Another amazing book by Susie Lynes. Had me on the edge of my seat holding my breath.
Fantastic read with interesting characters. I love how the mother daughter relationship was described and it really struck a chord with me since I’m always struggling on the right thing to say to her!
Enjoyed this very much and is a good book to give teenagers to read. It portrayed the dangers of child grooming well . Made me sad throughout the book.
Oooooh! Have just finished The Pact and all I can say is now I see! What a belter of a book, it really is a fantastic read. At first I thought Toni was being a really overbearing mother but omg she had such valid reasons for being overprotective! I loved the relationship between Toni and her sister Bridget, Bridget was such a wonderful character, I want her on my side if I am in trouble! Daughter Rosie is your typical teenager, full of insecurities and drama, and in her longing to be accepted she starts keeping secrets from Toni. This book is so well written, the author obviously knows her stuff about the dangers of online manipulation.
I honestly couldn't put this book down, I had to know what was going to happen. I now have a serious book hangover! All three of this authors books are just wonderful, I would highly recommend them.
Toni and Bridget are as close as two sisters could possibly be. They share a dysfunctional childhood and they would do anything for each other. Rosie is Toni's child but because the three of them live together and are so close, they make up a very strong family unit together, a triangle. They don't have any faith in the police and even very serious matters get handled within the family, as is their way.
There is only one big problem in their lives: Rosie is growing up and thanks to her mother's overprotectiveness, she has had quite a sheltered upbringing. She is vulnerable to certain members of society who might not have her best interests at heart. Rosie, being the teenager she is, is trying to do her own thing, in her own way; if only her aunt and mum will let her! After all, everyone else has endless freedoms on social media, do they not?
This is a really incredible book. The characters are wonderfully described and have a great deal of depth. The sisters' relationship made me want to cry because that kind of unconditional love is a very rare thing indeed. Just as much care was taken with the secondary characters, so that you felt like you were actually THERE when Rosie went to the cafe and interacted with the waitresses, for example. The author is clearly an excellent storyteller :)
I found myself turning the pages faster and faster as the book went along, very gripping indeed!
I give this book 4.5 stars and recommend it highly. I can't wait to read what this author writes next!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
This is the third book I have read by Susie Lynes and all I can say is - well done Susie you have done it again!
This book should be on every high school curriculum to make youngsters understand the importance of befriending strangers on social media. The plot is intelligent and well crafted and the characters are compelling and believable. It is well written and fast paced with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing.
Highly recommend!!!
I enjoyed this book and thought it was really well written. I liked reading from the character’s point of view and although it started off quite slow, as it went on it picked up pace and I found myself itching to pick it up again to find out what was happening.
Another brilliant read from SE Lynes! I absolutely loved Mother and could not wait to read this one.. I started this in my lunch break today and just finished it tonight. It had me hooked straight away and I could not stop reading it.
The Pact is the story of 2 sisters who had a very traumatic childhood. 30 years ago they made each other a p poise. A promise that they might need to break to save Rosie. Rosie is Toni's 15 year old daughter who is lying unconscious in a hospital bed. Toni is super strict with her daughter after the death of her husband when Rosie was young. Her sister Bridget is always there to help and dotes on Rosie. Family, love and secrets... what will the family do when it all comes crashing down?
Highly recommend this page turner... thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest opinions
What a super novel! Really creepy at times, it kept me reading long into the night. Can’t wait for more from this author!
Wow! Another amazing, unputdownable, brilliantly written, fast paced and page turning story from this amazing author. I loved this book and could not bear to stop reading it - the story had me hooked from the first stunning page and I read it in one sitting - unable to stay away long enough to do other things. The characters are compelling and relatable, the writing exquisite. One of the best thrillers I have read from an author to watch. Brilliant. Unforgettable. Highly recommended.
I found this dragging in the very beginning of the book, but then after some chapters, I was literally hooked and enjoyed it so much! Loved that ending!
The Pact is the story of two sister, Toni and Bridget who are very close because of a pact that they made when they are younger. Rosie is Toni’s daughter who finds herself in a situation that becomes very unsafe. This is a very good book that I could not put down. Many twists that make you want to know what happens!
The Pact follows the lives of Toni and Bridget, two sisters who made a pact when they were children that they would always be there for each other and would never ask anyone else for help, but what happened in their childhood to make them do this and how does that now affect Rosie, Toni's daughter, 30 years later?
Toni is now a single parent to Rosie, who is 14 years old, after losing Stan in a car accident and is obviously very protective of her, she limits her daughter to what she can and can't do which is very frustrating for a teenage girl, so unsurprisingly Rosie keeps secrets which could have far reaching effects on her in the long run.
This story highlights what lengths family will go to, to protect loved ones, how social media can take over a persons life and people aren't always what they seem, however innocent they may portray themselves to be. The author creates characters that are instantly loveable and that is what I felt for the three main characters, although I have to admit Bridget was my favourite, she is everything you would want in a sister and was prepared to do anything she could to protect Toni and Rosie whatever the cost.
I was determined, when I started this book, to savour it and make it last, so I sipped it like fine champagne until about halfway through, by this point I didn't want to put it down and by 80% I was knocking it back like tequila. I was so engrossed in it during my lunch break today that I was 15 minutes late going back to work. I wanted to see how it ended but at the same time I didn't want it to end. I know I've said it before but this author is pure genius and this latest book is definitely in my top 5 books to date for 2018, I cannot wait to read her next one. Thank you to Bookouture for the auto approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and on Amazon on publication day. This book has earned 5 big fat stars from me, I would give it so many more if I could and I will be shouting it's praise from the rooftops for a long time to come.
The Pact is a gripping thriller! Full of suspense and intrigue! Twists at every corner! I enjoyed it, and would recommend it!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC copy of this from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have not read any of this author's previous work but now that I have finished this book, I will be looking for more. The book was fast paced and had many twists, I found it hard to put down.
An excellent read. A gripping tale. Really well written it will have you turning page after page late into the night
I loved this book, and couldn’t put it down from half way through.
15 year old Rosie is lying in hospital in a coma, but her mind is trying to work out what, or who, put her there. A product of every parent’s nightmare - children being befriended on the Internet by someone who is not who they purport to be.
She lives with her Mum Toni, and her Aunt Bridget, who share a terrible secret and a Pact that might have terrible consequences.
The book is told alternately by Rosie from her coma, Toni the mother and Bridget the Aunt. Taking you through many twists and turns until you finally finish with much to think about.
Highly recommended. 😀
Two sisters share a secret; they've made 'A Pact' together along time ago.
Toni, is a single parent to teenager Rosie. Bridget is the older sister and auntie who keeps them both in check. They all live together in a small flat.
Toni is an over protective mum and doesn't allow Rosie to be a normal teenager: forbidding her to use social media or going to parties.
Bridget is more easy going, plays in a band; Rosie talks to her aunt about life.
Rosie an up and coming actress, is approaced by Emily whilst in a local production to be het theatical agent. Eventually Toni begins to trust Emily and allows her access into her daughter's world.
Rosie has a secret. She has access to various types of social media sites and on here she is contacted by a boy. She hates lying to her mum but she craves freedom.
This book had me gripped from the very beginning until the very last page. A great modern day psychological thriller and another great piece of writing by S E Lynes.
Grabs you from the first paragraph and doesn't let go till the last. In her latest snapshot of contemporary life SE Lynes continues to explore the dark and dusty secrets that we all, in one way or another, have sealed up in boxes, stored at the back of our closet,s choosing not to revisit or address. The Pact cleverly tells the story of trust and loyalty between two sisters Toni and Bridge who share a chilling secret, and the effects that has on their lives and that of Toni's teenage daughter Rosie. The author has succeeded in placing the reader alongside ... no ...almost IN the mind of the main characters ... vaguely uncomfortably close .... fly on the wall doesn't quite cover it. A 'big bad wolf' story clad in the modern garb of Facebook Instagram Snapchat etc it will no doubt be a terrifying revelation to many. Twists aplenty ...fabulous read!
