This is a long-ish running series and this is book six, so naturally this is the first one I have read. I suppose I did feel at a little bit of a disadvantage as I didn't understand all of the character dynamics, the existing relationships and nuances of the backseries, but that is the only real 'issue' for want of a better term, and probably only because one of the two cases links back to something from one of the Detectives' pasts. As investigations go, these are two standalone crimes, both of which caught my attention, and both of which I was able to follow as a newcomer (aka latecomer) to the series. So if, like me, you have a tendency to pick up a series wherever you land, do not fret. This book is fabulous.

I love US set crime series, particularly in the police procedural genre. I don't know why, perhaps because they feel a little more gritty and realistic, given that the propensity for violence is greater in the US. You are far more likely to come across gun crime in the US, for example, although it has to be said that the rate of gang related crimes is escalating over here too. So the first case we are presented with, the shooting of a local activist and campaigner has an air of all too scarily plausible authenticity about it, that drew me in immediately and kept me hooked. Was it a case of mistaken identity, or was she deliberately targeted. For series hero, Tracy Crosswhite, it is an entirely different case that she finds herself becoming invested in, the disappearance of a young student, whose determination to become a doctor against her family's wishes makes the situation all the more unusual. Two very diverse cases, but intriguing and full of tension in their own right.

I really liked Robert Dugoni's writing style. There is a brilliant blend of tension and urgency, as well as the right balance between entertaining the reader, and providing just the right amount of technical detail and information to keep the story moving along. The pacing is spot on, and the sense of things never quite being as they appear really kept me focused on the cases in hand. In one case, a suspect is shot, resulting in the two officers involved being put on leave pending the results. But their stories differ wildly, and I had to wonder about the motivations behind that. The author explores the impact that these kinds of high pressure situations can have on recollection, but still manages to raise a red flag, leaving me wondering if that was all that was behind these contradictory accounts. As for Tracy's case, there are many avenues to be explored, from family disagreements to the somewhat controversial manner in which the missing woman paid for her education. It really made me think.

This was a top notch, often adrenalin filled case, packed with action, some mystery and the odd moment of misdirection too. It's certainly made me want to pick up more books in the series to fill in the gaps in my knowledge, and I have the first few on my kindle, so I'll be doing just that. Recommended for fans of solid, tense, police based thrillers with top characters you can really get behind.

I really enjoyed this book, it has excellent characterisation and an interesting plot. It is book 6 in the Tracy Crosswhite series and there is dual plotting with the disappearance of an Indian girl and a drug related murder. It is skilfully told, with Tracy trying to hide her pregnancy and I liked the glimpse into Tracy's private life. Plenty of suspense, a steady pace and a believable plot makes it another good read from the author. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Like all of the Tracy Crosswhite novels, Robert Dugoni has developed not just a compelling character in Tracy, but a complete cast which are always interesting. Tracy never has it easy, but she is one of the best detectives Seattle PD has, and where she goes intrigue will follow. As the series develops, we do not just get a typical police procedural, but we learn more and more about our favorite detective. Each new novel is just as much about a desire to see where Dugoni takes her character, as it is about the crime we know she will solve.

It has been a while since I read one of the Tracy Crosswhite books. I remember really loving them. This one wasn't quite as engaging as I remember the others being. Overall it is a good story.

Tracy Crosswhite is consulting on a missing persons case, a case that Tracy feels might not be straightforward. This is a fast paced police procedural with lots of twists. I saw some of them coming but a lot caught me by surprise. Dugoni is an author that never disappoints. Thank you to net galley for a copy.

Although I read this book ages ago, I never submitted a formal review. RobertDugoni is one of my favorite authors and this book was fantastic. I have since recommended this book to many others. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

A secret pregnancy, a mysterious new detective on the team, a murdered community activist, and a missing woman from a traditional Indian family propel this story. Dugoni brings all of these pieces together and weaves a tight story that had several twists and turns. While I guessed pieces of the puzzles, there was more that I didn't put together. Another thrilling and engaging story. This is a series best read in order.

This series just gets better and better. This is the 6th book in the Tracy Crosswhite series and I couldn't put it down. I really like how the author develops different characters in each book. This book had a lot of Faz and Del, Tracy's partner in the detective squad. One of the threads of the book featured this duo. The main mystery was also very interesting having to do with arranged marriages and sugar daddies/babies. Toward the end of the book the short chapters were alternating between all the storylines which I loved. It was so fast paced and I couldn't get enough quick enough. This is a series that should be read in order so if you are new to it, check out My Sister's Grave. A great start to the reading year!

Robert Dugoni continues to knock out first rate police procedurals and he has quickly risen to one of my favorite authors. I am particulary enamored with the seven-book Tracy Crosswhite police procedural series. Dugoni writes some good stuff. This is his sixth book in this particular series, of which I have read five books, His writing ability is bcoming evermore honed and refined to cement Dugoni a solid top square in the police procedural genre. (Dugoni has written more books, however, I have only read from this particular series.)

The above being said, I must confess that this is not my favorite Tracy White book in the series. This is not to say, that it is not as good, or it is not as well written. No, far from it - I am merely saying it is not my favorite story in the series, however, opinions differ and it may be other Dugoni readers of the Tracy Crosswhite series favorite book in the series. And, I am by no means discounting the book as not being good, as I still really enjoyed A Steep Price. I am very glad that I was given an opportunity to read this book.

A Steep Price follows the Dugoni formula of having two cases running simultaneously, and vert effectiively. Faz and Del inherit a murder case that may be a gang hit on a socially motivated woman for the minorities, and this is an inconvenience to Little Jimmy and his gang.

Meanwhile, Kins and Tracy are looking into an unusual murder case of a college student about to begin medical school. It is not at all clear who was the killer or of any notive that he or she or they may have had. This one is going to send Tracy and Kins deep into the investigation.

And, then Dugoni throws some additional interesting curves or circumstances. A new officer is brought into their unit, a woman by the name of Audrey Gonzales, who came up a few years earlier from Los Angeles. And, she sort of leap frogged over another officer that was probably due next. Why? Faz is sad and going through a very rough time with his wife Vera, who is having a complicated case of breast cancer. Oh, yes, did I mention also that Tracy is now pregnant, but not yet showing? No one in homicide is aware of this minor detail either.

If this book sounds interesting, believe me it is. A Steep Price will appeal to a broad reader base. It is a hard book not to enjoy, Moreover, it is not overy graphic, gruesome or violent. It is softer than other books in the series, and those were not that violent either, I would rate A Steep Price around a 3.4 or 3.5, but I will conservatively give it 3-stars.

I would like to thank Netgalley, the author, and Thomas and Mercer for the opportunity to read this book and offer a fair and honest review.

⭐⭐⭐1/2
In the next addition of Tracy Crosswhite series , Tracy is pregnant and trying to hide it from everybody in her precinct while investigating a missing Indian women’s case. Meanwhile Faz and Del are investigating the shooting death of a community activist who was against the drug and gun culture .

A Steep Price by Robert Dugoni is the sixth book in Tracy Crosswhite police procedural series. Even though I have enjoyed the series so far this one seems lacking and was a little predictable. However I will still read the next one in the series

I would like to thank Thomas Mercer & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

Robert Dugoni’s Tracy Crosswhite series has made him a rising star in the world of police thrillers.
A missing person case becomes a murder investigation when a young woman’s body is found close to her own home.
Tracy is hiding a secret of her own, and fears that she may soon be replaced on the squad.
Dugoni paints a stark picture of police procedures, while delving into the issue of arranged marriages in modern America. Highly recommended.

Tracy Crosswhite goes by her instincts to be interested in beautiful young woman gone missing.
Also, the new colleague Andrea seems somehow mysterious and, maybe, a threat. To whom or to what?

I love this series - it might be the only mystery series I read eagerly these days. So I am truly unhappy to report the mixed feelings here. I mean, probably a different series, a different heroine - and I might leave the pages satisfied (if a bit bored). But for a Tracy Crosswhite novel, from the series I love fiercely because I have happily got emotionally attached to it - well, I am disappointed. Probably because there is nothing to get emotionally invested into (and I am sure it just might be me).
But, well...Tracy here just does her thing, as Kins, Del and Faz does, too. Sure, the Andrea angle and the shooting incident IS interesting, as is health of Faz's wife Vera. And Kavita' s struggle IS a new motif, for sure. And as I said before, maybe if this was a different series...But I came to love Tracy and her team for more.

This does not mean I will start to love this series less. No, it is too precious to me. I will just regroup my expectations into the next installment! :)

This is one of my favorites. There are two separate investigations going on. Tracy & Kins are investigating a disappearance of an Indian woman, while she's also trying to keep her pregnancy a secret. Meanwhile, Faz is investigating a murder of a woman that was in the wrong side of town. Faz, however, is feeling the stress because of personal reasons. Then there's a new investigator in town, Tracy is worried she's there to take over the team, Faz ends up in a situation with her that could put everything in jeopardy, & I didn't like her either. I enjoyed both investigations. I liked that we got more personal with Faz in this one, too. The story flowed nicely and I thought the ending was a good one. I'm curious to see where the next book takes us.

First of Dugoni's books that i have read, really enjoyed it and will definitely read more of his books. This is a great detective thriller, I wish i had started with book one in the series but only so much time to read. Neverless I was still able to follow the story line. Book six in the Tracy Crosswhite series she and her coworkers on the Seattle PD investigatef a murdered mother with dangerous enemies and the disappearance of an Indian American, pre-med student who may or may not have gotten her killed.
Characters are well thought out and likeable (or not) You really get into the story and the lives of the characters. Well done and thanks for the chance to read this book

I really enjoy this series and liked seeing more of the personal sides of the characters this time. I'm not sure I liked the 2 cases going on at once. This made the story feel a little disjointed. The resolutions of the cases fell kind of flat too.

This Detective Tracy Crosswhite series has me hooked. I started in the middle, so I am going to have to start working my way back to the beginning. I love how these mysteries star a strong female lead character. This book has follows two different crimes at the same time. Tracy is investigating a missing woman and still working like a boss while trying to conceal her pregnancy. Her teammates are investigating a homicide of a woman who was trying to fight the gangs and drugs in her community. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and at times I struggled to put it down!

As always, I enjoyed this book in the Tracy Crosswhite series by Robert Dugoni! I love the characters and their stories and struggles. I feel as if I’m right there beside them through the entire book. With this novel I found myself having emotional moments and that’s one thing that makes a novel so good. I am definitely ready for another novel in this series.
