After several books of waiting and feeling Violet and Bren's attraction, we finally get their story in Hooked on You. It was definitely worth the wait! This is the last book in the series, and to fully appreciate the story, you should read the previous books first. I loved the entire series!
I just love a good hockey romance novel and this series is excellent!
Violet Vasquez is looking for a second chance, she is a cancer survival and the third daughter that no one has ever known of a rich hockey mogul. She is getting to know her half-sisters and trying to move on with her life.
Bren Saint James is a mess, he has a drinking problem, two kids from his former marriage, an ex-wife from hell and a Stanley Cup to win... He needs help and it may be Violet despite of themselves.
This book is so beautiful and emotional, I have read it in one night and loved every chapter. You will find this story so compelling and wonderful.
I truly recommend it!

The chemistry between Bren and Violet has been entwined throughout the pages of all three previous books, getting to finally read their story was the icing on the series.
Violet was the mystery Chase child, conceived during a one night stand. She didn’t know her sisters and didn’t really care to…until she had to. Sister nights, as awkward as they were in the beginning, became the bonding time the sisters needed in order to really love one another.
Her first day in Chicago lands her in a bar next to Bren, she’s wanted him since that first day.
Bren’s life went uncontrollably down hill because of his unhappiness and drinking. Luckily his team gave him a chance to clean it up and be the Captain they needed. His focus is on the game, his team, and missing his daughters…not the captivating woman who is always around.
His first day out of rehab landed him opposite some not so happy fans and a beautiful woman who tempted his restraint beyond its limitations…and no matter how badly he wanted Violet he couldn’t tempt his sobriety or his job.
When push comes to shove Violet is the one who comes through for Bren and his daughters. She’s the one he counts on when there’s no one else and when she finally lets down her guard he’ll be the one she learns to depend on. Hooked On You is a powerful story that proves love, when you let it in, can conquer anything. It was the perfect ending to the Chicago Rebels series.
This was a book I'd been anticipating for a while and boy it did it exceed my expectations. I'd been wanting Violet's story since the start of the series and I think it might be my favorite yet! I'm not sure I know what I was expecting but a hot and emotional romance where she becomes the nanny for damaged dad Bren was better than I could have expected.
I really like the Chicago Rebels books but this was not one of my favorites in the series. The story unfolded really slowly and the characters didn't all mesh that well, they felt disconnected. It was still a good read but just not one of my favorites.
Review of “Hooked On You” by Kate Meader (Chicago Rebels #4)
Thanks to Simon and Schuster / Pocket Books for providing me with an ARC via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
5 sizzling stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The story of 3 sisters - who are near strangers - and how their lives change after they’re legally bound to jointly run the failing hockey empire left to them by their deceased father, comes to a fantastic end with the last of the CR books.
I have been waiting for Bren (Nessie) and Violet’s story since forever! Somehow I found their chemistry appealed to me so much, much more than the other romantic duos in the series. Mind you, Remy will always hold a special place in my heart - for being the man he just is - but the couple who will always be my favourite? Violet and her Nessie of course!
It was lovely to see two souls that fate had NOT managed to break - just damage a little somewhat - come together and become stronger side by side - the ultimate high of any relationship...
I also loved Bren’s daughters - both with their different quirks and personalities - and their interactions with both their dad and Violet and how slowly, but surely, all four of them start to gel together as a family.
This book met all my expectations and everything I had anticipated for.
So.. a huge thank you to Kate.. for penning such an amazing story (and series).

I have a weakness for nanny romances what can I say. And this was a SPECTACULARLY-DONE, non-creepy one.
I’ve been waiting for Bren to get his happy ending since I read the first book in the series! He is not perfect and has made mistakes that cost him custody of his daughters, but he has fought hard to change his ways and be there for them. His broody ways have intrigued Violet from the moment they met and she takes advantage of every opportunity to tease him not realizing that he wants her. Their chemistry is undeniable and all the time they spend trying not to give into it makes for a great build up for when they finally do. I loved both Violet and Bren's relationship with his daughters and the way they grew into a being a family. They are plenty of emotional moments between lovers, parents, children and friends and this is the final book in the series, but there are also plenty of fun one, my favorite being when they reenact scenes from a movie. I’ve loved this series and I’m sad to see it end, but I’m also looking forward to new books.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.
This is the third and final book in the Chicago Rebels Series and it was my favorite. Violet and Bren have so much to overcome with themselves, forgiveness, acceptance and self-love. The relationships that had been built throughout the series was displayed in every page of the final book and made it that much more enjoyable.
Violet was the illegitimate daughter of the late Cliff-hole and grew up with so much rejection that she couldn't even trust the love that her sisters gave her or what Bren saw in her. Not feeling worthy is never a good feeling going into any type of relationship, but that is all she saw in herself in the Chicago Rebels' World.
Bren is just out of rehab and is struggling to find his place in his time, his family and life. It is a tough transition for anyone leaving the sanctuary that the walls of rehab provide, but to step foot into a world that lead to bars and team events only make the fight to stay sober that much harder. The honesty of his storyline was beautiful and added so much strength to this story and their journey.
I've been so looking forward to Bren and Violet finally getting their act together and doing something about all that pent-up attraction they've been keeping under wraps. Well, maybe more of Bren pretending it didn't exist since Violet sure wasn't hesitant to taunt and tempt the guy she's had her eye on from the moment she saw him in that bar. This was an enemies-to-lovers story that was both touching and enticing, highlighting not just the brewing romance between the two main characters but also the anchoring power of family, and not merely the one we're born into. Aside from Bren and Violet's romance, we also get snippets on the four other couples whose stories were part of the series and who they're all currently doing in their respective relationships. I'm sad to see this series end, but love that it ended on a high note with Hooked on You, which is getting five stars. ♥
I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley for an honest review.
I love this series! Violet has survived breast cancer and is now portrayed as the Good time Party Girl. When all she is doing, is living her life to the fullest. In comes Bren. He had let Alcohol destroy his marriage. Now he is sober, and show his team that he is not screw up that he was when drunk. When his ex-wife has a break down and has to go in to a treatment center, he is now taking care of his daughter. How can he take care of her and concentrate on taking his team to winning the playoffs. In walks Violet the perfect solution to his problem. Only now he has another problem! Her, and his attraction to her. This was a fun book to read, and I loved the interaction of Bren's daughter with Violet. The characters and storyline are always well-developed. I recommend this book and series to everyone. I give Hooked On You (The Chicago Rebels Series) 5/5 stars.
“She needed a drink. And while Violet Vasquez wasn’t big on boozing before five, she figured that now might be as good a day as any to start.”
Hooked on You is my second read by Kate Meader and it was definitely enjoyable! Hooked on You is the third book in the Chicago Rebels series and while it can be read as a stand-alone I really wish I read the previous two books. Mainly because there was history and references to things that I know I would have understood more if I had read the other books. That being said though, you really don’t have to read the first two books!
Right off the bat I liked Violet and Bren. The chemistry between the two of them felt real and I really enjoyed the development of their relationships. Bren felt like the typical brooding type of guy, he really had regrets from some of his past mistakes and he made a genuine effort to right his wrongs. Now Violet was a hoot! I loved her personality and how she was overcoming some personal issues. I felt like Bren brought out a new side of her!
Would I read more from Kate Meader? Definitely! Hooked on You was light and a quick read and I’m now looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the Chicago Rebels series.
This is the fourth in an existing series but I haven’t read anything else in the series (although I plan to). I don’t think I missed anything. It read like a stand alone. I loved the characters here - Violet was delightfully quirky and Bren was a brooding hero with lots of baggage. Their relationship is fascinating since they seem to really balance each other out. I loved the family pieces which gave the reader a different perspective on Bren throughout the novel. Although there is lots of hockey (it is a sports romance), it felt like there was a good balance between sports and romance. It’s a really good one that I definitely recommend. I liked this one and plan to go back and read the earlier books!
I absolutely fell in love with broken and cranky Bren immediately and that only grew throughout the story. He has been an intriguing character through the entire series and I really enjoyed getting to know him better in this story. If Bren was intriguing, Violet has been fascinating, seemingly both tough and wild, I enjoyed learning more about what makes her tick. The chemistry between the two that has been brewing has been almost combustible before we ever saw into their heads and was not at all disappointed by the reality in their story. This was probably my favorite book in the series, although I've enjoyed all of them, and I highly recommend this to any who loves a good romance.
Hooked On You brings an ending to the series about the hockey team, the Chicago Rebels and the stepsisters who inherited it. It is filled with emotion and still manages to weave in some humor and fun. Violet and Bren tell a tale that will keep you glued to the pages. This is one ending that is not to be missed.
Unfortunately for me I started this series on book 3, I had no idea what was going on in the backstory. Bren and Violet have great chemistry and extremely witty banter. Violet was a hoot! This is a series I will go back and read from the beginning.
I have a love-and-hate relationship with this series, I loved the first book, hated the Russian rep in the second, haven't read the third and was super excited about the fourth. I was looking forward to this one because the hero is divorced hockey player battling alcohol addiction who is given a second chance at his professional career and at love. The heroine is breast cancer survivor, half-Puerto Rican I loved the chemistry them and though both were complex and interesting characters. I was not really happy about nanny-employer situation (she is part-owner of the team, he is team captain) - the professional dynamics between them seemed too contrived. I also hated the evil ex trope which was in full bloom here. Overall, it was a nice romance with some bits of depth and tenderness but in al honesty, I expected more of it.
I came late to this series. This being the first book in the series that I've read. The blurb pulled me in and got me interested in reading it. Violet does not give herself the value she deserves. Her sisters try to get her to see it but it's Bren who makes her realize her own worth. Bren on the other hand had self value but lost some of that when alcohol took over his life and now even though he's fighting his way out of all that he's harboring a lot of guilt. I enjoyed watching these two come at each other and help lift each other up. Bren has two daughters in this story and they were so adorable with their dad and Violet. The secondary characters were interesting and fun and it made me wish i had read the previous two books in this series to find out their stories too. I don't think reading this one with out the first two took away from this story at all which is always awesome! I do think it probably would have been enhanced by doing so though. I'm thinking now i need to read more from this author.

I can't say enough about this book/series, loved, loved, loved it. From Violet, who's looking for love, but doesn't know it to Bren whose feeling of unworthiness has hurt himself & has family. Great story about 2nd chances and believing in yourself.
Amazing covers, amazing series…
Whew… I knew when I first spotted the book covers that underneath was going to be something beautiful. Each story built on the next – a family built around hockey, a group of characters brought together through sport, friendship and some lucky ones, love. There was dysfunction and pain, laughter and tears and above all, love. This was the final story so reading Violet and Bren’s story was bittersweet…
“Fear could go fuck itself.”
Violet has been the rebel character throughout it all. Surviving a life changing event had made her appreciate life more and be more confident in her choices. A step apart from her half-siblings due to circumstance, she was thrown into the Chase family – and the Rebels – like a fish out of water. She didn’t conform though. She stayed true to herself while still building friendships with the players and her sisters. Her unconventional style was different but that made her even more special…
Bren was recovering from addiction and from a life derailed. With his daughters back in his life he was doing everything by the book. On and off the ice he focused on each day being sober and present for his girls, for his team, and for himself. His attraction to Violet was mutual but that didn’t mean he felt it was right, at least right now…
Oh, how I wanted to grab these two and shake them about a bit as they were both so obviously made for each other. From the love they shared for his girls to the passion they felt for each other, it was clear to me – and everyone – that their relationship was not something casual or brief. Their journey from almost intolerance to unwavering support and devotion was a leap of faith and sequence of events that had me cheering for the team and for their love to win…
This series has been a passionate, family-focused, hockey-filled journey of love and it was AMAZING!
