This is a fantastic book and perfect idea. I can't believe no one has written something like this before. This is a perfect fit to have favorite food and tea inspired by favorite books. It will be great for a tea party planning as a guide. The recipes are delicious and the tea information and pairings amazing.
A cute book with different literary tea parties. I will be using some of the recipes I hope soon.
This book includes many nice and easy-to-follow recipes that are inspired by recipes or dishes from various well-known books. The variety of the dishes and the idea behind the recipes made me like the book even more despite the fact that I had somehow expected something different. Even though those recipes are inspired by books and there are quotes to go along with them together with some explanations, I'd expected a more direct approach, more recipes taken directly from the books, I think.
Nevertheless, it is a really nice and diverse collection of many tea party related recipes that are well done.
Some lovely cute little recipes in this book, very well illustrated and easy to make. These recipes could certainly be used as a basis for conducting a high tea for friends or a little girls party.
The literary reference are a cute idea but it did inspire me much. Good photos and recipes appealed me.
Really loved the idea of the book. The recipes looked amazing and simple enough for beginners to try. I loved the themes for each of the recipes as well as the introduction. The tea party recommendation list was definitely a plus as well. Bravo!
I enjoyed the concept of this book, but I wished that it would be something more. The food was food inspired by the books, not recipes from the books or food that is eaten in the books. The pictures are fresh and the recipes sound tasty.
I thought this book was super cute. I love doing tea at a place here in my town that does something like this and I like that this is a way for you to do it at home. It made me want to throw a tea party!
Absolutely a delight. This is one of kind book and such a brilliant idea. Tried some of the recipes & I enjoyed it. This should be a must have addition . Thank you NetGallery for providing me with an advance copy.
This book was such a clever idea! I loved it!! I loved that each recipe was inspired by literature. I also loved the mouth watering pictures, tea pairings, and cooking tips! I will be buying a copy for my personal library.
I enjoyed this book as a whole. The recipes seem to be well written and easy to follow although I have not made any of them yet. Many of them have food coloring so I would probably eliminate that as it doesn't work well with my son. There are a lot of great ideas for recipes if you are hosting a tea party based on a certain book. I think it is a great addition to anyone's tea bookshelf if tea parties are your thing.
This book is a kind of book that I would love to have it display on my kitchen. The cover is so pretty, and from these recipes, you can make your own Mad Hatter Tea Party :D
I think all the tea lovers would love this book!
Any literary lover will adore this collection of story inspired recipes and teas to share with your friends. A great addition for those who loved to cook or nostalgic for some classic literature. Pick up this title, craft a few recipes and invite your book club over for tea!
I got this book as an advance readers copy. This is a nice little book of recipes inspired by food and drink in literature. It's always fun to imagine the food from books. I think that I would have particularly appreciated it when I was a pre-teen or teen. I don't think that I would do much cooking from it now. I am tempted to make Delicious Death from A Murder is Announced, though. I've always fantasized about that cake!
Such a fun book for lovers of literature and baking (or eating)! This would be a perfect gift for a friend who’s already “read everything”, or for anyone in a book club.
A Literary Tea Party by Alison Walsh 4.5/5
The first thing that’s apparent is that Alison has a sense of humor! She jumped right into writing her cookbook and makes me want to jump right in and try her creations as well. As an avid reader and tea enthusiast myself, I couldn’t think of a more perfect cookbook. She gives tips and trick, which is so helpful for someone that also jumps in and thinks, “I’ll figure it out as I go.” The one thing that I do have to say, Alison is fancy- edible flowers?! That’s a nice tea party! She does, for her credit, let us know which seasons these are most likely to be found and how to prepare them. There is a variety of simple and more extravagant creations, but I was able to get through those that I tried.
Another thing I appreciated was that there was a suggested themed tea party list in the beginning of foods to serve together. This isn’t just a random collection of book findings, it’s a well thought out edible party. My personal favorite is that in every recipe, there is a suggested tea pairing AND directions on how to make the tea (there are both herbal and caffeinated recipes throughout). How cool is that?! That alone is worth it to me. She even offers up a couple drink alternatives such as cider, lattes, and hot chocolate. Plus, even with her fancy ingredients, her directions are easy to follow.
The fact that each recipe starts with the book and quote where the food is found makes this book extra special.
As a lover of all things literature and food this is a wonderful collection of recipes I can turn to for any book-theme party. I love that it also lists the recipes by party theme (e.g. Alice in Wonderland, Narnia, etc) which makes it a lot easier to plan. Being vegan I would have to come up with a lot of substitutions for the recipes but this provides me with a good foundation to work with! I also appreciate the photos included in the book because It helps me see what each recipe is supposed to look like.
This book was an interesting and engaging marriage of food in literature. Each recipe begins with a brief quote that somewhat correlates to the story they came from. The recipes range from a nice selection of flavored teas, cider, and hot chocolates to savory pies and bite size cakes and muffins. The most challenging-at least for me-was the candy making...does goop count?!
I tried a few of the simpler recipes and was pleased with the results. From the Chronicles of Narnia, the Apple of Life Bites were an easy-to-make, tasty mix of tart apple, creamy Brie, and salty bacon pieces. And I couldn’t pass up The Borrower’s Arriety and her mini cherry cakes because the picture of these dainty cakes was too cute! Super simple to make, the cherry preserves were layered with a scrumptious Devonshire cream (recipe included) and melt-in-your-mouth buttery pound cake (store bought per recipe) that was irresistible! My husband loved them! Having said that, the recipe was also easily interchangeable with fresh strawberries and strawberry preserves-yum! **And yes, I took a picture of these little beauties to prove how quick and easy it was to make them!
A Literary Tea Party was brilliant fun! Alison Walsh took a neat perspective of food in literature and gave them modern appeal. The common theme gave me a fresh perspective on old favorites and a desire to see for myself what’s lurking in the ones I’ve yet to crack open. I also appreciated how the recipes/portion sizes would work well as appetizers for any type of occasion! I will definitely be adding this book to my cookbook collection!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
While the concept is adorable; the execution is pretty predictable. I wasn't wowed by any of the recipes.
