This latest visit with Sarah Winston in Massachusetts is perfect! The suspense is gripping from the very beginning. The characters, especially Sarah, are so well drawn and their life problems are real. The mystery kept me guessing until the end, with a very satisfying ending that has me anticipating more. The most important thing I could say about 'I Know What You Bid Last Summer' is that it stayed with me for days. I wanted to go back to Sarah and see what was happening. I enthusiastically recommend it!
Sarah Winston is in the gym setting up a sports auction for the local school when she is attacked by a masked person, and the next day a board member is found murdered there. Trying to reorient her life now that her ex CJ is gone for good, she throws herself into solving these two crimes, while also spying on other Italian restaurants for the DiNapolis and a lasagna bake-off. Add the usual characters and you have another great mystery in this series.
I Know What You Bid Last Summer is the fifth installment in the Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mystery series set in Ellington, MA and featuring Sarah Winston. Heartbroken that ex-husband CJ has moved to Florida, Sarah is trying to keep busy and the Ellington High School Athletic Equipment swap is just the thing to occupy her time.
The night before the swap Sarah is alone in the gym making sure everything is all set and setting up the items that she's collected for the silent auction. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to the school district much to the delight of the school board. The lights go out, Sarah is attacked and locked in the equipment closet and when she manages to break free realizes that someone has made off with most of the auction items which were signed memorabilia from local professional athletes. When a member of the school board is found dead the next day in the same closet, Sarah is determined to find not only a thief but a killer too.
In addition to setting up an over the top garage sale that has Sara shaking her head, there's a lasagna bake off scheduled in the neighboring town of Bedford and Angelo DiNapoli has entered. Determined to outdo the competition, Angelo asks Sarah to visit the competing shops and bring back samples of the different lasagna, word gets out and she soon finds herself wishing she'd never have to taste the cheesy concoction again.
A fast paced plot with well crafted characters. This series never disappoints and gets better with each new addition.
I received an advanced copy of I Know What You Bid Last Summer from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.
I Know What You Bid Last Summer was my first Garage Sale Mystery, but it certainly won’t be my last! Author Sherry Harris has the amazing ability to make main character Sarah Winston’s life come alive on the pages. Sarah is organizing an equipment swap for a local school when the lights suddenly go out, Sarah is assaulted and autographed sports memorabilia and several antique items are stolen. One of the stolen items is then used to murder the school superintendent. Sarah’s sleuthing soon uncovers more secrets and lies than anticipated and keeps the reader guessing until the very end! If you are a fan of cozy mysteries, I recommend this book and the entire fun and engaging series. You won’t be disappointed. I received an advanced reader copy provided to me by the publisher through NetGalley, which did not affect my rating. I have provided an unbiased and honest review.
Considering how much I am not a yard sale person, I've really enjoyed this series. Love the main character and enjoy her relationships in the series, This is a well written, excellent addition to the series.
I Know What You Bid Last Summer is the fifth book in Sherry Harris’ Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mystery series. I enjoy this author’s writing style and her ability to paint vivid pictures with her written words. The storyline is well plotted, the characters well developed and affable, and there are humorous situations throughout the book. The book moves at a fast pace and there are plenty of viable suspects and twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. I recommend this book/series to anyone who enjoys reading cozy mysteries.
Sarah Winston lives in Ellington, Massachusetts and loves garage sales. She manages a virtual garage sale website, provides professional services to people having garage sales, and does volunteer work for several organizations. Until six weeks ago, Sarah and her ex-husband, CJ, were ‘dating’ and trying to work out their differences, but he decided to take a job in Florida and now in an effort to deal with the loss she’s trying to keep busy. Angelo, her friend and the owner of DiNapoli’s Roast Beef and Pizza, has entered a lasagna bake-off in Bedford and he’s so determined to win that he asks her to visit and taste lasagna from his five top competitors’ restaurants and to bring a sample of each to him. Rosalie, his wife, tells her she doesn’t have to do it, but she agrees and treats her friends, landlord, and new neighbor to dinners. Sarah also agreed to manage an athletic equipment swap and has a garage sale scheduled for the following week. Kelly Long is her client and given her requests, it’s going to be more of an event than a garage sale. The night before the swap, she’s organizing the items when someone attacks her in the high school’s gymnasium and steals sport equipment and autographed sports items that were donated for a silent auction. When she escapes the building, Police Officer Scott Pellner is outside and insists she go to the hospital to be checked out and thankfully, her injuries are minor. The day of the event, Sarah goes into the equipment room for towels to clean up a spill and finds Melba Harper, the school superintendent, with a vintage ski pole plunged into her chest. Prior to his arrest, Anil Kapoor, a school board member, asks her for her help in proving his innocence. While investigating, Sarah uncovers lots of secrets and lies as she tries to figure out who Melba’s killer is and unravel the mystery concerning the mysterious relationship between Mike ‘the Big Cheese’ Titone, who has mob connections, and Seth Anderson, the handsome D.A., who she briefly dated.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.
I started reading this series less than a year ago, but it has quickly become one of my favorites! This fifth book in the Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mysteries might be the best yet. Although her friends Carol, Stella, and the DiNapolis are around, Sarah is more alone than she's been in earlier books, so she has plenty of time to ponder and investigate the mysteries happening in town. There are a few different mysteries in this story, and several solid suspects to go along with them. The book moves at a good pace, and kept me up until 3am because I couldn't stop reading it. I didn't solve the mysteries or guess the culprit(s) before all was revealed, which kept the suspense going until the very end. There was also a fun side story involving the DiNapolis and a lasagna contest that I really liked. Highly recommend this book and the entire series!
I received a free advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
A delightful cozy mystery with an unusual setting in the world of garage sales. Sarah Winston has decided to stay in Ellington, Mass. and run her garage sale business despite the fact that her estranged husband C.J. has moved to Florida. Sarah is tasked with running a sports swap at the local high school, but when she goes to set up for the sale she is attacked and when she returns to continue she finds the dead body of the school superintendent with a ski pole through her heart. Sarah has a reputation for solving crimes so she is asked to investigate by both the Town Manager and the Anil, a member of the school board who is the likely suspect. Sarah once again puts herself in danger but manages to solve the crime along with the possibility of a new relationship. I loved the book and look forward to the next in the series.
