I really enjoyed this book. The narration between characters kept it entertaining and unique. The mystery kept me constantly on my toes trying to figure out what was going on and what had happened to Layla. I had a hunch what was going on towards the end, but there were still pieces that I didn't put together until the last few pages. This is a great thriller and one I would recommend to others.
This book was excellent. I loved this author's other book BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, so I knew I had to get my grubby hands on a copy of her new one. And disappointed I was not. I was hooked from the first page and hated to set it aside for some sleep. It was well written and fast paced. The plot was engaging and kept me turning the pages. The characters were intriguing and well developed. Now, I will say that I figured out the twist pretty early one. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say I had a theory from very early on and that theory proved to be right. That said, the author did have me doubting myself more than once as I tried to figure out what exactly was going on and who was behind it all. So I wouldn't say the twist was obvious, just that I am damn good of Sherlocking things out. (lol)
Anyway, all in all, this was another fantastic book by this author. It provided me an entertaining and much needed break from the monotony that has become the romance genre of late. Very soon I will have to pick up THE BREAKDOWN and give it a read as well. Yours truly is giving this one two huge thumbs up.
I didn’t enjoy this book as I found none of the characters interesting or engaging and I thought the plot was unbelievable. It was an easy read but no tension to speak of and much more of a light drama or soap style story.
Entertaining but utterly ridiculous!
The plot is derived from a soap opera and the main character is a moron. However, it's a fun mindless read!
Unfortunately, I was less than impressed with Bring Me Back. I feel like all the soap opera watching I have done helped me to figure things out rather early on. I was hoping I was wrong, but sadly I was not. When all was revealed, I was laughing and I don’t think I was meant to be. I am capable of suspending disbelief but this goes beyond. I really could have cared less about Finn, Ellen, and Layla. They lacked depth and intelligence. Peggy the dog was the only character I cared about.
Despite all the issues I had, I did have fun reading this and I enjoyed how the Russian nesting dolls were woven in.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review.
B.A. Paris you have done it again. This book had me tuned in from the very first word until the end. This is going to be another best seller and now I’m trying to patiently wait for your next masterpiece. This book had me in an emotional twist all the way to the end.
This was my first B.A. Paris novel, so I went into this book with no expectations, other than hoping it would be a great read. I found this book to just be okay though compared to some other psychological thrillers I've read. This was more of a psychological drama and although it kept me entertained initially, it fell a bit flat in the middle and the ending was too rushed for my liking. This book took me a while longer to read than most, probably because it was way too long for the content and the middle wasn't that interesting to keep my attention.
I honestly had low expectations for the book as soon as I finished the prologue. so it set a bad tone for the rest of the book for me. It seemed as though a 2nd grader was telling the story of what happened to Layla the night she disappeared. The writing style did change a bit once the first chapter began, but I didn't like Finn right away. He seemed immature, naive and just weird. And the Russian Doll thing was a bit odd and something I can't relate to, but at least it added some dimension to the story.
The book did keep me semi-engaged in Part One. It was interesting to get the back story and then flip to the present, and for the most part, I didn't think Finn was too terrible in this part. Parts Two and Three seemed to drag on and weren't that interesting to me. I found Layla to be deeply disturbed and even questioned Finn's sanity. But it wasn't too hard to figure out the plot of the book after Part One.
The most disappointing part of the book is the ending. The last chapter was predictable and sad, but I hated the epilogue. It was way too brief to make me feel as though this story really had a conclusion. We're left with so many questions still and I'd have really liked to see what happened down the road.
WOW ! Did not see that coming. Not my usual genre but glad I gave it a whirl. Thank you Netgalley for leading me here...and beyond my usual novels.
Intriguing storyline of missing woman presumed dead who reappears after 12 years when her ex sets up home with her sister and marriage is discussed.
Mysterious happenings are the first hint that she may still be alive but it is not till the end that we can unravel what has happened in the intervening years.
Compulsive reading though ultimately none of the characters are that likeable except maybe one of the fringe characters. Good holiday read but leaves more questions than it answers.
A thought provoking novel that looks into the dissappearance of a young lady while returning from a skiing trip. It follows the boy friends tortured trip into despair and continues to his present state and the mental hell he is put through. In the finale all is revealed and will leave the reader with a lot to ponder upon.
I have rated this book 4 stars.
I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review.
In an age where thrillers are being churned out, Bring Me Back was a true standout. While it does follow a similar style to Gone Girl, the characters and the story are unique. It follows the story of Finn, whose wife disappeared without a trace while he briefly used the bathroom at a rest-stop. The book alternates between before she disappeared and after as readers piece together what truly occurred. For the first time in a long time, I decided to stay up almost all night to finish this one. I don't want to give too much away, but this book renewed my faith in the genre!
Finn's girlfriend disappears in the French countryside and 12 years later he is set to marry her sister when odd things start to happen. Reminders of his life with Layla begin to pop up and he starts wondering if he should find Layla and be with her or stay with her sister, Ellen. This does not make me like him very much. That and his apparent temper. Well, as always in these cases, what happened the night she disappeared isn't what Finn told the police. And no one else is really telling the truth either. I think the puzzle with these books now is to figure out which part of which statement is the truth and which part can't be trusted instead of following the story. The reader has to spend too much time determining fact from fiction that it takes away from the story itself. The conclusion was one of my three big guesses and I was surprised that it took Finn as long as it did to figure it out. But it made for an decent read.
Emotional Russian Roulette
I read a lot of thrillers and they are not all created equal. Bring Me Back is a psychological thriller with a blockbuster ending that is both shocking and tragic. It is the tragic element mixed in with the punch that had me most impressed and makes this novel a genre standout.
The story opens with Finn a wealthy finance investor and his girlfriend Layla traveling through France on their way back to London. Finn stops at a rest spot to use the restroom leaving a sleeping Layla in the car. When he comes back, Layla is missing. Finn witnesses a car leaving the rest spot but retains no identifying information.
Twelve years go by and Finn is now engaged to Layla’s sister Ellen when he starts receiving mysterious emails. It appears that Layla is still alive and wants to reconnect but she has certain conditions. Both Ellen and an elder neighbor also report seeing her on two separate occasions though Finn has yet to lay eyes on her. In addition, both he and Ellen start finding Russian nesting dolls in strange places. There is a significance to these dolls between the two sisters so now Ellen also believes that Layla is out there and trying to reconnect with both of them.
But why now?
Finn is desperate to meet with Layla and becomes secretive with Ellen. Ellen, sensing Finn’s distance begs him to contact the police and tell them what he knows. Finn is hiding secrets of his own and the story he originally told the police regarding Layla’s disappearance was not the whole truth. His obsessive-like love for Layla has clouded his current judgment and soon Finn is off on a wild goose chase for the love of his life while no longer knowing who he can trust. Everyone in his mind becomes suspect and his relationship with Ellen is threatened.
In a shocking turn of events, the past comes full circle and Finn is left to suffer a question that can likely never be answered. When I read the ending my first reaction was “no way could it have happened this way. I like an ending, no matter how outlandish, rooted in believability. However, I quickly came to appreciate the attention to detail and saw the consequences of an obsessive type love so self-absorbing, it blots out who the recipient really is and the life they have led.
BRB Rating: Read It.
A young British couple are driving through France on holiday when they stop for gas. He runs in to pay, she stays in the car. When he returns her car door is hanging open, she must have awakened because she's not inside. Is she still in the bathroom? No, kidnapped? No one ever sees her again.
Move forward ten years and life, as it does, has carried on. He’s engaged to be married; he's happy, and his past is only a distant memory. But will it stay that way? One day he comes home from work and finds his new wife-to-be is sitting on the sofa. There is an object she seems to be intrigued with as she turns it over in her fingers, holding it up to the light. It is an object that would have no worth to anyone else, and eerily, it is an object only he and she would know about. Why do you ask? His second wife is sister of his missing first love.
More questions are raised which puts a strain on their young marriage. Has his first love somehow come back to him after all this time? Or is the person who took her playing games with his mind?
This story is an intriguing and twisty novel that kept this reader guessing until the very end.
The support cast are all well-developed and kept my suspicion of their involvement in the disappearance. The actual reveal will make you say aaah yes, I should have seen that coming. But I didn’t.
Thank you St. Martin’s Press for granting me this ARC and the privilege of reading this excellent thriller.
A psychological thriller with so many twists! You just won’t believe it!
Layla was Finn’s love. The one who got under his skin. When she disappears he can’t imagine living life without her. Fast forward twelve years and slowly Finn has made a new life for himself when he meets and falls in love with Ellen.
Ellen happens to be Layla’s sister. They are so different, but they love each other and plan for their wedding.
This is when things begin to “happen”!
Whose doing these things and what is the motive?

I finished this book over a week ago, and honestly I am having the hardest time putting my thoughts and feelings together, because I was definitely left unimpressed. The first part of the book kept me turning pages and I was truly enjoying the story and then it was like I hit a WTH? brick wall. There was zero character development and Finn was, well, a narcissistic dick! I am all about suspending reality, but there was a lot of eye rolling. I guessed early on the “twist” between Layla and her sister Ellen, but that might be because I just read a book with a similar scenario. And then the ending happened, I am still dumfounded over that!! So, while I may have not enjoyed this book, lovers of this genre might.
Well done BA Paris! If you are a serious thriller fan, this book has everything you crave in a perfectly crafted thriller!
When Finn’s girlfriend Layla vanishes one night he’s left devastated. Like being frozen in time, he’s been unable to move on for years. Part of the problem… he can’t quite remember all the circumstances behind her disappearance.
Years later, Layla’s sister Ellen enters his life and he feels blessed to have another chance at finding love. But as is so often the case, the past has a nasty habit of finding its way to the surface.
If you’ve been reading reviews for this book you know that Russian Dolls make repeated appearances throughout. For some readers it was just too much. For me...I loved it! I had my own set of dolls growing up and it actually brought back some fond memories.
This book will keep you guessing to the final page. I had that rare fluttering of excitement the entire time reading this book. Couldn’t wait to see where it took me. And by the time I reached the end I was still left with a cliff-hangar moment. Delicious!
This is my third book by BA Paris and by far my favorite so far! Cannot wait for her next!!
A fantastic Traveling Sister read! 🤗💞
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and B.A. Paris for an ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
Bring Me Back was a great book. Keep me interested and engaged. I loved the plot twists. B A Paris is a fabulous writer who really knows how to grab my attention and keep me wanting to read
I’m the kind of gal that writes my reviews as I go along, so I don’t forget to bring up how I feel as I’m reading the book. So, I had almost a complete review written on Bring Me Back, which I just had to jettison when I got to the end. Everything I had felt for the characters as I was reading got thrown into turmoil when I got to the end. So here’s what I can tell you. This is a creepy book and there were several twists I didn’t see coming. I didn’t care for Finn. I couldn’t see what attracted him to Layla, let alone why he was obsessed with her. And I didn’t care for her character either.
And once I got to the end, I just felt like it didn’t really hang together very well. It was just way too unbelievable.
I wasn’t a huge fan of The Breakdown and I never read Behind Closed Doors. I’m thinking I’m just not a B. A. Paris fan.
My Thanks to netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advance copy of this book.
Guys, I loved B.A. Paris' latest book, Bring Me Back. Finn and Layla are young and in love. Until Layla goes missing while on vacation, never to be seen again. Brought together by grief, Finn eventually falls in love with Layla's sister, Ellen. And they're happy, until months before their wedding clues begin to surface that suggest Layla might still be alive. And she might want Finn back. I found this to be a total page turner- a contained thriller with a few red herrings thrown in that kept me guessing the whole time. Fans of The Woman in the Window will like this one!
I received this book for free for review from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press.
This book was twisted in so many ways. The back and forth views and uncertainty of the characters irritated me, but the overall premise kept me reading.
<spoiler>Finn and Layla have a whirlwind romance of sorts, until she disappears. The entire book is spent trying to uncover what really happened to Layla because even though Finn was there, he doesn't really remember what happened to her.
In the end, all I wanted to know was, what happened to Peggy? </spoiler>
Overall, I don't regret spending some time reading this, but I wouldn't recommend for people who read and enjoy a lot of thriller/suspense books because the "twists" are predictable for the most part. What can I say, it was a decent read.
