins, then you will probably like B. A. Paris!
Thank you for my e-copy via Net Galley!
Bring Me Back by B. A. Paris is an exciting thriller that I loved. First of all I don't like horror books, I just enjoy some twists and turns in my mysteries, and this one was great. Finn and his girlfriend Layla were in France after a ski vacation. On their way home they stopped at a dark rest stop, so Finn could us the restroom, when he comes back to the car Layla was gone. Ten years later Finn is engaged to marry Layla's sister Ellen, when strange things start happening. Wow, this book was good, with well developed plot and characters. I will be reading more book by this author. I strongly recommended this book for mystery lovers.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
First it was Layla and Finn, then after Layla's mysterious disappearance it was Ellen and Finn. Ellen is Layla's older sister...
At a stop off on a trip home, Finn returns to the car to find that Layla has disappeared and he cannot find her anywhere. That's his story and he's sticking to it. Significant searches found no trace of Layla forcing Finn to move on.
Ten years later, moving on from Layla with the help of her sister Ellen, Finn pops the question and the two are set to be married. This is when the tide shifts and hints of Layla's presence begin to surface. Sightings by neighbors and Ellen herself, mementos special to Layla and Ellen appear, emails sent to Finn show up claiming she has returned. After all this time, has she come back to put an end to Finn and Ellen? Ellen is so sure it's Layla and after all that is happening Finn is not far from this belief.
The plot of this tale takes you on unexpected ups and downs and even had me tricked until the last few pages. Good read!
A spooky, can't-put-down, thriller! Paris uses a seemingly harmless prop to elicit spine-tingling fear. Twists and turns ensure the reader a roller-coaster ride of intrigue. I will definitely be reading more from author, B.A. Paris! Fans of Shari LaPena and Emily Carpenter will enjoy this book!
Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for the ARC for review. My opinions are my own.
I was thrilled to receive this book for review as I am a fan of the author's work. This book was worth the wait. It was a compelling twisting mystery that kept this reader guessing until the finale. I loved the story of a happy couple stopping at a road stop, the man goes in and woman disappears from the locked vehicle. Years later sightings occur just as he is ready to marry her sister ! One cannot help but hate the male character which is the mark of a great writer. I was drawn in from the beginning. I loved the story. Great suspense and a intriguing story line with a fabulous sleuth. Very well done to the author.
I have really enjoyed the previous two books by B A Paris, and had great hopes for this one. Unfortunately, I took an immediate dislike to the main protagonist of this book, Finn, that I never got over. I could not understand how any of the three women in his life: Layla; Ruby and Ellen (at least one of whom was completely sane), could have been so attracted to such a shallow, self-obsessed man. Even more inexplicable, was why Harry would continually bail him out of whatever mess he managed to dig himself into.
Finn is certain that he knows the women in his life very well. As things go wrong, he continually asserts that ‘she’ wouldn’t do that, ‘she’ is not that cruel – before accusing ‘her’ of all manner of cruelty, manipulation and dishonesty – and then exonerating ‘her’ on the basis of equally flimsy evidence. Finn is clearly delusional. He has very set ideas of how everyone should act – and can never admit that he may be mistaken. He patently cares little for the feelings of those he claims to love.
Finn addresses whole chapters directly to Layla – the woman, whom he believes to be dead. I found this rather creepy, and it did nothing to make him more sympathetic in my eyes. He lives in a secret world of his own, dripping out bits of information only when forced to – so those who might help him are always kept at bay.
I spent most of the book wishing it would end, and only rating it two stars – but the ending (although not a complete surprise) redeemed it. If you can put up with Finn for three quarters of the book, you will be well rewarded at the end.

I was very lucky to snag an advanced copy of this book. It was in high demand and not everyone who wanted one got one. So I was super excited to read this. I couldn’t believe my good fortune. I really am never that lucky. This might have amped up my expectation for an outstanding read. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the book. But I don’t think it lived up to all of the hype.
Meet Finn. Ten years ago, the love of his life, Layla, disappeared. They were returning from a romantic getaway in France, when Finn stops at a highway rest stop to use the facilities. When he returns from the bathroom, Layla is gone. All her belonging, purse, money and phone are in the car. It’s as if she vanished into thin air. Was she taken? There was another car there that night and Finn saw a man walking back to his car. The police searched but never found any clues. The paper covered the story but no one ever called with information. There were never any ransom demands. It was obvious to Finn that everyone around him suspected that he killed her, even the police, but no one could prove it because he didn’t do it. He would never hurt Layla. Except that maybe he did. Finn knew he was capable of violence. And, I mean, he did lie to the police.
In the present day Finn has finally moved on, is happy and engaged to Ellen. Ellen helped him get over the loss of Layla. Oh, and Ellen happens to be Layla’s sister. But that’s what made it so easy. They shared a love of Layla. Ellen understood how much the loss meant to Finn because she felt it too. But now, someone is playing games with him, pretending to be Layla. After all this time, could it be her? What happened? Is she even alive? Is this the person who hurt her? And if it is her, why did she stay away all this time? Why is she reaching out now?
This book was just okay for me. To be honest, I expected more. I wanted to feel the suspense and I just didn’t. I figured out the ending pretty quickly so it didn’t come as a big shock. It sort of spoiled it. But I have read other novels where I have figured out the ending, but I still really enjoyed the process of getting there. I didn’t enjoy it as much with this novel. I was happy to read on, but I didn’t have the emotional connection to the characters to care what happened to them. I am not fond of the style where the characters have all the information at the beginning of the story and you just have to wait until they (or the author) decide to share it with you. I hope I am explaining this properly. There is no mystery, per se. When I read this genre I want to feel like I am driving down a beautiful coastal highway that is full of twists and turns, ups and downs and gorgeous scenery that distracts you, you don’t know where to look and you don’t know what is coming up ahead. I don’t mind being led down the garden path but there has to be a pay off at the end. I almost resent it when it is just information that is being withheld until it isn’t. That is the big twist. I’m just not a fan unless the story is so compelling it makes up for the lack of being clever. But I digress, not fair to go on a rant on this one particular book.
So not a bad read, just not as amazing as I had hoped. I still give it 3 stars. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts about the ending. Did you see it coming? Was it believable? Let me know in the comment section!
I missed B.A. Paris’ previous runaway bestsellers, Behind Closed Doors and The Breakdown, but I’d heard so much about each novel I was determined to find out what the hype was about. With Bring Me Back Paris has written a psychological thriller sure to keep readers turning pages. It is the simple story of a couple, Finn and Layla, and the tragic circumstances that separate them. They stop at a service station for Finn to use the bathroom, and when he comes back out Layla is gone, never to be seen again. Years later, Finn has taken up with Layla’s sister, Ellen, and is clearly moving on with his life. Then comes the shocking news that someone has seen Layla alive. Someone knows the truth of what happened that fateful day. They also know that Finn did not tell the whole truth. The road to finding answers in this novel is littered with revealed secrets and surprising twists.
Finn and Layla seem to have it all. Although young they are financially set for life, have an idyllic cottage that they call home and plan t marry soon. But on their way back from skiing holiday Layla vanishes. One moment she's waiting for Finn in their car, the next she's gone. At least that is one version of events.
Ten years later Finn is engaged to Ellen, Layla sister.Their grief drew the together and no they're making things official. But then there's a sighting of Layla followed by a series of odd and sinister occurances. Could Layla be alive and if she is why is she back now?
This is only B.A.Paris's third book but her novels are becoming a small publishing event. And maybe that is a problem as this really doesn't live up to the hype. The start is promising but it quickly descends into a rather silly plot. As I realised where it was heading I really hoped I was wrong but no, it really was that daft. Which is a shame as I'm all for suspending disbelief but this was just a step too far for me. This is really not up to scratch compared to her previous offerings but I live in how her next book is back to her usual standard.
I really liked this book. Keeps you guessing until the end. I definitely liked it better then Behind Closed Doors. Very suspenseful and love the twist. Definitely would recommend this book.
A compelling thriller with one of the better twist endings I've come across in recent years! I skipped B. A. Paris's earlier books, but enjoyed this enough that I'm moving her other novels to the top of my list.
