Michael Daniels is raised by his grandmother Emma after his parents die. They run a candy store named Sweets that his father had opened. One day when Michael comes in, he finds his grandmother murdered. Emma never spoke of her past so after she is murdered Michael goes seeking answers. This was a heartbreaking story of WW2. As Michael discovers Emma's past, it is quite an eye opening journey for Michael. It is a story of love, hate, and discovering ones past. I was captivated by this book from the very first page. It is a story that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming and it brings to life a time and place in history that should not be forgotten.
