Very suspenseful. I did not see the ending coming. This is a great book, easy reading style that kept the book interesting with a lot of loopholes. I thought, for sure, I knew the ending, but when it came down to the character finally looking into what I was thinking - NOPE! I highly recommend this book!
I think that I have mixed feelings about this book. The whole time I felt like the characters were repeating themselves and there was not progression. On the other hand I couldn't put it down. Every time I turned around I thought that I had it all figured out, the next minute that would all change. The point of view was told from Fin and Layla both. I think that I figured out what was going on about 60% through the book. I loved seeing how she put together the ending and how the characters finally are "reunited". I think that it made me more than a little sad.
From the author of Behind Closed Doors did it again. Bring Me Back will keep you guessing til the end. It’s abiut a young couple who starts receiving ‘gifts’ from his missing girlfriend who happens to be his new loves sister. You won’t want to put it down!
Bring Me Back is a solid psychological suspense about a man who finds himself in a love triangle that pulls him in two directions, the past and the present. There's great tension throughout the story and twists along the way that keep you guessing until the last page. The more I think about the story now that I've finished it the more the details fit together and I keep analyzing the whole situation.
I really liked the love triangle that forms in the story. Finn loves Ellen because they bonded over losing Layla and he likes the life he leads now; but when the idea of Layla still being alive and potentially coming back to him is plausible, Finn struggles with staying in his current relationship or potentially leaving Ellen to go back to Layla. I really liked this tension and how Finn starts to question everything. The format of the story provided a good sense of how maddening Finn's situation was for his character. The format, pacing, and multiple perspectives all build tension within the story.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys psychological suspense mysteries about couples, relationships, and how the past doesn't always stay in the past.
Ms. Paris does not disappoint with this book, I loved it just as much as I loved the other 2! The twists and turns and ups and downs pulled me in each and every page.
The one thing that I love about each and every book of Ms. Paris, is that she doesn't give you any useless information, she tells it like it is and you can picture each and every sentence.
The premise of the story is that a young couple is on vacation in France and the husband pulls over to use the rest room and he comes back out and his wife is gone.
He goes through years of not knowing and begins to date again.
Weird things begin to happen and he feels as if he's either going crazy and maybe she's still alive?
3.5 stars
I am not entirely sure how I feel about Bring Me Back and what to write for my review. I find myself wondering if I am forever ruined from being able to read anything by B.A. Paris and NOT compare it to Behind Closed Doors. Behind Closed Doors was unlike any book I have ever read, ever. I have never been so captivated or flipped the pages so fast in a frenzy to find out what the heck was going on. I may have read that entire book in less than 24 hours.
Now I find myself continually wanting to read books by Paris and expecting that same intensity I felt when I read her debut novel. And yet, I find myself disappointed when that doesn’t happen. Maybe it’s not fair, actually, it isn’t fair. Because Paris is one heck of a storyteller, she weaves such a story that you can’t trust, that keep you guessing and keeps you turning pages quickly. One book should not influence the review of another, yes?
So with that, Bring Me Back has everything that a psychological thriller should. Suspicious characters, unreliable narrators and the feeling of what is actually going on??? I read this book pretty quickly and I was engrossed. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat as you delve deeper and deeper into Finn and Layla’s past and as Finn slowly starts to unravel.
Bring Me Back is fairly short, and probably could have used another 25-30 pages to allow for deeper character development. We really see into Finn and Layla, but it would have been nice to get a little deeper connection with Ruby and Harry. I felt that there could have been more there for us and that the secondary characters were a little glossed over. However, the story being told is still a darn good one.
In the end, I settled on 3.5 stars. I highly recommend this book, and I absolutely will be keeping my eye out for anything new that B.A. Paris writes. I am a fan. And I will read anything she puts out there for us.
B.A. Paris’s new thriller does not disappoint. Although the ending was a bit lackluster and the main twist highly improbable, it was still an entertaining page turner. Fantastic beach read and exactly what we’ve come to expect from a great author!
A good travel or beach book. This thriller starts off with a wow and then meanders a bit in the middle tie ramping up again at the end. Finn, Layla, and Ellen. Finn was engaged to Layla, who disappeared while they were in France but now he's engaged to her sister Ellen (is that weird?). AND then, little Russian dolls start showing up. Is Layla alive? Is she doing this or is someone else? No spoilers but you will find yourself turning pages. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
Psychological thriller that had me reading around the clock. Amidst new psych thrillers being published daily, this one stood on its own and kept me guessing the entire book. This was one I had NO idea how it was going to end until the very last page. It's told from multiple perspectives, but is still easy to follow and relate to each character "talking". Definitely recommend Bring Me Back!
This mixture of domestic drama and psychological suspense gets a 3 star review from me.
Bring Me Back is told from two POVs - Finn's and Layla's. They are an English couple, soon to be engaged and passionately in love. They have gone away on holiday in France. When returning, Finn stops at a roadside rest area to use the bathroom, and when he comes out, Layla is gone. No sign of her anywhere. Finn is arrested on suspicion of her murder, but ultimately let go as there is no proof that a murder occurred. No one ever see Layla again.
Twelve years have passed, and Finn has moved on with his life. He is engaged again, to Ellen, who happens to be Layla's older sister. He didn't seek Ellen out, they just naturally formed a pair after spending lots of time together along with a mutual friend. Layla will always be Finn's first and true love, but life with Ellen is good too. She's steady, agreeable, calmer than her younger sister was, but she's comfortable to be with. Finn is happy.
Until he gets a call from his old next door neighbor who says that he saw Layla. Not too long afterwards, Ellen herself claims that she has seen Layla as well. Meanwhile, Finn is finding little Russian dolls (meaningful to him from a childhood story Layla had shared with him), and begins to get emails from someone claiming to be Layla. Could Layla really be alive? Where has she been and why is she showing up only now? Is it because she is upset about Finn's recent engagement to her sister? Ellen, now too, begins receiving the dolls, and is upset, wanting to know if Layla is indeed back, who will Finn choose to be with? Is it really Layla, or is someone just messing with their heads, trying to interfere with their happiness.
The emails escalate in intensity and put a time limit countdown in place for Finn to take action in breaking away from Ellen before "Layla" reveals herself. Will he do as he's requested, or will the emailer take action on his/her own?
I must admit, that though I had part of the end figured out, I still was completely surprised by some of it!
A good fun read, nothing exceptional, but entertaining.
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the first two books by this author, and I couldn’t wait to read her latest one.
The book goes back and forth between things that happened twelve years ago and the present. While interesting, the beginning just doesn’t have the tension and edge-of-your-seat writing that appeared in the other ones. Perhaps part of this is due to the point of view coming from largely flawed, abusive character, Flynn. It’s really hard to like him. In previous books by B. A. Paris, I remember feeling more sympathy toward the characters who started out being the most important in the book. Because it is by Paris, I kept going even though I felt a bit bored by the beginning; sooner or later, I knew, things would pick up,
And pick up they did! I had several guesses about what could be going on—some of them dashed later on, but one was kind of right. While I didn’t like this quite as much as the first two, it was still ok.
Ten years ago, Finn’s girlfriend Layla went missing when they stopped at a rest stop somewhere in France. Ten years later, he’s engaged to be married and his fiancée is none other than Layla’s sister Ellen. His past is only a very small part of his life now and everything seems to be fine, until he comes home from work one day and finds his wife-to-be sitting on the couch with something in her hands only her missing sister could have sent her.
I really liked the synopsis of “Bring Me Back” and thus was incredibly excited to pick up this book. It sounded like something I would really enjoy and even though I didn’t end up falling in love with this book, I also can’t say that I had to force myself through it. It was definitely a very quick read and I practically flew through the book, but unfortunately it didn’t exactly live up to my expectations.
Right at the beginning of the book when there was a flashback of the day of Layla’s disappearance, I had an idea of what had probably happened and how this book would end. I was really hoping I would be wrong, and B.A. Paris would manage to surprise me but she didn’t. The book ended just the way I thought it would end which was rather unfortunate. I’m sure it could have surprised someone who doesn’t really read mystery but even I, a person who only occasionally reads books from this genre, had already seen this kind of a plot a couple of times before.
Another thing I didn’t really like were the characters. I didn’t care about any of them and none of them were interesting or unique. They all felt pretty flat and some of the decisions they made were pretty absurd.
So overall, “Bring Me Back” is a book that doesn’t necessarily make me want to pick up any of B.A. Paris’s other works and I decided to only give it two stars. All in all, it was an okay read but even though it’s supposed to be a gripping mystery, it’s a book I probably won’t be able to still tell you a lot about at the end of this month.
A disappointing follow-up from B.A. Paris. The characters in this book are boring and unlikable. There is nothing redeeming about any of them. I didn't care how the story ended - I just wanted it to end.
This masterfully crafted psychological thriller will have your head spinning, and you will still be thinking about it long after you turn the final page.
The narrative structure starts off with a "then and now structure", then changes to the present as the book progresses. The author writes with a fast pace, including so many variables and plot twists that you will be guessing until the final pages. It is almost impossible to write a proper review for risk of spoiling the overall plot.
The author does a nice job with character development and backstory. Twelve years after the disappearance of his girlfriend, Layla, Finn still thinks about her often. Bizarre coincidences start to occur for him and his fiance, Ellen, who also happens to be Layla's sister.
Finn must step back into his past in order to confront the present threat. Foreshadowing hints at what might have happened all those years ago when Layla disappeared, and the plot really thickens as secrets are exposed in the alternate plotline. The truth finally comes to light at the end of the book in a shocking twist you won't see coming.
I would recommend this book to fans of psychological thrillers and suspense. I received this as a free ARC from St. Martin's Press on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The story moves along at a fast pace but at times I was really confused. I really don't know what to think of Finn -- rather dense, perhaps. I didn't find the story very believable. Layla/Ellen had serious issues, the product of a mean, alcoholic father. I'm sure some readers will enjoy the twist to this tale.
A young British couple are on holiday when they stop at a rest stop. He goes into the restroom and she stays in the car. When he returns to the car she is gone.
10 years later he is engaged to her sister when he starts receiving emails that she is alive. A lot of going on and who is sending the emails and why. I had an idea about 3/4 of the way through on what was happening. I read this real quick and really enjoyed it.
A 4 star read. I was sucked in after the first 50 pages. The twist at the end was unexpected and kept me on my toes until the final page. I would definitely recommend this book and any BA Paris book!

Reading this will leave you sleep deprived and scratching your head with wonder at what is going on! Cleverly written and fast paced, you’ll have trouble putting it down to get to other tasks at hand.
I have read all 3 of BA Paris’ books (I have to admit the Breakdown was my favorite!) and have found them all entertaining and suspenseful. It’s super hard to write a non-spoilery review of her books, though, at least for me. This one begins with Finn. He and his girlfriend Layla are on a road trip when Layla disappears during a bathroom break. She is never seen again and he is totally heartbroken. He and Layla’s sister Ellen help each other through their grief and eventually fall in love. Then things start getting strange... Reports of Layla sightings start and other odd things that don’t add up. Has Finn told the truth about their last moments together? Is it possible she is still alive? What is going on?? Read this book to find out!!

She does it again! B. A. Paris has written another book that kept me glued to the pages throughout from beginning to end. Like with her previous books, I found myself immersed in the sometimes far-fetched story holding my breath until the stunning conclusion. I had glimmers of thought throughout the book as to what had happened, what was going to happen - - but still I didn't really see the whole picture until the end.
I hope the author is hard at work on her next book. I'll be waiting for it!
If you haven't read any books by B.A. Paris you must start. Her books are so intriguing that you are unable to put them down. This book is so good.
The boyfriend Finn has been searching for the girlfriend Layla for years, He thinks she is dead but he starts getting texts from her. He thinks someone is playing a trick on him or are they. Then his new girlfriend which is Layla's sister starts finding russian nesting dolls. Hold on to your seat!
