Very fun book with great recipes. Some of them were a little too kitschy but overall a great themed recipe book.

This is a delightful book for anyone like me who is passionate about reading and drinking tea. The cookbook consists of different recipes in the categories of savories, breads and muffins, sweets, homemade tea blends, and tea alternatives. Each recipe is inspired by a book and includes the recipe, a quotation from the book, a few words about the recipe from the author, and for most recipes a picture. The books chosen to inspire the recipes are classics that most will recognize, I know a few of my all time favorite books are in the book, including Anne of Green Gables. The recipes do not appear to be too difficult and the tea blends are different and I am looking forward to trying some of them. This is a great little cookbook for fans of tea parties and good litereature.

Coincidentally, I was planning a tea party this month and decided to request this book from NetGalley to see if it could help me out. It gave me some great ideas, and a few I may attempt for my party. Others just served as inspiration to see what I could put my own spin on later.
I'm not much of a cook, but I can decently bake, and while some recipes seemed above my skill, I was actually reassured by the forward from the author about her own skill level prior to writing this book. It seemed a little corny inspirational at first, but it really got my mind thinking "well if the author could learn and write a book about this, maybe I won't set the kitchen on fire." I liked the themed recipes, but I would have to mix and match themes since completing all of one theme may be above my skills. I especially liked the tea based foods and beverages, as I have been wondering about mixing loose leaf tea and food. I liked the tea mix suggestions, but I'm not too sure where I would find tea of the required kinds near me. I would substitute maybe some David's Tea mixes and match what I could, but the match ideas were good. Some of the recipes in the ebook didn't have pictures for every recipe, which would be helpful so I can get a sense of what I'm aiming for, but the majority did illustrate the end result pretty well. I really enjoyed the list of common substitutions, which I always end up googling anyway, and the instructions on how to make your own double broiler substitute was above what most cookbooks I've read include.
I would really recommend this even if you don't buy into the literary themes and just want a fun book with tea, tea based food, and whatever you may need for a tea party.

A perfect gift for yourself and all of the book and tea lovers in your life. This book would make a wonderful gift for the host of your next book club meeting, especially paired with one of the home-blended teas or treats from the book. For an extra special gift, you could also include the book that inspired the selection. Beautiful photographs throughout of both the finished recipes as well as photographs of some of the steps that get you to the finish line. This is a delightful little book that every book lover will enjoy.

This book meets my needs in two ways. One as a librarian that is hosting a tea party event for our patrons next month this couldn't come at a better time. Secondly, as a parent with 3 small children that love hosting tea parties this book is sure to elevate our afternoon tea rituals. I love that the recipes are from books most people are familiar with and that the recipes are fairly simple and kids are able to help out with them in the kitchen.

This is a cute little cookbook for people who like throwing tea parties and really enjoy books! Granted I mostly read nonfiction, but I do appreciate all the references to classic literature (especially the various Tolkien ones, though I am sad there are no Dune spice references!) and of course as a tea blogger I needed to grab a book on tea. The recipes mostly look amazing, I admit to turning a snobbish glance at the Turkish Delight since it didn't use rosewater or pistachios like tradition, but not everyone has access to those ingredients. Pretty much all the recipes are made with things you can find at any general grocery store, making improvised tea parties easier.

I found the method for blending teas to be a bit...odd. Reminded me of the Adagio Tea's design your own blend function where they take their flavors and give you a list and you select what you want to go in it, so not real tea blending. I would honestly suggest to anyone who wants to blend their own teas to steer clear of flavored teas, go for a base tea (like a classic Assam or Keemun) and add things like flowers, dried fruit, and spices. It makes for a better tea and it makes for easier blending. Especially since most local grocery stores are not going to have all the random flavors listed for the recipes in this book. For example, the Summery Peach Tea, instead of using flavored teas just get an Oolong, a Green and some dried or fresh peaches, much easier than getting specific flavored teas.

A Literary Tea Party is an absolutely adorable and essential book if you are a novice baker or just love everything literary!

The author begins with a note on why she embarked on the journey to making this book, as well as has names and definitions of kitchen gadgets and ways to substitute for things you may not have on hand. But like with any cookbook, it has some things you may need to find in a specialty food shop.

She even includes a list of themed tea party ideas with what each one should serve. There are plenty of pictures as well. This book is seriously too cute and I cannot wait to have my hands on a physical copy!

A Literary Tea Party: Blends and Treats for Alice, Bilbo, Dorothy, Jo, and Book Lovers Everywhere is filled with recipes for tea party treats--both savory and sweet--, tea blends, and other drinks. The recipes vary from simple to complex. Even the simple recipes look impressive enough to be special for your guests. The tea blends sound delicious, but require having a lot of flavored teas on hand.

I homeschool my children and plan to use this book to celebrate finishing the works of literature included. My kids are huge tea fans, so it's sure to be a hit with them.

I really like that this book covers such a variety of literature--from children's classics like Winnie the Pooh to books for older readers like Agatha Christie novels and everything in between. I think we'll be using this book for a long time!

I received an ARC copy of the book from NetGalley.

I'm the kind of person that treats books the way she treats movies, meaning I need snacks.

This book is the combination of lots of experiment, imagination, and yummy things. A book filled with recipes from the most fabulous books in the world from the mind of Alison Walsh, if the name rings a bell it's because she's the pen behind the blog <a href=http://wonderlandrecipes.com/">Alison's Wonderland Recipes</a>.

This book is filled with easy to medium recipes that I believe most of us can do, as well as tea recipes and ways to mix and match them for a perfect flavor combination.

I've read a lot of cooking books in my life and I gotta say this is the most special one I've read. Reading it made me see myself wearing gloves and having a fancy tea party with my friends. And when you're reading a book about literary food, I think that's the reaction you want.

Taking inspiration from the literary worlds of Pooh Bear, the Phantom of the Opera, Sherlock Holmes and Alice's Adventure in Wonderland, <i>A Literary Tea Party</i> is a whimsical collection of savoury and sweet recipes for themed tea parties.

Think <i>'Star-Crossed Focaccia'</i> inspired by Romeo and Juliet, <i>'Candied Flower Cookies'</i> from the Secret Garden, and 'Arctic Trail Coffee Muffins'</i> from White Fang.

The treats included have difficulty levels that range from easy to moderate; there are some candy recipes that seem a bit more challenging. The photographs really do a nice job of showcasing the nibbles, and there are book quotes that identify the inspiration for each bite.

The only issue I had was with the tea recipes. Examples of ingredients for recipes include:
2 tsp chocolate
2 tsp honeybush
1 tsp lavender buds
1 tsp cream
3 tsp toasted mate

There is a note a the beginning of the tea section explaining that all ingredients <i>"refer to teas of that flavor, not extracts or dairy." </i> So, basically you are mixing various types of store-bought tea. For special occasions, it would probably be fine. It seems a bit too specific for an everyday home cook, unless they are a huge tea drinker and keep lavender buds and toasted mate on hand.

This cookbook would be a great help for planning a book-themed party.

“A Literary Tea Party” would be great for book clubs looking to serve something related to the book that they read. Recipes range from super easy to incredibly difficult. Everyone will find something that they like. My favorite section was on making your own tea.

A nice, little cookbook for some simple, delicious snacks to pair with teas (or other refreshments). The literary angle is just another bonus. Some of the recipes aren't as innovative as I'd wish, but overall there are many I found interesting enough to want to try.

For literary lovers, fun foodies and creative party planners, this book is a cool must-have. The recipes are all for tea-time-appropriate snacks (savory and sweet), custom tea blends, and fun non-alcoholic drinks based on beloved books. Be Alice, having "bread and butterflies" and drinking tea with the Mad Hatter; step through the wardrobe and have a bite of Turkish Delight; or cook up a hearty afternoon snack fit for Hobbits and Dwarves alike.
