P.S.: I really wish there's the half-stars.
P.P.S.: I realized the above was a bit vague; I meant I'd like to officially input it as a 4.5 lmao. May represent a 4.25 though. Not sure. Still digesting. The cultural aspect is really what kept the book fresh for me, and it's really not something I was expecting. It's cool that so far I'm liking the books for completely different reasons. Makes me wonder just what book #3 can throw at me. I won't be guessing though. Please do your best and worst and continue to wow and surprise me. >:3

I absolutely love this series and think that this was a great installment. This author has a way with world building that is very unique. I highly recommend this whole series to anyone that likes science fiction/fantasy. I can’t wait to continue reading more by this author..
Very talented author. I struggled with this series after the first book. Really enjoy his writing style and how he can pull you into the story.
I loved the first book but unfortunately wasn’t able to get into this book. I do hope to give it another try in the future.
I loved the first book so much. The second one seemed to drag, but finally picked up towards the middle. Definitely an interesting read!
I loved this book/series. Sold it to so many looking for a YA series with a male protagonist. I rated it 5/5 for originality and content. Loved it!
Now on the planet Eden, Emmett and the rest of the individuals trained by Babel are ready to do what they need for the cooperation in hopes of also being able to dig into them. As they learn more about the planet and the people who live there, loyalties are tested.
This novel has quite a different vibe from their first one simply due to the nature of where the story is going. So, while I do feel like I liked it less than the first one. But, that doesn’t mean that this one isn’t excellent and captivating and leaving me excited for the next one.
Nyxia Unleased really dives into the planet Eden, or Magnia as the natives (Imago) call it. The reader gets to experience their world and customs. Through the Imago’s story we get to see their struggles and their need to break free from the Babel cooperation. Their story talks about a lot of points that are very important for now.
Emmett throughout this story, is still the wonderful individual that I fell in love with in the first book. He is such a wonderful main character who has so many layers to him and gives such a wonderful insight into what is going on through the trails or their time on the planet.
Nyxia Unleased is a wonderful series that I can’t wait to finish. I’m so excited and happy to have found this series and can’t wait to see how it wraps up after that cliffhanger.
This is a trilogy that I truly adored. I plowed through this book in less than a day and suffered for a year without the final book. This was a very fun and well written sci-fi YA book and I always recommend it to people.
Picking up right where Nyxia left off, Emmett and the crew of Genesis 11 and 12 are finally on the surface of Eden and coming face to face with the Adamites for the first time. But Babel's schemes are far from over. In the second installment of the Nyxia Triad, Emmett truly comes into his own, and readers will find in him a strong leader, an empathetic leader, and a kid wiser and more mature than his years would suggest. The pacing stays strong as the action keeps the story moving steadily forward, but not at a pace that feels rushed. Time is spent for Emmett's internal reflections, for bonding and comradery, and for the burgeoning romance between he and Morning. Here, too, the Adamites, or Imago, become fully realized, and the set-up for conflict between a for-profit corporation and an indigenous people and land is not overlooked. Engrossing, engaging, and well-crafted, file this one under E for Essential SF reading.
Nxyia Unleashed picks up right where Nyxia ended, the groups are being sent to Eden to mine Nyxia. The characters are fantastic, and the sense of family that these characters have developed makes reading about them more enjoyable.
Emmett is still one of my favorite characters. Nyxia Unleashed provides a largely diverse cast of characters with such a unique story line, that even as a follow up novel, it help me interested until the end.
I loved loved loved loved Nyxia and was honestly concerned about how much I would like a sequel. Beware, spoilers ahead! I loved Nyxia for the competition in space features. I enjoyed watching all of the characters interact and grow within the competition but I was always hyperaware that they were stuck in a spaceship with each other and were all under the very watchful thumb of Babel. I worried that the dynamics might change too much once they landed on the ground and had to figure out how to actually mine Nyxia. But honestly, I should not have been worried because Nyxia Unleashed did an absolutely brilliant job placing this motley, ragtag group of teenagers on a foreign planet. It explored the growth of individual characters, but also themes of colonization, genocide, capitalism, and manipulation.
I've been loving the diverse cast of this series, but my main problem with NYXIA UNLEASHED as a second book was keeping up with all the characters! I struggled in the beginning to get back into the storyline, as the plot starts immediately from where book 1 left off, and I read it so long ago. Nonetheless, I pushed through and Reintgen's nonstop action made it easy to continue reading despite not getting the full plot.
NYXIA UNLEASHED continues with more in-depth exploration with our characters from different perspectives, exploring the overall conflict between Babel and the Adamites. I think this book, with such a multi-faceted cast and fun scenery in space, will be a hit for the YA Sci-Fi audience. The ending was also phenomenal, and I can't wait to start the last book in the series!
I love a good sci-fi novel, the world is fleshed out beautifully. I had some issues with the decisions the protagonist made that didn't seem to really fit into context; aside from the mc being a little frustrating, still a great read.
I think that Jay Kristoff said it all when he said "File this book under A for Amazing" because holy cow did this book knock my socks off. Such a thoroughly imagined world that immerses readers and doesn't't spit them back out until they've reached the back endpage.
THIS REVIEW IS ONE PART OF A BOOK TOUR
Last winter, we posted a review for Scott Reintgen’s Nyxia, a young adult science fiction adventure. As far as we were concerned, it was one of the year’s best science fiction releases. A thrilling, imaginative story that evoked both Hunger Games and Ender’s Game, Nyxia gave us a rich world that begged to be explored — and the first book in the series barely gave us a glimpse at it’s potential.
Luckily, this second book brings all that potential to the forefront.
Nyxia Unleashed picks up where the first book left off. We see our young hero, Emmett Atwater, landing on an alien planet after facing one last terrible test at the hands of Babel, the company that manipulated him and many other young people into undertaking one of the most dangerous missions in human history. Where the first book introduces the reader (and the characters) to the mysterious substance, the titular nyxia, this one introduces them to a whole new world as well as a whole new culture in the native Imago community.
One of the things I loved most about Nyxia is how you never really felt like you knew what exactly was going on. There were always unknown motivations behind everything and each mystery seemed to only delve deeper into this incredibly complex world Reintgen had created. In Nyxia Unleashed, that feeling only multiplies as we see our characters thrust into this strange, new world. It helps that Reingten is such a fantastic storyteller and that his ability to create characters and worlds provides very atmospheric read.
He places you in this world and in the shoes of these kids so that you can’t help but feel utterly drawn in. Nyxia Unleashed is a fantastic successor to Nyxia and I loved spending more time with the fabulous cast of characters. I can’t wait to see what Reingten has planned next.
Well, maybe I'm harsh on Sci-Fi, but I do love it. However, I didn't love this. Between the language, the characters, and the sex, I just was very put off. While the writing is strong, it just didn't make up for everything else that I felt was lacking.
My copy came from Net Galley. My thoughts and opinions are my own. This review is left of my own free volition.
Nyxia Unleashed picks up right where Nyxia left off. The crew just landed on Magnia. While on Magnia, the team learns that this missing is not as clear cut as how Babel told them it would be. They all knew that something was up. I really enjoyed returning to these characters and seeing what they were up too. The one thing I really don't like is Reintgen has such big cliffhangers.
What an amazing follow-up! I am so sorry that it took me so long to read it. I never wanted it to end and now need more instantly.
I look forward to more by the author, more in this world, and more in the genre.
Last year I was completely blown away by Scott Reintgen's debut, NYXIA. All those Ender's Game/Hunger Games comparisons hooked me, but as I read I found that it's so much more than what those comps make it out to be. Original, diverse, action-packed, SO gosh darn twisty. Just great. With NYXIA UNLEASHED, I just really wasn't sure what to expect. I knew Nyxia was going to be hard to match because it was just that good.
I'll just say it. Nyxia Unleashed was better.
Oh my GOD this book was fantastic. Without spoiling too much for the first book, Nyxia Unleashed covers new territory and really shows that Reintgen knows his story and his world well. This book was simultaneously different from the first book while also bringing so many things that I loved about the original back to the table. And two of those things that I want to talk about are the characters and the twists.
I said it last year and I'll say it again, the cast of the Nyxia books are diverse and they are WONDERFUL. Emmett is such a fantastic lead, and the whole supporting cast fits together perfectly to really flesh out this story. The characters really are the heart and soul of this book. They're so easy to love and to root for, with believable actions and reactions that make Nyxia Unleashed soar above and beyond.
Now, about those twists. Y'all. I can't. I honestly didn't think the twists of the first book could be topped. HA. I was wrong. As someone who reads quite a bit, I can't express how refreshing it is for a book to truly surprise me. Nyxia Unleashed did just that, multiple times, up to the very last page. These were some Battlestar Galactica-sized twists, and I am NOT OVER IT.
In summary, NYXIA UNLEASHED is a stellar(hahaha) sequel to an amazing debut. I can't recommend this series enough, can't give it enough stars to do it justice. I wish I could put a copy in the hands of all my reader friends and on the shelf of every library in town. I definitely need everyone to jump on these books asap and then come fan over them with me, so we can all look longingly towards 2019 together while waiting for book three.
