Constantine has met his match with Lady Charlotte Carpenter. For someone who is used to women falling at his feet, he is in real trouble when Lady Charlotte falls into instant dislike after finding out his identity. When the pair are discovered to have spent the night together everyone including Constantine agrees that marriage is the only solution, everyone except Charlotte. This is a good book with a great family and a story in which Charlotte and Constantine learn, everything is not always what it seems.

Lady Charlotte Carpenter has just been kidnapped and she knows exactly who is behind it. For now, she must think of a plan to escape. Fortunately for Charlotte, a friend of her brother's who happened to be nearby when she was snatched, is able to come to her aid. Charlotte is in awe of this man until she comes to find out who he really is... Constantine, Marquis of Kenilworth. Charlotte would never be associated with such a rake, but soon enough finds herself engaged to him. Things just went from bad to worse.
Con is not ready for marriage, but when a gossip sees him and Charlotte together unchaperoned, Con must do the respectful thing and offer for her hand. Con knows Charlotte's view of him has changed, and when he learns why he is appalled. Con becomes determined to show Charlotte he is not the monster she believes because the more time he spends with her, the more he begins to see marriage to her might not be so bad. What will Con do when Charlotte's life is placed in danger a second time? Could he risk losing the only woman he has ever loved?
Author Ella Quinn is an up and comer in the historical romance genre. Her latest series, THE WORTHINGTONS, is a thrill a minute. It all starts with THREE WEEKS TO WED, WHEN A MARQUIS CHOOSES A BRIDE, IT STARTED WITH A KISS and continues with THE MARQUIS AND I. Each book centers on a member of the Worthington family. Charlotte is the sister-in-law of Matt, the Earl of Worthington. The MARQUIS AND I is Charlotte's story. From the beginning, Charlotte and Con have chemistry, but Charlotte denies it. Charlotte has recently learned some unsavory facts about the real world when Matt shut down a prostitution ring. She believes Con is irredeemable for having had mistresses, but soon comes to see that she is wrong and he is not a bad guy after all. Con also goes to great lengths to be a better and more considerate man for Charlotte. THE MARQUIS AND I is a fast-paced read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the fourth instalment in Ella Quinn’s The Worthington’s series. I hadn’t read the previous entry in the series, but this didn’t end up being a problem for me as the author has crafted a story that stands perfectly well on its own.
Lady Charlotte Carpenter has been kidnapped while walking to her brother’s home. Constantine, the Marquis of Kenilworth is recruited to give chase and rescue her. Successful in his mission, Kenilworth and Charlotte head back to London. Unfortunately, they are seen by another member of the ton and are forced to say they are betrothed to avoid a scandal.
Lady Charlotte, is a campaigner for women in “unfortunate circumstances.” Relentless in her views she refuses to marry for less than love and refuses to be subjected to the whims of a man. Lord Kenilworth is content with his life, satisfied with his mistress he has no plans to marry. When circumstances push these two together, sparks fly. With Charlotte’s kidnappers still in pursuit can Kenilworth protect her and change her mind about marrying him?
This is an enjoyable read. The relationships are well-drawn, and the dialogue is witty. There is a perfect blend of intrigue, drama and romance. Initially Charlotte comes across as childish with her black or white thinking but as the story moves she grows in likability. Kenilworth is a favourite of mine, he is not after to say when he is wrong and is willing to go above and beyond what is asked of him.
I’ve read all the books in the series, and liked them all,. Yet, somehow, I felt this one was not as good as the others, maybe I’m just tired of the “abducted by a madam to be forced into prostitution/marriage/drug addiction “ storylines. The characters have always been interesting in these stories, but are feeling old and stale. The strong female character I anticipated for Charlotte seems a little annoying, and the H just failed to be interesting.
The book is well written, but the story just didn’t hold my interest and I had to force myself to finish the book. I received a free arc in exchange for an honest review.
The story begins as a page turner. Lady Charlotte Carpenter has been kidnapped by a flesh peddler and Constantine, the Marquis of Kenilworth, has come to the rescue as a close friend of her brother-in-law. The two of them are seen together under compromising circumstances with the usual consequences - they must become engaged. In the course of their engagement, they become further involved with human traffickers as well as Charlotte's uncertainty about Constantine's worthiness as a husband. Unfortunately, the book bogs down somewhat in the middle. Once the engagement is announced, their relationship seems very slow to develop.. Things pick up later in the book and keeps the reader's attention.and they do make an interesting couple, so with some skimming of the slow parts, it's a decent read.
I have read a book #1 and #2 of this series and I really enjoy them and I really liked this because it is not the average story. You should have read the previous books to understand the story from the beginning because Ella Quinn tells you the details but it’s harder to get in if you do not understand the family structure of Charlotte’s family.
So what is it about? It’s about abduction, human trafficking, brothels, a huge family, rumors and an unwanted marriage – I think this summons it up.
Honestly said I liked the heroine but she got onto my nerves and her ongoing monologues.
Here is what I liked about this story – it is full of one peril after another (four kidnappings in less than a month), the kids are way too cute, the dog wedding is precious, and the villains are caught. Now, onto the romance part of the story – did not like it that much. Charlotte is very hard to like with her holier than thou attitude. I understand and am totally with her on her quest to rescue women from prostitution (whatever form that may be) but to keep on and on and on about it was just too much. It really deterred from the story. Yes, he kept a mistress and yes he finally realized that his mistress was forced into it at an early age, but he had no idea (just his ignorance that some women did not want to be in that position). That being said, his willingness and action to bring the women home really stood out. Will I read another story in this series? Yes, I want to see what happens with Elizabeth and Harrington.
Charlotte gets kidnapped by an old adversary her family thought was gone. Charlotte was well trained and armed to handle the situation which was appealing to me especially at that time in history. Con comes along to help her escape but they are caught and can't get out of a scandal unless they tell others they are betrothed. Con had no intention of marrying quite yet and Charlotte does not want to marry him because he has a mistress. Charlotte recognizes that mistresses and women in brothels are mainly there unwillingly. She helps women out of forced prostitution and their kids, con helps her in many ways and realizes hus opinion about mistresses was wrong. Their feelings for each other grow. Although they catch some of the criminals, Charlotte and others are still targeted for kidnapping. Con is protective and also fits in with her large family. It was a wonderful story. However the descriptions of their plans and how they were going to catch the miscreants was not always clear and gets muddied, Thank you for a pleasant read.
I was so happy that I was able to get an advance copy from NetGalley for an honest review. This is the first book that I have read from Ms. Ella Quinn and I have enjoyed it a great deal.
Lady Charlotte Carpenter is kidnapped, Constantine, the Marquis of Kenilworth is recruited to rescue her. They spent so much time together that they have to get married to save her reputation. She is not having any of that.
I'm sure I've given enough away already. I thought the book was great. I'm looking forward to reading the previous books in the series as well as future books.
A wonderfully woven historical romance with great family interaction, Con, our hero is an unrepentant rake and our heroine, Lady Charlotte is a well protected virgin.
Ms.Quinn weaves a tale with excitement, danger, romance and the love of family into her tale. You root for the couple as they work to save others as well as themselves....falling deeper in love as they work.
I highly recommend The Marquis and I to historical romance lovers.
I requested and was granted an ARC for my honest opinion from NetGalley.
I have read several of Ms. Quinn's novels and I this novel did not disappoint!! She brings back the characters from the previous novels, but it is centered around two other characters. The story continues from the previous novels but a different couple is falling in love.
Lady Charlotte Carpenter has learned much over the past several months about women in unfortunate situations. She plans to help them and despises any man who uses a woman. She is passionate about her cause and is not helpless. When she is kidnapped, Constantine, Marquis of Kenilworth, comes to her rescue. Con is surprised to she Charlotte is not your typical damsel in distress. They escape together but Charlotte learns who he is and immediately withdraws from her, which perplexes Con. Someone discovers Con and Charlotte and they have no choice but to announce their engagement, but Charlotte has other ideas. She does not want to marry Con, but several others are thrilled. Con wants to marry her first out of obligation, but then it changes to desire. He wants to make Charlotte fall in love with him. Charlotte opens Con's eyes to his lifestyle and he realizes things he did not think about before. Charlotte gives him another chance. However, someone still is after Charlotte. Will Con be able to protect her?
This is an entertaining “accidental marriage“ tale that has a great deal more for the reader. Lady Charlotte has been kidnapped! Now Charlotte is lucky she has an elder brother who has taught his sisters how to help themselves out of a bad situation. So, Charlotte attempts to escape her captors. Constantine, aka “ Con”, is a Marquis and a friend of her older brother. He is alerted to the situation and as a gentleman feels he must intervene and come to her rescue. This IS the age of chivalry. While Con is able to save this one day, his actions and those of Charlotte, drag each of them into a mess. They can either marry to escape public ruin, for themselves and their families, or let the chips fall.
But while taking time to make this decision, both are drawn into a web of intrigue and danger that might interfere with that choice or any possible hea.
This is part of a wonderful series of books, each a stand alone, that includes colorful characters and rich descriptions of London and surrounding areas of the time. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and recommend it to readers of historical romance and romance who enjoy action and a bit of heat.
That's a lot of kidnappings for one family.
A cat harness? People are weird. And what's the point of having a knife if you don't know how to use it?
Prince Charming, this guy isn't. So sorry to inconvenience you with a pesky kidnapping, buddy.
What did he do to make her hate him so? And does she really think she can get a free ride back to London?
A lot of kids in one house.
She is frighteningly naive.
Harrington is a daddy's boy.
I like that the women are capable of saving themselves. The men aren't needed, but they sure are helpful.
If the old woman knew about Jemmy's birthmark, doesn't that mean she knows who he is?
The kids are cute.
